My niche is article writing, and non-fiction/self- help books ghost writing. I also edit and proofread e-books (mostly non-fiction). |
I have been on Nairaland for a while (not with this account though) and I'm still grateful to God for the Google search that lead me to this platform in 2020. It was during the pandemic and opera mini free 50mb browsing was all I had. I was barely feeding well even while I was at home because things were so tight and at that time I just got admitted into the University (which wasn't funny because it was a medical course). Nairaland was the first place I saw people who were truly freelancers and they were kinda making a living out of it. So, after I signed up, I started going through lots of threads where people explained and freely gave out materials for various digital skills. So, I picked interest in programming but where the hell was I supposed to get funds to begin learning it . So, I later saw a thread on writing and how you can freelance with it. I looked into it and it was not something that needed a lot (though, I needed to get a phone). Luckily for me, I secured a scholarship that paid my tuition from then till now.... which in a way relieved some of the worries I had then. So, writing and anything relating to it, was going to be the source of income that'll feed and help me sort some side bills in school. But damn! I forgot that it was not so easy to get gigs.... especially with the fact that it was a little bit saturated. That was my first frustration and I was almost giving up. Menial jobs like serving, cleaning etc was what saw me through my 100l and 200l. Things began making sense from my 300l...a Nairalander posted that he was looking for someone who'll write an article for a token. I showed interested because then 1k meant a lot to me. Although the pay was really a token, I sticked around and did the things I could do. After some months, a company looking for writers posted and luckily for me, I was hired. Some short-term gigs came after I was hired and it was mostly from Nairaland. So far, I have only gotten two small gigs from Upwork....(it's really hard in that space The gigs I have been getting from here has been my saving grace throughout these years in school.....(though, I was still doing my cleaning and serving jobs together with it). I'm currently in my final year and looking for ways I can diversify.... because my financial demands have increased and ghostwriting only is not enough. Besides, for the past four months, I had been free (AI writing tools probably doing their most) and it's kind of boring aside from the fact that I'm not making money. I recently researched about opportunities in web3 and it's kind of okay but the problem I'm having is seeing someone that'll connect me (and I'm so okay with doing outsourcing jobs for a start). So, I'm humbly here seeking advice and means to get more writing gigs (especially from web3) .... because I have scary expenses to make from now on. |
I just hope that price tag was a mistake.... Lekhandowski: |
