The Federal Government on Tuesday in Abuja pledged to look into the controversy over the cut-off marks for students seeking for admission into universities.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr MacJohn ‎Nwaobiala‎, disclosed this to State House correspondents after briefing President Muhammed Buhari on the activities of the ministry.
According to him, the matter was being resolved as consultations were on to see where adjustment could be made.

Nwaobiala, therefore, urged students who made the cut-off marks to proceed to their universities of first and second choices to write the post-University Matriculation Examinations (UME).


On the meeting with President Buhari, the Permanent Secretary said the president expressed concern over the persistent delay in the payment of teachers’ salaries by some state governments.
‎Nwaobiala‎, who led the ministry’s delegation to the briefing, said the President was “pained” by the plight of the teachers, some of who were owed up to 12 months’ salary arrears.

A former government minister in Nigeria stole $6bn (£3.8bn) of public money, a state governor has alleged.Adams Oshiomhole said US officials informed President Muhammadu Buhari of the alleged theft during his visit to Washington last month.
Mr Buhari took office in May, ending the rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP has repeatedly denied allegations of widespread corruption during its 16-year rule.
Mr Oshiomhole, who accompanied Mr Buhari to Washington, did not name the minister who allegedly stole the money.
During his visit to the US, Mr Buhari said he had asked the US to help recover $150bn “stolen in the past decade and held in foreign bank accounts”.
US officials described the theft during the PDP’s rule as “earth-quaking”, Mr Oshiomhole, the Edo State governor, told journalists in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The PDP said Mr Buhari’s visit to Washington was a failure, in particular for failing to obtain “any sort of tangible gain for the fight against terrorism”.
Mr Buhari, a former military ruler, was invited to Washington shortly after becoming the first opposition candidate to win a national election in March.
He succeeded President Goodluck Jonathan.
Nigeria is Africa’s biggest oil producer, but the majority of its citizens live in poverty. Its oil sector has often been hit by allegations of corruption.

Bethany Harvey was taking a Snapchat image of herself and her nephew, but says she never expected a creepy presence to pop in for the snap. Bethany, from Northern Ireland, explained:

"I was taking a picture on Snapchat of my nephew and I, but my sister jumped into the background so I captioned the picture 'photo bombed!' I set the picture as my story so everyone could see it."

But Bethany didn't notice anything amiss with the sweet snap until later that evening, reports the Irish Mirror.

"A friend of mine came to my house that night and pointed out what looks to be a woman with her hands folded on her knees in the background, baring in mind the picture was taken facing the living room door. Although we can't see the face of the figure the rest of it is as clear as day."

And Bethany is adamant that there was no one else in the room when the picture was taken:

"There was nobody else in the living room at the time, except for the ghost girl in the purple dress."

According to Premium Times, the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis has announced that it has arrested the suspects that set ablaze two campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan in Jos yesterday.
The spokesperson of the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, announced the arrest in a telephone interview with journalists in Jos on Sunday, but declined to state the number of people arrested.
A witness to the arrest, however, said six people were arrested and that some of them might not have been involved in the incident.

The attack has however been condemned by both Mr. Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party, and the president’s major challenger, Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

Most of us who do not live in the North really have little or no understanding of what is actually going on there. It’s like a war in some places, really really sad. These people have no place to go; it’s their town, their father’s town! Where they lived and grew. Damaturu in Yobe State is presently under attack as you read this. The attack started around 8pm this night. Just barbaric! Wicked!! Premium Times have a scoop on what is presently going on right now. Read it after the cut.


Damaturu, the Yobe state capital has again come under intense assault by suspected Boko Haram militants, barely a month after a similar attack killed many residents.

Residents and security operatives said the city is currently under heavy gunfire and multiple explosions forcing people to cringe in their homes.

Umar Haruna, a civil servant residing in Damaturu told Premium Times that the city and its residents have come under attack again.

He said the attack started at about 8p.m.

“We are under attack; gun shooting everywhere in Damaturu…we dont know what to do now,” he said.

A top security officer of the State Security Service, SSS, who refused to be because he was not authorised to speak, told our correspondent via SMS that “Yes, there is an attack going on here and I believe the soldiers and the police are containing the attacks.”

The attack is the second in the last two months on Damaturu.

The insurgents had launched a heavy attack on the capital on December 1, targeting the government house.


The attack was successfully repelled by the Nigerian security forces.

A Lagos traditional ruler, Baale Abeeb Lawal, who heads Ikolalumo in Meiran/Ajasa command area Lagos state, has brutally assaulted his wife over a phone conversation on New Year day. It was said that he gave his wife a signal to end a phone conversation she was currently on, but she thought he asked her to lower her voice, so she did.


The baale who thought she purposely disobeyed him pounded on her severally and hit her with a said heavy chair he picked him. Not satisfied, he broke a bottle and stabbed her at the back. When the blood flow from her body won’t stop gushing out, she fainted and was then rushed to a private hospital by neighbours who had gathered watching the drama. Sadly in all, the woman was half naked in the whole fracas with her breasts in glaring eyes.

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has lost his younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei, the presidency announced Sunday evening.

Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said in a statement that Mrs. Jonathan-Olei passed away earlier on Sunday at a hospital in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa - which is the President's home state- after a brief illness.

She was 52 years old.
