The Manchester United boss is angry that other clubs went against having five substitutes in the English top division this season Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he couldn’t believe that teams voted against having five substitutes in the Premier League this season. The rule was brought in during Project Restart to help teams deal with the intense schedule while trying to finish the last campaign, however teams voted against keeping the rule for the current season and reverted to three substitutes. “I don’t understand and cannot believe that the vote went against that because we have to look after the players and think about the players,” Solskjaer told his pre-match press conference. “This season is the most demanding season of all. I can see the point why clubs voted against but if you take a step back and think about these professional footballers and their mental and physical health the only sensible solution would have been to give us the opportunity to rest a few more. “We have already seen loads of injuries in the Premier League. Pep [Guardiola] has been talking about it, other managers too. We as managers, as clubs, as medical staff, we have to look after them, that’s why we have to rest players at certain times. So, yeah, I would have liked to have had five subs.” Solskjaer would have relished the five substitutes rule even more now he believes he has a stronger squad to utilise. The Norwegian managed to give rests to Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the 5-0 hammering of RB Leipzig on Wednesday – the latter coming off the bench to score a hat-trick – and the team have won three of their last four games in all competitions while rotating his squad. “At the moment, we are looking like a Man United squad. I’ve got opportunities, I’ve got competition for places,” Solskjaer said. “Any successful team in the modern era of football have had that option to rest players, to rotate and that is probably the only way you can last in the most intense league in the world for me and also with Champions League involved, and you want go for the trophies.” Alex Telles, who is isolating after a positive Covid-19 test, is the only expected absentee as United prepare to take on Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday and it will be another test of Solskjaer’s management skills as to how he rotates his team to get a result. He will be hoping the momentum after four good results continues with the visit of Arsenal to Old Trafford this weekend, and the United manager explained why the rivalry isn’t as strong as it used to be back when he was playing in the late 90s and early 2000s. “I think football has developed and so many clubs have developed strength in depth and the ability to challenge for the trophies so even though the last two seasons you’ve had two teams running away with it, I think this season a lot us just underneath them would hope to put up a challenge,” Solskjaer said. “Back then we felt it was either us or Arsenal, and then Chelsea came through as well. For me now it’s probably more exciting and interesting, for the fans as well and everyone that just don’t really have, ‘it’s going to be one of these two’. “It’s shown this season – anything can happen this season, what’s happening around the world. We’re just taking one game at a time.”

Super Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr is set for a fresh injury dilemma ahead of next month 2022 AFCON qualifiers against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone. The latest reports from Bordeaux revealed that Super Eagles winger Samuel may not be available for the AFCON doubleheader after the versatile winger picked fresh injury while on national duty last week. Bordeaux manager Jean Lou’s Gasset then lamented Kalu’s latest injury woe, which according to him is coming at a time when his services are needed most.“The team had its quirks of inconstancy. Everything that happens to us, the loss of Laurent Koscielny, Samuel Kalu, the arrival of Hatem Ben Arfa, it rebuilds the puzzle every time. “We lost the pillar of our defense, a player that we had managed to bring to a good level. Samuel Kalu started to score goals then, unfortunately, got injured with the national team”. he told girondins33.comThe 23-year-old winger who recently reiterated his commitment to the club joined the Girondins in the summer of 2018 after signing a five-year deal. Kalu has featured in more than 40 league games for the side and made 20 league appearances for Jean Louis Gasset’s men to help them finish 12th last season.

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill has described John Obi Mikel as one of the club’s best marquee signing whose wealth of tactical experience is beginning to rub on the team’s performance. Mikel skippered his side’s 2-2 draw with Barnsley before going on to lead them to victory against Brentford on Saturday.“John’s been good and I think with every game he gets better. We knew it would take him a bit of time having not played since March. He was not going to come in and be straight up to speed,” O’Neill told StokeonTrentLive. “But I think he has done exceptionally well to get through 90 minutes as often as he has done and I think with every 90 minutes we see an improvement in his level of performance.“I think you can see what he brings to the team with that physical presence and quality on the ball as well.“Particularly against Barnsley we started to see some great play and real intricate passing from him as well. “He does a great job for the team, John. He has great tactical knowledge and he is a real help for the players around him as well.”“I think John is (up to speed) now. He has a style of play that sometimes makes it look like he’s off the pace but that’s not the case when you reanalyze the game.O’Neil further described Mikel as being economical with the ball despite his tactical abilities, adding that Stoke City is very lucky to have a player of his pedigree around. “He’s just very economical in how he plays and more importantly he’s very efficient with his use of the ball.“We’re delighted with what he’s brought to the team.” he concluded.

Contrary to widespread reports that Barcelona teenage sensation Ansu Fati is the youngest ever goalscorer in the history of El Clasico following his goal during his side’s 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the Nou Camp. New reports suggests that the Spanish international does not hold the record as he is the second youngest scorer in the history of the fixture – as former Barcelona player Alfonso Navarro was three days younger than him when he netted in the clash, all the way back in 1947. Teenage sensation Fati already had secured the records of being the youngest ever scorer in the history of Barcelona, of the Spanish national team and in the Champions League. Fati cancelled out Federico Valverde’s opener for Real Madrid but the Los Blancos emerged winners after two second half goals from Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric to ensure Zinedine Zidane stayed unbeaten in six matches against Barcelona with three wins and three draws. Fati is highly rated and has already played four times for the Spanish national team at 17, scoring one in four appearances.

Determined to make an appreciable impact in Fulham’s quest to avoid a drop this season, Super Eagles left full-back, Ola Aina is looking forward to The Cottagers’ first EPL win this weekend. As long as the veteran defender is in Los Merengues’ backline, you can’t write them off… Sergio Ramos has won it all in football. He boasts the kind of resume and honours list that very few players in the world game can ever hope to achieve, having conquered every obstacle in front of him since signing for Real Madrid in 2005. He’s won five Spanish titles with Los Merengues—clinching the fifth earlier this year—and has also been a part of four Champions League-winning sides following his arrival from Sevilla. There isn’t another competition he’s been in with Real that he hasn’t won, having got his hands on the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, the Uefa Super Cup and the Club World Cup since he arrived in the Spanish capital 15 years ago. At international level, it’s been a similar story, with the elegant defender becoming one of La Roja’s greatest ever players since first making his name with the U19 team and then making his debut in 2005 before his 19th birthday. At the time, he was the youngest player to represent Spain for over half a century, but the show of faith from the national team selectors was well rewarded. In the intervening years, Ramos has won a World Cup—Spain’s first in 2010—and been part of two European Championship-winning squads. He reached a century of Spain caps seven years ago, and is comfortably the country’s most capped player of all time. With 175 appearances for the national side, he could well reach 200 outings for La Roja over the coming years. What makes Ramos such a key figure both for the national team and for Real is his relentless desire to win and his unswerving winning mentality. Admittedly, it hasn’t made him a completely beloved figure among opposition fans, but who could forget that late, late equaliser in the Champions League final of 2014 as Atletico Madrid were dispatched in Lisbon. In that fixture, against their fierce city rivals, trailing after Diego Godin’s opener, with La Decima on the line, all hope appeared lost, but in the 93rd minute, Ramos stood up and ended the 12-year wait for European gold. Some players, having achieved as much as Ramos has in the game, would have allowed their desire for silverware dim slightly. After all, here’s a player who has made Uefa’s Team of the Year on eight occasions…what more is there for him to achieve?! However, as the years wear on, and Ramos enters his mid-30s, he shows little sign of slowing down. Despite a questionable disciplinary record and a whopping 26 career red cards, the mental side of his game—his reading of dangerous situations, defensive positioning, and anticipation—are elite, while his physicality and athleticism help him get the better of most strikers. He’s not one to rest on his laurels, and gladly puts his body on the line for the benefit of the team; it doesn’t matter if it’s a cup game against lower league opponents, or the Champions League final, Ramos is willing to sacrifice for the team. For almost every one of those red cards, however, there’s been a major trophy, and while Ramos isn’t everyone’s cup of tea—just ask Liverpool fans —he is destined to go down as one of the game’s enduring figures and one of the finest defenders in sport’s history. For Real Madrid fans, he’s something more, a symbol of a glorious era, and a mark of consistency, elegance and victory that encapsulates the club’s identity.

t might be happening a bit later than usual, but Apple has just announced the iPhone 12. It might be happening a bit later than usual, but Apple has just announced the iPhone 12. Apple announces iPhone 12 Featuring the same 6.1-inch display size as the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR before it, the latest “main” iPhone — and likely the model most people will gravitate toward — is making the transition from an LCD screen to OLED. And as rumored, the phone has flat sides for an overall look that more closely matches the iPad Pro and iPad Air (plus the iPhone 4 from years ago). The iPhone 12 will come in black, white, blue, red, and green. Aside from the flat sides, it still largely resembles the iPhone 11. There’s still a notch at the top that houses Apple’s Face ID technology, though the bezels around the screen have been reduced — another perk of the OLED switch. Around back, the iPhone 12 has two cameras housed in a matte glass squircle, which makes for a nice contrast with the rest of the glossy back panel. The iPhone 12 represents Apple’s first major foray into 5G cellular technologies.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of lacking the ability and temperament to lead a diverse country like Nigeria. The accusation comes from Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education. She said this while speaking with Daily Independent. Ezekwesili, a former presidential candidate who is launching a new initiative called #FixPolitics, said Nigeria’s religious divides and differences have become deeper now due to the “irresponsible, clannish, provincial, incompetent, and ineffectual management of our diversity by President Buhari”. According to her, while countries like Botswana, Singapore, and South Korea that gained independence in the 1960s like Nigeria had successfully transformed their societies, Nigeria was still groping in the dark due to the fact that the citizens are not bound by common aspirations and shared principles. She said: “As a result of those failures to build consensus, Nigeria has hobbled along as a country of people who are not unified around common aspirations and shared principles. “How different the outcomes would be if we were a country guided by aspirations like equal opportunity, inclusive growth and prosperity, social cohesion and stability. “These are proven from our #FixPolitics research as some of the building blocks on which other countries transformed their societies. “We found countries like Botswana, Singapore, and South Korea to have prioritised human development, merit, productivity and healthy competition among constituent parts, as well as their citizens. “The results show up in their economic performance and the vastly improved wellbeing of their citizens in contrast to Nigeria – all three countries gained independence in the 1960s from Britain”. However, reality is setting in now. For after many decades of ignoring the obvious, it is becoming clearer to all discerning and reasonable compatriots that our union is facing the severest threat to its existence now. “All is simply not well with Nigeria and Nigerians. Our country, Nigeria, is on the brink of a break-up despite the delusional protestations of Federal Government officials and their sycophants. “Our ethnic and religious divides and differences have never been sharper and deeper than now. “And this is all because of the irresponsible, clannish, provincial, incompetent, and ineffectual management of our diversity by President Buhari who simply does not know how to nor have the temperament to learn how to lead a diverse society like Nigeria. “The totality of factors that threaten the existence of Nigeria are expressed in the consistent and unabashed ethnic bigotry of President Buhari.” Ezekwesili said Buhari was far worse than his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan. She added: “That President Buhari – who was elected by a representative section of the Nigerian people in a protest vote against his failed predecessor – has in turn dug Nigeria deeper into the trenches of humongous failure, will remain a wonder of historical proportion. “Nigeria’s failures under President Buhari have become profoundly unsustainable. “It is perplexing to watch our political leaders carrying on with their pretense that Nigeria is currently being governed. “How can the political leadership of a country which is practically insolvent, terribly brittle on all fronts of national security and lost its diplomatic leadership and influence even in West Africa keep acting as if everything is normal?” Ezekwesili, who said that there was no difference between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), added that politicians in both parties were like Siamese twins who placed their selfish interests over and above the wellbeing of the people they govern. “Such imperviousness was the same attitude exhibited by the previous government of the current opposition party. “Most Nigerians are fed up with the Siamese Twins-type syndrome of our politicians, regardless of whether they belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “Their party acronyms may differ but the people in our politics today are of one embryo and exhibit a common and dominant political culture that places the narrow interests of our politicians over and above the wellbeing of the people they govern. “Nigerians have experienced and now openly express frustration at the ‘hand-down’ and ‘turn-by-turn failure’ of the political leadership class in Nigeria at the federal, state or local government levels. “They are designed by the environment that enables them to act without consequences and the incentive they respond to, to govern in ways that do not produce results for
