A Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, has ordered the Federal Government to pay the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the sum of N500 million as damages following his illegal abduction and human rights abuse from Kenya. The Court also ordered the Federal government to return him to Kenya from where he was extradited to Nigeria on June 19, 2021. The Court presided by Justice E . N Anyadike, insisted that the extradition of Kanu from Kenya without recourse to the legal process was a flagrant abuse of his fundamental human rights. He held that the respondent failed to disprove the claims of the applicant that he was arrested, blindfolded, tortured, and chained to the ground for eight days in Kenya before his extradition to Nigeria. Kanu, through his special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, had approached the court challenging his extradition from Kenya on June 19, 2022. Nigerians can now earn in US Dollars from home, let’s show you how our client earned $13,000 (₦9,600,000.00) within 2 weeks simply by sharing post to your friends. Click here Ejimakor told the court that the suit is sui generis (of a special class) and was primarily aimed at redressing the infamous unlawful expulsion or extraordinary rendition of Kanu, which is a clear violation of his fundamental rights under Article 12(4) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, as well as Chapter IV of the Nigerian Constitution. He said, ‘In addition to the rendition, I am asking the Court to redress the myriad violations that came with the rendition, such as the torture, the unlawful detention and the denial of the right to fair hearing which is required by law before anybody can be expelled from one country to the other. “I am also seeking to halt his prosecution and restore him to the status quo before his rendition on 19th June 2021. “You will recall that on January 19, 2022, the High Court of Abia State decided that portion of violation of Kanu’s fundamental rights that occurred in 2017. Even as I had made claims that bordered on rendition, the Court declined jurisdiction on grounds that rendition, being related to extradition, lies within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Federal High Court. This is what informed my decision to initiate the suit before the Federal High Court. “To be sure, the extraordinary rendition of Nnamdi Kanu, triggered myriad legal questions that cut across multiple jurisdictions in Nigeria and even triggered the international legal order, to boot. In other words, the rendition has expanded the matter of Kanu far beyond the realms of the Abuja trial and opened up new legal frontiers that must be ventilated to the hilt before other courts and tribunals within and without Nigeria. “Thus, this very case before the Federal High Court in Umuahia is one of such that is aimed at seeking a definitive judicial pronouncement on the constitutionality of the extraordinary rendition. The ones in the United Kingdom, Kenya, African Union, and the United Nations are in addition. “I would like to seize this opportunity to express my profound appreciation to the highly competent and hardworking team of lawyers that I am leading in the prosecution of this complex suit. Special mention must be made of Barristers Patrick Agazie, Ifeyinwa Nworgu, Tochukwu Arugbuonye, Franklin Amandi, Ohaeto Uwazie and Mandela Umegborogu”. “For ease of reference and avoidance of any doubt, the following are the specific reliefs that I requested in the suit”. Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgment, Ejimakor said the judgment had shown that the court still remains the last hope for the common man. |

The budgets of Osun, Nasarawa, Enugu and seven other states in the country are less than the annual earnings of 10 top athletes in Europe and America put together, Sunday PUNCH has gathered. The combined yearly salaries of athletes such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and basketball star, Lebron James, are higher than the budgets of some states in Nigeria put together. According to reports published on sportreview.com, the total amount earned per year by the three athletes from salaries, sponsorships and endorsements is N148,992,480,000. Using the Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate of N424.48 to $1, Messi earns N55,182,400,000 ($130m); Ronaldo gets N48,815,200,000 ($115m), while James takes home N51,362,080,000 ($121.2m). Whereas the combined 2022 budgets of Nasarawa, Ekiti and Abia states is N356,750,000,000. In December 2021, the Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, signed the N110bn 2022 budget into law. In the same vein, the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, signed the 2022 budget of N100.75bn into law with a promise to complete all ongoing legacy projects and consolidate other achievements recorded in the past years. On his part, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, signed into law a total of N147.28bn as the state’s budget for 2022. Economy weak – Experts Speaking in separate interviews with Sunday PUNCH, experts attribute the low budgets by states to a weak national economy. A professor of Economics at the University of Uyo, Akpakpan Edet, said states should stimulate the economy by cutting down the cost of governance and creating an enabling environment for investors to thrive, thereby creating quality jobs, which would enable the citizens to pay taxes. According to him, all available resources should be concentrated on the economy to achieve desired development in the states. He said, “What it means is that the economy of the states is very weak. They are not able to generate substantial internal revenue; when the economy is weak, they don’t have many people in employment and those who are able to find anything to do at all will be doing menial jobs that don’t pay them substantial income, so they end up being unable to pay taxes; that’s the problem. “Look at what governors earn and all the security votes and so on, they don’t account for them. If half of the money the government is spending on frivolities is put in the economy, things will begin to change. “What the states need to do, and in fact the entire nation, is to stimulate the economy and that can be done within two to three years; changes can be made. Whatever resources you have, you put into productive activities. “If a government comes into office and directly takes two productive activities and establishes something in the state with it, even if it is a farm, and plan it very well so it will succeed, whatever you produce, you will be adding value; with that, you create opportunities for more people to earn better income and then you can tax them.” Read Also How often should have sex ? |

A 49-year-old man, Amoda Bola, who was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter, tells DAUD OLATUNJI about the case What do you do for a living? I work as a dry cleaner in Ishara. I live in the Ishara area of Remo-North. How many children do you have? I have five children. What is the position of the one who accused you of raping and impregnating her? She is my fourth child. Does her mother stay with you? I divorced her mother after she gave birth to the girl (victim). She has been married to another man in Ilorin. I do not have a wife presently. But I used to have a girlfriend. How did you manage to raise the girl after you divorced your wife and she left you? The girl was kept in the custody of her maternal grandmother. I sponsored her education for a while before the grandmother stopped me from seeing my child at her school. She started staying with me three years ago. She decided to live with me when she came on a holiday visit to her mother’s sister’s residence. I told her not to return to her grandmother because she told me that her grandmother had not been paying her school fees. Thereafter, I enrolled her in a school and she stayed. Did you find your daughter sexually attractive to you? She was not attractive to me. It’s forbidden to be attracted to one’s daughter. Your daughter alleged that you raped her and also invited some men to rape her as well. What can you say about it? I didn’t invite men to have sexual intercourse with my child. I didn’t know those men before now. I only met them when everything was exposed. They never set foot in my house. They had intercourse with her in their various homes; not in my house. Is it true that you slept with her? Yes. How many times did you sleep her? I had intercourse with her four times. Twice last year and twice this year. What prompted you to do that? I still can’t believe I did such. It still looks like I’m seeing a movie. I have never done anything to her elder ones. Who did you deflower her? I didn’t deflower her. She was not a virgin when it happened. So, how did it happen? It happened when I came back from work. She was alone at home with me. So, I told her to bring my food. I didn’t know when I grabbed her and had intercourse with her. What did she do? She did not want to fight me. She cried afterwards and asked why I did that to her. Then I pleaded with her to forgive me. It saddens me that I committed such a great sin. A month after that, it happened the second time. I mean I had intercourse with her the second time, with no protest from her. The third occurrence happened in July this year (2022). I told her to wait for me in my room after she fetched water for me to shower. But I later changed my mind. I didn’t join her in the room. She came to ask why I was hesitating to come inside the house. Afterwards, something in me asked why I was wasting time, so I went in with her and it happened again. Where were your other children when you were committing the act? They were not aware. It happened while they were at the shop. We don’t share the same room. How old is her pregnancy? I don’t know. I didn’t even know she was pregnant. I was informed after my arrest. Do you realise that what you did is a taboo in Yoruba culture? I know, and I regret it. It is a terrible thing to do. It’s still a mystery to me. Are you sure she is your biological daughter? She is my daughter. I’m her father. Though she didn’t live with me from the start, she came back to live with me three years ago when she was 11 years old. She lived with her maternal grandmother before then. You said you had a girlfriend. Where is she? I used to have a girlfriend but the relationship ended in July when my daughter told her I didn’t like her. I told my girlfriend everything when she confronted me about it and she stopped communicating with me. You also said your daughter was not a virgin and that some men slept with her on different occasions. Has she ever had an abortion? Yes. Five months ago, I took her to the hospital where a pregnancy was aborted. The pregnancy was a month old when I discovered she was pregnant. So, I asked if she would keep the pregnancy or abort it so she could continue her education and she suggested an abortion. I paid for the abortion. The doctor demanded N13,000 but I paid N10,000. How will you describe the character of your daughter? She is gentle but stubborn. She is well exposed as well. What do you mean by saying she is exposed? She is exposed. Even her mother can testify to it. Her mother had told me that I had to handle her with an iron hand if she would have to live with me because she is wayward. Did you know your daughter had a boyfriend? I was unaware until after the arrest. But her siblings did complain that she took her time to return home when she was sent on errands. I always warned her whenever I got the report about her waywardness. But I was always careful not to hurt her since she was the only daughter from her mother’s side. Why didn’t you make the man that got her pregnant to take responsibility for his action? I couldn’t marry her off because she was still a pupil and I wanted her to be educated. That was why I opted for an abortion. How did you feel when you learnt some men had carnal knowledge of your daughter? I always felt terrible about it. Whenever I got such information, I went ahead to warn them to never get intimate with my daughter again. I only warned them because I believe in forgiveness. You said what happened was a mystery to you. Did you seek help? Yes, I did seek help from a herbalist and he told me it was a spiritual issue. He told me to make a sacrifice which I did. I made the sacrifice just the Sunday before my arrest. Read Also Pastor Caught Having A S3x Chat With Church Member |
A presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party and publisher, Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, on Friday, recounted his experience with Senator Remi Tinubu, wife of the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, during the funeral of chieftain of the APC, Kemi Nelson, in Lagos, stating that he chose to place Nigeria above friendship. Momodu, in a terse statement posted on his verified Instagram page via @delemomoduovation, said, “Only two people, apart from the photographers, witnessed what happened between me and Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday, at the funeral service of Chief Kemi Nelson, at (the) Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos. “Before some people add salt and pepper to it, I need to state precisely what happened… “Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Dr Tunji Olowolafe and I had walked in about the same time and we went to greet my very dear sister, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Immediately she saw me, we exchanged our usual pleasantries and then she asked me, ‘So Bob Dee, you’re not going to campaign for my husband…?’ I smiled and remained very calm before replying: ‘Your Excellency, I’m in PDP…’ She apparently didn’t find it funny and regaled us with the past I shared with her husband and I tried to calm her down. “Anyway, I went back to my seat and pondered on what just happened and I soliloquised: ‘Before the PDP Primary, I had been asked repeatedly by journalists if I’ll dump (the) PDP if I don’t get the ticket, my answer was NO. So if I had gotten the PDP ticket, would I step down for Tinubu of (the) APC, the answer is No.’ “I joined (the) PDP because the APC was leading Nigeria to Golgotha. The APC candidates are promising to continue Buhari’s ‘good works!’ I joined the PDP in order to sack APC from power and to do this I needed a strong opposition party. I had preached to my younger friends that only a mainstream party like the PDP can achieve this in 2023. “This remains my conviction. I practise what I preach. Those who disagree are in other parties and I respect their opinions and wish them well. I’m in PDP. “I love Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We’ve truly come way back. I love Professor Yemi Osinbajo. I love Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi… And all my APC friends… But the APC has done too much damage to Nigeria. “I choose to place Nigeria above friendship… I will try my best to support and encourage our PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to do the right things in our party and to rescue our dear beloved country from the vestiges of oppression, religious intolerance, poverty, terrorism, infrastructure decay, economic wows, unemployment. “God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” Related Topic: open source sex, now with pictures |

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said that it is strategic to equip the teeming youth population with tools and techniques they need to be productive as they remain the strength of the country. Speaking on Tuesday at a strategy dialogue on the Edo State Youth Development Policy, Obaseki, who was represented by the Secretary to the State government, Osarodion Ogie, said his administration has carried out laudable projects geared at skills development and other employment opportunities for the youths. He said, “Some of the stakeholders have partnered with the government to ensure that the issues of youths are not only raised but addressed, and it is a process that we will continue to work on while doing our best to leave no one behind. “The strength of any nation is in her youth population, and the strategic thing to do is to equip this teeming population with the tools and techniques to be productive. “My administration has carried out laudable projects geared at skills development and other employment opportunities. We have projects like the Edo Innovation hub, the Edo Production center, Edo Tech Park and the Edo Creative Hub. These have been put in place to get the youths and even teenagers engaged in activities relevant to today’s thriving enterprise. “We have decided to make issues that relate to youth development more structured through an important legal framework that will transcend this administration through the Edo Youth Development Policy, for which we are gathered here today. “This policy will address critical and relevant issues that Edo Youths face and measures that will be put in place to enable them to have access to basic services that their age demographic require.” The Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Chris Nehikhare, said the state government is concerned about the welfare of her citizenry and has continued to invest resources both fiscal and manpower in the socio-economic development of residents of the State. He added, “The youth demographic is a huge part of our population, and though they form the lower percentile of the working population, the contribution of the youth to national development cannot be undermined nor ignored. “The Nigerian youth, especially in recent happenings, have continued to stir up within themselves yearnings for wide-scale development and amplified their voices through self-motivated endeavours as well as role models-influenced achievements. “They have subtly but effectively dominated creative and tech-based business spaces and have created a niche for themselves which has evolved to normative and widely accepted environments for thriving businesses,” he added. Representatives of the GIZ, a German corporation in Nigeria, Constantin Pirjol said a policy that would encourage the employment of the youths should be put in place, nothing that it will go a long way in determining whether the youth population would be an asset or not. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said he had the “main responsibility” for a humiliating 4-0 loss away to Brentford on Saturday. The defeat left the one-time kings of English football bottom of the Premier League. Brentford, who only ended a 74-year absence from English football’s top flight with promotion to the Premier League in August 2021, scored four goals inside the opening 35 minutes to spark joyous scenes at their west London ground. United fell behind in woeful fashion when goalkeeper David de Gea somehow let a Josh Dasilva shot slip through his grasp before Mathias Jensen struck as the visitors failed to play out from the back. Ben Mee then exposed United’s frailty from set-pieces for his first Brentford goal and Bryan Mbuemo rounded off a stunning counter-attack 10 minutes before half-time. Former Ajax manager Ten Hag had seen his United reign begin with Brighton recording their maiden win at Old Trafford last week, but this defeat plunged the Red Devils to the bottom of the table for the first time in 30 years. “You have to take responsibility on the pitch as a team and as individuals, that’s what we didn’t do,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports. “What I asked them to do is play with belief and take responsibility for the performance. We have to work on that.” He added: “The manager is responsible as well. He has the main responsibility and I’ll take that and work on that.” In a separate interview with the BBC, the United manager said his team had to be “ready for the battle”. United were last crowned champions of England in the 2012/13 season in manager Alex Ferguson’s final campaign before retirement. But while Ten Hag was keen to bolster his squad, he was adamant the team he sent out at Brentford were far better than this result indicated. “It is clear we need players but I don’t want to think about that at this moment,” he said. The military high command has confirmed the arrest of Owo catholic church bombers. The arrest, according to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor was made possible by joint operations of all the security agencies. The CDS, who listed their names noted that the suspects, who are members of Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) are in custody. Recall that 40 people were killed when the gunmen stormed the church on June 5, opened fire on the congregation, and also detonated explosives as the worshippers scampered for safety. Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State had earlier claimed they also arrested some suspects in connection with the killings Briefing journalists in Akure on June 23, the state Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, expressed assurance that all the attackers of the worship center would be apprehended. Adeleye, however, did not give the actual figure of the suspected terrorists arrested. “As regards the Owo incident, we have recovered the last vehicle they used for that operation and we made some arrests and we have also recovered some vital things which we are working on,” he said. “A number of people have been arrested concerning the Owo issue as well as a well number of equipment. On that day, we pursued them to the point that we recovered the vehicle and we are still pursuing them We have told you that until we get to the root, I can assure you that the perpetrators and their sponsors will be brought to book.” Interested in learning graphic design? Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) John Aikpokpo-Martins (Esq.) Monday escalated Beauty Tukura’s predicament when he shared a post on Facebook revealing that the disqualified housemate of the Big Brother Naija Reality TV show may not be a lawyer. Recall that Beauty was disqualified from the BBNaija Season 7 reality show after she was given double strikes by Big Brother on Sunday. Aikpokpo-Martins reacting to Beauty’s disqualification explained that the action prompted a swift check on the database of the roll of legal practitioners kept at the Supreme Court and members of the NBA where none of which her name was found. In the statement titled: “Re: Beauty Takura, lawyer and former Miss Nigeria disqualified from BBNaija Season 7,” the lawyer urged anyone who may know her true identity, should that be the case, to come forward. He said: “My attention and I guess of a large number of lawyers in Nigeria have been drawn to news reports that one Beauty Tukura, who is claimed and/or claims to be a lawyer participated and also got ignominiously disqualified from the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show “for throwing her wig and glasses at” a co-participant in the show after a party. “These reports have been very embarrassing to most members of the legal profession and may in all reasonable probability bring the profession into disrepute if found to be true. “A quick check of the databases of the Roll of Legal Practitioners kept in the Supreme Court and the Nigerian Bar Association failed to reveal the name “Beauty Tukura” to be on the Supreme Court Roll or to be a member of the Nigerian Bar Association. “However, I hereby appeal to anyone who may be aware of her true name assuming we may have gotten her real name wrong to reach out to me”. Yakubu assured the inspector-general of police, heads of other security agencies and all members of ICCES that INEC would continue to work in synergy with them to ensure a safe and secured environment for the 2023 general election. “It is a critical election and we must all continue to work together to protect the will of the Nigerian people,” he said. |

Yusuf Ahmed-Baba, the running mate of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that both himself and Obi have solutions to end insecurity in Nigeria. Yusuf, however, failed to say what the plans to end the insecurity were, noting that there was no point talking about the plans as so many politicians had talked and failed. Yusuf spoke on Monday on Channels Television and also accused the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of failing to tackle insecurity in the country. Yusuf said he was ashamed that Buhari failed to secure Nigeria despite all his promises to end insecurity. Yusuf was speaking on the programme tagged ‘Politics Today’, and reacting to how Obi’s administration, if he won the elections, would tackle insecurity. Yusuf said, “We do, what have Nigerians not heard in the past? What has the All Progressives Congress not told Nigerians? What did Buhari not say about restoring security? Are Nigerians not tired of hearing people talk and doing the opposite? “Peter Obi and I are a completely a different mix, that is why we are seeking this opportunity and when we get it, we will deliver. “The importance of talking has been destroyed by this administration, I feel ashamed to talk because someone like Buhari has talked and he failed. “I don’t want to talk but act, we have the solution and by the grace of God, Nigerians will be safe and secured.” Insecurity has been the most sensitive situation for every Nigerian at the moment, with many staying on guards as they go about their daily activities. It is expected that electorate will be keenly interested in which presidential candidate has the best plan to tackle insecurity, and how to execute such. Yusuf was also asked on how he and Obi planned to address the education sector which has been married by persistent strikes. He said the way to end persistent strike actions of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria was consistent negotiations, adding that the Obi’s administration would be committed to welfare of lecturers.

ENUGU- THE people of Ishi-Ozalla community in Nkanu, Enugu state, are opposed to the governorship project of their son, Mr. Frank Nweke, Jnr, the governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Enugu State, for the 2023 elections, saying he should first make peace with them. The community was in crisis sometime in the past that led to some members of the community allegedly being ostracized and Nweke, a prince, was accused of being behind it, an allegation he however denied, saying he was not behind the action. The crisis even excavated to the extent that the community led a protest to Enugu Government House, calling for the intervention of the Government. However, ahead of 2023 election and with Nweke former Information minister, emerging the governorship of APGA, the community resurrected the issue and are now opposed to his governorship ambition. They told him to forget his governorship ambition and devote the energy towards restoring peace to the crisis-ridden community. In the statement by the community, under the aegis of Concerned Citizens of Ishi-Ozalla, entitled “charity begins at home”, they claimed the former minister had been unable to bring any form of development to his community, wondering he can turn Enugu State around, as he is promising. Signed by Dr. Muna Ebelechukwu, the statement said: “We heard that one of our sons and brother has taken the bull by the horn to contest the number one position in Enugu State. Ordinarily, this should gladden our hearts, but that is not the case owing to some obvious reasons.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, yesterday said that Nigeria was not broke. The former governor of Lagos state, disclosed this on a programme on Channels television. While fielding questions from Seun, programme anchor, the eloquent minister argued that being indebted and being able to service your debt in conventional finance is not being broke. Recall that the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, last week warned that urgent action is needed to address the nation’s revenue challenge and expenditure efficiency at both the national and sub-national levels Report sighted by Journalists showed that gross oil and gas federation revenue for the first four months of the year was projected at N3.12 trillion but as at April 30, only N1.23 trillion was realised, representing a mere 39% performance. However, reacting to the indebtedness of Nigeria, the Honorable Minister opined: “To the best of my knowledge, Nigeria is not broke. Being indebted and being able to service your debt in conventional finance is not being broke. “In any event you have to understand that the business of lending itself is a profitable business. So if nobody contracted debts where will all the banks and other financial institutions be? Where will they throw all the people they employ? “So this is a matter of credit rating and credit reputation. It is this home economics mentality that I cannot take debts that led us to take 12billion dollars cash to go and payoff a debt we could have rescheduled, renegotiated when our infrastructure was dying. That mentality must leave our table. “All the big nations we want to compete with are contracting debts to build their infrastructure and stand in competition. As long as you can service your debts, you are good. “I can conveniently tell you that I am not the Nigeria’s minister of Finance; my job is to spend the money not to earn it. “I am concerned and every responsible Nigerian should have his eyes on the debts and should be concerned.” |

Fadeyi maintained that the nature of his illness is still not known. I am supposed to go to a hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, but there is no money.” On the amount needed to cover his health bills, the actor, who often acts as a native doctor, said, “I don’t know how much will be needed at the hospital, so I don’t want to give an exact figure. I don’t want people to think I am fraudulent.” |
