GamaG: PLEASE, LEARN TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THE LITTLE AND EXPECT MORE. BY INFOS, THIS GOV WILL STILL GIVE US CHRISTMAS BONUS. APPRECIATE HIM. We as teachers must learn to stay neutral and never sing the praises of any politician. Yes, it true that the present incumbent is relatively doing better than the previous incumbent, but that is not enough. Machiavelli once said " do not take by force what you can take by deception". All these politicians are good in one thing-they are well organized, united and know what they want. But we teachers are so disorganized and often time don't know what we want. Can the Christmas bonus and even our salaries for 30 years buy you a car and build you a standard decent house? If you go to other African and Arab countries, you'll see a nursery school teacher driving a nice car to work. It's an aberration for an educated mind to be grateful for a slave wage. We must learn to present a united front and demand for our right. If memory serves me correctly, we are still being owed two to three months arrears of 2016. Should we also be grateful for that?. Having said that, Governor Fubara is doing great. He doesn't have any unkind bone in him. |

emekatex: Ok. However, the paper I read, Rivers State was neither among the states that haven't set up minimum wage committee nor those that have set up the committe. As you can see below.
PUNCH Lite 27 states, FCT yet to set up minimum wage panels 11th August 2024
Minimum wage Minimum wage
Imoleayo Oyedeyi, Olufemi Adediran, Ismaeel Uthman, and Deborah Tolu-Kolawole Kindly share this story:
Twenty-seven states and the Federal Capital Territory have yet to set up committees to implement the recently approved N70,000 minimum wage.
The states are Plateau, Kebbi, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Bayelsa, Delta, Osun, Ekiti, Zamfara, Benue, Enugu, Taraba, Gombe, Kogi, Enugu, Adamawa, Niger, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Cross River and Yobe.
However, seven other states — Kano, Kwara, Ogun, Borno, Jigawa, Ondo, and Abia — have set up implementation committees. Only Lagos and Edo claimed to have started paying the minimum wage.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage into law on July 29, 2024, after meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.
In this report, I noticed Enugu was listed twice which was the same as the other papers I read - no doubt, a clerical error. Could it be Rivers was erroneously replaced by Enugu? Notwithstanding, let's not be too uptight about it. God is in control. Fubara will create a record. |

emekatex: All Nigerian politicians are the same. They can't do people any favour if there's nothing they will benefit from it. The new minimum wage is no longer in the lips of our dear governor. Remember, he said that he will key in IMMEDIATELY the federal government concludes with the negotiations. Now what's happening? I guess the FG is still discussing about the new minimum wage with labour unions. Right? Hmmmm! No politician from Nigeria is a saint. All are selfish and self centered. It was reported in the National Dailies that 27 states are yet to set up a minimum wage committee. Rivers State was not in the list. There's every possibillity that Fubara will pay us the new wage this month. So let's keep our fingers crossed |

Hence, don't bank on what he said. In as much as what you said may be true, let's give governor Fubara the benefit of the doubt. He is generous and does not have an unkind bone in him. More so he was once a civil servant and our stable companion. |

The minimum wage bill was given a speedy hearing and a speedy passage into law by the National Assembly and was speedily assented to by the President. So it goes to show that state governors will also implement it ASAP. I am optimistic that the new minimum wage will be reflected in this month's (August) salary. This is as much as Tinubu could do to calm protesting Nigerians or so he thinks |

I mean Level 12 step 4. Thank you. Your new salary might be about #164,000 or #194,000. It's a toss-up between these two figures. This is only a guestimate. |

I think what we desperately need here is anger management. Why work yourselves up for nothing? If a piece of information is true or fake, does it really matter to an educated mind?. Although I'm not trying to glorify the act of peddling fake news, but that's not something one should work himself into a lather for. Please let's take care of our mental and emotional health. Where is the 84k arrears you openly declared that we should expect it this month...? I wonder how you feel spreading information to disturb the sensibility of pressured and battered Nigerian workers who NLC and TUC recently abandoned to 62k as minimum wage? Why are you doing this?
Well... Let me give one week to see whether your declaration will come through, else Nigerian workers will gather and do meeting for you. Buck up, guy. NLC haven't abandoned us yet. They are still on it. Let's wait for the outcome of the meeting between the President and the Governors today. |

Chibuking81: To be realistic, comparing with dollar new minimum wage should be between #70,000 to #90,000. Labour should forget about N615,000. If federal government pay that amount dollar will rise to #10,000 per a dollar.
Dollar was #460 per dollar in May 2023, before President Tinubu took over. If dollar stands at #1,380 per a dollar (i.e. X3) minimum wage should be #90,000 If dollar stands at #1,150 per a dollar (i.e. X2.5) minimum wage should be #75,000 If dollar stands at #960 per a dollar (i.e. X2) minimum wage should be #60,000 Then there will be an agreement that dollar should be regulated to stand at a particular point in which minimum wage will be fixed.
President Tinubu approves whatever you ask him to approve, but will not implement it. It is better they agreed on what he can implement after approval, and should make sure that the state governors agreed on the said new minimum wage, very important before signing into law. It is a non-sequitur to compare minimum wage to the exchange rate of the dollars. Dollars and minimum wage are not correlative, we know that from our basic economics. While exchange rate is dependent on international trade between strategic partners, the latter should be index-linked. It will be unconscionable for Federal Government to pay its workers a slave wage, a wage they are aware will not sustain workers for even a week considering the parlous state of Nigeria's economy. Yes I admit Labour is on the high side but let FG come up with their own counter- offer; that is what we expect from them, instead of stalling for time. But a minimum wage of between 250000 and 350000 wouldn't hurt- FG and state can afford it. After all South Africa's minimum wage is about 350000. |
