Democracy was restored to Nigeria in 1999. So it is highly embarrassing that in 25 years, certain things Nigeria should have changed to show the world that it is a serious country, have remained unchanged. Three examples of these are:

(1) It is highly embarrassing and a national shame that Nigerian elections have become the laughing stock of Africa. In 25 years, we have not managed to conduct a single transparent credible National election. Billions have been spent, several laws have been passed. But Nigerian elections have been characterised by thuggery, violence, death, vote buying, intimidation, bribery, falsification of results and abuse of power. At a time when many African countries are receiving accolades for conducting credible elections, Nigeria is no where to seen. How can you be doing this for 25 years with no change?

(2) Nigeria operates on the 1999 constitution. What some people may not know is this 1999 constitution is nothing but Decree 24 of of the General Abdusalami admistration. What does it take to hold a National Sovereign Conference where the ethnic nationalities that make up Nigeria, or their representatives, gather to discuss the terms of engagement, and fashion out a constitution agreed to by the people? In a serious country, this can take only 6 months, or a year at most. But 25 years on, we are still operating a Military Decree as our constitution.

(3) It is Shocking that in 25 years, we are still calling ourselves "Nigeria", a colonial name a white woman created in London. It is embarrassing that almost 70 years after Ghana threw away its colonial name "Gold Coast", and adopted "Ghana", meaning "Warrior" in their local language, we are still walking around proudly calling our selves "Nigerian", a name that was made in London, imported into West Africa, and forcefully imposed on us all. But I understand that because we can't find any point of unity, we have to keep bearing a ridiculous colonial name as our national identity

Since you have admitted that it was a mistake of your birth in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, so who are you blaming for that?
