157 People unfortunately lost their lives in Ethiopian airline Boeing 737 which crashed just 6 minutes after take-off at 8:44am.

On board the flight were 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, 9 Ethiopians, 8 Chinese, 8 Italians, 8 Americans, 7 people each from France and the united kingdoms, 6 Egyptians, 5 Germans, 4 people each from Slovakia and India, 3 people each from Austria, Russia, Sweden, and 2 people each from Spain, Israel, Poland, morocco and Nigeria.

passengers also from Belgium, Djibouti, Indonesia, Ireland, Mozambique, Norway, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Serbia, Togo, Uganda, Yemeni, Nepal were on board the plane which crashed as Ethiopian airline was a successful and well recognized airline company.

on board were 2 Nigerians as earlier stated, Pius Adesanmi, a Nigerian-born Canadian professor, writer, literary critic, satirist, and columnist. He was the author of Naija No Dey Carry Last, a collection of satirical essays. and ambassador Abiodun Bashua, a former Joint Special Representative for the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, Sudan.


Pius Adesanmi was a lecturer at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where he taught as a Professor of literature and African studies; he was the director of the university's Institute of African Studies.

he was born in Isanlu, in Yagba East Local Government area of kogi state, Nigeria. He earned a BA (first class honours) from the university of ilorin in 1992, a Master's in French from the university of Ibadan in 1998, and a PhD in French Studies from the university of British Columbia in 2002. he was a regular columnist for premium times and Sahara reporters where he was a satiric writer, focusing on the Nigeria social and economy system.
