Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigerians will appreciate the good works he has done for the country after he has left office. Speaking, Tuesday, when he received a delegation from Bayelsa State who paid him a visit as part of the Christmas celebration, President Jonathan said he will continue to do his best in order to meet the expectations of not only Nigerians but especially the people of Bayelsa State. According to President Jonathan, the seat of the president of the country belongs to Nigerians and only them can decide who occupies the seat at any point in time. “The new year is full of challenges. Everywhere will be hot from the 2nd of January. I am here by the grace of God and the will of Nigerians. If I don’t do well the shame will be on you. I will do my best. I don’t expect praises now. It’s when you leave that people will begin to compare you with others. I will do my best to address all the challenges we are having. I will do my best so that when I leave, people will compare what I have done and what others before me did. The seat belongs to the country and it is only the country that can decide who occupies it” he said. President Jonathan enjoin the people of Bayelsa state to pray for the country adding that he will continue to do his best for the country. In his remarks, the governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson said the delegation was in the state house to show solidarity with the president and express appreciation to Nigerians for supporting President Jonathan thus far. “We are here to show solidarity and to let everybody know that your people in Bayelsa are with you. It is in the spirit of Christmas that we are here on behalf of the people of Bayelsa to wish you, your government and family compliments of the season and a very happy, prosperous and victorious 2015. “We bring you prayers and strong message of solidarity. We are here to thank Nigerians for their support for your government” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/nigerians-will-appreciate-leave-office-jonathan/#sthash.52qUb4xP.dpuf |

Former Nigeria International Taribo West said it would be prudent for the local football fraternity to put the disappointment of the outgoing year behind them and focus on restoring the pride of the national team. West said that while there was disappointment, the Nigeria Football Federation should use all that has transpired this year as an important lesson and build on that in coming months. “It is sad that we, the defending champions, will not be in Equatorial Guinea to defend our title. The football world is disappointed, Africa is disappointed and Nigerians are disappointed,” West said. “It should be a lesson for the NFF to have a family where only those with knowledge of football administration will be made to run football. “The NFF should take note that Nigerian football is not only about the Super Eagles but also the U-17, the U-20 and the U-23 national teams. Hence, the structure for the success of these national teams in the international arena in 2015 should be of utmost concern.” One theme which consistently comes to the fore under these circumstances is the absence of former football players in the administrative branch of Nigerian football. “We have ex-internationals who are coaches already. However, it is not all of us who can or should be coaches. “We can contribute a lot in the day-to-day administration of football in Nigeria and introduce better policies that brought success in countries where we played. “We have a lot of knowledge that can bring changes and development from the grassroots to the senior teams,” he added. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/vision-2015-taribo-seeks-new-direction-nigerian-football/#sthash.2iuoQL78.dpuf |

The Anglican Bishop of Okigwe, Rt. Rev. Dr. Edward Osuegbu, has described the continuous attack on the office and person of President Goodluck Jonathan by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as “shocking, most unfair and uncharitable, especially as it is coming from a former occupier of the office”. Bishop Osuegbu, who made his feelings known in a chat with Vanguard, also accused Obasanjo of having done “similar or worse things while in office.” “Some of us who have been watching for many years now, know that it is the kettle calling the pot black. Obasanjo did similar things he is accusing the incumbent of and even worse”, Osuebu said. According to the fiery Anglican cleric, Obasanjo is now taking pleasure in criticizing and calling President Jonathan all sorts of names because he wants to drag the President down. “Possibly, Chief Obasanjo wants to drag the President down or wants him to go on his knees and coming to the retired army general to beg for support. That is most unfair”, Bishop Osuegbu said. While saying that such scathing criticisms have never come from any past President of United States of America, USA, the cleric however said that real statesmen only advice the incumbents and nobody gets to hear about it. “They do not make noise if their advice is not taken by the incumbent. It is also noteworthy that no former President of the USA has ever castigated President Barrack Obama. This does not mean that Obama is infallible”, Osuegbu said. It was the considered opinion of the Anglican cleric that past presidents of America respect the office of the President of USA as if their lives depends on it, stressing that that was one way of respecting their nation.
