The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has warned against ethnic stereotyping and media framing of crime amid killings and kidnappings ravaging the country. In a statement on Monday, titled ‘Media Framing of Crime Along Ethnic Lines: Divisive’, Mr Obi said, “As an Igbo man, I have endured stereotypes, judgement, and labelling solely based on my ethnic origins. This is not an isolated Igbo experience. Most Nigerians have, at some point, been reduced to their ethnicity rather than recognised for their true character.” The politician, who expressed concern over unfair judgement of the Fulani in light of killings and abductions in the country, said such misrepresentation extends beyond Nigeria. He added, “I understand the pain of the ordinary Fulani man today, often unfairly judged by the actions of criminals he does not support, has never met, and who are not representative of his people. “Even in America, such unjust labelling fuelled the civil rights movement and prompted Martin Luther King Jr to declare that people should be judged by the content of their character, not the colour of their skin.” Mr Obi insisted that every Nigerian ethnic group was known for its unique traditions, occupations, skills and strengths, noting that crime should not be interpreted along ethnic lines. Crime, however, had no ethnicity. A thief is a thief. A terrorist is a terrorist. A kidnapper is a kidnapper. They are bad actors, not representatives of any people. They must be identified, arrested, and punished according to the law,” the politician explained. The NDC chieftain urged Nigerians against the dangerous practice of blaming entire ethnic groups for the actions of a few criminals, adding that such a practice breeds hatred and damages our national unity. Let us proudly celebrate our diverse cultures, talents, and contributions, rather than falling prey to stereotypes and prejudices that politicians and divisive interests exploit for their gain. A new Nigeria must emerge one where no citizen is condemned because of tribe, religion, or birthplace. We can cherish our cultural roots while standing united by justice, mutual respect, and hope for a better future. We are capable of this,” Mr Obi advised. https://gazettengr.com/igbos-fulanis-treated-as-evil-stereotypes-in-nigeria-media-fuelling-bias-peter-obi/

Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri said 2027 presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi displayed political foresight by resigning from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Omokri said this in a Facebook post on Sunday, a day after Obi clinched the NDC ticket. Peter Obi announced his decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on May 3, citing worsening internal crises and an increasingly toxic political climate within the party as the reasons for his departure. The former Anambra governor subsequently joined the NDC, eventually emerging its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 polls. Omokri, a known critic of Obi, said the NDC candidate was right to quit the ADC, noting that he could not have beaten former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to the party’s presidential ticket. He further said Obi was right to have quit given the internal crises that could derail his presidential bid on the ADC platform. The diplomat said, “People don’t seem to realise that Peter Obi may not have left the African Democratic Congress because he was afraid of losing its primaries. Yes, he is eager to be President. But he is not unintelligent. There was no way he could have defeated Waziri Atiku Abubakar, given the realities in the David Mark faction of the party to which they were both members. He must have known from the get-go that he would lose the Presidential primaries. In fact, many informed people believe that he was banking on being the running mate to the eventual winner of the Presidential primaries. What may have made him leave the party was likely the factionalism within the party into three groups: the David Mark faction, the Nafiu Bala bloc, and the Dumebi Kachikwu camp. The fact of the matter is that as of today, Sunday, May 31, 2026, nobody is sure which faction of the ADC will eventually prevail in court. And Peter Obi, to his credit, knows that it is a very big risk for anyone to be the Presidential, gubernatorial, National Assembly, or State Assembly candidate of any faction of the African Democratic Congress when the court has not yet adjudicated the case brought by the Nafiu Bala clique against the other offshoots. If the court rules in favour of the Nafiu Bala faction, would that not automatically invalidate ALL primaries conducted by the David Mark and Dumebi Kachikwu factions? You have to give it to Mr. Obi. He had some political foresight, anticipating the likely consequences of emerging as a candidate for a factionalised party. Which, I believe, is why he jumped ship and traded uncertainty for certainty. https://thesun.ng/leaving-adc-shows-peter-obis-political-foresight-omokri/

The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has threatened a protest over the outcome of the recently concluded primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, alleging that the exercise was manipulated in favour of the party’s Justice Forum bloc. Speaking during a meeting with market leaders and stakeholders at her office in Alausa, Ikeja, Tinubu-Ojo accused party leaders of altering results in some constituencies despite what she described as clear victories by certain candidates. The Lagos APC had earlier released the list of successful candidates for House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tinubu-Ojo specifically challenged the reported outcomes in Mushin Federal Constituency 2, Agege Constituency 2 and Ojokoro constituency. According to her, candidates such as Seye Oladejo, Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo and Olotu Ojo legitimately won the primaries and should not be denied their mandates. We are ready to protest because we know they won this election. Their mandate should not be given to somebody else,” she stated. She also criticised the growing factional rivalry between the Justice Forum and Mandate Group within the Lagos APC, warning that the divisions could weaken party unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Tinubu-Ojo alleged that politicians were defecting internally to the Justice Forum because of the perceived governorship ambition of Obafemi Hamzat, whom she described as being associated with the bloc. We have to cry out now. Let APC cancel Justice and Mandate Forums. We are one family,” she said. The APC stalwart argued that political appointments and opportunities in Lagos should not be controlled by factional interests, insisting that all members deserved equal treatment regardless of alignment. She further warned that unresolved grievances from the primaries could destabilise the party if not urgently addressed by both state and national leadership. Tinubu-Ojo also reaffirmed the support of market women and traders for Hamzat’s political ambition while calling for greater inclusion of traders in governance and political decision-making in Lagos State. https://verynigerian.com/tinubus-daughter-threatens-protest-over-lagos-apc-primary-elections/

Alex Otti on Wednesday inaugurated the newly completed Umuahia Central Bus Terminal, a multimodal transport facility located in the Abia State capital. The governor also renamed the terminal after Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, in recognition of her role as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, returning officer during the 2023 governorship election. According to Otti, the decision was based on her “courage, integrity and commitment to truth” throughout the election process that eventually brought his administration into office. The governor said the new transport terminal is expected to improve urban mobility, enhance commercial activities and modernise the state’s transportation system. This terminal has been named after Professor Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the courageous INEC returning officer who demonstrated unflinching integrity in the discharge of her duties during a high-stakes election assignment here in Abia,” Otti said. He added that the honour was not limited to her alone but symbolised all individuals who resisted electoral manipulation. In 2023, through her courageous disposition of standing firmly by the truth… she reminded us that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary results by simply saying no,” the governor said. Otti noted that the recognition also extended to electoral officials, security agencies and citizens who upheld the integrity of the process. So she’s just a representative of all of you—INEC staff who never bent, party officials who didn’t give in, security agencies… people who said no to intimidation,” he added. The governor, in his speech titled “Raising The Bar”, said the project reflects his administration’s broader urban transport reforms. He said the state had moved beyond basic infrastructure delivery to building an integrated transport system. The days of playing small is over. We shall no longer confine ourselves to the margins,” Otti said. He explained that the terminal was designed to accommodate over 340 buses and would improve accessibility, safety and efficiency in urban transport operations. Otti also disclosed that the transport system would be supported by electric bus services, with 20 already in operation, while additional units are expected in phases. Services will keep improving as more buses are delivered… and you can tell with accuracy when a particular bus will arrive and depart,” he said. He urged residents to protect the facility and support government efforts by maintaining order and paying taxes. The governor warned against vandalism, waste disposal violations and other practices that could undermine the project, stressing that offenders would face sanctions. Earlier, Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukegbu, described the terminal as a key milestone in the state’s transport reform agenda, saying it would reduce congestion and improve safety while boosting economic activity. Prof. Nnenna Oti, in her remarks, said she only acted according to her conscience during the 2023 election. I simply did what I’ve done all my life—to do the right thing… the mandate of the people must stand,” she said. The event also featured a minute of silence in honour of the late former Commissioner for Transport, Sonny Onwuma. https://verynigerian.com/gov-otti-renames-umuahia-bus-terminal-after-futo-vc/

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again assured Nigerians that the economic reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to yield positive outcomes, insisting that the “sacrifices” being made by citizens are necessary for national recovery. In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, the President said the country is currently on a “journey of reconstruction and renewal,” noting that ongoing policy reforms, though difficult, are designed to secure long-term prosperity. He argued that the past three years of economic adjustments have helped stabilise key indicators and improved Nigeria’s attractiveness to investors. Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy, making our country a preferred investment destination that will drive job creation and economic growth. The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” Tinubu said. The President linked his message to the spiritual significance of Eid-el-Kabir, drawing lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, and urging Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and selflessness. Tinubu also acknowledged ongoing security challenges, including continued attacks by terrorists and bandits in parts of the country, while insisting that government efforts were intensifying to restore peace and stability. He reassured citizens that his administration remains committed to defeating insecurity and expanding opportunity across the country, even as isolated incidents persist. “I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil,” he said. The President urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation, support the less privileged, and strengthen national unity across ethnic and religious lines. He further restated his administration’s commitment to investing in critical sectors such as security, agriculture, infrastructure, and human capital development, describing them as central to Nigeria’s long-term transformation. Tinubu also encouraged citizens to remain hopeful, even in the face of hardship, while calling for patience as reforms continue to take effect. https://verynigerian.com/the-walk-through-the-dark-tunnel-is-over-the-light-is-here-tinubu-tell-nigerians/

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has announced Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The declaration was made on Tuesday during the collation of presidential primary results held at the Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by the Chairman of the Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. According to the committee, the selection process followed extensive consultations and voice votes conducted among party stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Officials said Senator Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after indicating interest in the race and purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms earlier in the month. Ortom explained that the committee engaged party members nationwide before arriving at the consensus decision, after which Onor was formally presented as the faction’s presidential candidate. The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, who were present at the party secretariat in Abuja. Following his emergence, Senator Onor received a certificate of return and the party flag, officially confirming his status as the faction’s presidential standard bearer for the 2027 elections. The development adds a new layer to the ongoing internal realignments within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. https://verynigerian.com/breaking-wike-pdp-faction-declares-sen-sandy-onor-consensus-presidential-candidate-for-2027-poll/

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has named him as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Electoral Committee Chairman and Benue State party chairman, Elias Adikwu, announced Kachikwu’s adoption, a decision ratified by delegates at the ADC National Convention held on Sunday in Abuja. The newly elected National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, presented Kachikwu with the party’s flag, formally sealing his mandate to lead the party into the forthcoming elections. The convention also produced a new National Working Committee (NWC), alongside Kachikwu’s emergence as flagbearer. The new NWC members include Board of Trustees Chairman Kingsley Oggah (NC), Deputy National Chairman Johnny Tovie Derek (SS), National Secretary Kennedy O. Odion, National Treasurer Dr. Joe Aroh (SS), National Financial Secretary Chief Amirigoye (SW), and National Publicity Secretary whose name was listed as pending from the SW zone. Others are National Legal Adviser Dr. Chris Ugwu (SE), National Organising Secretary Elias Adikwu (NC), and National Chief Whip Patrick Ambut (NW). Recall that a separate Senator David Mark-led ADC convention had earlier held in Abuja on April 14, 2026, amid internal disputes, litigation and venue controversies, where over 1,000 delegates reportedly voted to amend the party’s constitution and confirm Mark as substantive National Chairman. That faction also expelled Dumebi Kachikwu, Rep. Leke Abejide and other members over alleged anti-party activities, deepening the leadership crisis within the party. The Mark-led convention had drawn prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of broader coalition efforts aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027. https://verynigerian.com/breaking-adc-faction-dissolves-mark-led-nwc-names-dumebi-kachikwu-as-sole-2027-presidential-candidate/

Tompolo’s Army Strikes Back: Ex-Militant Leader’s Group Vows 15 Million Votes for Tinubu, Dismisses Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance as “Unholy” A powerful political support group led by former militant leader High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, promising to deliver over 15 million “organic votes” while dismissing the opposition alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as an “unholy alliance” with nothing to offer Nigerians. Addressing journalists at a massive rally outside the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement’s National Coordinator, Sunday Adekanbi Asuku, declared that the group—founded by Tompolo to bridge government-people gaps through grassroots mobilization—would ensure Tinubu’s popularity surpasses his 2023 record. Asuku argued that the opposition is “desperate for power” and lacks credibility, pointing out that neither Obi nor Kwankwaso left remarkable legacies as governors. The group urged Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu, insisting that “the decadence of many decades cannot be fixed in four years” and that economic reforms and security gains need a second term to consolidate. Acknowledging the recent spate of killings and hardship, Asuku described insecurity as an inherited problem that the administration is tackling head-on. With the APC presidential primary coinciding with their rally, the group’s pledge—backed by Tompolo’s formidable organizational structure across the Niger Delta and beyond—poses a significant challenge to the opposition’s coalition hopes. Whether the alliance of “Obedients” and “Kwankwasiyya” can counter this war chest of grassroots loyalty remains the great electoral question of 2027.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cleared all three of its presidential aspirants to participate in the party’s direct primary election scheduled for Monday, May 25, ahead of the 2027 general election. The cleared aspirants are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Hayatu-Deen Mohammed. The party also cleared 80 governorship aspirants, 109 senatorial aspirants, and 513 House of Representatives aspirants for its forthcoming primaries. According to party sources, efforts to achieve a consensus presidential candidate were unsuccessful, as none of the three aspirants agreed to step down for another. A source within the Senator Liyel Imoke-led Presidential Screening Committee disclosed that the committee subsequently recommended the activation of all arrangements for a direct primary election across the federation. The presidential nomination election will take place in all the wards, and the presidential aspirants have been so informed,” the source said. The ADC’s direct presidential primary is expected to be conducted in all 8,809 wards nationwide. The Presidential Screening Committee is chaired by Imoke, with Hon. CID Maduabum serving as secretary. Other members include Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Hon. Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Prof. David Salifu, and Col. Abubakar Ali Ciroma (rtd.). Speaking after his screening, Amaechi reaffirmed his determination to contest for the presidency, dismissing suggestions that he could settle for a vice-presidential slot. “I don’t want to be vice president. I made myself clear,” he said. He also stated that, if elected president, he would seek to abolish the federal character principle, arguing that all Nigerians should enjoy equal citizenship rights irrespective of ethnic or regional background. While Hayatu-Deen Mohammed did not indicate any intention to withdraw from the race, he reportedly said he would abide by the final decision of the party. The outcome of Monday’s primary is expected to determine who will carry the ADC flag into what is shaping up to be a highly competitive 2027 presidential election. https://verynigerian.com/atiku-amaechi-hayatu-deen-battle-for-adc-presidential-ticket-as-primary-holds-monday/

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will successfully tackle Nigeria’s insecurity challenges within the next four years if given another mandate in 2027. Umahi made the statement on Saturday during the APC presidential primary election held at Umunaga Ward in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He said the turnout of 5,009 party members at the ward to vote for Tinubu reflected strong confidence in the President’s leadership and policies. According to him, the people of Ebonyi State remain firmly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the state is now a stronghold of the ruling party. “Ebonyi State is totally APC. We are only APC,” Umahi declared, adding that no other political party currently holds influence in Ohaozara Local Government Area. The minister also attributed the growing support for Tinubu in the South-East to increased federal appointments and infrastructure development across the region. He further praised the administration’s economic reforms, acknowledging initial hardship but insisting they had helped stabilise the economy. “I laugh when people talk about the hardship caused by the reforms. Nobody has been able to say where Nigeria would have been without them,” he said. Umahi added that the government is now focused on translating macroeconomic stability into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians. He also highlighted ongoing road and bridge projects nationwide, describing them as evidence of renewed federal attention to infrastructure development across all regions. https://verynigerian.com/tinubu-is-the-biafra-igbos-need-give-him-another-four-years-he-will-solve-security-problems-umahi/

Governor Siminalayi Fubara was notably absent during the APC presidential primaries held in his ward, sparking fresh political discussions within Rivers State’s political landscape. Party stakeholders and residents observed that mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid appeared significantly low in the area, raising questions about the governor’s current political direction and level of involvement in the party’s activities. The development comes amid ongoing political realignments and tensions within the Rivers APC, especially following Governor Fubara’s recent withdrawal from the party’s gubernatorial primaries. While no official statement has been issued by the governor or his camp regarding his absence, political observers believe the situation may further deepen speculations surrounding internal party dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

For decades, Nigeria has suffered not from the absence of resources but from the abundance of selfish leadership. Our politics has become a marketplace where power is traded without conscience, where public office is treated like private inheritance, and where national wealth disappears into the pockets of a privileged few while the masses are left to survive on crumbs. Today, many politicians parade themselves as patriots, yet the nation continues to sink under the heavy weight of corruption, insecurity, hunger, and hopelessness. Some have been tainted by corruption allegations, some by criminal associations, while others have presided over systems that empowered violence and division instead of unity and progress. The tragedy of Nigeria is not merely bad governance; it is the normalization of it. Yet, in the middle of this political darkness, Mr. Peter Obi has emerged as a different conversation entirely. No man is perfect. Peter Obi is not claiming sainthood, and nobody is asking Nigerians to worship him. But even his fiercest critics struggle to brand him a thief. In a political environment overflowing with scandal and reckless extravagance, that alone has become a rare credential. His greatest strength is not noise, propaganda, or intimidation. It is the public perception of prudence, accountability, and discipline. Nigeria must move away from the cruel cycle where leaders borrow billions in the name of development, only for the money to disappear into private pockets. After looting the treasury, they return during elections with a few bags of rice, hoping hunger will erase memory and poverty will silence conscience. But rice is not governance. Handouts are not development. Temporary stomach infrastructure can never replace a functional economy, quality education, stable electricity, security, and jobs for the youth. The Nigerian people are becoming wiser. The era of political manipulation is gradually giving way to the era of political consciousness. Nigerians are beginning to understand that the future of a nation can not be exchanged for a cup of rice and empty RENEWED HOPE slogans. You can accuse Peter Obi anything you like, but you can never accuse him of being a thief. By 2027, the message must be clear: Nigeria must work. Nigeria must rise. Nigeria must be OK, And for many Nigerians today, “OK” is no longer just a slogan. It is a cry for competent leadership, responsible governance, and a country that finally puts its people first.

NDC got the wind of Atiku Abubakar concluding plans of defecting from the ADC to NDC on Wednesday. Because apart from Court case against the ADC factional leader, Nafiu Bala, ADC has another 13 pending legal cases.... The leadership of NDC, wasted no time, swung into action by swiftly SEALING and ZONING their presidential ticket to the South since they cannot stop anyone constitutionally to defect to NDC. As it is now, even if Atiku still defects to NDC he can only be Peter Obi's running mate, Progressives are working together for NDC.

ATIKU’S MISTAKE I Expect you to study the trend: that was what brought APC to power. Buhari was not the best but everything then was speaking in his favour and he was commanding very large crowd. This current president was wise in that aspect, Mr. Tinubu knew that it was the time for a Notthern president and so the presented their candidate and capitalized on few Jonathan errors and hoodwinked the electorate into voting for their party. They won. If you go by your personal calculation like you have done even after many top politituans has advised and feel you can win : l am sorry you wont win. Reason: the same way the wave of electorates have shifted from APC to Mr. Peter Obi; that was an opportunity for you but you felt you cannot make the sacrifice Bola Tinubu made and some few individuals are tapping you on the back that age is against you. Now you have divided the ADC , the same mistake you did In PDP and you think Nigerians are daft . Incase you dont know : It’the youths who are controlling where the pendulum swings to: they have openly spoken both in sings, words and action but you chose not to listento them. I respect but your records out there is still like a fresh wound waiting to be healed. 85% of Nigerian youth won’t vote for you: your best chance would have be to use Peter Obi as bridge to the presidency. Obi’s record is giving him an edge and for now he is the spice in the polical stew. Four years only and it will return to the North: can’t you see anywhere Mr. Peter Obi leaves become dead… APGA, PDP, LABOUR and now ADC. This is his time. Your personal calculation on how North has spent 10 years and south 18 years in governance does not hold water because in the aggregate : the North has ruled for more years than the South. It means that if you were from the South East you won’t take it. Sir, if we go by your arithmetic, Fulani where you come from has been ruling on behalf of the North: why not allow an Hausa man to be a president. It’s not late for you to change your mind: you can still ask your ADC to support NDC in the presidential election. That will write your name in the good book of Nigerians. It’s not late to correct your mistake: be wise like Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he was in the opposition party

It would be sincerely unfair for the NDC not to welcome Atiku Abubakar this Wednesday. This is a golden opportunity, and if handled well, the coalition could deliver a heavy blow to the APC in 2027. Abi boo ní? When Atiku Abubakar moved to the ADC, he reached out to Obi and Kwankwaso. Now that Obi and Kwankwaso are in the NDC, they should also extend the same hand of unity—bringing along Atiku, Aregbesola, and David Mark. Or did they reach out and they refused to listen? My people, what do you think? Omo tí ó gbón, àtí ìta ni wọ́n ti ń kọ́ wá
