Come to think of it,igbo is the oldest ethnic group in Nigeria but how come such a large and old ethic group occupy only a small area of land, just 41,000 sqkm compared to other major ethnic groups in Nigeria.the answer is simple if you look at it with observant lens, the first set of people to speak the language we call igbo today occupy a huge land mass which stretch from the delta of the Niger to the northern bank of River benue as far as nassarawa.
the language spoken then cannot be called igbo as it is called today because "igbo" word is a recent language so we will use the term "ancient igbo".
as the speakers migrate from their original homeland to other lands the language tends to change but retain some relevant words of the original language.
If you a intellegent and observant you will be able to trace the ethic groups that made up this "ancient igbo" race, this groups from my observation are idomas, igedes, igallas and igbos, if you study these languages you will notice they share lots of words in common, the igallas in kogi still retain market days peculiar to igbos in the Southeast,the idomas and igede still share some certain words with southeast igbos like ewu, Ada,onye I can't list them all.
