Edo Election: PDP Approves Delegate List, Sets for Primary, February 22

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the delegate list for the Edo State Governorship Election Primary to nominate a candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the State.

The NWC has also approved the conduct of the Edo State Governorship Election Primary for Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The NWC charges all delegates, aspirants, leaders, critical stakeholders, members of our Party and the public to note the official date and venue and be guided accordingly.

*Edo developing a technological workforce to provide innovative solutions to societal problems, says Obaseki*

The Edo State Government has said reforms in the State’s civil service, over the past seven years, are aimed at developing a new generation of workers equipped with the necessary technology and expertise to create and provide innovative solutions to societal challenges.

The government said it is developing a technologically savvy workforce and harnessing the power of technology to enhance performance across all sectors of the State.

The Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa spoke during a Design Sprint Showcase event held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of Human Resources, Mr. George Igberase, the Edo Head of Service reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to establishing functional institutions that are capable and well-empowered to address societal needs.

Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and facilitated by the ACIOE Associates in collaboration with the Edo State Government, the Design Sprint exercise empowered over 150 graduates and officers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the State's civil and public service on the use of digital tools and processes to enhance service delivery.

According to Okungbowa, “The administration of His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki from inception set out to revolutionize the traditional way of doing things by focusing on revamping the civil/ public service of the State. One of the cardinal objectives of this goal was to create institutions that work.

“A look down seven years before now shows a period of unprecedented technological growth. The Government did not only embrace technology but adopted technology as a means of carrying out work processes in the service.”

He added, “One of the impacts of this is an improved and technology-driven workforce. Today, we are celebrating the achievements of some of our first officers in the service who now think, breathe, and speak technology. Today the officers will pitch their prototypes to us having gone through rigorous sessions of workshops and field work to identify challenges. They will also propose solutions that can be delivered through technology.”

In his remark, the Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor expressed confidence that the solutions developed during the course of the event would be put to good use, adding that the execution of projects stemming from these solutions would propel both the government and the governed forward.

He noted, “We had this Programme for the last two weeks where civil/public servants in Edo State have been coming together to brainstorm to figure out solutions to some of the problems we have in Government and in our society. They were able to showcase competence and their knowledge in understanding possible solutions.”


Stakeholders from various ministries, departments, agencies, and private partners attended the Design Sprint event. It also garnered participation from top government functionaries, including commissioners, Special Advisers, permanent secretaries, directors, and executive senior staff from different MDAs to discuss potential challenges affecting the State and explore innovative solutions to addressing them.

Your aspirations in becoming the Governor of Edo State is a joke taken too far and unrealistic in the State. I am advising you as a friend to take caution and do the right thing by honourably stepping down.

How could you even think of such ambition? You must be joking. How possible could you imagine yourself being Edo Governor? Do you take the state for joke or something?

I don't blame you, you have enjoyed so much relevance and support from Governor Obaseki and you think you can just wake any day and see yourself becoming Governor. It can never happen in this state. Forget about it.

You do not possess the connection, wisdom and strength to lead Edo State. How? You? Except I don't know you. Many persons in Edo know that you have been a key player in the corruption eating deeply in Edo politics. You don't possess the integrity needed by Edo people to be their governor. That can never happen in this State. Delete that thought from you.

I can see you have made yourself the spokesman for aggrieved aspirants of the PDP for the forthcoming primaries. I don't know who is funding you but please stop doing dirty jobs. You have done it in your law firm, as commissioner and till now. Don't you retire from this? What are you seriously enjoying doing dirty jobs?

Well, it's within your right as postulated in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to seek for elective positions but this right cannot work for you in Edo State. Please relax and support whoever emerges in PDP. First, I advise you to publicly step down from this aspiration and stop funding young and aspiring Edo Youth with data to promote your unrealistic expectations to becoming Governor. Use the monies to give these youth a better life and opportunity. You can't be wasting your time, energies and resources for what won't be.

Your ambition to becoming Edo PDP gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State is "Dead on Arrival" it's like wishing a rotten dead body to come back to life which is very impossible even if 7 demons are involved.

You can't succeed in this card of destruction you are about playing just because money is floating from it. It is not very difficult for you to dump PDP Godforbid we lose this State to APC cause you are a political business man. Highest bidder politician. When the funds stops coming you start crying.

You cannot use your greed to destroy Edo PDP. I advise that you step down or watch your political career being destroyed by your greed. Stop making yourself available for dirty jobs. It's time to retire and leave the stage.

Indeed! The boys showed class and great strength but were unfortunate with the outcome of the match coupled with some poor officiating from the Central Referee who at some point became biased with his whistle during the match. Thanks a lot Your Excellency Sir for celebrating the boys

The Congress was very peaceful, free, fair and credible not just from my Local Government in Oredo but across the other 16 Local Government Areas where the Exercise was equally carried out which is a positive testament to the fact that the PDP is not only organised in Edo State but the party is truly loved by Edo People as well.

*AFCON 2023: Obaseki to host Osimhen, others after tournament*

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has promised to host Edo-born 2023 African Footballer of the Year and Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen and other Super Eagles players of Edo origin after the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition taking place in Ivory Coast.

Obaseki said this while speaking to journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, shortly after the Super Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 score line in regulation time.

Obaseki watched the match at Ring Road, one of the viewing centers set up by the government for free live transmission of the AFCON semi-final clash between Nigeria and South Africa.

The governor said, “We can’t thank Osimhen enough and all these young stars. They have made Nigerians proud. We are very glad and happy over the final outcome of the game. My administration has the intention of inviting Victor Osimhen to Edo State after the end of the tournament.”

On his part, the Chief of Staff to Edo State Governor, Dr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, said, “Congratulations Nigerians, Congratulations Super Eagles; See you in the finals. This game was a wonderful one and we want to thank Governor Obaseki for creating the atmosphere for Edo people to watch the match.

“From this viewing center, you can see the mammoth crowd. We have nine locations today created for people of the State to watch the game including the hometown of our own striker, Victor Osimhen. We also have one of our own Osayi; Onyeka was also born in Benin; they have all made us proud.”

This mannis only being very irrational and mischievous coupled with the fact that he is only trying to seek undue attention which he and his likes can never get in real life.

His meddlesomeness in the partisan Affairs of the PDP is very laughable and unnecessary

This is surely going to be a very exciting encounter between Super Eagles of Nigeria 🇳🇬 and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa 🇿🇦 but the Nigerian team shall emerge victorious today by the special Grace of God Almighty 👏

The Congress Election is the best ever organised election ever in the annals of Edo State and Nigeria but the unfortunate kidnap of the Officials in Etsako Central is very disheartening & unacceptable. The Inspector General of Police should immediately wade into this matter and ensure that those behind such heinous act are brought to book. They would be meant to face the full wrath of the law since they have chosen to run foul of the law with their inordinate actions.

Joe Tenebe would keep firing blanks and never be relevant with his cynical approach to administrative affairs in Edo State because he has refused to accept the MEGA fact that His Excellency Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has performed Excellently well in the Economic Sector of Edo State over the past 8 years of his MEGA ADMINISTRATION.
