You can progress to obtaining the ISO's later 18001:2007 (Safety Mgt Systems) and 14001 (Environ).

HSE is a very interesting career path as you can realign and diversify in a very short space of time with just a few relevant/HSE specific courses. You,ll be amazed. You might even have an upper hand with a linguistics degree as certifications like NEBOSH which is foreign/expatriate-career bound (most of the time) will enhance your marketability, should you choose to work abroad.

I also notice that quite a few number of us deem HSE in a very generic term: Please be reminded that HSE is a discipline on its own. Like Engineering etc. It is segmented into specialty areas like Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Emergency Response, Fire Fighting/Protection and Environment) .

(EMERGENCY and FIRE are offshore related areas and courses which facilitate this includes OPITO and ISTC).

CHOOSE A PATHWAY AND FOLLOW IT THROUGH. GOD HELP US ALL.

HSE as you'd readily appreciate is a very sensitive discipline which ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and policies, protection of workers and management of risk in a controlled manner.

Due to the liability exposure on most companies through loss of lives and compliance complacencies, organizations DO NOT compromise on the experience when it comes to HSE as sanctions and penalties are severely imposed.

Thus, acquiring a firm understanding of audit and risk assessment at an administrative level could help you get your foot through the door as a HSE supervisor. NISP is most probably your ideal starting point.

Salary structure here at Honeywell varies depending on what unit company you work with as the wealth of each unit company varies from industry to industry. e.g. Flourmills turnover is very high and they meet their budget yearly, in comparison to for instance, honeywell skyview estates. for the sake of the honeywell excellence programme though, i started with 105k for 18 months two years ago.
