BusinessCBN’s dollar restrictions killing our businesses, Nigerians cry out by Blackgoldreport(op): 5:27pm On Sep 23, 2020
Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction over new foreign exchange restrictions imposed on bank customers by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Legit.ng gathered that majority of bank customers with domiciliary accounts are barred from effecting direct FX transfers to third parties and/or withdrawing their own dollars over the counter under the new restrictions.

Speaking on the new policy, the founder of the financial advisory portal, The Money Africa, Oluwatosin Olaseinde, took to Twitter to lament the new policy on Tuesday, September 22.

She tweeted: “We have just been informed that customers can no longer effect FX transfers directly to third parties. Customers can only sell such funds to the bank. Consequently, FX transfers will be disabled on internet banking.”

Recall that the CBN had on August 24, issued a circular removing buying agents/companies or any third parties from accessing its inter-bank retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) forex window through FORM M forex purchases. In the circular, the apex bank instructed that “authorised dealers are hereby directed to desist from the opening of Form M whose payment is routed through a buying company/agent or any other third parties.”

The CBN said its decision was to ensure prudent use of our foreign exchange resources and eliminate incidences of over-invoicing, transfer pricing, double handling charges, and avoidable costs that are ultimately passed to the average Nigerian consumer.

Reacting to Olaseinde’s tweet, many Nigerians berated the CBN for constraining customer’s use of their hard-earned resources.
In his reaction, a Twitter user @dapsonblue asked the federal government to focus on developing local production, rather than make life unbearable for the citizens.

He said: “They should focus on developing local production, they have little power of dollars.”

Other tweets show the displeasure of Nigerians to the CBN's policy with many placing the blame at CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele's feet. Some even went further suggesting that Mr Emefiele should resign.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, September 10, directed the CBN not to issue foreign exchange for food and importation of fertilizer.

It was reported that the president gave this directive to the CBN during the meeting of the National Food Security held in Abuja.

PoliticsCODER Faults Edo Election, Slams INEC For Electoral Irregularities by Blackgoldreport(op): 3:31pm On Sep 22, 2020
A civil society group, Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER), has faulted the conduct of the just concluded Edo governorship election held on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

The group in a statement signed by its national coordinator, Temitope Shaba and the spokesperson, Comrade Ayodele Adewale, alleged that although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has praised itself for a job well done, the elections had several electoral irregularities.

CODER insisted that there were different cases of reported violence at several places during the course of the elections, adding that one of such cases was an alleged shooting of an INEC staff at RA 10, unit 6 in Etsako Central local government area of the state.

The group which deployed a number of electoral observers to monitor the election explained that its observers came across cases of electoral violence, vote-buying and other irregularities across the state.

The statement read: “CODER’s observers deployed to various Local Government Areas recorded incidences of vote buying, intimidation of voters, shooting, ballot snatching, non-compliance with COVID 19 protocol by voters and incidence of incomplete ballot from INEC which almost led to serious chaos at one of the polling units in Oredo local government area."

The group further asked INEC to make sure the upcoming election in Ondo state is more organised than that of Edo state so as to increase the confidence of the electorate in the electoral process and point a way forward for future elections in Nigeria.

PoliticsCODER Calls For Peace In Edo Elections, Asks Police To Remain Neutral by Blackgoldreport(op): 1:26pm On Sep 18, 2020
A civil society group the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER) has asked political actors in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Edo state to shun violence and allow citizens of the state to speak through the ballot.

In a statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator Temitope Shaba and Comrade Ayodele Adewale the group’s spokesperson, CODER acknowledged that there has been unnecessary tension in the state, caused mainly by the two main players in the elections, incumbent governor and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

CODER further cautioned against making the bleak pre-election predictions of some groups come to pass while appealing to the feuding parties to sheath their swords for peace sake. The group also acknowledged the genuine efforts made by the Oba of Benin to broker peace as well as the position taken by the United States of America and the United Kingdom to checkmate the trend of violence.

In conclusion, CODER asked security officials especially the Nigerian Police Force to maintain their neutrality and INEC should also play its role as an unbiased umpire. “The Nigerian Police Force and other security personnel on election duty must maintain their neutrality and be ready to arrest anyone that commits electoral offense. INEC on the other hand must be seen to play its role as an unbiased umpire in the entire process to increase people’s confidence and trust in both the electoral process and the electoral management body,” their statement read.

CelebritiesWhy Is Barr. Babatunde Irukera Obsessed With Dr Anu Adepoju Of Medcontour? by Blackgoldreport(op): 1:35pm On Jul 05, 2020
In the past few days the CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, (FCCPC) Mr Babatunde Irukera has drawn the curious eyes of the public over his handling of the closure of the Med Contour Clinic.

His recent actions has raised eyebrows and questions are being asked as to his personal involvement in this case which borders on a vendetta.

How else can we explain why the FCCPC would get involved in a case that is outside it's jurisdiction?

Why would Mr Irukera the CEO of a Federal Government agency personally come to Lagos from Abuja and invade Dr Anu’s clinic with a team of police men without a search warrant or any legal backing of any sort?

Why does he appear to have an obsessive interest in Dr Anu’s case?

In who’s interest is he hell bent on circumventing the law just to embarrass Dr Anu?

Why would a self-acclaimed lawyer act in this manner?

One would think the involvement of the CEO of the FCCPC will ensure that the agency follows the tenents of the law.

Instead, they did a hatchet job; including totally misidentifying Dr Anu.

To compound matters, together with erring officers of the police, he orchestrated the illegal arrest of Dr Anu making her spend three days in the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.

He personally mandated DCP Yetunde Longe not to grant Dr. Anu administrative bail and claimed the orders to lock her up were supposedly from the Inspector General of Police.

What do we make of the fact that Mr Irukera goes around intimidating innocent people using the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo’s name?

Is the Vice President aware that a public official is making such vile threats with his good name?

He filed Information about Dr Anu since the 3rd of June 2020 and did not serve her a copy as demanded by law. She only became aware of the charges in court on the 3rd of July 2020.

He was duly scolded by Justice LIMAN J. of the Federal High Court Ikoyi Lagos for failure to duly and properly serve Dr. Anu the frivolous allegation leveled against her before the beginning of trial. Dr Anuoluwapo Adepoju has since been granted bail on self recognition.

Before Dr Anu was arraigned, Mr Irukera went ahead to give the press uncertified court copies of proof of evidence, and affidavit of completion of investigation. Mr Irukera has made himself the regulator, investigator, prosecutor and judge in this case.

It is interesting to note that against all sense of decency, Mr Irukera has embarked on a social media trial of Dr Anu. He spends more time attempting to smear Dr Anu’s good name than actually facing the job he was put in office for!

Please Mr. Irukera should tell the world were he got several millions of Naira to pay over 15 media houses that he commissioned on July 3, 2020 to push out FAKE NEWS against Dr. Anuoluwapo Adepoju. Or is he being sponsored by someone?

He is also prosecuting Dr Anu in the electronic, print and social media.

We hereby call on the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire and other relevant medical authorities to caution Mr Irukera as he has no grounds to harass Dr Anuoluwapo Adepoju

We call on the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to immediately call Mr Irukera to order.

He should be compelled upon to stop dragging the name of a well-respected individual in the mud with his gutter tactics.

We also ask President Muhammadu Buhari to look into Mr Irukera’s activities as they are not befitting of the prestigious office which he holds.

His actions bring disrepute to the efforts of Mr President to better the lot of Nigerians.

God bless Nigeria.

CelebritiesI Do Not Do Rituals On My Patients, I Was Blackmailed By Gist Lover by Blackgoldreport(op): 3:46pm On Jul 03, 2020
Dr Anu Adepoju, the founder of the now famous Medcontour laser clinic has finally responded to allegations brought against her by several individuals on social media. One of those who accused the Dr of negligence and trying to kill her was Omotola Taiwo aka Omohtee, a popular social media influencer.

Speaking in a recent interview with Legit.ng, Dr Anu revealed what truly happened between her and Omohtee. Excerpts below:

“As at the time Omohtee said her but cheeks was numb and not the same, she was 4 months post op. At first, skin numbness is normal post-surgery. For some people it takes longer, it depends on your body. However, with proper post-operative care, that should not last for long. You are supposed to have surgery massage that will stimulate your blood vessels; it also helps with tissue profusion.
Some patients are not able to do all of this because of financial constraints or distance. We tell them what to do and they tell us we have someone who can do this for me at home and then they go home and you have some that you tell not to sit for two weeks or two months and you find them sitting, you tell patients you cannot drink or smoke and they go behind your back and do all these things.
Once this happens, they have delayed healings and say it is the fault of the doctor. If only Omohtee came to us to complain about issues she was having. She never told us her abdomen was numb, we found out on social media. She came back to us once to complain about the size of her butt cheeks and we tell our patients that no two parts are the same and even if you think there is a difference, it is not noticeable and you need to give it time.
All we needed to do was reassure her if she came to us about these issues but we heard about them like anybody else on social media and we needed to educate the public about what truly happened. We have no patient die on our table. In the history of our operation, we have never had any patient die on our table.

On getting Omohtee arrested and FCCPC shutting down her clinic
Yes, I got her arrested because all she posted about me made FCCPC come to my clinic and shut it down. FCCPC without trying to call, or checking if those things were true just acted on what they saw on social media. They did no investigation. They even addressed me as Dr Anu Fella. My name is not Dr Anu Fella. I reported this to the Nigerian Medical Association and they have written to them. FCCPC also told them I was not a registered doctor and the NMA denied this.

On rumours that she does rituals on her patients
Only a gullible person will believe that. First, our parents are awake for surgery. We do not put patients to sleep. Secondly, how is it possible to do such a thing when you have nurses, anaesthesiologists, and other people there and then you start taking blood and other body products for rituals? The only time we ever do anything to a patient is to shave the patient because that is important. We advise patients to shave themselves, and if they do not, the nurses help them. But if they do not want to do that at all, its fine. We also ask them to remove their artificial nails on their thumb and index fingers. Blood is only taken when we need to do pre op investigation and that is done way before surgery is done.

On the allegations by Gistlover
This blogger has been going on and on about me. People should be suspicious about why Gistlover seems to be particularly focused on me. I have proof to show that from the first video, this blogger blackmailed me. He or she asked me to pay N2 million to make the story go away and support my brand. I did not pay; it was reduced to N1.5 million. The moment I refused to make that payment, I woke up the next morning to see all the negative things they posted. They blogger is trying to show people that they are helping them when all they say is total nonsense.
On having an herbalist and belonging to a fetish society
What will be my reason for doing all of that, will I say I’m looking for blood money or something? My profession pays me a lot and I am very comfortable. I have no reason to go down that route. What I do, I have the demand for it. I don’t even have my pastor’s number not to talk of going to a herbalist. I am a Christian and I do not believe in such.

On her mum always settling police
Is my mum the governor? Is anyone above the law? No one is above the law. If I have done anything wrong, no matter the position of my mother, she will not be able to do anything about it. I do not get her involved in my matter because I do not want to stress her. Apart from my case with the FCCPC, I do not have any police case that will involve my mother. I can handle my own issues
.
In conclusion
I just wish all this will go away. I want all the negativity to go away seeing that I did not do all the things I am accused of. I’ve not been able to share my own side of the story because my profession does not allow me to. I also see a lot of people saying I do not show any sympathy but the truth is as a Dr, you are meant to be emphatic and not sympathetic towards things. So you cannot exactly show emotions. It doesn’t mean that I do not feel what others feel, it doesn’t mean that I do not feel their pain. At the end of the day, I am a mother as well and I will pray never to lose my own children so why would I want anyone to go through that pain. I wish that patient never died, I wish Omohtee contacted us and we were able to reassure her before she went on social media.
