It was gathered that the fight which reportedly started on Sunday night, during a social function organised at Alaafia street was said to have degenerated till Monday, November 16 and extended to Daniel street, Idi-Araba and Idi-Oro areas.

Another resident, Wale, said the police ignored their calls for help. “They told us to deal with the situation as they will only come after the fracas. Please, help call whoever you know that can help us. We are under serious attack,” he said.

The hoodlums were chased away by some officers who later turned up, but they returned with guns and chased the officers away.

The Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area Emmanuel Bamigboye later visited the scene with reinforcement of police officers.

Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu said 12 suspects have been arrested, adding that surveillance teams have been deployed in the affected areas.

According to him, the police have continued clearance of identified black spots across the state. He added that some stolen police items have also been recovered.

“We have recovered some items that were stolen from one of the stations before it was set ablaze. We recovered some firearms and even some vehicles. I will be parading suspects arrested in the last one week tomorrow (Tuesday). I have deployed reinforcement to Mushin and there are surveillance teams there. The suspects have been moved to a safe place, out of Mushin,” he added.

Following the anxiety in the state after the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination results were withheld by the West African Examination Council, the Ekiti State government has assured parents, students and education stakeholders in the state that the results would be released on Friday, November 6.


Tension mounted in the state as candidates and their parents who besieged the schools and cybercafés to check the results for the examination realised that the results were being withheld by the examination council.

WAEC had in a statement on Monday announced the release of the results of the 2020 WASSCE.

It was learnt that parents became more agitated because it was rumoured that the state government owed the examination body several millions of naira being the free WAEC fee declared for all students in public schools by Governor Kayode Fayemi,

A parent said, “The government must have pity for these students who had to stay at home for months before the examination was written. They must please look for ways to sort out whatever caused this unwholesome development because many of the candidates will use the results for university admission. We plead and beg that the government must do this fast.”

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Akin Omole, who debunked the allegation of the state’s indebtedness to WAEC, said the results were put on hold owing to an error in computation.

Omole said, “The seizure was caused by the mistakes made in some of the ways the results were computed. The issue of Ekiti owing money doesn’t arise, it was a blatant lie. The government immediately contacted WAEC and it tendered apologies to the state.

“We appeal to our candidates and parents not to be ruffled by this. The government is handling the issue with all seriousness. Going by what WAEC said, the results will be released either on Thursday or Friday this week,” the commissioner said.

The leaders of Obede Isiugwu in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State have accused Fabian Eke of subjecting their people to a reign of terror.


Fabian Eke, the traditional ruler of Obede Isiugwu, a community in Enugu state, has been accused of killing people and intimidating others.

According to SaharaReporters, the leaders of Obede Isiugwu in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State have accused Fabian Eke of subjecting their people to a reign of terror since he ascended the throne.

They had in a petition to the Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alleged that Eke was responsible for nine verifiable deaths in their community.
Five of the murders were allegedly linked to persons behind the move of the Obede people to form an autonomous community separate from the umbrella Ugwuoji precinct.

The petitioners, who addressed themselves as members of the Obede General Assembly, said Eke had changed the security architecture of the community and installed Ikechukwu Omeje, a man of questionable character, to oversee the protection of life and property in the enclave.

Omeje had in turn, as they alleged, used his office to serve as a hit squad for the Igwe.

“He single-handedly projected Omeje as the head of security in Obede Isiugwu and as the Igwe’s errand soldier who goes about doing his master’s bidding. Upon the emergence of this new order in our community’s security architecture, strange things began to occur to the extent that people got killed and their bodies dismembered in the most bizarre and questionable circumstances,” an excerpt of the letter sent to Ugwuanyi read.

“The ritual killing/murders started at Obede Isiugwu in 2016 when four persons were gruesomely murdered, their blood tapped, sucked and collected with some vital organs missing. Their names are: Fidex Idoko, Ikechukwu Idoko, Christiana Amujiri Lydia and the last person was Virgina Ali, who was killed in February 2020.”

In an interview with SaharaReporters, Iyida Ejiofor, who would assume Igwe of the Obede community if their desire to break out of Ugwuoji is achieved, said the last victim was killed shortly after she had gone to different places of worship to speak against the activities of Eke and Omeje.

“The woman that died in February, she had gone to one or two churches and was saying that ‘the people that are killing people like these, it won’t be better for them.’ Next thing, they killed her,” Ejiofor said.

According to the general assembly, the secretary of the proposed autonomous community, Cletus Odo, is among five other persons allegedly murdered by Eke and Omeje.

“Besides the death of the afore-mentioned citizens of Obede Isiugwu Community through ritual killings, no fewer than five other members of the community have died in mysterious circumstances that defied explanation in recent time. These people before the untimely death, were front-liners in the agitation for the creation of the proposed autonomous community particularly Mr. Cletus Odo (a.k.a. Funky) who was acting as the secretary of the proposed autonomous community and Mr. Mathias Ugwuanyi,” the petition to the Enugu state governor wrote.

They said they have tried unsuccessfully to bring these deaths up for investigation.

Their efforts have been thwarted by the same pair, whom they claim have control of the police command in the area.

“Surprisingly when incidents of killing in the case of those who were murdered, were reported to the police, Igwe Fabian Eke would interfere with police investigation by trying to convince the police that such persons died of natural cause and would compel the families of such victims of questionable death to make similar statement to the police that the victims died naturally. How he was able to have his way with the police, each time such an incident of death occurred has remained inexplicable and most worrisome to us as a people,” they said.

Instances of killing and torture aside, the community leaders said that they have been maginalised, accusing the Igwe of sponsoring false claims against them.

In one instance, he reportedly petitioned the Department of State Services that Obede community was planning a tribal war.

“Among the treacherous indulgences of Igwe Fabian Eke was the sponsoring of a trumped up and frivolous petition founded on false information which was forwarded to the Department of State Service (DSS) and Ogunte Police Station, alleging that Obede community stopped Umuopu people from entering their place and that they were organizing a tribal war. The false allegation led to the arrest of four (4) persons at Obede but they were later released when the police and DSS found out that the allegation was false.”

The Obede community leader, Ejiofor, added that Eke rerouted a power project that would have connected the aggrieved area to the national grid.

He claimed that he gave Eke N400,000 for the erection of an electricity pole to rectify the problem and nothing has been done.

SaharaReporters reached out to two family members of some of the slain victims. One of them who responded, Christian Idoko, the brother of Ike Idoko, who was murdered in 2018, said no one in his family could authoritatively say the person that killed his brother.

Christian, who is based in Lagos, said he was not in the village when it happened.

“What I was told is this: he slept in the night, at daybreak no one saw him so they went into his house. They found out that some people attacked him with machetes. They tried to rush him to hospital but he was dead,” he said.

Christian maintained that Ike lived alone and no one saw the assailants come in or go out.

Responding to the allegations of insecurity and killings sponsored by him, Igwe Fabian Eke said via text that the allegations were “totally untrue.”

“Someone who wants to be Igwe in a non-existent community within Ugwuoji community is spreading unfounded rumour against me for no just cause. My community is in peace and the troublemakers are in a civil court in SUIT NO EZ/16/2020. Check out our statement of defence and counter at Enugu Ezike High Court over that matter and your story will be complete. Thank you for hearing from me,” he said.

The reporter tried further to have a conversation with Igwe to ascertain the specific civil case in court but he said he was in a meeting and was unwilling to address a case already undergoing legal proceedings.

SaharaReporters learned that the case in question was related to one of the attacks allegedly linked to Omeje that the community was able to bring to a police station in Abia State.

A 70-year-old man was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed building in the Turkish city of Izmir on Sunday, after being buried for 33 hours following a powerful earthquake which struck Turkey’s Aegean coast and Greek islands.


Turkish authorities reported more deaths on Sunday, bringing the toll to 62, all in Izmir, while two teenagers died on the Greek island of Samos.

The man, identified as Ahmet Citim, was rescued from one of 20 residential buildings destroyed in Izmir’s Bayrakli district, a former shantytown where older buildings vulnerable to earthquakes were being replaced by newer construction projects. Television images showed that the collapsed buildings were older ones.

Rescue and emergency teams have been working through the wrecked buildings for two days and President Tayyip Erdogan said his government was “determined to heal the wounds of our brothers and sisters in Izmir before the cold and rains begin.”

More than 3,000 tents and 13,000 beds have been supplied to provide temporary shelter, according to Turkey’s disasters and emergency agency AFAD, which said 940 people had been injured in Friday’s earthquake.

More than 700 victims have so far been discharged from hospitals, while eight remain in intensive care, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

Turkey is crossed by fault lines and is prone to earthquakes. In 1999, two powerful quakes killed 18,000 people in northwestern Turkey.

Friday’s earthquake, which the Istanbul-based Kandilli Institute said had a magnitude of 6.9, was centered in the Aegean Sea, northeast of Samos.

Sixteen-year-old Inci Okan was trapped under the rubble of the same 8-storey building as the elderly man before being rescued 17 hours after the strong quake, along with her dog Fistik (Pistachio).

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca and National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) member Edanur Dogan visited Okan at hospital.

Emergency worker Dogan had held the girl’s hand while rescue teams removed the debris above her.

“I am very happy. Thankfully my father was not at home. My father couldn’t fit there. He would hurt his head. I am tiny. I am short so I squeezed in and that’s how I was rescued. We stayed home with my dog. Both of us are well,” Okan said from her hospital bed.

Okan promised to play the violin for Dogan after being discharged from hospital.

“I will play the violin for you, I promise.”

Eson Fatgoel, a 26-year-old man, has gotten himself into more trouble than h saw coming.

The man is now in police custody for circulating and spending counterfeit naira notes in Adamawa State.


Fatgoel was reported to have been spending fake naira notes in exchange for goods and services around Guyuk, Lafiya and Numan towns.

Spokesperson for the police in the state, DSP Suleiman Yahya Nguroje, confirmed the arrest of the suspect to journalists in Yola, the state capital, on Sunday.

He said, “Investigation further revealed that the counterfeit notes are still in circulation in those areas. The public, particularly traders, should observe while trading in exchange to avoid falling victim.

Popular Nigerian pastor, Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has explained why coronavirus did not consume Nigeria. He made his statement on Sunday.


Adeboye, who is the General Overseer of RCCG, disclosed that the mercy of God saved Nigeria from being consumed by COVID-19.
