Ogundare26:I read your transcript and I couldn’t see anything wrong with what you said. Sometimes VO, just want you to answer only the questions they pose without providing more information. My view of their interview is - You can do prepare well and the VO still denies you. You can work on your confidence and practice with people before your next interview. Must you go to school in Fall or you can wait till next year so you can go through education USA? If you cannot sign up with them officially, follow them on social media they usually have different public sessions virtually where you can ask your own questions. They have a preparing for visa session but I think it would be later in the year since they are currently doing session for Fall resumption. |
BigIyanga:I am not offering anything. You can check the link I shared. Education USA is part of the services of the US embassy. All the meeting are held at the consulate. One has to attend an information session first to learn more before deciding whether or not you want to go with them. “The EducationUSA Advising Center at the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate Lagos offers students access to accurate, comprehensive, and current information about educational institutions in the United States“ Lagos https://educationusa.state.gov/centers/educationusa-lagos Their Instagram page : https://www.instagram.com/educationusalagos/ Abuja https://educationusa.state.gov/centers/educationusa-abuja By visiting the link, you can learn more about their services. Did I use them officially? No, by the time I was preparing for graduate school, it was already 7 years since I finished my undergraduate program. The requirement for getting advising through them was that I must have graduated within the last 3 years (this might have changed) Did I benefit from them? Yes, I attended some of their sessions that was opened to the public. 1.How to negotiate scholarship - I used learning from the session to negotiate my scholarships and got additional $2k from one to the schools I wrote to. 2. Student orientation for Fall semester 2021 (one of the things they spoke about helped me during my trip to the US as I was pulled aside at the border for further questioning before my passport was stamped). Do I know people who have used them? I met a couple of people on my flight who got their full scholarship through education USA opportunity funds(I spoke with two: one got full Bsc scholarship while the second got fully funded PhD). It was from one for them I learned that if you are under the age of 30 and traveling via Qatar Airways for school, you can check in a 3rd bag for free ( this was in August 2021). You have to register on their site though. I didn’t benefit because I was older than 30. I have seen some of their post about community colleges and I believe they can demystify most of the opinions I have seen on this board. |
You can have payment plan with your university upon resumption. For POF, you need the tuition for 9months (most likely your first two semesters)+ cost of living, cost of dependent (if you have any). Your required POF amount is heavily dependent on tuition which varies per school. CamelCase: |
At the point of 80m question, you could have offered his bank statement. “Yes, I have his bank statement here if you will like to look through it and confirm the figures”. 80m is not alot of money for a successful business venture unless she thinks it is $80m GirlyLois: |
Yes, if you intend to teach business related courses. Why do you need an MBA? chizurumb: |
If you still have a current I-20 and you are within US, you do not need a F1 visa unless you are travelling and need to re-enter the US. Pls don’t send your passport to Nigeria because your visa date will not correspond with any of your border entry date. This will cause issues in future because one of the question you answer while submitting your request for Dropbox is that you are physically in Nigeria. Olayinkamalik01: |
If you just finished secondary school, Your best bet is attending a session at Education USA. They will guide you and share all the available options with you including path to community college and scholarships. This is a link to when the meeting in Lagos. They also do those sessions outside Lagos too https://educationusa.state.gov/centers/educationusa-lagos You have to attend their free information session first https://www.eventbrite.com/e/educationusa-lagos-study-in-the-us-information-session-tickets-152861309291 When I was applying for my masters, I attended the session. I didn’t sign up because I finished undergrad earlier than their cut off year. All the best Ogundare26: |
She should log into the appointment page and change the confirmation number to the new one. Once this is done, she should email herself the interview details. This is what she will use to confirm that it has updated. chinelo5: |
She needs to fill another one. Application cannot be older than 6 months by interview date First she retrieves the old application She would see a prompt whether she wants to view or create a new application. She should select create new application, the system would automatically copy from her old application. She should update accordingly then submit. mfonox: |
Have you considered your total cost- Are the living expenses similar? Are they in the same states? Before you decide, calculate your total cost? Is it 15k per year or 15k for the entire duration of your PhD? Also, reach out to your PhD supervisor to find out if there’s an opportunity to get additional funding?Personally, I believe Phd should be fully funded. Secondly, what’s your post educational goal in the US? Which one brings you closer to it? You can go for the Master program then reapply for another fully funded PhD program when you are on ground. Remember that students can only work 20 hrs per week and you will have other expenses All the very best with your decision. Phenomenal101: |
If there are similar courses. You can send your transcript and ask if it is possible for you to get exempted from those courses and the credit units from Nigeria be considered as part of your graduation credit hours. In addition to your transcript, they may require your course syllabus. There’s no harm in trying. PS: a freshman does not necessarily mean you are totally new - it just means you have not upon the number of credit honors to move you from freshman to sophomore . Hence a transfer student can still be a freshman. Blavkz: |
Do you have anything that shows the signatories to the account or a CAC letter that shows it’s your dad’s company? LawyerBB: |
If you are already within the US. Please reach out to your school’s international student office and other Nigerians (maybe on Twitter) to confirm my understanding. My understanding is that your I-20 is sufficient for you and visa is only required if you travel out and need to re-enter the US. Hemingway: |
