* You can actually determine the nutrient available in your soil, either the nutrient/element needed in large quantity or less quantity which gives you a CLEAR picture of the amount/quantity of fertilizer needed on your soil and ultimately reduces your cost of fertilizer input.

1. Supergene is N1,200 per seedling.

2. Using rain-fed, the climatic condition determines the least month you can plant. In the recent past years we have been having climate change which has affected our routine rainfall pattern and season (earlier rainfall and latter rainfall). However, for this year's climatic condition, using rain-fed, the last month you can plant is June.

3. After planting, use wire mesh atleast 18 months.

4. It is not expensive to cover each plant. Cost of covering one plant is cheaper than cost of buying one plant. Being cheap is a relative term. However, the netting is part of your production, so you should see it as that just the way you see the cost of buying your land, preparing your land, buying your plant, transporting it, buying chemicals and fertilizer and general maintenance.

If you spend money to do all those then why leaving out the netting? Or do you want to perish your invesment because you didn't net it? You're venturing into Agribusiness, therefore you should see Agriculture as a business and protect your investment. See all pre-planting, planting and post-planting operations as part of your cost of production.

The scramble for capacity building by farmers and agribusiness investors in Nigeria is fast increasing in line with ongoing National and Continental efforts to adopt modern agronomic practices towards more productive engagement of agribusiness using modern technology, a 7-day training program was conducted successfully at Obayantor, Benin from 26th February to 5th January by Natural Nutrients Limited.

The program with the theme: 'Understanding Macro-propagation of Hybrid Plantain Using Excised Buds Method' was aimed at building the capacity of the company's workers in plantain production towards multiplication of improved hybrid planting materials for self-regeneration and wealth creation for their sustainable production.

The training program was the hallmark of a project organized by Mr. Godwin Irorere, C.E.O of GOSAV Nigeria Limited to empower his staff on adoption of modern technology. The project was contracted to Mr. Adeniyi Sola, C.E.O of Natural Nutrients Limited.

One of the facilitators was Mr. Ezemenaka Johnbosco who gave training purely on practical sessions with questions and answers, giving participants hands-on experience. It was indeed a success story again for NATURAL NUTRIENTS LIMITED on one of her training programs.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Temperature Range: 65 °F - 95 °F.
Rainfall: 60 cm/year (at regular intervals throughout the growing season).
Soil Type: Well-drained and acidic soil (4.5-5.5 pH).

PROPAGATION METHOD
The propagation of pineapple plants is mostly carried out by means of crowns. Seeds are not preferred owing to their slow growth. Other parts of the plant such as 'slips' and 'suckers' are also used for propagation. While preparing the crown for propagation, its lower leaves are peeled off to expose the 'root primordia'. Crowns are then planted in a potting soil known as 'Bromeliad Potting Soil'. Then the plants are grown in pots for few days before moving them in fields.

Plantain is a staple crop grown throughout the tropics. In Africa, plantain and Banana are also an important source of carbohydrate in the diet of more than 70 million people. Plantain is also an important source of revenue for farmers who produce the crop in small-scale field plantations and Backyards. Backyard soil is very rich in organic matter and nutrients from household refuse which is dumped there. Such gar-dens are permanently in use for plantains which grow there luxuriantly, become very large and produce heavy bunches. They grow in groups or clusters as each bearing plant produces many suckers which are not pruned out. Human activity is limited to manuring, propping and harvesting.
Since the demand and thus the price for this crop are continuously increasing, many farmers want to grow more plantains in order to raise their income. However, backyards cannot be readily extended since they are enclosed by houses or fences. The only way, therefore, to expand production is to grow plantains in fields at some distance from the village. In most cases such field-grown plantains are very poorly maintained. The result is a very modest yield from the first year onwards. Different methods of cultivation should accompany the change in site to achieve and sustain high-level yields for several years.

1. Selecting The Site
The site should be easily accessible, especially if the establishment of a large field is being planned. It should be well drained but not too steeply sloped. Plantain cultivation is impossible if the land becomes flooded from time to time, or has a water table at a depth of only 50 cm or less. The soil should be rich in organic matter (black soil). Hence fields in a long natural fallow, under an improved established fallow or with a lot of mulch are recommended.
