Politics / Threats On The Life Of Odoh Chike Nnamdi A Human Right Activist by brezzyfresh(m): 10:31pm On Oct 03, 2018
Reactions have continued to trail the reported threats on the life a human rights activist, Nnamdi Chike Odoh. The latest reaction is coming from a civil rights group, Citizens Center for the Protection of Human Rights. The group in a statement signed by Lekia Barisua, the groups, Head, Campaigns and Advocacy, condemned the threats on the life of Nnamdi Chike Odoh, as barbaric and an infringement on his right to expression.
The condemnation is coming on the heels of a similar reaction from the Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, which had earlier condemned the threats to the life of the public interest advocate and activist, by suspected killer herdsmen, over his avowed opposition to open cattle grazing and establishment of grazing reserves in the south south and south eastern states of Nigeria.

Available reports indicate that Mr. Odoh Chike Nnamdi has been in the forefront of campaigns against the activities of killer herdsmen, who has since the dawn of the Buhari presidency, established a genocidal reign of terror on hapless farmers and unarmed inhabitants of the both north central and south eastern regions of Nigeria in a move that has being widely interpreted as ethnic cleansing and forcible land grab.
On the attempt by the Federal Government to forcibly acquire land in the southern and middle belt states as grazing reserves for Fulani herdsmen, despite opposition from farming communities, Odoh Chike Nnamdi , rallied farming communities to protest against the proposed grazing reserves , which has been temporarily shelved, due to the public out cry.

The human rights groups believe that the threats to the life of Odoh Chike Nnamdi , may not be unconnected to his activities, as the killer herdsmen have been known to specifically target outspoken and critical voices against their activities.
The groups revealed that Odoh Chike Nnamdi, has been receiving threats from groups suspected to be fronts for Islamic Fulani groups threatening to eliminate him and his entire family, if he continues his strong advocacy against open grazing of cattle and establishment of grazing reserves in the southern states.

Since the threats became persistent, Odoh Chike Nnamdi, now fears for the safety of his life and that of his family, as the killer herdsmen have been known to have mercilessly hunted down perceived opponents in the past, often wiping our entire communities as was experienced in Ukpabi Nimbo, in Enugu State, Agatu in Benue state and Barking Ladi, in Platue state.

It is estimated that the killer herdsmen who have been ranked as the fourth deadliest terrorist group in the world has killed over 8,000 Nigerians since 2015.
Business / Nigerian National Assembly Summons Topaz Marine Over Breach Of Local Content Law by brezzyfresh(m): 8:27pm On Sep 16, 2018
BREACH OF LOCAL CONTENT LAW: NIGERIAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SUMMONS TOPAZ MARINE

In what is regarded as a flagrant abuse of the Nigerian Local Content Act, the Nigerian National Assembly through its Committee on Public Petitions has summoned the management of the United Arab Emirate - Dubai based Topaz Marine and Energy to appear before it over allegations of abuse and circumvention of the Nigerian Content Act. Topaz Marine has been accused of misrepresenting facts and undermining local laws to enable the global marine company dominate the Nigerian oil and gas maritime business.
Our investigation reveals that Topaz is accused of breaching the express provisions of sections 3 (2) of the Nigerian Local Content Act which states that goods and services of various categories which only wholly or partly owned Nigerian Companies or corporate individuals are given priority in the award of contracts in the oil and gas industry.Especially the deployment of wholly or partly Nigerian marine vessels for offshore logistics contracts.
Topaz which currently operates 12 Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) with International Oil Companies operating in Nigeria such as Chevron, Total, Mobil, SPDC and Agip is said to have provided the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the agency responsible for implementing the Local Content Act with false information regarding the vessels. The vessels which are 100% owned by Topaz Marine and Energy of Dubai – UAE, are illegally flying Nigerian Flags and therefore falsely classified by the Nigerian Content Board under the indigenous category and being awarded contracts as such, thereby shortchanging the real indigenous companies and denying them contract opportunities from the IOCs.
Also summoned by the National Assembly are the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Managing Directors of the IOCs such Chevron, Total, Mobil, SPDC, Agip and Napims who currently engage these Topaz Vessels for their operations in Nigeria.
This summons and investigation is coming at a time two vessels of Topaz Marine and Energy – Topaz Faye and Topaz Seema are currently under arrest and detention for the past months through an order made by a Nigerian Federal High Court over breach of contractual agreements. The order was issued on the 27th July 2018 and the vessels have remained under arrest since then.
Topaz has been accused by several of its partners of flagrantly breaching agreements entered into with them, and of having scant regards for local laws and authorities, hence their litany of issues with different partners.
Business / Company Secures Award Of $2.7million Dollars Against Indorama Petrochemicals Ltd by brezzyfresh(m): 8:19pm On Sep 16, 2018
COMPANY SECURES AWARD OF $2.7 MILLION DOLLARS AGAINST INDORAMA PETROCHEMICALS LIMITED

In a protracted dispute between a consulting company – Cutra and Indorama Petrochemicals Limited over a $5 million dollars agreed as consultancy services between both companies, an arbitration panel has finally awarded the sum of $2.7 million dollars in favour of Cutra against Indorama Petrochemicals. The consultancy services where rendered in favour of Toyo Japan to secure the release of officials detained over disputes between Indorama and Dangote group with regards to contractual services rendered by Toyo Japan to both companies in relation to their proposed fertiliser plants.

The panel sitting in Abuja – Nigeria found that there was actually a contract between both parties and amounts outstanding in favour of Cutra International and thus awarded the sum after a painstaking deliberation. Indorama Petrochemicals has filed an appeal against the decision of the panel to an Abuja High Court to frustrate the payment of the debt to Cutra.Cutra has already commenced garnishee proceedings to attach Indorama assets to enforce the decision of the arbitration panel.
It could be recalled that Cutra had earlier filed a criminal complaint to the Inspector General of Police against Indorama for forgery and concocted invoices issued to Toyo –Japan by Indorama in the name of Cutra without remitting same to Cutra. Cutra in the petition highlighted a instances where Indorama forged and inserted names in invoices issued to Toyo as a staff of Cutra when actually Cutra had no such staff. This case is currently been investigated by the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigerian Police.
Politics / Ekpeye Youths Insist On Retaining Rivers West Senatorial Seat by brezzyfresh(m): 10:36pm On Sep 04, 2018
EKPEYE YOUTHS INSIST ON RETAINING RIVERS WEST SENATORIAL SEAT

Youths of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality under the umbrella of Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC) worldwide say they have uncovered plot by certain political interests in the state to deny Ekpeye people their right to retain the Rivers West Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly come 2019.
In a statement issued at Ahoada after an emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council, the President General of Ekpeye Youth Congress Comrade Ogboka Umeda said information available to the youth body indicates that some certain political interests in Rivers state and Rivers West Senatorial District in particular have perfected plans to impose candidates from other tribes as Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District in the National Assembly as against the current arrangement which he said remains the turn of the Ekpeye people.

Comrade Ogboka Umeda who noted that "despite the fact that Ekpeye is the largest ethnic group in Rivers West Senatorial District, certain powerful interests in the state have overtime consistently denied Ekpeye the opportunity to produce the Senator for the district". The EYC President General noted that "this long marginalization and oppression was only recently addressed in 2015 when an Ekpeye son in the person of Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu was elected under the platform of the PDP" which according to him "Distinguished Senator Ideozu has just spent few years due to the nullification of the elections by the tribunal and subsequent rerun which saw Senator Ideozu returning to the senate after over a year had been wasted between the nullification and the rerun which in actual terms left him with barely three years at the senate.

Comrade Umeda maintained that while other tribes like the Ogba with Senators F.J Ellah, Victor Odili and Wilson Ake together occupied the seat for about 12 years, the Kalabaris with Senator Denton West and Senator Martins Yellowe occupied the seat for not less than 12 years also, emphasizing that now that it is the turn of Ekpeye, they must be allowed to complete their 8 years tenure irrespective of the party.
He noted that the recent defection of Senator Ideozu from PDP to APC notwithstanding, both the APC and the PDP must choose their candidates for the 2019 elections from Ekpeye as anything short of that will be resisted by the people.

He used the opportunity to warn sons and daughters of Ekpeye who have offered themselves as willing tools to be used by anti Ekpeye forces to continue to deny Ekpeye their right and cause confusion amongst the people to desist forthwith as doing so will attract the wrath of the Ekpeye people, for gone are the days when outsiders use Ekpeye people to cause disaffection amongst the themselves to achieve their selfish interest.

The President General of Ekpeye Youth, the umbrella body of the entire Ekpeye youths, Comrade Ogboka Umeda called on political parties who seek the support of Ekpeye people to concede to Ekpeye their right to retain the senate in 2019 to fully complete their tenure.

Politics / Ekpeye People Besiege Rt. Hon Chibudom Nwuche; Urge Him To Run For Senate by brezzyfresh(m): 10:28pm On Sep 04, 2018
EKPEYE PEOPLE BESIEGE NWUCHE; URGE HIM TO RUN FOR SENATE

As political activities towards the 2019 general elections heightens, opinion leaders of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality in Rivers have besieged the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon Prince Chibudom Nwuche to demand that he represent them at the red chambers of the National Assembly as Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District.
In their separate visits, the opinion leaders, chiefs, elders, women and youths that cut across party lines, trooped in their numbers to Nwuche’s Port Harcourt residence and called on him to come out and contest as he is the candidate of the Ekpeye people and Rivers West in general.

Speaking during one of the visits, High Chief Kroham Joel told Prince Nwuche that they were in his residence to confirm rumours milling around that he said he is “no longer interested in the senate but rather to concentrate on his businesses” with the reason of having contested twice but was robbed of his victory by party leaders in the state”. Chief Kroham told Nwuche that the message from Ekpeye people is that he should forget the past and come to the aid of the people who are in dare need of a voice and effective representation at the National Assembly which according to him, “you are the only one for now who can give Ekpeye the needed representation” especially now that it is the turn of the Ekpeye tribe to produce the senator of the Rivers West senatorial District”
Chief Kroham Joel who was one time President General of the Ekpeye Apex Socio-Cultural Organisation – Uzugbani Ekpeye Logbo, told Nwuche that the delegation which cuts across party lines, represents the general wish of the Ekpeye people who insist that it does not matter under which party platform, but that Nwuche should answer the call of the people and run for the Senate which according to him, is certain that he will emerge victorious this time around and his presence in the senate will end the long marginalization and suffering of the Ekpeye people. Chief Kroham regretted it is so unfortunate that despite the fact that Ekpeye is the third largest ethnic group in the entire Rivers State and the largest in the Rivers West Senatorial District, they have suffered marginalization occasioned by “so called power brokers in the state who do not wish the Ekpeye people well but determined to subjugate the people at their selfish interest, emphasizing that this time around the people have resolved to take their destiny in their hands to ensure that Nwuche represents them at the Senate.

In another development, Hon Blessing Agbi, a former chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, told Nwuche that it is the yearnings of the Ekpeye political class and the masses that he contest and represent the people in the Senate come 2019. He said the Ekpeye people have resolved to set party affiliations aside and support him massively to realize their ambition that will change the political fortunes of the Ekpeye people for the better.

Also speaking, High Chief (Engr) Samuel Ekiye maintained that “now that it is the turn of the Ekpeye people to occupy the position of the Senator for Rivers West Senatorial District, all hands must be on deck to ensure the realization of this objective”. According to Engr Ekiye, other smaller tribes in the district like Ogba and kalabari have been senators for twelve years each making a total of twenty four years, so Ekpeye must be allowed to exercise their right to run fully their tenure of at least 8 years, stressing that any party that wants the support of the Ekpeye people must first concede to the rights of the Ekpeye people to occupy the Senate come 2019.

Appealing to Nwuche to consider the interest of Ekpeye and contest, Chief Gowon Okoko, a personal assistant to the Ekpeye Monarch, His Royal Majesty Eze (Flt Lieut) Robinson O. Robinson CON, The Eze Ekpeye Logbo of Ekpeye Kingdom, urged Nwuche not to be dissuaded from politics inspite of the many politically instigate persecutions he has been through in recent times including the target to undermine his businesses by some prominent leaders of the APC in the state who occupy a ministerial position as God will continue to vindicate him and bring to shame his persecutors.

In his responses, Prince Chibudom Nwuche repeated to the delegations that he is done with contesting for Senate having tried twice in 2011 and 2015 and despite winning the primaries by the popular votes of the people, the victory was upturned by party leaders in the state who do not want him over imaginary fears but rather prefer those they regard as “loyal” who eventually go there and do not remember the people. Prince Nwuche pledged to continue to support the Ekpeye course in any manner he could but that this time around his businesses which by the grace of God have sustained him for over sixteen years since he left political office, are of paramount interest to him but that he will ponder over the request of the people.
He urged them to be resolute and ensure that credible and popular candidates emerge to represent them at all elective positions as that is the beauty of democracy as against the politics of godfathersm and imposition of unpopular candidates which has mostly contributed to the underdevelopment of the country and impoverishing the people as those who emerge through imposition do not care about the masses but only about their families and their god fathers.
It would be recalled that Prince Chibudom Nwuche contested the primaries of the Rivers West Senatorial District under the PDP in 2011 and 2015 respectively but despite winning overwhelmingly, the results were later changed by the leadership of the party in the state, a situation that made Nwuche to defect from the PDP where he has been for 16 years to the APC over injustice in the PDP.

Topaz Marine Dubai and Team Offshore Vessels Arrested in Nigeria by Court Order

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has again ordered the arrest of marine vessels belonging to an International marine services company Topaz Energy and Marine which are now being managed by a newly formed entity Team Offshore Ltd, incorporated by the management of Topaz as a means to continue trading in Nigerian waters without fulfilling their obligations to existing local partners over allegations of irregularities including, but not limited to breach of contract and avoidance of accurate reporting to the relevant authorities.
The court issued the arrest warrant for the vessels - Topaz Seema and Topaz Faye in a ruling on the claims by the local company who had filed a claim of over $50 million dollars against Topaz Marine based on a the breach of a business cooperation agreement it had with Topaz, which Topaz Chief Executive Officer - Mr. Rene Knudsen Olsen has consistently reneged on. The protracted disputes had led to the earlier arrest of Topaz Sophie and Seema in December 2017, in a matter between Cutra and Topaz Dubai.
Topaz, under Mr Olsen’s management, has acquired a reputation of not keeping to its obligations and from publicized accounts are heavily leveraged and financed by many financial institutions, including Standard Chartered Bank Dubai. The local partners are alleging fraud in the procurement of a US$500million dollar bond and an investment of US$75m from Standard Chartered Bank, Dubai to procure both additional and refinance already owned vessels. In part and in short during the investment process, Topaz tendered incorrect and falsified documents for the transaction, claiming to be be 60% owners of Topaz Nigeria as managers, when in fact their true holding was 40%.
Mr. Koford-Olsen has also in the opinion of partners shown brazen disrespect for laws of countries in which they operate, and there are indications that the company is being investigated by the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service for several suspicious dealings including invalid accounting and the manipulation of Temporary Import Certificates. The company had, on occasions and in flagrant disregard for court orders, surreptitiously removed arrested vessels from the jurisdiction.
Topaz now has twelve (12) vessels owned by foreign entities, many of which are chartered to the International Oil Companies (IOCs),including Mobil,Total,Chevron etc within the waters of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, against the provisions of the Nigerian Content Act and depriving Nigerian companies with similar vessels patronage from the IOCs. They misrepresented the ownership of the vessels to the Nigerian Content Development Board and secured a category AA rating when all the vessels are owned by foreign shell companies belonging to Topaz Dubai, contrary to the express provisions of the law.A reliable source hinted that the Nigerian content board is investigating this anomaly,as several qualified Nigerian entities whose vessels are lying idle have petitioned the Presidency and the National Assembly about this egregious breach of the law by a foreign company who are manipulating the system, aided by some unscrupulous lagos based lawyers.

Ahead 2019: APDA Woes Chibudom Nwuche for Rivers Governorship.

Information reaching our political desk indicate that one of the newly registered political parties, the Advanced Democratic Peoples Alliance (APDA) has made approaches to the Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche, to contest for the Rivers State governorship on the platform of the party.

APDA, which is widely seen by many as the third force in Nigerian politics, has constantly said that its doors are open to only credible Nigerian young leaders and politicians who boasts unblimished records of service and contributions towards the development of the country.

Sources within the party disclosed that Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, who currently is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is nationally recognised as a politician without blemish, who served as Deputy Speaker of the House if Representatives between 1999 to 2003. The sources disclosed that the APDA has researched Hon. Nwuche and came to the conclusion that not only is he credible, but also widely acceptable in Rivers State.

"Prince Chibudom Nwuche will be a great asset to APDA given his wide acceptance and enormous respect he commands among voters. APDA will be honoured to offer its governorship ticket to such an uncommon politicia", the source said.

When contacted the National Chairmen of the party, Malam Shittu Mohammed and the state chairman, Pastor Warigbani Ezekiel, neither confirmed nor denied the story.

Our sources disclosed that APDA has zero tolerance for godfathers, but will give all members a level playing field. The same source revealed that all the membersof the party are all automatic delegates in the selection of candidates for all elective posts.

“We have no godfathers, we have no moneybags; ours is a level playing field for all members,” the source said.

Our investigations revealed that APDA will likely offer a credible political platform to many politicians in APC and PDP who may likely be scheamed out of the power equation through manipulations and imposition of candidates, for which both parties has become notorious for.

A source who pleaded anonymity diclosed that many credible politicians will be shut out in both APC and PDP as candidates for all positions in the two parties are already known.
" There is nothing like credible free and fair primaries in the two parties. Godfathers have already pencilled down the names of their loyalists for elective positions. Other party members will only be hoodwinked into buying their expensive nomination forms, to enrich party leaders", the source said.

Speaking further the source said, " look at the APC in Rivers State, the party has been destroyed in a battle for supremacy between rival godfathers over who will control allocation of elective positions. The same scenerior is playing out in PDP, where the governor has pocketed the party in Alliance with a coterie of greedy party leaders. People are not happy in PDP but are not speaking out for now. Look at the State Assembly by-election in Port Harcourt Local Government. The candidate of PDP was imposed against all moral and ethical standards. But nobody can complain, because the party now belongs to a few individuals".

As INEC timetable for the sale and purchase of forms kicks in, the coast is clear for credible politicians who might receive a raw deal from APC or PDP to capitalize on the window offered by APDA to test their popularity in the polls and perhaps defeat the APC and PDP juggernauts.
