In a striking reflection of Nigeria’s deepening unemployment crisis, more than 11,000 hopeful applicants have applied for just 100 job openings at the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission — and the application portal has only been open for three days.

The Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, revealed the staggering figure while speaking to journalists on Thursday.

According to him, as of Thursday evening, the number of applicants had already hit 10,757, and just two hours later, by 10 p.m., it crossed the 11,000 mark.

The online application portal was opened on April 7 and is expected to close by midnight on Sunday, but the sheer volume of submissions in just a few days has raised eyebrows and underlined the depth of joblessness, particularly among young Nigerians.



He noted that the commission’s recruitment drive is part of a broader effort to strengthen its manpower and improve service delivery, but admitted that the overwhelming number of applicants speaks to something far more serious.



The development has once again thrown the spotlight on the growing youth unemployment in Nigeria, where millions of graduates struggle to find meaningful employment in both the public and private sectors.

Observers say the current situation in Kano is a microcosm of a national problem that demands urgent and coordinated intervention at all levels of government.

You first check the course to make sure it is not a 'useless course' abi. It is naija that has no opportunities that make some course of studies seem 'useless'. In societies that are working those same courses open doors of rare opportunity. Remember, no knowledge is a waste.
