*CHAPTER 3*

"Who can answer the question on the board?", Mr Osaro calmly asked. I rose up my hand, "yes daniel".
"Poetry is the act of expressing one's feeling through a poem", I boldly said. "Give him a round of applause", Mr osaro said beaming with smiles,"come and take this money", he handed me a #200 note, I gladly collected it.

That was the Mr osaro I knew, the Mr osaro with us in the room right now was looking angry and fierce. He looked around the room briefly and walked out, he came back moments later with one of the guards he called gabon. Holding a basket in one hand he ordered gabon to reveal its contents."Jeeeessuususss", we heard emeka scream from the back of the room, the contents in the basket were the heads of some of our classmates,"to..tobi...david..chigozie...dead... Aaahhh...Sir what did we do to you?? Eh what??" Emeka said challenging the devil in our midst, "shaarraap...shaarap I say..idiat...This is what happens to anyone who tries to play smart, and I mean anyone, I won't hesitate to chop off their heads", mr osaro said looking at my direction.

I saw the outspoken Emeka, his Iota of braveness had dwindled. "Boss..boss man Baba don come ooo",a guard shouted from outside. "Finally..let the rituals begin", mr osaro said with a smirk on his face as he left the room shutting the metal door tightly...rituals?? What did he mean by that ?? I thought he brought us here to demand ransoms from our parent??

We heard hushed voices outside the door and soon the baba was led into the room...his appearance was frightening...he looked older than methuselah himself. He looked around the room as he chanted some incantations to his own hearing...he quietly walked to were Emeka was sited and placed a calabash on his head. "He is the first one", the Baba said in a croaked voice. Emeka was shaking like a fish deprived of water.. Gabon and two other guards came into the room and got hold of Emeka. "Stop. Were are you taking me to? I don't want to diiieee... Leave me..leave me.. God help me ..please" He said admist tears. We all watched helplessly as he struggled with the guards, they led him outside of the room after tying him up.

Emeka was gone leaving just ten of us...I couldn't take it any more we had to leave this place. We had to come up with a plan...we had to..."AAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH". my thinking was cut short as Emeka loud screams echoed through out the building.


He was dead.

*CHAPTER 2*

I heard the pattering of rain on the rusted roof above me...the leak from the roof brought me back to life. I gasped for air like a dying man taking his last breath..maybe it was because of the stench of unwashed human bodies or the fact that I was choking on my own saliva.
I tried to clear my eyes and observed my surroundings. We had been placed in a small mud thatched room I noticed as I ran my hands through the wall...the room was dimly lit by a lantern that was placed at the corner of the room. I could make out the faces of the boys, I recognized most of them as my school mates.

My eyes searched frantically for my best friend, "Ade..Ade",I called out in a hushed voice.
"Daniel is that you", a voice said from the end of the room, I quietly crawled to were the voice was coming from and I saw Ade the brave guy I used to know looking so timid and soft-spoken.
We hugged like our lives depended on it as we came in contact, I could see tears streaming down his face.
"Daniel I thought you....I thought you were dead..I saw you being hit by those mad men" he managed to say as his lips were visibly swollen.
Ade was a very handsome guy, he stood six feet tall and always had this I am in charge look on his face right now he was lookin like a mad man.
"I was only unconscious", I said looking straight into oblivion.
I was lost in thoughts, is this how I will end my life? , what will become of my aged parents and my younger siblings?, why has nobody come for us by now?, the noise from outside the door brought me back to my senses. " Are they here to kill us" ade blurted out to no one in particular. We heard footsteps which came to a halt outside the door and almost immediately the door was wide open revealing my worst fears*****

*CHAPTER 1*

*I run through the woods, hitting every branch there was. Scratches cover my arms and legs, blood dripping out of the cuts. Feet crunching on the leaves, are they my feet? Or are they the feet of the men after us? I could see the others ahead of me.

My breath is short, my sides are aching. I don't know how long I will be able to keep this up.

Shut up. I tell myself. I try to catch my breath but there was no time for that, everywhere was beginning to get blurry, I hear a scream, one of the boys ahead me was badly hurt, I tried to skip past him but It was like a tree root jumped out at me, making my ankle twist and having gravity pull my body to the ground.

Get up! Get up now! Chei I Don die!!! My brain screams. My ankle screams something different, it screamed PAIN!!!. The pain shoots from my ankle to the rest of my body, paralyzing me. I have never felt any pain like this in my 15 years of being on this earth, even Mr osaro's canning could not be compared with this pain.....Yes, Mr osaro were was he..
I could see him in the distant holding what seems to be a Cutlass, I don't think I'm seeing correctly that can't be him but my eye wasn't deceiving me this time I could easily make out the letters "NYSC" on his blood soaked white shirt.
The crunching of leaves brings me back to reality it was beginning to get closer .
I'm dead I mutter silently...What the hell do these guys want with me? My attempt to get up fails when suddenly a heavy punch crashes into my skull, before I black out I could see the others being captured by MR OSARO and some men in black, they all seemed ragged...I couldn't make out what they were saying but I knew I wasn't mistaking when I heard them say "THEY MUST DIE", I finally blacked out.
