4. ...***... Kolade Adeniran was not happy with his elder sister. He felt she was whimsical He knew why she had sold her car. She was a hopeless romantic and now that she had sold it, she would use one of daddy's cars, the exact one he (Kolade) loved to drive. His twin brother, Kayode, on the other hand, felt she was old enough to do whatever she wanted to do. He could even loan her his car if she wanted it. He was closer to Adetutu than Kolade. He had the same mushy insides like his mum and his elder sister. Kolade scrolled through his bbm contacts and searched his girlfriend's name. He realised she had sent a message which he hadn't replied. He was too busy talking to Jennifer. Kolade: Baby, wat's up? Wunmi: wat?? Kolade: I'm sorry, I Jst sw ur msg. Wunmi: Hmmn. It shwd 'read' here 2hrs ago. Kip lying. Kolade: I sed I jst red it & m sori. Wunmi: wateva. Kolade: Cum 2 my house. I mis u. Wunmi: cum?? Really? Kolade: u no I meant come. Jst com jor. Ur shakara is 2much. Wunmi: Beg me! dnt order me. Kolade: Oya pls baby. My angel, come to my house. Wunmi: good is ur mam home?Kolade: dsn't mata. U'd stay in my room. Jst d 2 of us. Wunmi: *rme* I knw. Gimme 10mins. Kolade: make it 5. Bye..They lived in the same estate and it was just a five minute walk from Wunmi's house to Kolade's. Kolade, Kayode and Wunmi all went to the same Private University and graduated the same year. They were all waiting for their NYSC call up numbers so they could serve that year, there was really nothing all three were doing except seeing each other, going to parties together and doing other Juvenile things. Kolade strolled towards the gate to open for his 'babe'. He kissed her and grabbed her ass then remembered he was in front of his house. He ushered her quickly into the house then took her upstairs to his bedroom after Wunmi had hurriedly greeted his mum. His mother pretended not to notice who just came in. She kept quiet and wished her husband was home this moment. There was nobody to talk to. Kayode had gone out with some friends and Adetutu wouldn't be home till Friday. And here Kolade was with his girlfriend. She wished he realised he had more constructive things to do. "Twenty-one year olds." She said, shaking her head. ...***... It was about 20minutes later before Tutu decided she cook meals for Jesse and stock them in the refrigerator. He would have meals throughout the week. This was her first time of doing this and she hoped he wouldn't get used to the idea. She wouldn't do it again, until after marriage. She promised herself. He was glad when she asked for his help in the kitchen. "I'm lucky to have you" he said, half talking to himself. "You better be". She smiled. "Now, let's talk about why Kosi and I haven't been on talking terms" "Ok." Jesse was very happy but didn't want to show it, so he just crossed his arms across his chest and leaned against the kitchen counter. "In 2011, after my break up with Tunji, In April, I went to Kosi's apartment to cry my eyes out. I was so heart-broken that immediately she opened the door for me, I had already spilled my guts to her about Tunji. I didn't realise Bankole was in, until Kosi stopped me from talking and took me to the guest room. She was clad in almost nothing, I realised I had spoilt one very good night for Bankole who was clad in only a pair of boxer shorts, and I was really sorry. In the guest room, Kosi asked me not to talk again. She said I needed to have a hot bath and some sleep, which she let me have, after a change of clothes and a new blanket, Kosi left the room. The next morning. She came to the guest room and we talked about how Tunji had cheated on me with other women. He was one promiscuous fellow who would give me excuses for not picking my calls on time or at all or for missing appointments with me. At first, I let him go on being promiscuous cos I wouldn't give him sex, then I got fed up by him and started complaining and nagging. I couldn't take more of the disrespect from him and the less love, if I can still call it love. He told me he couldn't bare to see me get hurt anymore so he had to break up with me. I loved him so much that I didn't want to lose him just yet. I almost begged him to stay, but Thank God I didn't beg. He would have made me do things I didn't want to. Then he had said the most hurtful words: "If you want to die a virgin, I can't remain with you. I'm fed up" "Why are we talking about Tunji?" Jesse interrupted. "I thought you wanted to tell me why you and Kosi stopped, you know...talking?" "I have to say that part. It's where the story leads....and please, stop interrupting. Back to the matter. Kosi immediately blamed me for the break up. She said there was no big deal in losing one's virginity. If I had given it up to him, Tunji and I would still be in a relationship or be married by now. She told me how sex makes a relationship stronger and binds the partners together. I just couldn't agree with her. She was so wrong. It didn't take long for me to prove how wrong she was. I went to a spa some days later and saw Bankole there with a lady. I was sure she wasn't his sister cos Kosi had told me Bankole had two older brothers and no sister. He and the lady were all over each other in public. When he got to know I had seen him, he composed himself and had the courage to walk up to me. "She's just a friend" He had said. I didn't even ask for any explanations, he just wanted to justify himself. He knew I was going to tell Kosi. He went ahead and said the stupidest thing. "I realise you're too smart for that lie". Bankole had continued. "Dude!! Any 5yr old could tell." "Well well, I know how pretty you are, you are just too tall and skinny for my liking. Almost taller than me. You are cool, but not my type." "I wouldn't dream of being your--" "Ssssh..." he interrupted. "I wonder why you are wasting that natural endowment. You need a man's touch." He had said, openly staring at her boobs and doing the man-on-the-make-game. "I'd guess right, you're a 38'C. Hmmmn.....that tiny waist and broad hips, but no ass. I swear,Tunji was crazy to let you go." She had raised her hand to slap him, he caught it and pushed it away. "Let me make you a proposal. Let's hook up. I know you secretly like me. Kosi won't know about it." "Dog! That's what you are. For you to think I'd give myself easily to you makes me wonder why Kosi stooped to your level. You are just beneath her." He had laughed at that. "Don't you know why Kosi's with me? I give her all she wants and I'm with her because she gives me what I want too. She's damn good in bed. She knows how I like it. When I wan-" "Then why are you cheating on her?" Tutu had cut in perplexed. "Iono....maybe its cos I want varieties. You can go ahead and tell her. She won't believe you. She loves me too much. Ciao! Virgin!" He had said and walked away. Immediately I left, I called Kosi and told her we had to talk. Bankole beat me at calling her first. I told her what I saw except the part where Bankole suggest we hook up. I didn't know what else he had said to her. She hushed me, telling me I wanted to break up her relationship cos I just had a bad break up. She went on to say I was a bad friend and wouldn't want to see her succeed because I hadn't succeeded. I was just too stunned to be angry. She had known me for 5yrs and Bankole for 2, but she chose to trust him over me. She told me not to talk to her or call her again. And that's it. The end of my story" Tutu heaved a sigh. "How did you get back together?" Jesse asked. " Last year, In February, she broke up with him when she found out everything I said about him was true." "So, how come they are getting married now?" Jesse was getting confused. "Kosi is obsessed with him. One week after they broke up, they got back together. She said she still loved him and nothing he did would make her leave again. He begged her to take him back, he couldn't live without her plus he had said he's a changed man. I guess they deserve each other. Partners in crime. She can get any man she wants with her body. Bankole knew that he would be at a greater loss. He loves her in his own weird way too. Our comeback, Kosi and I, was short lived. We didn't talk to each other again until about 3weeks ago" "Funny girl. Kosi. She acts like a kid." "She's the only child and she's spoilt. What do you expect?" "Me, I'm just lucky I have you and extra lucky that dog didn't touch." "No. Jesse, I know how much you dislike him, but please respect the fact I once really 'liked' him. He's not a dog. He's a man. He didn't ever hit me or force me to do anything." Jesse didn't know what to say, he walked out of the kitchen. He also didn't like talking about her Ex. He wished she had never met Tunji to get hurt or that he had been the first to be her boyfriend so she would never have too choose Tunji who had hurt her. |

3. ...***... "Honey, how did your day go?" Jesse held his phone between his left ear and shoulder as he walked slowly around his apartment. "You called just when I needed to hear your voice. It went well.. We caught up on old times, you know? I miss her so much.. It's been like... 7months. I so miss her, plus its a good thing she loves me as well and didn't forget I have to be her chief-bride's maid ... She asked me to be her chief bridesmaid. She misses me as much as I miss her, and she's even more beautiful than the last time we saw, and there were lots of things we talked about,....me and my bestie now... " she giggled. "...ooh you are squealing, like a mouse." Jesse was about to say: "You still haven't told me why you guys haven't talked in a while", but he thought better of it. He knew it would make Tutu sad and she would withdraw and not talk to him for as long as she wanted. Instead he said "..mouse woman" She giggled again. "Ok, are you ready for our personal thing?" "No.. I'm cooking...for my fam." "Cooking? What can you cook?" He teased. "If you ask me that again, I will post-pone my coming to your house." Tutu feigned annoyance. "Ok. I'm sorry. I forgot you are the best cook in town." he teased again. "Yes. You know."she smiled. "I love you, whether you can cook or not." Tutu paused. She always paused whenever he said those three words to her. He had said it to her many times before they started dating. She just didn't get used to it, and he wouldn't stop saying it. "I just got home now and am hungry. Tired of rice." he continued. She heaved a sigh of relief. "What else do you have at home?" "Everything." he replied. "Make some toast or fry plantain." "Cool... I didn't even think of bread." ". I'll call you later, I need to stir the soup. Plus my dad just called me." "O..K. I love you. I'll miss you." he laughed. "Bye" "Won't you even say you love me too?" Jesse queried. "Bye. The soup will burn." "Ok." "I love you." Tutu said 'after ending the call'. "Who was it?" Tutu turned around to notice her mom was already in the kitchen and had probably listened to half the conversation. "Jide." she blushed. "Same Jide?" "Yes" "hmmmn. So you guys are in a relationship now? Or still dating?" "He's my boyfriend now." "When did this happen?" "Mummy you are asking too many questions. I'm tired." Tutu replied. "I like that boy. He's responsible. Will you marry him??"her mother smiled. "Here you go again. You always jump the gun." "I didn't jump the gun?" she defended. "the first time I saw you guys together, you said 'he's just-a-friend'. Her mother mimicked. "Now he's more than a friend. Boyfriend. In a matter of months, it will be 'Husband' and I am very sure about that." "There's no way I can change your mind whenever you decide to talk about how my life goes." "My baby, that's why I am your mother." she walked over to hug Tutu, then stepped back. "I know what's good for you. By the way, you are 24. 25 in June. You and Kosiso. Bestfriends. Same birthday month and year. She's getting married in July." "Mummy, please let's stop talking about that." Tutu begged. "Adetutu, ma binu. I didn't mean to 'compare'. You know I love you and I want the best for you...don't say a word."she added when she saw Tutu's mouth open to protest. "I am not rushing you, only reminding you. Ok??" "OK" "Your daddy is hungry. I'll miss you when you go. Your brothers are of no help to me in the kitchen." "You better get a stand-in cook whenever Mrs. Kamson fails to show up. Kolade will never help you even if Kayode will. Plus, I will miss you when I leave this house too." Tutu smiled mischievously. "You see?" her mother smiled back. "You'll marry that boy." Tutu just rolled her eyes. ...***... About two weeks later... "Look ..... See that guy.... over there... Oh my... Isn't he just cute? His body is sooo.... Imagine those arms around my waist! I want to lie under that." Tutu raised her head from her sketches to see who Kosi was describing . It was Jesse. She wasn't going to disclose that to her yet. She just smiled and said.."Yea, he's kinda cute. I could charm him. I have a charm I use on attractive men which is so strong. I would use it on him, and he's going to come over here and kiss me." "Haha. Funny.." she gave a sarcastic laugh, then turned to look at Tutu. "Let's take a bet.10k" "You're on." Tutu beamed. Jesse who was all the while talking to a security guard moved away and headed into the restaurant. He searched the faces around, then found Tutu's and smiled. "Cheat! You know him already. Hold on a sec, he can't be Jesus or Jesse?" Kosi asked. Jesse strolled towards their table, kissed Tutu on the lips and said "Hi" to Kosi who was shocked all the while. He remembered Kosi's face from almost 2yrs ago "Jesse, meet Kosi. Kosi, Jesse." "No, you can't be. You are supposed to be ugly & dumb." Kosi said. "It's good to finally meet you" Jesse said. "It's so good here too. Tutu never told me how Handsome you are. Plus, you have a body to die for." Kosi started to flirt. Tutu nudged her. "Thanks for the 'compliment'. You are so kind. Tutu didn't even tell me I was 'fine', you know?" Kosi laughed at this. She liked him already. Tutu was sure. Kosi never laughed at jokes made by anyone she didn't like. "Let's eat." Tutu whose stomach was all the while growling, announced. Jesse signaled the waiter who came over and took their orders. After eating, Kosi's bitch came back to her. "This is quite an expensive restaurant. Can you afford to pay?" she asked turning to Jesse. Tutu hit her hard with her elbow. "Ouch! What did u do that for??" Kosi frowned. "I think I can. Let me just see if I have enough here." Jesse joked. His joke was lost on them. "Why are you always like this, Kosi? You do you always bring trouble between us." Tutu was infuriated. Jesse paid. Tutu picked up her sketches, purse and phones. "Jesse, it’s high time we left." Jesse, surprised, said a fast 'bye' to Kosi and followed Tutu. ...***... He sure knew how to mask his emotions. He didn't show any signs of anger directed towards Kosi. He knew why Tutu was angry, but he just thought it was funny. "Why are you so angry with me??" he asked. "You know it’s not you I'm mad at, so stop acting like you are unaware!" she hissed slamming 'another' lid on its pot. Jesse cringed at the sound. He left her in the kitchen and jumped unto the sofa in his sitting room. Earlier, after leaving the restaurant, he had suggested they go to his house. He didn't want to leave her mad and he had followed her every where in his 2-bedroom apartment when she'd been walking angrily around the house and slamming doors, until she got to the kitchen where 'harmful utensils' were. He waited for her to calm down. He checked the time.3:45pm. He sighed. This Saturday was free for him like most of his other Saturdays. Tutu peeped from the kitchen and instantly felt bad about transferring the hostility to her boyfriend. "Jesse?" she called softly. "I am sorry..."she walked towards the sofa. Jesse turned towards her and smiled. He was glad she wasn't angry anymore he pulled her unto his laps and kissed her cheeks. She was about to say something when he hushed her.. "No. Nooo. Not a word from you, Mrs Akinyele". She smiled at the way he used his surname on her. "It's still Adeniran. You have to-" He silenced her with more kisses on her lips. The kiss deepened until Tutu's ringtone interrupted. She moved away to answer her call. She knew Kosi was calling to apologise. "What do you want?" Tutu snapped. "You left your pen." "So that's why you called?? Ok thank you. I'll buy another. Bye!" "Hold on Tutu. I'm sorry. I didn't insinuate he couldn't afford the meal. I just wanted to know if he had the money to pay." "What's the difference between what-you-didn't-insinuate and what-you-meant?? Stop acting dumb, Kosi. You really were over your head today." "Am sorry nooow, I won't do it again. I promise." "There won't even be a next time.Bye.." "Why?? Say you have forgiven me." "I'm not ready to do that now. I'm still pissed. Bye!" "Ok, say Hi to Jesse fo--" Tutu ended the call before Kosi could finish what she had to say. One brow raised, Jesse stared at her searchingly. "You want to continue getting mad at her?" He asked. "You're making it look like I am the bad person here." "Aren't you? She just called to say she was sorry and you cut her off. Stop acting mean, Tutu. She's your bestfriend." "See, she's taking me for granted. She does it all the time. She deserves it."Tutu wanted to justify herself. "Cool. Be mean then." "Don't you see my point?" He turned on the TV and pretended she didn't say anything. He started singing out loud to insinuate he wasn't listening to Tutu anymore. She got the message. 2 mins later... She walked over to Jesse and put her arms around his neck to shower his head with kisses. "I sent her an I-have-forgiven-you message, plus I told her not to call, cos I'd be busy with you. Is that ok with you?" He smiled. "Honey, there are other things that'd be okay with me. You want to know one of them?" "Sure. Tell me." she knew where the conversation was leading. Words wouldn't be needed anymore. "Or just carry me." she giggled. "Aha, that mouse sound again" She laughed even harder as he tickled her. |

So back to the topic, "I'm very happy for you. Finally, you found someone else. So, what brand of car does he drive?" Kosi asked, beaming with joy. Tutu stared blankly. "Does he have a car?" Kosi asked again. "No" Tutu replied. "Is he planning to buy one?" "No. Not yet." "Why not? What kind of job does he have that he can't afford an ordinary car? Ehhn??" "He just got a job. Don't be too hard on him". Tutu wanted to slap herself for saying that. "He just got a job?? Tutu!!. What are you doing with a kid. How is he going to take care of you??........... From Tunji!, 'almighty Tunji' to......'someone who just got a job'?? "What do u expect me to say when people ask to see my bestie or chief-bride's maid?? You want me to show them You, and then a lowlife for a boyfriend??" "Don't you dare say that again!" Tutu hissed. "Ok. . . I'm sorry...but ...but how can he not have a car or how can he just be getting a job? How now?? I don't like him already. If you want me to meet him, I won't be nice. I promise you that." Kosi hissed. "You don't like him cos he doesn't have a car?? You've gone bananas." Tutu laughed. "Seriously, Tutu, are you going to drive him to the wedding or you both are coming by taxi?" Tutu settled lower in her chair, almost going under the table of the restaurant. Then whispered "I sold my car." Kosi stared at her as if she had grown an extra head. "You are kidding. It' s not funny anymore" Tutu was quiet. They were both quiet for about 3 minutes more until Kosi held Tutu's hands. "Adetutu, I'm very sorry for not keeping in touch with you for over a year. I don't know what has been going on in your life. I don't know the circumstances that made you sell it. I'm sorry Tutu. Pleeeease forgive me. I am still your bestfriend and I love you." "Trust me, there's no problem. I just wanted to sell it." Tutu replied. "Stop being secretive. Tell me. There has to be a reason." "I wanted to sell it. No reason. Seriously." "You sold your car because he doesn't have one, right??..... I know you, Tutu. You would do that, even for me. From all the seven years of our friendship, you think I wouldn't know how to read you?? Huh??" Tutu smiled. She knew Kosi was right and she was glad she didn't have to say it out. "You nice slim thing. You 're such an angel. I just hope this... What's his name again?" "Jesse" "I just hope he won't take advantage of your niceties, whatever his name is. Does he know you've sold your car?" "I sold it on thursday."she frowned. "I'll take that as a NO" "Duh....I'll tell him tomorrow in church. How's Bankole??" This time, Kosi rolled her eyes. "Iono. He should be fine, I guess." "What has he done again?" "The big-head has refused to reply my messages or call me back after I told him I wanted 250k." Tutu laughed hard at this."Kosisochukwu!! U will never change. I hope Bankole can deal with this." Just then, Kosi's phone rang. "Talk of the devil." she beamed and picked the call. "Hello."she frowned. " …. just reading my texts and IM's right? Or you are just seeing my....Omg! ! I love you so much.... Banky. You are just the best. Yea... Bye...bye...oh I'm sorry.. Thank you...bye." she ended the call, then turned to Tutu. "Isn't he just the best husband?" "Husband? Not Fiancè? It's not July yet "Whatever. He's going to be in about 2months." She stuck her tongue out at Tutu. "Red & Gold. Right?" Tutu asked. "Huh??" "Red & Gold. The wedding colors." "Oh yes! Aha!.. How much would you normally charge anybody for the gown?" "400 to 500." "Really?? You are giving me that for free?.. You are the best fashion designer and best friend in the world. I'm definitely going to have the best wedding in July. I love you Tutu." "Don't flatter me with that. Simply say 'thank you'." "Oh! Sorry.....Thank you. I always forget to say that. But you're still the best designer. Know that. And I love you. Not as much as I love Banky though. Your enemy." Tutu laughed at this reminder. She and Bankole never got along. Maybe because they were both stubborn, although Tutu was 'mush' on the inside, only Kosi and Jesse knew this. Tutu was the type of person who would sacrifce anything for that one she loved and most times, Kosi thought this was a bad thing. ...***... |
The Perfect Wedding: 1 "I'm very happy for you. Finally, you found someone else. What does he do?" Kosi asked, beaming with joy. Tutu stared blankly. "Does he have a job?" Kosi asked again. "Yes" Tutu replied. "What kinda job?" "Publishing and Designing." "Publishing?" "Yes. Publishing". Tutu said again, trying to convince herself she hadn't forgotten. "Wierd. What do publishers do? Does he earn enough to take care of you?" "You know I don't really need anyone to take care of me. I can take care of myself. I have a good job." "That sounds interesting." Kosi yawned." Did you invite him to my wedding?" Kosi asked again.. "Yes. Why not? Who else will be my date? He's my boyfriend already!" "Yeah, my friend. Ok. I hear you." Kosi yawned again. "Be happy for me. I said YES in April." "Fool's month. It's not too late to change your mind." Kosi added. Tutu ignored her and continued. "He's Intelligent and smart and he's good-looking too. He's been my friend for over 2years plus he's super good to me and not irresponsible. He's God fearing." "It's ok Tutu. I believe you. Can you stop talking about the guy?" Kosi rolled her eyes. "Am I boring you with my stories?" "Yes. As always. What are your plans? With him, I mean." "Plans?" Tutu snorted. "We just started for Christ's sake." "Do you want to marry him?" "I don't know, Kosi. It's too early to tell." "You said you've known him for two years now." "Yes. So??" "So? Do you plan to get married at all. You are getting old na." "Stop talking as if we aren't the same age." "Right but I'm getting married in about 7weeks." "Ooh..." Tutu sounded hurt. "Honey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound that way but, I had to say it." Kosi apologised. "Nah.. You have a point." "Exactly!" . Kosi hi-fived herself mentally. "So you need to stop playing around and start getting serious." "Playing?? How many boyfriends have I had?" "That's not what I meant. I still can't get over your break-up with Tunji. I mean that guy's good-looking and he has money." stressing the last word, she continued. "He only cheated once." "That's it. I have had it with your stories about forgiveness and cheating-only-once. Why didn't you forgive me when I told you something you didn't want to hear about Bankole since you are so good at 'forgiving' or using the word?" "You want to talk about that now?" "Yes!" Tutu snapped. "It's cos I love him." Kosi shrugged. "When you love someone, you ignore their errors and overlook their flaws even when they don't deserve it. You didn't love Tunji enough." "I loved him too much. He didn't respect me." Tutu argued. "Who needs respect when you can have money?." Kosi smirked. "You know one funny thing about you?" "What?!" Kosi asked. "You say something really smart and then you end with something incredibly stupid." "Haha..that's why you are my friend. We complement each other." Kosi laughed with her head held back, exposing her neck. "Is that a tattoo?" Tutu noticed. "Yes. Dots. Banky loves it." she added, grinning. "Good for him, bad for you." "Jealous much?" Tutu raised her hands in surrender. "What's his name?" Kosi continued "Huh?" Tutu was lost. "Obviously not Tunji." "Oh.. Jesse Akinyele." "hmmn.. Akinyele. Is his daddy that rich Jugde??" "No. His dad's late..since he was a teenager. He's actually an orphan." "Oops.. So he's not rich?" "That's the only thing you can think about? Look, I'm hungry. We've been sitting here since without getting a meal." Kosi looked around. "but they are not sending us away naw." Tutu laughed, shaking her head. Kosi had the smirk on her face. |
