Nobody is downplaying KDB. You didn't follow the argument from the beginning. Comparing Zidane with KDB was the origin of this argument.
KDB is good, very good. one of the most intelligent midfielders in the world. But he has not done anything to be rated alongside the like of Zidane, Iniesta, Xavi and Ronnie.
I agree you need luck with the national team. Infact, not the national team alone. But then luck or not, your impact should be visible which can't be said of KDB. Argentina lost 3 Copa America finals but everybody was aware of his impact.

KDB plays almost like a second striker or winger most times and though I hail him for his versatility, eye for the final pass and goslscoring. I personally find it hard to rate him above a zidane, xavi or modric that can take a hot game and craft it to their own purpose. KDB also played with the best Belgium golden generation so far but I can't compare it to what a legend like modric did with a smaller croatia.

In a nutshell though, KDB's interpretation of the role has seen him evolve into the Most Elite Chances Creator of his era among midfielders but Zidane remains that guy who oozes elite control and command as the All-time Dictator midfielder of not just his era but any era (arguably).

I didn't watch most of zidane especially when he's was with Juventus and france in the late 90s but from me viewing more as a CAM due to his play, videos and penchant for being mostly the Man with mostly the final passes I believe xavi Hernandez is a better midfield controller than him. Maybe it's because he was mostly a deep lying playmaker in central midfield or him playing for two of the most possession based teams of all time but I've never seen anybody control the game like xavi did. From scanning, to being open for passes to passes both long and short opening even the most stubborn of defences. Note I'm only talking of midfield control not flair. I'll like to please hear your opinion about it.

This Madrid midfield of Kroos, Modric and Valverde is too light against a team like city especially with Kroos as the Dm.

Tchouameni should be starting dm. I just hope it's not too late before ancelotti realises it. Rudiger in that real madrid defence is also not bringing confidence.

If you've followed the argument from the beginning you would have seen where we've been arguing about it's competitiveness not it's position as number 1 so I won't go back to explain to you. Sevilla thrashed you with your record so what's the essence if you are no longer in the competition? Your top 3 premier league teams were beaten by real madrid. I can't recall the last time that has happened in the champions league. Even their second participant that has fallen off barca has more champions league trophies than everybody except liverpool. You can't be claiming most competitive league today when a club is about to have 5 titles in 6 years. The contender is even a former assistant coach of that team.
