Edo govt assures sustained partnership with USAID to improve citizens' health, wellbeing

The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a lasting partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ensuring interventions are geared towards guaranteeing improved health and wellbeing of citizens of the State.

The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samuel Alli, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by a USAID team, led by Angela Agwalye, at his office, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The Commissioner, who expressed appreciation to the partners for their ongoing projects and support for the State, emphasized the importance of targeted and data-driven programmes for effective interventions.

During the meeting, Agwalye, the lead of the USAID team, extended gratitude to the Commissioner for the opportunity to share information about USAID-funded projects in Edo.

She highlighted the purpose of their visit, which included assessing current transition programmes and ensuring seamless support for HIV treatment services in Edo State.

According to her, “This visit to the Ministry is to formally introduce all the USAID funded projects to the State Government. The projects had started few years back but we haven't had the opportunity to formally inform the State Government about them.

“Moreso, the visit is to provide immediate support and guidance to the team on ground as much as possible and to ensure there is no interruption in HIV treatment services that is being provided to our clients and other services within the HIV key population programmes in Edo State.:

She added, “With the new key population programme, it brings about four projects that USAID is funding in Edo State.”

This is a very welcome development in Edo State as it would help to boost the Health Reforms and Programmes Currently ongoing in Edo State. It would further consolidate both the USAID Efforts and the Edo State Government in cushioning the effects of HIV/AIDS through adequate treatment of those infected with the disease
