Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose has
said President Muhammadu Buhari's
appointees endanger Nigeria's democracy
- He warned the president to caution his
appointee before they destroy the nation's
fledging democracy
- Fayose asked the president to cut the
overbearing officials to size
Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose,
has made a passionate appeal to
President Muhammadu Buhari to
intervene forcefully by restraining
Presidency officials and other
appointees endangering Nigeria’s
democracy and making a mockery of
the nation.
The governor decried the incessant acts
of impunity and pettiness by presidency
officials in serious matters of state,
which he said, had become alarming.
NAIJ.com reports that Fayose, who spoke
through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu
Adelusi, lamented that governance had
been reduced to a theatre of the absurd.
“These appointees of yours are needlessly
and embarrassingly flexing muscles and
are heating up the polity; they appear to
be having fun and regaling themselves at
the expense of the nation. The economy
has collapsed and the people are
suffering. There is hunger and anger
never before witnessed in the land.
“Yet, presidential appointees are
preoccupied with trivialities and
inanities. Wearing uniform has suddenly
become a Supreme Court matter. Why a
man who will not wear uniform went to
take a uniformed job beggars belief.
Governor Ayo Fayose
"How someone who has so little respect
and scanty regard for an organisation
like the Nigeria Customs Service should
be made to head the same organisation
must baffle right-thinking Nigerians.”
The governor pointed out that in other
societies where people have a sense of
decency and decorum, people with such
irreconcilable differences would
honourably resign their position.
“And where a government finds itself
unable to effectively govern, as we
appear to have here on our hands, it
behoves the head of that government to
do the needful.
“Mr President, let it not be said that you
have lost grip of your government.
Nigerians are beginning to believe, as a
statement of fact, your wife’s allegation
that a cabal has taken over your
government. Your defence that your wife
belongs to ‘the other room’ now rings
hollow in the ears of Nigerians.
“The saying is that he who appoints can
also disappoint. Your appointees are
your creation and it is an aberration
when they become greater and more
powerful than you. Mr President, the tail
is wagging the dog right now. You must
take effective and firm action to reverse
this ugly and unwholesome trend.”
The governor lamented that government
appointees whom he referred to as
“consortium of presidents” took delight
in riding roughshod over the polity and
desecrating the hallowed chambers of
justice.
“If you need help, Nigerians are ready to
queue behind you on this issue to put an
end to your appointees’ shenanigans.
“Mr President, I, Ayo Fayose, volunteer
to help you in this regard. As a state
governor, I cannot brook a tenth of what
you are taking from your appointees.
None of my appointees can disrespect
and disparage the Ekiti State House of
Assembly like your appointees are doing
to the National Assembly.
“Did you listen to what a distinguished
Senator of the Federal Republic said this
week on the floor of the red chamber;
that for the 59 days that you were away
on medical leave in London, your
appointees were gentle and behaved
themselves and there were no killings in
any part of the country by rampaging
herdsmen; but now you are back and the
troubles are back with us again? We all
prayed for your quick recovery and swift
return to office. Must we now regret
doing so?”
Fayose warned the president to note
that Nigerians were fast losing their
patience and that he must cut the
overbearing officials to size. |

- About 60 people have died following seperate attacks by herdsmen in Benue state - Suspected Fulani herdsmen have continued to plague agrarian communities in Benue - Governor Ortom has declared that all Fulani herdsmen must leave the state with immediate effect - A special team of policemen have landed in Benue to put an end to the menace Emerging reports show that the death toll between 10th to 20th March has risen to 60 in Benue state, following alleged attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen. A special tactical force assigned by the Nigeria’s police chief, Ibrahim K Idris, to deal with the continuing violence, has landed in the state. The police special tactical force is to comprise of Police Mobile Force (PMF specially trained Anti Riot Policemen), Counter Terrorism Units, Conventional Policemen, Special Anti Robbery Squad, SIB, detachment of EOD, Police K9 (Sniffer Dogs Section), Police Air wing (Aerial Surveillance Helicopters) and other undercover operatives. According to a police statement obtained by NAIJ.com , the police special tactical force is led by the commissioner of police in charge of PMF, Force Headquarters in Abuja, under the supervision of deputy Inspector General of Police, department of operations. Ben Ahmed, the leader, assured people of the state on Thursday, March 23, that the situation will be brought under control. He made the statement while presenting members of the team to Governor Samuel Ortom at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi. The attack on Friday March 10, began in Mkgovur village, on the outskirts of Buruku town. When the Hausa Fulani Muslim herders were prevented from grazing their cattle on the farms of the indigenous Christian community, they came back later, armed with sophisticated weapons. They shot and killed anything in sight. By the time the villagers realised, about ten people had been killed; several others were missing. Others had to flee to the neighbouring Gboko Local Government Area. UPDATE: 60 Killed as herdsmen carryout several attacks in Benue state - Police chief Mallam Garus Gololo, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association (an umbrella organisation that looks after the interests of the Hausa Fulani Muslim herders across West Africa), denied that the attack was carried out by the herders in Benue state. He claimed that the attackers were not the ‘ordinary’ Fulani who, he said, ‘have no other interests than to look after their herds.’ He told This Day Live that they may have come from another Middle Belt State, Taraba. There are also reports that this particular Fulani group are too heavily armed and very sophisticated, that they seem to come from places beyond Nigeria, as the Governor of a third Middle Belt state, Kaduna, has affirmed about Fulani attacks in his state. However, the recent Fulani attackers appeared to have a good geographical knowledge of the local communities and the villages. After the attack in Mkgovur, another attack was carried out two days later in the village of Tombo- Mbalagh, Buruku LGA. This Hausa Fulani Muslim herdsmen attack was directed mostly against an unarmed Christian population going about its normal business. About eight people were killed and three others were reported missing. There are other attacks that have been recorded within the given time frame. CP Ahmed said President Muhammadu Buhari was deeply worried at the happenings in Benue and the deployment of the tactical team was in response to the call of Governor Ortom. He pleaded with the people of Benue to avail both the existing security men and the Special Tactical Team the needed information that could ease the operation. In his response, Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to President Buhari for the swift response to his distress call. The Governor noted that his government had been proactive in handling security issues and with the combined force of the visiting team, unimaginable success would be recorded. He recalled the efforts of his administration in recovering over 700 weapons from youths of the state through the carrot approach of the Benue amnesty programme, saying the situation would have been worse if the weapons were still in the custody of hoodlums. The governor pointed out specifically that Terwase Akwaza also known as Gana and members of his gang who masterminded the recent Zaki Biam attacks must be fished out and brought to justice. It would be recalled that in a recent interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, March 15 , the state governor, Samuel Ortom confirmed that there is a limit to which he can ask the people of the state to be patient. He said if the federal government did not intervene, locals say retaliatory attacks will not be ruled out. He expressed disappointment over the careless statements credited to the governor of Rivers State, Nyelsom Wike who has called for state of emergency in Benue. Governor Ortom pointed out that the spate of killings in Rivers is far higher than Benue, describing the statement of his Rivers counterpart as unfortunate. He maintained that rather than sympathise with Benue at this time of pain, Governor Wike had chosen to mock the state, praying that God should forgive the Rivers governor. Governor Ortom sued for cooperation from both security men and the people of the state for improved security. http://mygistloaded..com/2017/03/herdsmen-assaults-60-killed-in-assaults.html

Since he played the character, Jesus, in the
1977 movie, Jesus of Nazareth, Robert
Powell’s
photos are hung in churches, homes, cars,
schools, offices and many holy grottos all
over
the world to drive off evil forces and attract
good fortunes.
However, Powell has cried out in the social
media that he is not Jesus and that people
should stop worshiping him. Rather, they
should
respect the true Jesus and worship God. His
is
among the most trending stories on social
media
in January 2016.
In his words: “I never cease to say and I
repeat
it to the world since 1977. I am not Jesus
Christ,
I am just an actor and British comedian. I am
tired of seeing my photos displayed in places
of
worship and other places for worship. I just
make
a film for a living. Burn my picture and
worship
the only God in truth ! I am just an actor…
Jesus
is Lord!”
Another actor who played Jesus is Jim
Caviezel.
According to clipd.com, “Jim is arguably one
of
the most famous portrayals of Jesus in acting
history. He played Jesus in Mel Gibson’s ‘The
Passion Of The Christ,’ which is the greatest
selling Christian movie of all time. Jim won
one
award for his portrayal as Jesus, and several
other nominations.” He too may soon beg
people
to stop worshipping him like Powell.
Here Powell’s profile as published by
Wikipedia br /> “Robert Powell (born 1 June
1944) is an English
television and film actor, best known for the
title
role in Jesus of Nazareth (1977) and as the
fictional secret agent Richard Hannay. He is
also
known for his role as Mark Williams in BBC
One
medical drama, Holby City, and as David
Briggs
in the sitcom The Detectives alongside Jasper
Carrott.
His distinctive voice has become well known
in
advertisements and documentaries, especially
in
World War II documentaries such as World
War II
in HD Colour, Hitler’s Bodyguard, The Story of
the Third Reich and Secrets of World War II.
Powell was born in Salford, Lancashire, the
son
of Kathleen (née Davis) and John Wilson
Powell.
Powell was educated at Manchester Grammar
School (where one of his classmates was the
actor Ben Kingsley), then a direct grant
grammar
school for boys in the city of Manchester in
North West England, and later at the Royal
College of Advanced Technology in Salford.
Powell took up acting while an undergraduate.
He had aspired to become a lawyer and in
1963-4 attended an external London University
LLB degree Course at the Manchester College
of
Commerce but at the same time quietly took
acting roles under Trevor Nunn. At the College
of
Commerce he swapped roles with Bernard
Brandon in a week-long College Revue of
Comedy
Sketches to see which role gave him “the
best
laughs”. This early comedy experience was
later
to be fulfilled with Jasper Carrott. After this
he
secured a post at a repertory theatre in Stoke-
on-
Trent. His first film part was in Robbery when
he
played the driver of the driver who is coshed
in
the Stanley Baker film about the great train
robbery. He had a small role in the original
film
version of The Italian Job (1969) playing one
of
the gang, but had to wait a few years for his
first
success, playing scientist Toby Wren in the
BBC’s science fiction series, Doomwatch in
1970.
Having been killed off in the last episode of
the
original series, at his request, Powell became
a
pin-up and a household name, following up
with
starring roles in several BBC serials, including
television adaptations of the novels
Sentimental
Education (1970) and Jude the Obscure
(1971).
He also appeared in the 1975 series Looking
for
Clancy, based on the Frederic Mullally novel
Clancy.
For several years Powell continued as a
television regular, with occasional forays into
film, as the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler
in
the Ken Russell biopic Mahler (1974) and
Captain Walker in Russell’s film version of
Tommy (1975). His role in Tommy had no
lines
at all and apart from a few early scenes
during
the overture with Ann-Margret, he is primarily
seen through the mind of his son as played by
Barry Winch (Young Tommy) and Roger
Daltrey.
In one of those scenes Captain Walker is
shown
in a crucifixion pose.
He then played Jesus Christ in Jesus of
Nazareth (1977) following a successful
second
audition with Franco Zeffirelli. The two-part
television film had an all-star cast, including
Laurence Olivier, Ernest Borgnine and Stacey
Keach, Christopher Plummer, Rod Steiger and
James Mason. For this role, Powell was
nominated for a BAFTA award, and collected
the
TVTimes Best Actor award for the same
performance.
In 1975, Powell married his girlfriend, the
Pan’s
People dancer Babs Lord, shortly before he
was
due to start filming for Jesus of Nazareth on
location in Morocco. On 23 November 1977,
they
had their son, Barney, followed in 1979 by a
daughter, Kate.
In 1978, Powell took the leading role of
Richard
Hannay in the third film version of The Thirty
Nine Steps. It met with modest success, and
critics compared Powell’s portrayal of John
Buchan’s character favourably with his
predecessors. His characterisation proved to
be
enduring, as almost ten years later a
television
series entitled simply Hannay appeared with
Powell back in the role, (although the Buchan
short stories on which the series was based
were set in an earlier period than The Thirty-
Nine
Steps). Hannay ran for two seasons.
In 1980, Powell appeared in the film
Harlequin,
playing the Harlequin of the title who seems
to
have the power to cure the son of a powerful
politician. For this performance, he won the
Best
Actor Award at the Paris Film Festival. In
1982,
he won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival
for his role in Imperativ.
Powell then agreed to a request from his old
friend and golf partner, comedian Jasper
Carrott,
taking the part of an incompetent detective in
a
succession of sketches that formed part of
Carrott’s television series. The Detectives was
so
popular that it was turned into a sitcom,
Powell’s
first and only venture into this genre.
In 1984, Powell made his U.S. film debut in
What
Waits Below (as known as Secrets of the
Phantom Caverns).
In 1986, Powell narrated and co-starred in
William C. Faure’s popular miniseries Shaka
Zulu,
with football legend Henry Cele in the title
role.
In 1992, he starred in the New Zealand World
War
I film Chunuk Bair, as Sgt Maj Frank Smith. In
1993-1995, he was the voice actor of Dr
Livesey
in The Legends of Treasure Island.
Nowadays Powell appears in person less
often,
but his distinctive voice is frequently heard on
voice-overs, advertisements and as a narrator
of
television programmes such as Great Crimes
and
Trials and The Century of Warfare and World
War
II in HD Colour. He read the novel Love in the
Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
for
BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime, and has also
narrated many audio books including The
Thirty
Nine Steps, abridged versions of many of Alan
Garner’s books, and several abridged novels
for
‘The Talking Classics Collection’. Powell has
also
lent his voice to musical works, such as David
Bedford’s album The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner,[4] or the 2002 rock opera The Hound
of
the Baskervilles, by Clive Nolan and Oliver
Wakeman, where he played the role of John
Watson. He also narrated on two rock albums
by
Rick Wakeman called Cost of Living and The
Gospels (1987).
On 29 October 2001, a state-of-the-art theatre
named after him was opened at the University
of
Salford.[5] He became a patron of 24:7
Theatre
Festival in 2004, and continues to operate in
this
capacity as of 2014. In early 2005 he became
a
regular in the UK TV medical drama, Holby
City,
where he remained for six years before
departing
to return to theatre.[6] On 9 February 2008, he
performed as narrator in Prokofiev’s Peter and
the Wolf with the Huddersfield Philharmonic
Orchestra with conductor Natalia Luis-Bassa
in
the North of England.[7] He currently has a
regular spot narrating literary passages on
BBC4’s The Book Quiz and will appear in
Aladdin
at the Malvern Theatre this winter .
On 20 December 2014, he took on the role of
“Ebenezer Scrooge” in Neil Brand’s BBC Radio
4
adaptation of A Christmas Carol.”
