Van Gaal: Playing a 4-4-2 makes my ass twitch
The former Netherlands boss believes that the
Red Devils are more secure in his much-
criticised 3-5-2 setup, while he could deploy
club-record signing Angel Di Maria up front again
By Ewan Roberts
Jan 23, 2015 08:30:00
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hit
back at critics of his 3-5-2 formation and says
that his side lack balance when they play with a
back four, causing the Dutchman's "ass to
twitch".
Despite having only lost once in their last 13
matches in all competitions, the Red Devils have
been criticised for a series of laboured
performances, struggling to overcome QPR and
minnows Yeovil Town, with fans calling for a
change of system – a plea which the manager
dismissed .
Despite more emphatic results playing with 4-4-2,
Van Gaal remains convinced that the formation is
too exposed and insists he will continue to field a
back three.
"I know that, with 4-4-2, the stats are giving
positive results, we have won more with 4-4-2 in
a diamond, but, when you analyse the games,
then we have twitched our ass on the bench," he
told reporters ahead of Friday's trip to face
Cambridge United in the FA Cup fourth round.
"I said to my players I was squeezing my ass but
I knew that was the wrong expression. I meant I
have twitched my ass on the bench because we
were out of balance. We won against West Ham
playing 4-4-2 for instance but all the time it was
twitching your ass and I don't like it.
"After I switched the system we won nine in a
row [sic] then we lose one game and the
discussion about the system starts up again. It's
ridiculous."
Van Gaal is convinced that results, and
performances, will pick up again as his side
become more accustomed to the 3-5-2 formation,
while he also expanded on his decision to pick
Angel Di Maria up front at Loftus Road.
"I do not feel the players are completely
comfortable with the new system yet," he
continued.
"I would like them to be more comfortable but we
are working on this in the middle of the season so
we are doing a lot of things during the matches."
On Di Maria, he added: "It was something I
wanted to try because we needed pace up front
to stretch the game. When we play 4-4-2 Di
Maria can play left midfield; in the 3-5-2 we
haven't seen him so much because he has been
injured.
"Then he came back and I tried him as a striker
because, when you have pace in that position,
you stretch the pitch and make a bigger space for
your midfielders. I tried it in a game because I
didn't have the chance to do it in the preparation
at the beginning of the season."

United’s new signing Rojo ‘could face prison over
bottle attack’
Manchester United’s new signing Marcos Rojo is
reportedly sweating on a court appearance in
Argentina following an alleged bottle attack on a
neighbour.
The alleged attack took place in November 2010
but according to a report in the Sunday People
newspaper, prosecutors still want the United
player to stand trial.
Rojo could reportedly face anything from a year in
jail to probation if he is found guilty of the
offence.
The incident is understood to have come in La
Plata, Buenos Aires as he was celebrating a
move to Spartak Moscow from Estudiantes.
Rojo, who signed for Louis van Gaal’s side from
Sporting Lisbon in a high-profile £16 million deal
earlier this week, allegedly had an argument with
neighbour Juan Pablo Gomez, who was struck
with a broken bottle.
The 24-year-old footballer was formally accused
in October 2012 and re-accused in May this year
with prosecutor Marcelo Romero awaiting news
from Rojo’s lawyers as to how he will plead.
A medical examination at the time of the incident
stated that Gomez’s injuries had been caused to
the “face, body and forearm”.
United are still awaiting a work permit for the
defender, who was part of Argentina’s run to the
World Cup final in Brazil this summer. He has
penned at five-year deal at Old Trafford.

The hero’s welcome given to Nani on his return
to Lisbon was in stark contrast to his farewell
from Manchester. Most people could barely
summon a “meh”; the majority of those who were
animated wanted to say good riddance rather
than wish him well.
Even the club barely bothered to say goodbye.
The official Twitter feed settled for a matter-of-
fact announcement of his departure . No thanks,
no highlights package, no leaving card, nothing. It
was all a bit underwhelming for a man who
played 229 times for United – more than
authentic heroes like Ruud van Nistelrooy and
Paul McGrath.
[UNITED SIGN ROJO AS NANI GOES THE OTHER
WAY]
Nani deserves better than that. He was not a
great player for Manchester United , and his
seven-year career at Old Trafford must ultimately
be viewed as a disappointment. Yet there are
myriad reasons, many beyond his control. And
that overall judgement obscures the fact that, for
a couple of years from the start of 2010, he was
the equal of any attacking player in the Premier
League.
When United won their record-breaking 19th title
in 2010-11, Nani was their Players’ Player of the
Year – even if, tellingly, the fans’ award went
elsewhere. He was also in the PFA Team of the
Year, and John O’Shea was not alone in being
“pretty amazed” that Nani did not make the
shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award.
[SCHOLES: I'M SCARED ABOUT UNITED'S
FUTURE]
In that time Nani was close to a guaranteed
source of goals and assists. His 24 assists in the
the two seasons from 2010-12 were comfortably
the most in the Premier League, and he scored 17
goals in that time as well. There were still
inconsistencies in his game, as there will always
be with a player of his nature, but he had added
intimidating efficiency to his game without losing
his capacity to take bums off seats in excitement.
In short, he had cracked it.
Even though he was much more than a highlights
player in that time, his YouTubability matches
almost anyone in the world in the last few years.
He scored some astonishing goals, both big
dippers from long range and twinkle-toed solo
efforts, as well as deceptively excellent efforts, the
kind only a class act can score.
.
Nani’s diving and perceived lack of physical
courage were commented on so frequently that
they obscured the fact that he had rare moral
courage. In the Champions League final of 2008,
for example, he took the crucial fifth penalty. In
open play, Nani always wanted the ball – whether
he was having a shocker, whether his team were
having a shocker. That often led to him look
stupid, but he never changed. His rivals in the
last few years, Ashley Young and Antonio
Valencia , were often guilty of hiding – either not
showing for the ball, or getting rid with a square
pass. Nani always wanted the ball and always
tried to make something happen, no matter how
many knocks he took.
Many of those knocks came from his manager. Sir
Alex Ferguson had a strange relationship with
Nani. Even when Nani was at is best, Ferguson
didn’t seem to truly trust him: at the back end of
that 2010-11 season, Ferguson went with
Valencia and Park Ji-sung for the title run-in and
the Champions League final. And yet there were
times when Ferguson would show almost blind
faith. He weirdly picked Nani ahead of the in-form
Valencia for the title decider at Manchester City in
2011-12, and recalled him unexpectedly for the
Champions League match against Real Madrid a
year later.
Nani was sent off in that game and, whether you
perceive that red card as harsh or not, there’s no
question he would often end up being blamed by
Ferguson for important defeats. Ferguson even
broke one of his golden rules – never criticise
your players in public – after the League Cup
defeat to Chelsea in 2012 . Ferguson has a degree
in people, but he never quite worked out how to
manage a deceptively complex character. Nani
was a hard habit to break, because he knew how
good he could be. "He is one of the best match
winners in the game - and I am including the
whole of Europe,” said Ferguson in his last
season at Old Trafford. “ He has scored the most
incredible goals. The boy has a talent for winning
matches."
[MUELLER TURNED DOWN 'ASTRONOMICAL'
MAN UTD OFFER]
It is hard to escape the sense that Nani needed
more such comments, and that undermining him
in public – after a League Cup match, for
heaven’s sake - and in the dressing-room
ultimately backfired. Nani is not Cristiano
Ronaldo ; he is not fuelled by bronca . He’s just an
ordinary, insecure human being and an
extraordinary footballer who needs the carrot
rather than the stick. There has always been
something of the confused, innocent child about
Nani – the way he always wants the ball, his
immature reaction in certain situations, most
notably when he headbutted Lucas Neill and then
fell over pathetically
. Even his seal dribbling against Arsenal was
more the act of a kid getting carried away than
someone trying to humiliate an opponent.
That essential immaturity made it hard to
understand the extent of the dislike towards Nani.
Many United fans can’t stand him. Modern
footballers are not the stand-up guys they used
to be, in either sense. If you only like those whose
character you recognise or think you recognise,
you won’t have much to support. At least Nani is
ingenuous, unlike most of his peers. He is not
calculated or a bad human being, just a bit of a
kid who hasn’t quite grown up.
Most of the things Nani has done wrong – diving,
wastefulness in possession, even having a statue
of himself in his house – are tolerated in
isolation, yet something about the way Nani does
them seems to rub people up the wrong way. It
doesn’t help that his diving is frequently utterly
inept and seen as more embarrassing than that of
more accomplished simulators.
The crying at Anfield, used in evidence against
him by the Rambos of the press box, was
overplayed. There will be many genuinely tough
men who have shed a few seconds’ tears without
realising after, say, having a dentist’s needle
plunged into them, a physical reaction to extreme
physical pain. It is likely Nani’s was a similar
response, combined with a bit of shock, after his
leg was cut to the bone by a despicable challenge
from Jamie Carragher.
Whatever the reason for the tears, there is
something dubious about singling out the man
who cried rather than the one who threatened an
opponent’s career. It was reminiscent of Cristiano
Ronaldo being castigated for winking while Wayne
Rooney avoided significant opprobrium for driving
his studs into a man’s testicles. Nani, more than
almost anyone else in the Premier League in
recent times, represented the residual mistrust of
the foreigner. He dived, he was unreliable, he
cried.
And yet all this would not have mattered to
United fans had he continued or even extended
his form of 2010-12. There were a number of
reasons why he didn’t. A series of irritating
injuries restricted him to 14 league starts in the
last two seasons
; when he did play he had clearly regressed, and
he progressively lost Ferguson’s trust. He was
also a victim of Ferguson’s increasing belief in
prosaic wingers like Young, Park, an ageing
Giggs, Danny Welbeck and Valencia – all football
equivalents of picking a bowler because he bats a
bit.
When Nani played, particularly in big games like
the City title decider or Madrid, he was one of
only two serious attacking talents. An unfair
burden, and yet it was Nani who was often
blamed rather than the man whose tactical
cowardice in big games caused the problem in the
first place.
[SMYTH: VAN GAAL HAS ABANDONED UNITED'S
TRADITION - AND IT'S A BIG RISK]
Nani’s career is usually discussed in the context
of Cristiano Ronaldo. And while that simplistic
comparison put far too much pressure on him, the
biggest obstacle in his United career was Antonio
Valencia. Nani often had to play on the left
because of Valencia’s embarrasing one-
footedness. Nani played well on the left at times,
and scored some storming goals when he cut
infield, but he was more consistent and more
creative on the right, from where he hit some
beautiful crosses.
There were times when Valencia was unplayably
good, most notably in the second half of the
2011-12 season, yet there were other periods
when it felt like he was given preferential
treatment. The one time Nani got a run in his
best position, when Valencia broke his ankle in
September 2010, he had the best season of his
career. Next stop, rocket science.
.
Nani is far from blameless in all this. He could be
stunningly infuriating, and he made the little girl
with the little curl seem like the personification of
equilibrium. But to say it is entirely his fault is to
ignore the complexities of confidence, the fragility
of modern man, and how everything in life is so
interlinked that apparently minor decisions –
criticising a player after a League Cup match, say,
or signing a right-winger with no left foot – can
have unforeseen consequences which ultimately
have a huge impact on a man’s career, and a
man’s life.
Nani has regressed to the point where he is, to
use Ferguson’s description of the player he
signed, “pure raw material”. He was 20 then, he
is 27 now. It might be too late for Nani to
accomplish everything we thought he could, but
he deserves a bit more respect, and a bit more
affection, for what he has achieved.

MAN UTD OFFER]
It is hard to escape the sense that Nani needed
more such comments, and that undermining him
in public – after a League Cup match, for
heaven’s sake - and in the dressing-room
ultimately backfired. Nani is not Cristiano
Ronaldo ; he is not fuelled by bronca . He’s just an
ordinary, insecure human being and an
extraordinary footballer who needs the carrot
rather than the stick. There has always been
something of the confused, innocent child about
Nani – the way he always wants the ball, his
immature reaction in certain situations, most
notably when he headbutted Lucas Neill and then
fell over pathetically
. Even his seal dribbling against Arsenal was
more the act of a kid getting carried away than
someone trying to humiliate an opponent.
That essential immaturity made it hard to
understand the extent of the dislike towards Nani.
Many United fans can’t stand him. Modern
footballers are not the stand-up guys they used
to be, in either sense. If you only like those whose
character you recognise or think you recognise,
you won’t have much to support. At least Nani is
ingenuous, unlike most of his peers. He is not
calculated or a bad human being, just a bit of a
kid who hasn’t quite grown up.
Most of the things Nani has done wrong – diving,
wastefulness in possession, even having a statue
of himself in his house – are tolerated in
isolation, yet something about the way Nani does
them seems to rub people up the wrong way. It
doesn’t help that his diving is frequently utterly
inept and seen as more embarrassing than that of
more accomplished simulators.
The crying at Anfield, used in evidence against
him by the Rambos of the press box, was
overplayed. There will be many genuinely tough
men who have shed a few seconds’ tears without
realising after, say, having a dentist’s needle
plunged into them, a physical reaction to extreme
physical pain. It is likely Nani’s was a similar
response, combined with a bit of shock, after his
leg was cut to the bone by a despicable challenge
from Jamie Carragher.
Whatever the reason for the tears, there is
something dubious about singling out the man
who cried rather than the one who threatened an
opponent’s career. It was reminiscent of Cristiano
Ronaldo being castigated for winking while Wayne
Rooney avoided significant opprobrium for driving
his studs into a man’s testicles. Nani, more than
almost anyone else in the Premier League in
recent times, represented the residual mistrust of
the foreigner. He dived, he was unreliable, he
cried.
And yet all this would not have mattered to
United fans had he continued or even extended
his form of 2010-12. There were a number of
reasons why he didn’t. A series of irritating
injuries restricted him to 14 league starts in the
last two seasons
; when he did play he had clearly regressed, and
he progressively lost Ferguson’s trust. He was
also a victim of Ferguson’s increasing belief in
prosaic wingers like Young, Park, an ageing
Giggs, Danny Welbeck and Valencia – all football
equivalents of picking a bowler because he bats a
bit.
When Nani played, particularly in big games like
the City title decider or Madrid, he was one of
only two serious attacking talents. An unfair
burden, and yet it was Nani who was often
blamed rather than the man whose tactical
cowardice in big games caused the problem in the
first place.
[SMYTH: VAN GAAL HAS ABANDONED U

Nani’s career is usually discussed in the context
of Cristiano Ronaldo. And while that simplistic
comparison put far too much pressure on him, the
biggest obstacle in his United career was Antonio
Valencia. Nani often had to play on the left
because of Valencia’s embarrasing one-
footedness. Nani played well on the left at times,
and scored some storming goals when he cut
infield, but he was more consistent and more
creative on the right, from where he hit some
beautiful crosses.
There were times when Valencia was unplayably
good, most notably in the second half of the
2011-12 season, yet there were other periods
when it felt like he was given preferential
treatment. The one time Nani got a run in his
best position, when Valencia broke his ankle in
September 2010, he had the best season of his
career. Next stop, rocket science.
.
Nani is far from blameless in all this. He could be
stunningly infuriating, and he made the little girl
with the little curl seem like the personification of
equilibrium. But to say it is entirely his fault is to
ignore the complexities of confidence, the fragility
of modern man, and how everything in life is so
interlinked that apparently minor decisions –
criticising a player after a League Cup match, say,
or signing a right-winger with no left foot – can
have unforeseen consequences which ultimately
have a huge impact on a man’s career, and a
man’s life.
Nani has regressed to the point where he is, to
use Ferguson’s description of the player he
signed, “pure raw material”. He was 20 then, he
is 27 now. It might be too late for Nani to
accomplish everything we thought he could, but
he deserves a bit more respect, and a bit more
affection, for what he has achieved.

RomanceSee How To Know When A Nigerian Girl Don't Want You And You Need To Back Off by boyo44(op): 8:20am On Aug 20, 2014
To save guys the trouble and girls, the nuisance,
here are seven tell-tale signs that help guys know
when to back off.
1. She ignores your calls: This is the number one
bummer. This was the first answer I was given by
most ladies. You think because she gave you her
number when you asked for it means she likes
you or would pick up your calls. Think again! If
all the time you call, she never picks up, maybe
you should consider looking for another babe.
2. She gives you the I’ll-call-you-back flip-off:
This is very common. If she tells you each time
you call her, “Tunde I’m so sorry, I am in the
middle of something. I would call you back in five
minutes” and then doesn’t, she probably never
will. So, don’t wait around for it.
3. She’s always busy/”posting” you: Okay, now
you have her number and she eventually picks up.
Then the moment you ask to see her, she tells
you a million and one things she has to do: “My
brother is sick, I have to stay home with him.” “I
already have plans to hang out with my
girlfriends. We’ll see tomorrow.” Trust me, she is
probably home watching a Vin Diesel movie and
eating popcorn. If this consistently happens, this
is a sign. Brother, move on!
4. She says she has a boyfriend: Sometimes, this
is false, guys. She may not actually be dating
anyone and would just tell you this, so you can
get off her back. Some even go as far as saying
they are gay. Although this doesn’t stop some
determined guys. For these guys, keep on
chasing, God is in control of the situation.
5. She is materialistic: I found this answer rather
hilarious. One of the ladies I interviewed said, “Its
very easy, just demand loads of things from him,
he would run away”. Today, it is her hair,
tomorrow, it’s a car. Guys, a little expo, she
might not actually be this kind of person. She just
does not care about you and wants to discard
you. So Romeo, look for your Juliet somewhere
else.
6. She prefers dates in public places: This is
another sign. Every time you keep asking her out
on dates or ask her to have dinner at your house,
she looks for ways to shy away. She does not
want to be trapped in an uncomfortable position
where it would only be the two of you. No matter
how hard you try, she would avoid intimate
lunches or dinners. She might even bring her
friend along. We all know guys hate this.
7. Friendzone: I had to save the best for last. This
is very common among the ladies. You like this
girl so much and next thing you know, she
introduces you as her friend, or even tells you
things like, “Tolu, I value our friendship and don’t
want to lose you as a good friend”. Mister, I’m
sorry to say, but you have been “friend zoned”.
This one dey pain!
Most guys like to ignore these signs because they
feel she is just playing hard to get. Sometimes
guys, this is not the case. She is just not that
into you. .

SailorXY: I remember CR7 powered a thunderous bullet of a header to the utter dismay of Jonzing Mouthinho, but what I can't remember is the actual midfield set-up.

however, the match against Chelshit u were referring to was the semis before the final against Barca in Wembley?

even the semis against Barca, I can't see how we were dominant.
& yes, the glorious final in Rome had Hargreaves on the right wing when we had possession, without possession Hargreaves was the destroyer. 4-4-2 with the ball, 4-3-3 without the ball & 4-1-2-3 shape on the counter {I know all the argument about the formation on the night, I'm not interested in that tho. I just stated what I observed}
point of correction we beat Chelsea in the quarter final and shake04 in the semi. I can't forget that time when we beat Chelsea three times in a row within three weeks. it was my best time as a Manchester united fan

coogar: the only thing nani needs right now is a good run of games & plenty of love from van gaal. what he showed in the last 10 mins against swansea tells me we have a potent winger waiting to explode if used very well. di maria is a waste of time & money. i would rather we use that amount to get another world class central midfielder.

we need 2 world class centre-halves, one world class central midfielder. the spine of the team should be cast-iron. when the spine is flawed, the whole body is useless.

a spine of:
de gea-hummels-vidal-mata-van persie should be enough to get us a second place comfortably.
Nice post guy
nani can be our robben it just require a little faith and trust. januzaj might be an overrated teen he look like another Obertan to me

HealthWhy Patrick Sawyer Deliberately Travelled Tonigeria - Wife by boyo44(op): 9:33pm On Aug 14, 2014
The widow of late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-
American who brought Ebola into Nigeria, has
made heartfelt revelations on why her husband
deliberately came into the country with the deadly
disease .
Premium Times reports that the wife of the late
Patrick, Decontee Sawyer, who is a Radio Host in
New York has cleared the rumours about how her
husband was defiant to the law that restricted
any Ebola infected person from travelling outside
the country.
Late Patrick Sawyer’s wife Decontee Sawyer

Decontee made it known that it was the yearning
of his late husband to receive adequate health
care which he could not get in Liberia that made
him opted to travel down to Africa’s most
populous country, Nigeria.
Mrs Sawyer also took to her Facebook account to
explain more about it. In her words: “I’ve read
other reports in other papers (not the New York
Times) about Patrick’s “recklessness.” I get
where they’re coming from, and they certainly
have the right to feel the way they do. However,
as Patrick’s widow, I would like to shed some
light on this from another perspective. One that
only I, his wife, would know,” she wrote.
“I knew Patrick better than anybody else
(including himself). He had told me many times in
the past how much he didn’t trust the Liberian
healthcare system. He would tell me about how a
person would get checked in for one thing, and
get misdiagnosed and get the wrong treatment as
a result. On top of that, Patrick was a clean freak,
and told me how filthy a lot of the hospitals were.
“He didn’t tell me this, but I know in my heart of
hearts that Patrick was determined to get to
Nigeria by all means because he felt that Nigeria
would be a place of refuge. He has expressed to
me many times in the past that he felt
passionately about helping to be a part of
strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, but he
knew it wasn’t there yet, and he wouldn’t want to
take a chance with his life because a lot of people
depended on him… Patrick had a passion for life,
and he wouldn’t have wanted his to end. So, I bet
anything that he was thinking, if I could only get
to Nigeria, a way more developed country than
Liberia, I would be able to get some help. How
ironic.”
The late Liberian-American’s decision to travel
down to Nigeria has caused so many uproar and
panic in the country as many Nigerians have
booed the late Sawyer as an inconsiderate fellow
who just wanted to deliberately spread the deadly
disease. Even the Nigerian President, Goodluck
Jonathan, few days ago lambasted the late
Sawyer calling him a mad man
for the irrational decision he took by travelling to
Nigeria.
Mrs. Sawyer however combated words of many
people saying her husband deliberately brought
the disease to the country by saying: “It has been
reported that Patrick avoided physical contact
with everyone he came across during his trip from
Liberia to Nigeria. The CCTV in the airport
revealed it. When he got to Nigeria, he turned
himself in letting them know that he had just
flown in from Liberia.
“Patrick went to Nigeria for help so that he can
get properly diagnosed, and not misdiagnosed in
Liberia. And if it came back that he did have
Ebola, he trusted the Nigerian healthcare system
a lot more than he trusted the Liberian’s. His
action, as off as it was, was a desperate plea for
help. Patrick didn’t want to die, and he thought
his life would be saved in Nigeria.”
Mrs. Sawyer further took a swipe at the Liberian
President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who said Mr
Sawyer was indisciplined and disrespectful for
failing to heed medical advice not to travel. Mrs
Sawyer said if President Johnson-Sirleaf had
fixed the healthcare system in Liberia, her
husband would not have left in search of
treatment elsewhere.
“I write today, not simply because of Patrick, but
because of the broken healthcare system in the
Liberia, and the government’s inability under
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (and other past
Presidents) to fix it. Good doctors, nurses, and
other healthcare providers aren’t given the
support they need to save lives.
“President Sirleaf went on CNN News throwing
stones at Patrick, a man who can no longer
defend himself, a man who worked tirelessly for
Liberia. She should be ashamed of herself. I used
to admire this woman, and was excited and proud
of her accomplishment as the first woman
President in the entire continent of Africa. She will
always own that. We will always own that. It
can’t be taken away from her. It’s something to
be proud of. But this woman has failed her
country,” s he wrote.
It would be recalled that Nigeria had a clean slate
of the record of the disease not until the late
Patrick Sawyer walked right into the country’s
biggest city, Lagos.
