Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola joined prominent traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Alake of Egbaland, Adedotun Gbadebo and others at an Iftar hosted by President Bola Tinubu. The gathering reflected a blend of political leadership and traditional authority, emphasizing unity, mutual respect, and national cohesion during the holy month of Ramadan. Discussions at the event highlighted the importance of peace, inclusive governance, and continued collaboration between government and traditional institutions in addressing national challenges. ——- Chatter ahead of the 2027 election cycle, claims that the lawmaker representing _Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency_, Hon. Dr. Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, abandoned the proposed Federal University of Science and Technology, Remo, have come under closer scrutiny. An investigation by our correspondent suggests that the narrative may be built on selective interpretation of facts—raising questions about timing, intent, and the broader political undertones behind the claim. The Remo Federal University Bill (HB 1852) was sponsored by the late Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga and had already advanced significantly before her passing. Legislative records show that the bill passed Third Reading in the House of Representatives on May 23, 2023, and subsequently completed all required stages in the National Assembly. It has since been awaiting presidential assent. Crucially, Hon. Ayoola-Elegbeji only assumed office in October 2025, following a bye-election conducted in August of the same year—more than two years after the bill had progressed beyond the House. This timeline raises a fundamental question: How does responsibility shift to a lawmaker who was not part of the legislative process at the time the bill advanced? Further checks reveal that a major policy decision by the Federal Government may hold the key to understanding the current situation. On August 13, 2025, the Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , approved a seven-year moratorium on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions. The policy was introduced to curb the rapid expansion of underfunded institutions and to consolidate resources toward improving existing ones. This development effectively placed new proposals—including the Remo Federal University—within a restricted policy window. Providing additional clarity, Senate President Godswill Akpabio publicly explained that some recently assented university bills, including the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe,were approved before the moratorium came into force, allowing them to proceed without policy conflict. The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, also confirmed that approvals for institutions in Epe, Ogoniland, and parts of Kaduna State had been concluded prior to the policy shift. Yet, despite these clear distinctions, the recent release of N2 billion each as take-off funds for the _Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe,_ and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in Abuja appears to have been seized upon in some quarters as evidence to support a different narrative. Analysts say this is where the line between fact and interpretation becomes blurred. “Funding an already approved institution is not the same as approving a new one,” a policy expert told our correspondent. “But if you ignore that distinction, you can easily create a misleading argument. The pattern, observers note, suggests a deliberate comparison between pre-moratorium approvals and a post-moratorium proposal—two scenarios that are fundamentally different. Even more telling, sources within the constituency point to the timing of the claims, which surfaced as political alignments ahead of the next election cycle begin to take shape. “When facts are taken out of context, especially close to an election season, you have to ask who benefits from the confusion,” a local stakeholder remarked. At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Sagamu, discussions reportedly emphasized a coordinated approach to engaging the Presidency when the policy environment becomes favourable, indicating that the project remains on the agenda rather than abandoned. For many observers, the controversy underscores a familiar pattern in political communication—where complex policy realities are simplified into convenient talking points. *“It’s easier to say someone ‘abandoned’ a project than to explain a federal policy constraint,”* another analyst noted. *“But the truth is often less dramatic and more procedural.”* As the debate continues, one thing appears increasingly clear: the fate of the *Remo Federal University Bill* is tied not to individual withdrawal, but to a broader national policy currently shaping the establishment of new institutions across the country. Of course, the federal lawmaker, Hon. Ayoola-Elegbeji is said to be more committed to seeing it actualized. She is working relentlessly on other bills as well, for the progress of Remo people. And in the midst of competing narratives, the real story may not be what is being said—but what is being left out. ______ The Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Segun Sowunmi As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu proceeds to the United Kingdom on a state visit, it is important that the Nigerian delegation remains clear-eyed about the central issue confronting our nation today: security. Courtesy meetings, investment forums, and ceremonial engagements have their place, but they must not obscure the overriding reality that Nigeria is bleeding. Across vast stretches of the country, communities are living under the shadow of senseless violence. Villages are attacked, farmers are displaced, and innocent men, women, and children often the poorest and most vulnerable are murdered in ways that defy logic. Over the years Nigeria has deployed enormous kinetic force to contain this menace, yet the cycle of violence persists with disturbing resilience. That persistence alone should tell us something: the problem is not merely the gunmen in the forests. It is the invisible network that funds them, arms them, moves them, and sustains their operations. This is where the visit to the United Kingdom must carry real purpose. The modern Nigerian state did not emerge in a vacuum. The 1914 amalgamation engineered by Frederick Lugard under the authority of the United Kingdom fused diverse peoples into one political entity. History therefore imposes a moral obligation on Britain not to remain a distant observer while that entity struggles under waves of destabilizing violence. Nigeria today remains the crown jewel of the Commonwealth of Nations in terms of population, influence, and strategic importance. If such a country is allowed to hemorrhage indefinitely, the consequences will reverberate far beyond its borders. The United Kingdom, with its vast intelligence capabilities, financial monitoring systems, and global diplomatic reach, cannot pretend that it lacks the capacity to contribute meaningfully to dismantling the networks that sustain terror and banditry in Nigeria. What Nigeria requires is not vague expressions of concern but concrete collaboration: • Intelligence cooperation aimed at identifying financiers of violence. • Financial tracking mechanisms to expose illicit funding streams moving through global systems. • Assistance in disrupting arms procurement and logistics networks. • Strategic support in strengthening investigative capacity to unmask those who profit from chaos. Investment, trade agreements, and economic partnerships however attractive cannot substitute for the basic condition of national life: safety. No investment climate can flourish where farmers cannot farm, traders cannot travel, and rural communities live under constant threat of massacre. Nigeria cannot truly appreciate any economic partnership, no matter how lucrative it appears on paper, if its citizens continue to be slaughtered in their homes and fields. The message, therefore, should be simple and unequivocal: security must come first. This visit offers President Bola Ahmed Tinubu an opportunity to insist that Britain move beyond diplomatic niceties and confront the moral dimension of history. The United Kingdom must demonstrate that it is not an indifferent spectator but a responsible partner willing to help degrade the capacity of those who terrorize one of the most consequential nations in the Commonwealth. Anything less would be a grave abdication of responsibility at a moment when Nigeria urgently needs every ally it can find. ______ HON. WHY HON. LANRE EDUN EMERGES AS A STRONG CONTENDER FOR ABEOKUTA SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle, stakeholders within Abeokuta South Federal Constituency are increasingly focused on the quality of representation the area deserves at the national level. Among the emerging names, Hon. Lanre Edun has continued to attract attention from party faithful, community leaders and residents, with many describing him as a candidate whose profile aligns with the current demands of effective and people-oriented representation. Grassroots Roots and Local Identity Political analysts note that one of the key strengths of Hon. Edun lies in his deep connection to Abeokuta South. Widely regarded as a true son of the constituency, his familiarity with the socio-economic realities of the area has been cited as a major advantage. Unlike candidates perceived as distant from the grassroots, Edun’s longstanding presence within the community has contributed to his growing acceptance. Residents who spoke with our correspondent emphasized that representation at the federal level requires a clear understanding of local challenges which is ranging from infrastructure deficits to youth unemployment and expressed confidence that such insight is better provided by individuals with strong local ties. Experience in Grassroots Mobilization Observers within the political space also point to Hon. Edun’s experience in grassroots politics as a defining factor. Over the years, he has reportedly maintained active engagement with party structures and community-based initiatives, earning him recognition across various wards in the constituency. A party stakeholder who preferred anonymity described him as “a mobilizer who understands the language of the people,” adding that such qualities are essential for both electoral success and effective representation. Growing Popularity Across Demographics Findings indicate that Hon. Edun enjoys a measure of acceptance among different segments of the population, including youths, women and traditional stakeholders. His reputation for accessibility and willingness to engage has been highlighted as a factor contributing to his appeal. Political commentators suggest that candidates with broad-based support often stand a better chance of not only winning elections but also fostering unity within their constituencies after the polls. Focus on Development-Oriented Representation In terms of policy direction, Hon. Edun is said to be aligning his proposed legislative agenda with key development priorities in Abeokuta South. These include attracting federal infrastructure projects, promoting youth empowerment through job creation initiatives, and improving access to education and healthcare services. Analysts note that the ability to translate campaign promises into tangible benefits remains a critical expectation for constituents, particularly at a time when citizens are demanding more accountability and responsiveness from elected officials. Implications for Party Strength and Electoral Outlook Within the All Progressives Congress (APC), some members believe that presenting a candidate with grassroots appeal and a relatively uncontroversial profile could enhance the party’s chances in the constituency. Hon. Edun’s perceived loyalty to party structures and his rapport with stakeholders are viewed as potential assets in this regard. While the race is still evolving, political watchers agree that candidates who combine local credibility, organizational experience and a clear development agenda are likely to shape the outcome of the contest. Conclusion As Abeokuta South Federal Constituency prepares for another electoral decision, the emphasis on credible and effective representation remains central to public discourse. Hon. Lanre Edun’s growing visibility within the political space reflects a broader demand for leadership that is both accessible and development-driven. Whether this momentum will translate into electoral success remains to be seen, but for now, his candidacy continues to generate conversation among stakeholders seeking a new direction for the constituency.

“From Classrooms to Streetlights: How Hon. Lanre Edun is Changing Lives in Abeokuta South” By Our Abeokuta Correspondent ABEOKUTA— In a constituency where promises often outnumber results, Hon. Lanre Edun has proven that leadership can be measured not in speeches, but in concrete achievements that touch lives. Representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency from 2019 to 2023, Edun’s tenure stands out for its tangible impact across education, infrastructure and grassroots empowerment. Building the Future, Classroom by Classroom Education has always been at the heart of Edun’s vision. In just four years, he built ten classrooms across the constituency, ensuring that students can learn in safe and modern environments. Schools benefiting from his interventions include Nawarudeen Secondary School and Rev. Kuti Memorial Secondary School in Oke Ijeun, Baptist Girls College in Idi Aba, Federal Staff School in Olonrombo, Adatan Primary School in Adatan and Baptist Primary School in Ijaye. For many children, these classrooms are more than brick and mortar but they are doors to opportunity. He delivered twenty-one transformers and 2,500 solar streetlights, bringing light to neighborhoods long shadowed by darkness. These interventions didn’t just brighten streets but they enhanced safety, encouraged local business and gave residents a renewed sense of pride in their communities. Empowering People, Boosting the Economy What sets Edun apart is his holistic approach to empowerment. Recognizing that infrastructure alone cannot transform lives, he invested directly in the people’s potential: * Sixty motorcycles to youth, enabling entrepreneurship and mobility * Forty hair dryers for hairdressers, forty sewing machines for tailors, and forty catering tools for caterers, equipping tradesmen and women to thrive * Forty fishery tools to farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture * Capital support for twenty-one market associations, fueling grassroots commerce Through these programs, ordinary residents became business owners, artisans and entrepreneurs are also proof that strategic leadership can create ripple effects of opportunity throughout a community. A Record That Speaks for Itself From classrooms to transformers, motorcycles to market support, Edun’s record is clear because leadership is about results, not rhetoric. His tenure transformed the daily lives of thousands, bringing development directly to Abeokuta South’s doorstep. As the constituency looks ahead, many are confident that Hon. Lanre Edun remains the visionary leader capable of building on this legacy and continuing to light up streets, classrooms, and the lives of residents across Abeokuta South.

Hon. Dr. Jelili Kayode Amusan: A Growing Call for Purposeful Leadership in Ogun State. Although Hon. Dr. Jelili Kayode Amusan has not made any official declaration regarding a bid for the governorship race of Ogun State, but his name continues to resonate strongly within political circles and among citizens across the state. Ogun State, fondly referred to as the Gateway State, occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape. With its expanding industrial base, rich cultural heritage, and reputation as a hub of education and enterprise, the state holds immense promise. However, stakeholders maintain that realizing its full potential requires leadership defined by vision, competence and a deep understanding of grassroots realities. In recent months, conversations in community forums, professional groups and youth platforms have increasingly reflected confidence in Dr. Amusan’s capacity to provide such leadership. Supporters describe him as a public servant with notable administrative experience, accessibility and a consistent record of engagement with the people. Advocates point to his commitment to empowerment initiatives, youth inclusion and community-oriented development as indicators of a leadership style rooted in service and accountability. They argue that at a time when citizens are seeking responsive governance and sustainable development, Ogun State requires a leader who can bridge policy with people-centered implementation. While Dr. Amusan has remained silent on his political intentions, observers note that the growing public interest in his potential candidacy signals a broader yearning for purposeful governance. Political analysts suggest that should he declare his intention to contest, he would emerge as a formidable figure in the race. For now, discussions about his possible ambition remain speculative. Yet, the momentum surrounding his name reflects a shared aspiration among many residents and the desire for a Gateway State that works efficiently, grows sustainably and delivers tangible dividends of democracy to its people.

Other officers elected include Alhaji Tunde Abioye as Vice Chairman and Alhaji Muritala Odunlami as Organising Secretary. Hon. Obanla holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Crop Production and Crop Protection from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAB). He previously served as Chairman of Ere ward Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chairman , Social Democratic Party(SDP) in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and as Supervisory Councillor for Health in the local government. The Returning Officer, Hon. Lanre Abass, affirmed the reviewed list of executives after due process. The congress was conducted peacefully, in line with the directive of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, to review party executives across all levels in the state. Security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force (Sango-Ota Command), and the Nigeria Navy, were present, alongside party faithfuls and delegates. The APC reaffirmed its commitment to unity, internal democracy, and the consolidation of its grassroots structures across Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. ____ Ogun State 2027: Four Aspirants, One Zone — And Now An Alternative? Who Takes the Seat? The 2027 governorship race in Ogun State is gradually taking shape — and one political twist is already dominating conversations across Abeokuta, Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa: Four major contenders. One zone. One ticket. With Governor Dapo Abiodun completing his tenure in 2027, attention has shifted to who succeeds him at Oke-Mosan. Interestingly, four heavyweight names—largely rooted in Ogun West political calculations—are positioning strongly within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). But now, another voice is entering the conversation. The big question: Who will succeed the amiable Dapo Abiodun given the political status of each contender? And if consensus fails — is there an alternative? The Four Gladiators 1️Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) Perhaps the most visibly mobilized aspirant at the moment, Senator Adeola commands enormous grassroots appeal, especially in Ogun West. As a ranking senator with significant influence at the National Assembly, he combines federal power with local political penetration. Why he’s seen as a frontliner: Strong financial capacity and campaign machinery Extensive empowerment programs across the state Deep grassroots structure Growing statewide visibility beyond his base For many political observers, structure wins primaries — and Yayi’s structure is loud and visible. --- 2️⃣ Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) A consistent face in Ogun governorship contests, GNI brings experience and name recognition. Having contested multiple times, he understands the political terrain across all three senatorial districts. What strengthens his case: Longstanding governorship ambition with loyal supporters Strong technocratic background Legislative experience at the federal level Reputation for policy-driven engagement His supporters argue that persistence, visibility, and familiarity could finally work in his favor. --- 3️⃣ Abiodun Akinlade A respected political figure with strong roots in Ogun West, Akinlade has built influence through years of legislative service and political networking. Why he remains relevant: Solid grassroots alliances Strategic relationships within party structures Experience navigating internal party dynamics Seen as a stabilizing political figure In a consensus-driven scenario, Akinlade’s quiet strength could become decisive. --- 4️⃣ Noimot Salako-Oyedele As the incumbent Deputy Governor, Salako-Oyedele brings executive experience and continuity. She represents governance stability and policy familiarity within the current administration. Her strategic advantages: Direct executive experience at state level Strong technocratic credentials Administrative continuity narrative Potential historic female candidacy If party leaders prioritize continuity and executive stability, her chances become significantly stronger. --- 🆕 The Emerging Alternative: Otunba Segun Showunmi Amid the intense calculations within Ogun West, a new political argument is gaining traction: What if Ogun West fails to unite behind a single consensus candidate? Enter Segun Showunmi, the Odofin of Keesi — a son of the soil, widely known in Egba land and across the nation. Showunmi is increasingly being projected by supporters as “the only alternative” should internal divisions weaken Ogun West’s chances. Why his name is surfacing: Strong recognition in Ogun Central, especially Egba axis National political visibility and media presence Traditional title holder (Odofin of Keesi), adding cultural stature Seen as outspoken, bold, and independent For some political watchers, if Ogun West becomes divided and fragmented at the primaries, the momentum could shift toward a candidate from another zone — and Showunmi could benefit from that opening. --- ⚖️ The Zoning Dilemma Ogun politics has always been sensitive to senatorial balance — Ogun East, Central, and West. With multiple strong aspirants from one zone, internal party dynamics become critical. Key questions shaping the race: Will zoning override individual ambition? Can Ogun West unite behind one consensus candidate? Will internal rivalry split delegate votes? Could another zone capitalize on division? If consensus fails, does the alternative become inevitable? History shows that when a zone divides its strength, political advantage often shifts elsewhere. --- 🏛️ The Real Battlefield: The Primaries Since the major contenders are within the APC, the real contest may be decided long before the general election. In Ogun politics, three things matter most: 1. Delegate arithmetic 2. Party structure 3. Strategic endorsements Popularity on the streets does not always translate to primary victory. Organization does. --- 🌍 Beyond Ambition — It’s a Power Equation The 2027 race is shaping up as: Structure vs. Experience Executive Continuity vs. Grassroots Mobilization Financial Strength vs. Political Loyalty Unity vs. Internal Division Zoning Strategy vs. Alternative Path Four gladiators. One dominant zone. One emerging alternative. One governorship seat. When the dust settles, only one name will emerge. The question is no longer who wants it. The real question is: Who can consolidate support, secure the delegates, manage zoning politics, and convince Ogun State that they are the safest pair of hands for 2027? Ogun is watching. 👀 ________ Barr. Ogun Targets 2,000km of Road Construction Before End of Abiodun’s Tenure The Ogun State Government has disclosed that it has constructed over 1,600 kilometres of roads since 2019 and is working towards completing at least 2,000 kilometres before the end of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure. The Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, made this known during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, where he explained that road construction is currently ongoing across all 20 local government areas of the state. According to Akinsanya, the administration inherited over 4,000 kilometres of bad roads and deliberately set out to tackle the challenge through a statewide infrastructure strategy focused on rural connectivity, food security corridors, economic hubs and access to schools. “We are talking about thousands of kilometres of bad roads, and as of today, we have completed more than 1,600 kilometres across the state,” he said. “We are not concentrating on one area alone — work is ongoing in all 20 local governments.” He highlighted major projects including the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road, as well as extensive works in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Akute areas. Akinsanya noted that previously impassable roads such as Ajuwon–Akute, Alhaji Kosoko–Akute and Yakoyo–Alagbole have now been fully rehabilitated, significantly improving movement between Ogun and neighbouring Lagos communities. The Commissioner added that construction is progressing steadily from Ota through Akute to Ijoko, with several sections already completed and others actively under development. Also speaking on the programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, defended the administration’s infrastructure drive, stressing that road projects are being evenly distributed across the state. “When the governor assumed office in 2019, he promised to democratise infrastructure across all local governments, and that is exactly what is happening,” Akinmade said. “The 16 kilometres being referenced in one axis is just a fraction of the roads delivered statewide.” He added that several roads have recently been commissioned in Abeokuta and other towns, noting that infrastructure development remains a central focus of the administration despite population pressure arising from Ogun State’s proximity to Lagos. Akinmade urged critics to acknowledge the broader scope of ongoing projects, describing claims that little or nothing has been achieved as unfair and misleading. Together, the officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming road infrastructure across Ogun State, with the target of reaching at least 2,000 kilometres of completed roads before the administration winds down. _____ Hon. The exercise, which is expected to take place at the ward level, is aimed at strengthening the party structure by ensuring that only committed and active members remain in leadership positions. According to an internal directive, the review will focus on seven major guidelines approved by Governor Abiodun, who is the leader of the party in the state. Stakeholders have been instructed to review the existing ward exco list and make adjustments based on the following criteria: 1. Deceased Members: Any ward executive who has died is to be removed and replaced accordingly. 2. Inactive and Docile Members: Executives who have shown little or no commitment to party activities and have been largely inactive are to be replaced with more vibrant members. 3. Special Circumstances: The guidelines also provide room for special circumstances that may require adjustments outside the listed categories, subject to proper consultation and approval. The exercise is seen as part of efforts by the Governor Abiodun-led administration to ensure a vibrant and responsive party structure at the grassroots level ahead of future political activities. OGUN APC ENDORSES PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR SECOND TERM Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will inaugurate what is described as the first-of-its-kind party secretariat in Southern Nigeria within the next five months. Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing construction at the secretariat located along the Oke-Mosan axis of Abeokuta, Abiodun revealed that the facility, expected to be completed by July 2026, will accommodate about 2,000 vehicles, feature a 1,000-seat auditorium, and provide befitting offices for members of the State Working Committee. According to the governor, the project symbolizes unity, strength, and resilience, reflecting members’ collective commitment to sustaining APC ideals in Ogun State. He explained that his administration’s legacy would be incomplete without establishing a modern convergence centre where party members can regularly meet to deliberate, celebrate milestones, and chart a common political direction. At the party’s Expanded Stakeholders Strategic Meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun APC leaders unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. Governor Abiodun praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold and necessary decisions that rescued Nigeria from economic collapse. He highlighted the removal of fuel subsidy and the foreign exchange subsidy on May 29, 2023, as landmark steps toward sustainable economic recovery. According to him, the reforms have resulted in improved fuel availability, declining inflation, a stabilising naira, renewed investor confidence, and foreign reserves reportedly rising to about $45 billion. He also referenced major infrastructure initiatives such as the 700-kilometre coastal highway and the 1,000-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, stating that Nigeria is once again attracting significant investment. The governor further cited achievements within Ogun State, including over 7,000 housing units, new primary healthcare centres, youth and women empowerment initiatives, and the commencement of commercial oil drilling in Ogun Waterside by NNPCL. He disclosed plans, with federal backing, to establish a major dairy and cattle ranch in Ipokia Local Government Area and Yewa South. Abiodun pledged to ensure a smooth and transparent transition at the end of his tenure and reiterated his support for President Tinubu, describing the endorsement as strategic and necessary to consolidate ongoing reforms through 2031. _____________________________ The need to review the administration of criminal justice as a panacea to decongestion of the NIGERIA CORRECTIONAL CENTRES By The National Director of R[b]ight Thinkers Global Initiatives a.k.a. OSULARU Professor Babatunde AyanfeOluwa Olabosipo Folawe Osularu emphasized the importance of ensuring that names on O’Level certificates — WAEC, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB correspond exactly with the name on the National Identification Number (NIN). He warned that discrepancies could create complications during registrations and official processes. According to him, changes of name on WAEC require a court affidavit, payment of ₦35,000, a school letter on headed paper, a written application, and a photo album. For NECO, the cost is ₦65,000 and above, covering both SSCE and GCE. He cautioned against unnecessary name changes, stressing that corrections can be stressful and expensive. Professor Osularu particularly advised women not to alter their father’s surname on official documents after marriage, suggesting instead that marriage certificates should reflect the husband’s name without changing existing academic records. He warned that repeated name changes, especially after marital transitions, could complicate future documentation. He concluded with a strong caution: avoid errors during registration processes and ensure consistency in all official records to prevent long-term difficulties. ____________________________ ADEBUTU PAYS CONDOLENCE VISIT Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu paid a condolence visit to the family of the first civilian Governor of Ogun State, Bisi Onabanjo, following the passing of the matriarch, Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo. He described her as more than a former First Lady but as a pillar of support to her husband, a mother to many, and a sanctuary for the downtrodden. Adebutu urged the family and the people of Ogun State to find comfort in her enduring legacy of peace, love, and selfless service. _________________________ BY SEGUN SHOWUNMI My people of Ogun State, This is our moment to decide what kind of state we want to build. Ogun is the Gateway State and strategically positioned between Lagos and the rest of Nigeria. We host industries, universities, farms, factories, entrepreneurs, and some of the most hardworking people in this nation. And yet, insecurity has crept into our communities. Farmers are afraid in parts of Yewa and Imeko. Travelers worry along major corridors. Kidnapping and armed robbery threaten confidence. Investors calculate risk before committing capital. Families adjust their routines because safety is no longer guaranteed. This is not who we are. Security in Ogun State will not be managed with press statements. It will be built as a system. If given the mandate to lead, I will anchor security reform on four pillars: Identity. Visibility. Consequence. Intelligence. Identity: A comprehensive biometric registration system tied to verified addresses within a standardized digital mapping framework. No property transaction, no state contract, no commercial vehicle registration, no SIM-linked state service without verified identity and address. Visibility: Solar-powered smart lighting and surveillance infrastructure across major corridors from Abeokuta to Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode to Ilishan, Sango to Ota, Atan to Agbara and integrated with emergency response systems. Consequence: Accelerated security and violent crime courts to ensure swift arrest, swift trial, and transparent sentencing. Public performance metrics will track enforcement outcomes. Intelligence: A professional state-owned intelligence coordination service integrating community networks, digital monitoring, financial intelligence cooperation, data analytics, and structured coordination with federal agencies. Ogun State can become the most secure industrial hub in Nigeria but security must be treated as the foundation of economic growth. Identity. Visibility. Consequence. Intelligence. That is the architecture. Equity Must Be Earned: Why Performance Should Shape Political Appointments Otunba Segun Showunmi The Alternative For too long, political appointments in our democracy have been treated as entitlements rather than responsibilities. Representation has been confused with reward, and participation separated from consequence. This imbalance has weakened accountability, discouraged voter engagement, and undermined public trust in governance. It is time to correct that mistake. Representation is a constitutional obligation. Every state and every local government must have a place at the table. That principle is not up for debate. However, representation does not automatically translate into control of the most strategic ministries or influence over critical national decisions. In a democracy, effort must matter. When jurisdictions disengage from the electoral process—failing to mobilize voters, invest in political organization, or take ownership of the democratic moment—yet later receive the most powerful positions in government, the message becomes dangerously clear: participation is optional, but reward is guaranteed. That message must end. Governance should reflect performance. Those who deliver electoral results, who do the hard work of mobilization, persuasion, and turnout, should have a stronger voice in shaping the administration that follows. This is not punishment; it is accountability. It is how serious systems function. A performance-based approach to appointments will restore discipline to our politics. Jurisdictions that deliver the strongest electoral outcomes should enjoy priority consideration in the allocation of strategic ministries—provided their nominees meet clearly defined standards of competence and integrity. Merit remains non-negotiable. Numbers alone do not appoint leaders; qualified people do. Critics may argue that this approach risks exclusion. The opposite is true. It strengthens inclusion by tying it to responsibility. Every state and local government retains representation, but influence is earned through engagement. This model encourages voter participation, strengthens grassroots party structures, and aligns political rewards with democratic effort. We must also reject the myth that some parts of the country lack capable human resources. Talent exists everywhere. What has been lacking is the political will to recognize, develop, and deploy it fairly. “Capacity” must no longer serve as an excuse for imbalance or inefficiency. Democracy thrives when citizens believe their participation matters. A system that rewards effort, discipline, and results sends a powerful message: your vote counts not only on election day, but in how the country is governed afterward. The era of automatic rewards is over. Equity must be earned. Merit must be enforced. Performance must matter. That is how we rebuild trust—and that is how democracy works. --- APC Solidarity Walk – PBAT/DA 2027 Agenda All APC faithful, stakeholders, youth leaders, and party loyalists in Ikenne Local Government are hereby invited to participate in a Solidarity Walk in support of progressive leadership and continuity. Leadership in Action: Hon. Lanre Edun Restores Unity and Stability in Abeokuta South APC Ward 8 Hon. Lanre Edun has once again demonstrated outstanding leadership capacity and political maturity by decisively intervening in the internal misunderstanding that recently threatened the unity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta South Ward 8. His timely and strategic involvement reaffirmed his reputation as a dependable leader who prioritizes peace, cohesion and the collective strength of the party. The crisis, which involved the Ward Chairman, Hon. Mukaila Gboguniyi and other key party stakeholders like Hon. Semi’u Esanuomoyin, Chief Showunmi, Hon. Ayo Adebesin (Ward Secretary) and Hon. Suraju Onibuore (Vice Chairman) which had led to the emergence of factional ward meetings. This division created confusion among party members and weakened the sense of direction and unity within the ward. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Hon. Lanre Edun swiftly convened an emergency reconciliation meeting on 10th February 2026 at Kemta, Idi-Aba. The meeting was deliberately structured to pacify aggrieved parties, foster dialogue and realign all stakeholders toward a common goal and for the progress and unity of APC Ward 8 Abeokuta South During the meeting, Hon. Edun emphasized the importance of internal harmony, mutual respect and adherence to party structure. He appealed to all leaders to put personal differences aside and work collectively in the interest of the party and its members. His calm but firm approach helped to de-escalate tensions and opened the door for reconciliation and renewed cooperation. The intervention successfully curtailed the factional activities that had been distracting party faithful and creating uncertainty about leadership legitimacy within the ward. More importantly, it restored confidence among members and reinforced a unified leadership structure capable of driving the party’s vision forward. Hon. Lanre Edun’s actions stand as a clear testament to his competence, reliability and unwavering commitment to party unity. At a time when decisive leadership was required, he rose to the occasion and proving once again that true leadership is measured not by position alone, but by the ability to unite people, resolve conflicts and strengthen institutions.

OGUN @50: REFLECTIONS, TRIBUTE AND THE DEBATE FOR THE FUTURE OF THE GATEWAY STATE. ABEOKUTA• Ogun State has entered its Golden Jubilee with pride, reflection and renewed debate about its future, as leaders, institutions, political actors and traditional authorities mark fifty years since the state’s creation on February 3, 1976. Across the Gateway State, tributes poured in to celebrate five decades of resilience, progress, and promise, even as critical voices used the milestone to question the direction of governance and development. In a statewide address to commemorate the anniversary, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun described the Golden Jubilee as “a defining moment to look back with gratitude and look ahead with renewed purpose.” He noted that Ogun has evolved from modest beginnings into a major hub for industry, education, and innovation, driven by the sacrifices and vision of past administrations. To enable residents to fully participate in the celebrations, the governor declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday. Activities across the state included thanksgiving services, cultural exhibitions and the unveiling of key development projects. The jubilee attracted high-profile goodwill messages and appearances from elder statesmen, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, who joined an interfaith thanksgiving and commended Ogun’s steady progress in education, housing, healthcare and agriculture. Cultural voices also lent their admiration. Popular actor and cultural advocate Lateef Adedimeji described Ogun as a “gateway to excellence,” praising its rich heritage and intellectual influence while expressing confidence in the state’s future under the current leadership. The business community echoed similar sentiments. The Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA) said the Golden Jubilee reflects strong economic foundations, noting Ogun’s emergence as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial and commercial destinations. The chamber, however, urged deeper public-private partnerships to sustain and expand economic opportunities. At official events marking the anniversary, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, stressing the need to balance infrastructure, human capital, and enterprise so growth reaches every corner of the state. A CONTRASTING VOICE: “OGUN IS NOT UNDERDEVELOPED, IT’S UNDER-GOVERNED Amid the celebrations, political actor Otunba Segun Showunmi struck a contrasting tone, declaring his intention to lead Ogun State and arguing that the state’s biggest challenge is not lack of resources but lack of purposeful governance. In a strongly worded statement, Showunmi said his ambition is anchored on a development philosophy he calls “Awolowo 2.0”—a leadership model built on long-term planning, strong institutions, and measurable public value. He criticised what he described as “entitlement politics,” where power is pursued through inherited influence rather than competence and vision. “Ogun is not poor. It is under-governed,” he said. “With our proximity to Lagos and our strong manufacturing base, this state should be competing with the best-performing economies in Nigeria. Instead, we are growing by accident, not by design.” Showunmi noted that Ogun generates between ₦80 billion and ₦100 billion annually in Internally Generated Revenue and hosts major industrial parks and logistics hubs. Yet, he described the coexistence of multinational factories with decaying roads, weak urban planning, and poor public services as evidence of leadership failure rather than funding constraints. According to him, much of Ogun’s industrial growth has been a spillover from Lagos, driven by congestion and rising land costs, rather than a deliberate strategy by Ogun itself. He cited key corridors such as Agbara–Atan–Igbesa, Ota–Abeokuta, Sagamu, and Ijebu Ode as economic lifelines whose poor condition undermines productivity and investor confidence. “Ogun still behaves like a frontier state, not a mature industrial hub,” he said, faulting the absence of binding long-term development plans that survive changes in government. Outlining his alternative, Showunmi said Awolowo 2.0 would focus on legally binding master plans, ring-fencing IGR for critical infrastructure, enforcing industrial clustering and zoning, and building institutions stronger than individuals. “Ogun does not need miracles. It needs discipline,” he said. “Until we confront governance failure honestly, no number of factories or revenue figures will change the daily reality of our people.” OGEPA BOSS APPLAUDS REFORMS, CALLS FOR SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES Adding to the Golden Jubilee reflections, the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kenny Bello, congratulated the people of Ogun on what he described as “five decades of resilience, growth, and promise.” Bello praised Governor Abiodun for what he called a “bold and purposeful drive” to reposition Ogun as a leading industrial and investment destination, citing improvements in infrastructure, investment climate, and institutional reforms. “Ogun’s rise as a preferred destination for industries and investors is not accidental,” Bello said. “It reflects deliberate leadership and a clear vision.” He also paid tribute to past military and civilian governors whose efforts, he said, laid the foundation for the state’s present progress, noting that Ogun has produced outstanding leaders, scholars, and industrialists of national and global relevance. While commending government efforts, Bello urged citizens to see development as a shared responsibility. “Development is not the duty of government alone,” he said. “Every citizen must contribute to peace, unity, and sustainable growth.” HONORING TRADITIONAL : A MONARCH AT70 Beyond politics and policy, the Golden Jubilee season also became a moment to celebrate traditional leadership. Hon. (Dr.) Kehinde Ayodeji Bello (KAB), SSA/GM of OGEPA, extended warm felicitations to His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrasaq Adesina Adenugba, Okokodameji II, the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye Kingdom, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Describing the milestone as “a scoreboard of impact and divine grace,” Bello praised the monarch’s reign for its wisdom, stability, and deep respect for tradition, noting his commitment to peace, youth development, and communal harmony. “Seventy years is not just longevity, but relevance,” he said, adding that Ago-Iwoye Kingdom has become more cohesive and progressive under the Oba’s stewardship. He prayed for continued good health, strength, and wisdom for the monarch, describing him as a custodian of culture, a father to all, and a steady voice in challenging times. LOOKING AHEAD As Ogun State turns 50, the voices across the state tell a complex but hopeful story—one of achievements worth celebrating, traditions worth preserving, and governance questions that demand honest answers. Whether through celebration or critique, the central message of the Golden Jubilee remains clear: protect the legacy, strengthen institutions, and stay united in building a future defined by peace, prosperity, and shared progress.

OGUN POLITICS IS GAINING NEW MOMENTUM TOWARDS 2027 Opposition Must Shift from Courtrooms to Voter Engagement, Says Otunba Segun Showunmi Ahead of 2027 Elections Lagos, Nigeria – January 27, 2026 – As Nigeria's political landscape gears up for the 2027 general elections, prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and convener of the opposition movement "The Alternative," Otunba Segun Showunmi, has urged opposition parties to abandon over-reliance on litigation and internal conflicts in favor of strategic voter mobilization and unity. In a strongly worded statement released today, Showunmi argued that the path to power remains open despite recent defections of governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which have consolidated control in several states. He cautioned against the prevailing tendency among opposition figures to respond to such developments with despair, factional infighting, or prolonged court battles. "Governors matter, but they are not the electorate. Courts play a role, but they are not a substitute for politics," Showunmi wrote. "In a democracy of over 90 million registered voters, power ultimately rests with the people. As long as Nigerians can vote, all hope is not lost." Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar and a vocal advocate for democratic reforms, criticized the opposition's current approach, describing it as a "self-inflicted wound." He pointed out that energy spent on leadership tussles, factional disputes, and relitigating past elections diverts attention from essential tasks such as building coalitions, strengthening grassroots structures, and persuading undecided voters. "Nigerians are watching, and many are exhausted," he noted. "They are not inspired by press statements that sound like complaints, nor by platforms that exist only to protest the ruling party’s excesses. An opposition that defines itself solely by grievance cannot govern; it can only lament." Hon. We are rightly enjoined to pray for our leaders, not as a ceremonial obligation, but in sober recognition of the extraordinary institutional burdens they bear. Leadership at the level of the state is never merely personal; it is historical, civilizational, and structural. It carries the accumulated weight of institutions, the pressures of the present, and the obligations owed to generations yet to come. The recent visit to the Republic of Türkiye must therefore be situated within this broader strategic and institutional context. At a time of pronounced global flux, the international system is undergoing a profound reordering. Long-standing assumptions that sustained post–Cold War stability are giving way under the strain of geopolitical competition, economic realignment, and security recalibration. Traditional powers particularly within Europe, our natural neighbors by history and proximity are experiencing a transformation of a magnitude not witnessed since the Westphalian settlement that shaped the modern state system. In such an environment, responsible statecraft demands strategic diversification, pragmatic engagement, and the deliberate strengthening of multilateral relationships beyond inherited alignments. Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous nation and a pivotal regional actor, cannot afford the comfort of diplomatic inertia. Engagements such as the Türkiye visit signal an understanding that national interest in this era must be pursued through adaptive, forward-looking foreign policy architecture. That President Bola Ahmed Tinubu discerned the strategic value of this engagement and acted upon it reflects attentiveness to the demands of contemporary governance. Public commentary may occasionally fixate on the incidental or the symbolic, but institutions endure on substance rather than spectacle. History does not measure leadership by momentary missteps; it measures it by clarity of purpose, steadiness under scrutiny, and the courage to proceed when responsibility demands action. The joint press conference, in this regard, offered more than diplomatic formality. It revealed composure rooted in experience, confidence anchored in responsibility, and candor befitting a leader conscious of Nigeria’s place within an evolving international system. These are the quiet virtues that sustain credibility in bilateral and multilateral engagements alike. This letter is therefore offered as a note of institutional acknowledgment. To preside over a complex polity while navigating a volatile global environment is an immense undertaking. It is a burden borne not by office alone, but by judgment, intellect, and an enduring commitment to the national interest. When a leader slips, it is responsibility understood, embraced, and carried with courage that lifts him. Such moments deserve recognition, not as personal triumphs, but as affirmations of purposeful governance. I will end with a Yoruba song by King Sunny Ade Ota mi ma yo mi ti mo ba subu, ti emi ba subu e mi a dide. Akanni Omo Olodo Ide, Aja o ni ji mo Ologbo le se. Ewo. Respectfully, Otunba Segun Showunmi The Alternative. A ROYAL BIRTHDAY FELICITATION TO RTRD. GEN. AWOSANYA. I extend my warmest congratulations and heartfelt best wishes to Rtd. Gen. Hon Wale Adebanjo Awa Ijebu Ogun, World Bank Invest Over ₦5bn in Women Empowerment, Economic Recovery — Abiodun …says State Electricity Distribution Company to boost power supply soon The Ogun State Government and the World Bank Group have jointly invested over ₦5 billion in women-focused empowerment and livelihood initiatives over the past six years, Governor Dapo Abiodun has disclosed. The governor made this known on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the World Bank Group, led by its Vice President, Ms. Galina Vincelette, at his office in Abeokuta. Governor Abiodun said the investment was deployed through the World Bank–supported Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) and the state’s domesticated empowerment scheme, Oko’Owo Dapo, which was established after the success of the initial programme. According to him, the Nigeria for Women Project, implemented through Women Affinity Groups (WAGs), has significantly transformed the socio-economic lives of women across the state. “The programme has deepened financial inclusion, strengthened social cohesion, and equipped women with leadership and basic accounting skills. “About ₦3 billion was disbursed under the World Bank-supported initiative, while the Ogun State Government complemented it with another ₦2 billion. In total, roughly ₦5 billion has been invested in this impactful livelihood programme,” the governor said. He added that the state government subsequently launched Oko’Owo Dapo to sustain and expand the gains of the initiative, noting that the programme has so far empowered about 55,000 women across Ogun State. Governor Abiodun also highlighted the achievements of OGCARES — the Ogun State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme — describing it as a critical intervention that strengthened household resilience and supported food system recovery during and after the pandemic. On the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), the governor said the programme has recorded measurable progress in skills acquisition, agricultural productivity, and land administration reforms. “We have significantly increased the speed of issuing Certificates of Occupancy. “Under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), which focuses on connecting farms to markets, we are currently upgrading about 209 kilometres of rural roads. Improved rural access reduces transportation costs and enhances agricultural productivity,” he stated. The governor further disclosed that Ogun State would soon commission its Electricity Distribution Company, as part of deliberate efforts to improve power supply and stimulate industrial growth. He said the state is pursuing multiple Independent Power Projects (IPPs) and has already established the Ogun State Electricity Board, following recent constitutional amendments empowering states to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity. “Power remains the biggest enabler of economic activities. We are working with strategic partners to generate and distribute electricity within the state. “We are also on the verge of constructing mini-grids across Ogun State to meet our growing energy needs,” Abiodun said. Speaking earlier, the World Bank Group Vice President, Ms. Galina Vincelette, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting Ogun State and Nigeria in addressing key development challenges. She said the Bank would continue to promote public-private solutions, particularly in the electricity sector, while strengthening investments in human capital development. Also speaking, the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Matthew Verghis, disclosed that the Bank is preparing a new Country Partnership Framework for Nigeria, with strong emphasis on job creation. “Creating jobs is the most sustainable way to reduce poverty and raise incomes. Our existing programmes, including the Nigeria for Women Project, will continue. “Nigeria currently has a $17 billion World Bank portfolio, one of the largest globally, and our support remains strong,” Verghis said.
