GOVERNOR FAYOSE AND HIS FARCICAL AMBITION

One significant attribute one cannot take away from the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose is his close relationship with the people of Ekiti State, especially the common men. Ideally, Mr. Ayo Fayose has earned himself a reputation in this regard and this feature has qualified him as a grass root politician.
He is always in the news, not for commissioning of state projects or any form of positive initiatives but for being very critical and censorious to this present administration, I am constrained to agree that he is playing the roles of opposition anyway but his antics are now boring and a peak of banality. His constant efforts in bringing Buhari's administration to its toes has made him a bigwig and stakeholder in People’s Democratic Party. I used to be a fan of Mr. Ayo Fayose not until a day he sponsored a newspapers advertorial during the buildup to the 2015 general election where he reminded Nigerians how all former heads of state from the North East died in office, therefore and according to his political calculation, Buhari who is also from the same region and who was then the APC presidential aspirant could also die in office, this barbarity displayed by him didn't go down well with right thinking Nigerians and he wasn't even remorseful or apologetic.
Recently, the internet went agog when people woke up to the news that Mr. Fayose declared his intention to become the next Nigerian President, in all fairness to Mr Fayose, he has no legal impediment or encumbrance to jostle for such sensitive position but I vehemently assert that such ambition could remain a dream to Mr. Fayose and my reasons are not far-fetched. One would have expected that someone with such a big aspiration would have played his game wisely, strategically and tactically from inception but naivety, tokenism and cronyism engulfed his sense of political arithmetic. The following are reasons I believe Mr. Ayo Fayose's presidential ambition is a farce:

1. He has made himself the enemy of the North. Records have it that Northern parts of the country has the highest collection of Permanent Voter's Cards across the country and has the highest number of votes in our electoral history. This position translate to mean that Mr Fayose being a sworn enemy of the North cannot win most states ( if not all) in the North.

2. He is a friend of the East. Mr. Ayo Fayose has demonstrated his undying love for the Igbos and the East generally through his words and conduct but unfortunately all the votes of the Igbos and the East in general cannot make him a president. He should go and ask the former president (Goodluck Jonathan).

3. He will have less support from the South West. Already, most of the states in the southern part of the country are governed by the APC and the fact that Mr. Ayo Fayose's integrity in governance has been called to question on several occasions, this position which led to people asking why the kind of Fayose could be the best from a state with intellectual resources.

4. PDP has already zoned the presidential ticket to the North. Mr. Fayose's ambition might cause a division in the PDP and cause a great distraction to the party, therefore the party might be on another adventure to fraction and division.

Let Mr. Fayose continue chasing shadow till we await the coming of real and serious minded PDP presidential aspirant/s.
