Islam for Muslims / What Does Qur'an And Hadiths Say About Blacks by burgerking: 12:43am On Jun 28, 2015
SO, what does the Qur’an and Hadiths say about black people?
Sahih Moslem vol. 9, p. 46-47. “If you have a sexual dream about a black woman, beware of coming diseases to follow. Blacks are "pug-nosed slaves".
Ibn Timiyya, Vol. 31, pages 376-377 "A man married a maid-slave who bore him a child. Would that child be free or would he be an owned slave?" "Her child whom she bore from him would be the property of her master according to all the Imams (heads of the four Islamic schools of law) because the child follows the (status) of his mother in freedom or slavery. If the child is not of the race of Arabs (black), then he is definitely an owned slave according to the scholars, but the scholars disputed (his status) among themselves if he was from the Arabs - whether he must be enslaved or not because when A'isha (Muhammad's wife) had a maid-slave who was an Arab, Muhammad said to A'isha, `Set this maid free because she is from the children of Ishmael."
Qur'an 9:97 The Arabs of the desert (blacks) are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy, and most fitted to be in ignorance of the command which Allah hath sent down to His Messenger: But Allah is All-knowing, All-Wise.
Sahih Bukhari 9:89:256 Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle said, "You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin."
Sahih Bukhari 1:11:662 Narrated Anas bin Malik : The Prophet said, "Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief."
Tabari II 11 Shem, the son of Noah was the father of the Arabs, the Persians, and the Greeks; Ham was the father of the Black Africans; and Japheth was the father of the Turks and of Gog and Magog who were cousins of the Turks. Noah prayed that the prophets and apostles would be descended from Shem and kings would be from Japheth. He prayed that the African’s color would change so that their descendants would be slaves to the Arabs and Turks.
Tabari II 21 Ham [Africans] begat all those who are black and curly-haired, while Japheth [Turks] begat all those who are full-faced with small eyes, and Shem [Arabs] begat everyone who is handsome of face with beautiful hair. Noah prayed that the hair of Ham’s descendants would not grow beyond their ears, and that whenever his descendants met Shem’s, the latter would enslave them.

Depends on the Registrar
If i were you, I will contact the registrar to find out what are their requirements as i have noticed they all do not have the same requirements.
Things to note
1. If you bought through an IPO, the registrar will have your signature, if you bought through the floor, your stockbroker has to send them your signature specimen. You will need to visit them and sign some forms. Then your stockbroker will submit the form(s) to the respective registrars.
2. After 1 above is complete, you need to fill an E-dividend form (from the registrar), which will need to be signed by your bank at no cost to you. The bank will stamp your passport photograph and sign on the mandate. The process at this stage is complete for most registrars except for their own internal process which may include non-mandatory services like (Dividend alerts, a portal for monitoring your dividends at a resonable cost). I find most of the services a duplication of what I already get for free so I dont bother.
3. Some registrars in addition to a completely filled mandate might ask for a bank confirmation + dividend manadate in 2 above, this costs around 2k in FBN for each registrar. Also, in a case where the signature specimen you provided in 1 above and the divividend mandate in 2 above are not the same (irregular), most registrars will ask you for a bank confirmation.
So in reality, you may need one and two alone or all three depending on the situation and the registrar's disposition. The only way to know is to communicate with them.
I am in the process of activating the e-mandate process of dividend payments. I have completed all the forms and got by bank to sign the e-mandate forms.
My stock broker has also asked me to complete and sign a 'SHARE TRANSFER FORM'. I am not transferring my stocks I just want my dividends paid directly into my bank account.
Please does anyone know if I also need to complete a "share transfer forms' to facilitate this transaction

Business / Dangote, Takes Cement Empire To Asia by burgerking: 1:47pm On Jun 18, 2015
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-17/africa-s-richest-man-dangote-takes-his-cement-empire-to-asia

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, says he’s expanding his cement empire to Asia and it will be operational in 30 months.

The 58-year-old Nigerian billionaire said Dangote Cement Plc should complete a factory in Nepal by the end of 2017. It has received 90 percent of the regulatory approvals needed to start construction in the south Asian nation hit by two earthquakes this year, he said.

“It’s going to be one of the first factories for us to build outside our comfort zone, outside Africa,” Dangote, wearing white traditional robes, said in a June 16 interview at his office in Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos. Further expansion beyond Africa mainly “will happen through acquisition,” he said. Dangote, who has never visited Nepal, will invest $400 million in the country to build a cement plant with a capacity of as much as 2 million metric tons. He’s also eyeing South America and surveying for limestone in Brazil, where he registered a company two years ago.

Nepal’s government estimates reconstruction costs from April’s quake, which killed thousands, alone will exceed $10 billion, even before the country was hit by a separate 7.3 magnitude temblor last month.

“It will be a major boost for them, especially with what happened,” Dangote said. “They don’t produce cement at the moment, they import mainly from India.”

Growth Story

There is room for Dangote to move into Nepal, said Andy Gboka, a fund manager at Bellevue Asset Management AG, which manages more than $5 billion and holds Dangote Cement shares.

“There is not enough production capacity and unfortunately you saw what happened with the earthquake and the infrastructure that was damaged,” Gboka said by phone from Zurich. “Even though this is coming from a negative event, there is a strong growth story in the Nepal region.”

The tycoon, with a net worth of $15.4 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, has made the vast majority of his fortune in African cement production. He also has interests including sugar and more recently oil refineries in Nigeria.

Dangote’s charity gave $1 million to Nepal’s government after the deadly earthquakes. He said he has made more than 20 billion naira ($100 million) of donations in more than two years, mainly in African countries such as Nigeria, Niger, Kenya, Tanzania and Ebola-hit nations in West Africa.

Charity Donations

He denied that his foundation gave only to countries where he has business interests, citing a $2 million donation given to Pakistan in 2010 through the United Nations World Food Programme after the country was hit by flooding.

“I’ve only been to Pakistan on transit maybe 20 years ago,” Dangote said.

Dangote Cement has been expanding in new African markets to tap demand for building materials as governments invest in infrastructure. The company is planning $1 billion in capital expenditure this year to increase capacity from 29 million tons.

His moves to dominate the African market haven’t been without some snags. Dangote said the building of a $350 million cement plant in Niger, announced in 2013, was delayed after some “internal fault” at the company, which has been addressed. He declined to elaborate further. Construction on the Niger factory will start this year and will take 26 months to complete, he said.

Dangote has also seen his wealth decline $3.1 billion this year as the share price in his cement business has fallen 13 percent in the same period, more than the Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index, which has slumped 3.4 percent. Nigeria’s local currency, the naira, is down 7.8 percent so far in 2015 against the dollar.

“In the future we will try and replicate the other businesses outside Nigeria,” Dangote said, referring to his interests other than cement. “But we have so much we’re invested in right now, so we want to continue with just cement, cement, cement for the next two, three years.”

Foreign Affairs / Re: Israelites Are Murderers by burgerking: 3:57pm On Jul 21, 2014
Over the past 50+ years, around 10,000,000 Muslims have died in violent conflict. Of this number, over 90% were killed by Muslims themselves, in a Shia vs Sunni conflicts . Of the rest, over 90% were killed by non-Muslims, defending themselves against Muslim attackers.
During this same period, something like 72,000 have died in the Arab-Israeliconflict. 1/3 of them were Jews and 2/3 were Arabs. 90% of these Arabs were not Palestinians but Egyptian and Syrian soldiers died in 1948/67/73 wars.
In September of 1970, around 20,000 Palestinians were killed by the entirely Muslim Royal Jordanian Army. Many times more than all the Palestinians killed by Israel since 1948.
There wasn't a single Arab who protested on that war crime.
Yet, If Israel kills a terrorist, the Arab world yells and cries.
I'm not saying Israel is a pure angel, however, in the Middle East, the safest country for any Muslim to live in is Israel.
The most dangerous country for any Muslim to live in is a Muslim majority country.
The greatest enemy of Muslims is not America or Israel, it is Islam itself, as it teaches not to accept others' beliefs.
Can you explain me the killing of 200,000 Syrian civilians in the last 3 years?
Can you explain me the killing of 100,000 men, women and children in Algeria, using the most abominable killing methods?
Can you explain me the terror attack 3 years ago on the peaceful village of Al-Kisheh in upper Egypt, killing 21 Coptic peasants?
Can you explain me the 5,000 Shia muslims that died just in the last week in Iraq by ISIS?
Can you explain me the killing of 43 Christians in Nigeria by Boko Haram and the kidnapping of 276 school girls?
Can you explain this killing phenomena that took place in the Muslim world?
Is it all a revenge against America? Is it all a revenge against Israel?
Or is it merely to satisfy barbaric religious instincts, aroused by religious Islamic teaching, which incite the rejection of others, the killing of others and the denial of others?
In Muslim countries, religion is the main source of education.
When you educate a child in his early years to learn the words of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, which says: "I was ordered to fight the people until they believe in Allah and his Messenger", you made the first step of making this child a future terrorist.
Islamic teaching are playing a role in creating these terrorists who killed all the people I mentioned.
This is not Israel who kills Muslims around the world. It is
Islam.
It is not the terrorists who distorted Islam (as some ignorant people claim), it is Islam who distorted the terrorists.
When Saddam Hussein buried 300,000 Kurds and Shia Muslims alive, we did not hear a single Muslim protest against that crime.
Yet, when Israel enter Gaza and kills 1000 Palestinians, most of them armed Hamas terrorists, the Arab world cries.
Isn't this hypocrisy serves the continuing of Muslims getting killed around the middle east?
There will be no peace in the middle east, not between Jews and Muslims and not between Muslims themselves,
until the Muslims re-examine their Islamic books which are full of calls to "takfir" and insulting other religions.
When it will happen, the world will respect the Muslims as it respects the Jews.

Hi Honprof1,
Thanks for introducing us to your investment portfolio. I am intrigued by your business model i.e. In what instruments do you invest your funds on? You claimed the returns are guaranteed, is that really possible? From m experience, there are very few investments with cast iron returns!!!

Your yields are almost equivalent to what i will get, should i decide to invest in treasury bonds. What adavantage do you have over trreasury bills which is guaranteed by the federal government?

If you think i am being unfair, just take a snapshot view of all the troubled spots around the world and Islam disproportionately features_
- Northern Nigeria- boko Haram
- Southern Phillipine - abu zayad terrorists
- Eastern Malaysia- recently occupied by philipino based islamic terrorists
- Burma- migrant moslems from bangladesh went on killing spree, which resulted in the indeginous Bhuddists taking revenge.
- Southern Thailand- islamc terrorosts have beheaded seevral Bhuddists
- Chechyen and other moslem domintaed caucauses of Russia are rife with violence
- somalia- where do i start
-Sudan- a basket case
- Afghanistan- a failed nation
-Iraq- sitting on a sectarian time bomb (shiites/sunni) rivalry
- Syria- need i say more
-Kashmir
-Israel and Palestine
- Bosnia (even when at the heart of europe, they remain hooked to violence ideology)
- The whole middle east will implode, just a matter of time when sunni/shiite rivalry reach a tiping point
-Mali (Alquida in Islamic Magreb)
-Yemen- another basket case
- Bharain- fighting for it's survival
-Bangladesh- another failing islamic state
- Pakistan- a failed nuclear armed state
- Egypt, Tunisia: so much political instability
The list is far from been exhausted.
Why is Islam always associated with violence?
Why do moslems resort to killings at the slightes provocation

Islam for Muslims / Christian Homes Burnt By Muslim Mobs In Pakistan by burgerking: 5:06pm On Mar 09, 2013
http://edition.cnn.com/2013/03/09/world/asia/pakisan-unrest/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

The arrest of a Christian man accused of making anti-Muslim remarks wasn't enough to appease an angry mob in Pakistan this weekend.

More than 100 homes of Christians were set on fire by outraged Muslims in the Badami Bagh community in Lahore on Saturday after police arrested Sawan Masih, a Christian in his mid-20s accused of speaking against the Muslim prophet Muhammad, officials said.

"Mob wanted police to hand them over the alleged blasphemer," said Hafiz Majid, the senior police official in Badami Bagh.

The mob also looted some shops run by Christians, he said.

Majid said Christians have fled the area for fear of being killed.

If convicted, Masih faces the death penalty. He denies the allegations made by the two men who filed the blasphemy complaint against him with police on Friday, Majid said.

Masih says the three got into an argument while drinking and that the other two men threatened to publicly accuse him of blasphemy, according to Majid.

"The attack is yet another shameful incident against a vulnerable community and further confirmation of the slide toward extremism in society on the one hand and, on the other hand, the apathy and inaction that has become the norm among the police," the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said in a statement.

The group accused police of arresting Christians in the incident "while those who went on a rampage and can easily be identified from television footage have gone scot-free."

Pakistan's blasphemy laws were first instituted to keep peace between religions. But they have been criticized by human rights advocates who say the laws enable legal discrimination against religious minorities. At time, the laws have been misused to settle personal differences between Muslims and Christians.

There have been about 1,400 blasphemy cases since the laws were first enacted in 1986, according to U.S.-based Human Rights Watch. There are more than 15 cases of people on death row for blasphemy in Pakistan, and more than 50 people have been killed while facing trial for the charge, according to the organization.

Last year, a Pakistani court dismissed blasphemy charges against a Christian teenager whose case prompted international outrage.

Her detention stirred up religious tensions in the predominantly Muslim country. It also generated fierce criticism of Pakistani authorities and renewed debate over Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

President Asif Ali Zardari issued a statement Saturday on the most recent "unfortunate incident." He noted that the country's constitution protects the rights of all Pakistani's, and that "such acts of vandalism against minorities tarnish the image of the country."

Foreign Affairs / These Are North Korea’s 28 State-approved Hairstyles by burgerking: 2:55pm On Feb 28, 2013
http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/02/25/these-are-north-koreas-28-state-approved-hairstyles/

It looks a lot of this year’s male Oscar winners wouldn’t survive the Communist state of North Korea without a haircut.

The Telegraph reports that the world’s favorite hermit state is implementing state-sanctioned haircuts for men and women. Women are allowed to choose one of 14 styles; married women are instructed to keep their tresses short, while the single ladies are allowed let loose with longer, curlier locks. (We’re partial to no. 6 on the ladies’ list, which pays homage to the fabulous feathering that dominated so much of 1980s.)

Men are prohibited from growing their hair longer than 5 cm — less than 2 inches — while older men can get away with up to 7 cm (3 inches).
Oddly enough, the list falls short of including its young leader Kim Jong Un’s current look — a variation on the high-and-tight that may be too much of a power ‘do for North Korea’s non-elite.

Photos showing example hair styles hang inside a barber shop in Pyongyang, North Korea on Feb. 20, 2013.
But hair conformity is nothing new in North Korea. The Daily Mail reports that in 2005 state TV aired a five part series on haircut guidelines for today’s modern socialist lifestyle, and it seems the concept is reemerging under North Korea’s new leader. There are a couple theories as to why this mandate is in place, including that Kim is not a fan of previous styles. Perhaps he just wants to avoid having to grow a pompadour like his father’s.

Technology Market / Apple Loses Samsung Copyright Appeal by burgerking: 4:13pm On Oct 18, 2012
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/apple-loses-samsung-copyright-appeal-090818964.html

Apple (NasdaqGS: AAPL - news) has lost its appeal over a High Court ruling that the Samsung Galaxy Tab does not infringe its copyright.

The Court of Appeal ruled that, even though parts of the product look similar to Apple's iPad, the tablet does not copy its rival's design.

Apple will now have to place prominent advertisements in several UK newspapers and magazines, explaining that Samsung did not copy the iPad.

It will also have to carry a link to the judgement on the homepage of its website.

A spokesman for Samsung said the company "welcomed" the court's decision.

"We continue to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners and that the origins of Apple's registered design features can be found in numerous examples of prior art," he said.

"Should Apple continue to make excessive legal claims in other countries based on such generic designs, innovation in the industry could be harmed and consumer choice unduly limited."

Apple's appeal was dismissed by Lord Justice Longmore, Lord Justice Kitchin and Sir Robin Jacob, who said: "If the registered design has a scope as wide as Apple contends, it would foreclose much of the market for tablet computers.

"Alterations in thickness, curvature of the sides, embellishment and so on would not escape its grasp. Legitimate competition by different designs would be stifled."

The appeal followed a ruling in July that, whilst the Galaxy Tab and iPad were "very, very similar" when viewed from the front, there were significant differences in both the thinness of the tablets and the detailing on the back.

Judge Colin Birss said that Samsung's design was "not as cool" as Apple's.

The two companies are the world's leading smartphone makers and have been fighting over patents in courts around the world.

Figures show Apple sold more than 17m iPads in the third quarter of this year alone, generating revenue of $9.1bn (£5.6bn).

The company declined to comment on the Court of Appeal's decision.

Business / Robert Kiyosaki 'rich Dad, Poor Dad' Author Files For Bankruptcy by burgerking: 6:30am On Oct 13, 2012
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/49393384By Jill Krasny

updated 10/12/2012 6:03:23 PM ET 2012-10-12T22:03:23
Print Font: +-Robert Kiyosaki, author of the bestselling "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection after losing a nearly $24 million court judgment to The Learning Annex, The New York Post reports.

As one of Kiyosaki's earliest backers, The Learning Annex was responsible for arranging the speaking engagements and platform that led to his massive success.

But apparently the fame went to his head because according to court papers obtained by the Post, Kiyosaki, who published his first "Rich Dad" book in 1994, never paid the Annex its rightful share. Said founder and chairman Bill Zanker: "Oprah believed in him, and Will Smith believed in him, but he didn't keep his promise to us."

Kiyosaki's Rich Global company was ordered by a U.S. judge in April to cough up $23,687,957.21, which in turn led him to file for corporate bankruptcy on Aug. 20.

Despite the blow to the personal finance guru's reputation, Kiyosaki probably won't feel the pinch in his wallet. Forbes pegs his net worth around a cool $80 million, and Kiyosaki, who's written 11 books, operates as many as ten other companies. Rich Global was said to be worth a few million when it went under.

"Rich Dad, Poor Dad" became an overnight sensation when Kiyosaki made the rounds on feel-good daytime TV like "Oprah" and aired his speaking programs on PBS. Cash-strapped consumers identified with his inspirational story of learning how to manage money from one father who struck it big and another who died penniless and alone.

Of course, not everyone bought into the schtick. As Helaine Olen's wrote in Forbes Thursday, the guru's "tips ran the gamut from ridiculous to illegal and downright hurtful and included advocating for insider trading, arguing for the purchase of multiple real estate properties with little or no money down and telling followers they could purchase stocks on margin via unfunded brokerage accounts."
Islam for Muslims / Newcastle's Muslim Stars Told Not To Play In New Kit by burgerking: 4:02pm On Oct 10, 2012

..The club announced a new £24 million shirt deal with controversial moneylenders Wonga on Tuesday, and now the Muslim Council of Britain have attempted to intervene.

United have received widespread criticism after unveiling the four-year deal with the short-term loan company, and the MCB has now piled on further pressure.

Four Muslim players represented the club against Manchester United on Sunday – Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa – and all are now being urged to make a stand.

Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra, assistant secretary general of the MCB, said: "There are two aspects to this. We have the rulings of the religious law and we have the individual's choice and decision on how they want to follow or not follow that rule.

"The idea is to protect the vulnerable and the needy from exploitation by the rich and powerful.

The club announced a new £24 million shirt deal with controversial moneylenders Wonga on Tuesday, and now the Muslim Council of Britain have attempted to intervene.

"When they are lending and are charging large amounts of interest, it means the poor will have short-term benefit from the loan but long-term difficulty in paying it back because the rate of interest is not something they can keep up with."

Romance / What Are The Risks Of Marrying Somone With Massive Debt? by burgerking: 3:26pm On Sep 11, 2012
Dear Nairalanders,
I have a close friend wnd she has been dating this guy for close to 2 years. He is gorgoeus, generous, really exciting and fun to be with. The downside is that he has well over N7 million naira in debt on an income of approximately 2 million naira per annum. He runs his own business but has a habit of living above his means in a bid to fit into a desired social setting. He has over 2 cars, lives in a very expensive but rented house and travels a lot, and generally living a 'highlife' on loans collected to run his business. She has tried to make him change his spending habits and although he agrees with her, he nevertheless soon resorts to habit of overspending.

He has proposed and my friend is worried and concerned that his nonchalant attitude towards his finnacial affairs might put a strain in their relationship especially as his view of money is opposite to hers? She works in a bank and has always believed in living within her means and putting aside some savings for a rainy day. I am of the vie wthat their different upbringing may account for these differences as he was brought up in a humble family while his parents are very well off.
To be fair, he loves her greatly and only spends his own money and does not made any financial demands on her.
What do you think she should do? Should she take the plunge?
Foreign Affairs / Rush Limbaugh Says Obama Manipulated Hurricane Forecasts To Delay GOP Convention by burgerking: 8:56pm On Sep 09, 2012
http://grist.org/politics/rush-limbaugh-says-obama-manipulated-hurricane-forecasts-to-delay-gop-convention/

On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh suggested that the government manipulated hurricane forecasts in order to force Republicans to cancel a day of their national convention, saying the model “allows them to do it.”
“The hurricane center is the regime; the hurricane center is the Commerce Department. It’s the government. It’s Obama,” Limbaugh said.
In reality, the National Hurricane Center forecast is, roughly, what you get if “you average together the track forecasts from” several models, most of which are done by other organizations, in some cases other countries. Obama would have more luck using his apparently omniscient powers to alter the course of the hurricane itself than somehow trying to rejigger the storm tracks from all these different models, which are publicly available and updated continuously.
Limbaugh communicated his absurd theory on this imaginary scheme while simultaneously claiming “I’m not alleging conspiracy.”
His latest conspiracy theory matches the absurdity of his claim from last July, when he said the heat index was “manufactured by the government” in order to convince the American people that it’s hotter outside.
Listen to Limbaugh’s paranoid rant on hurricane forecasting:
Here’s part of the full transcript (emphasis added):
So this whole thing has been politicized, as the Democrats politicize everything, and that’s why we are talking about it. Now, I want to remind you: All last week … And, no, at no time here am I alleging a conspiracy. At no time. With none of this am I alleging conspiracy. All last week what was the target? Tampa. What was going on in Tampa this week?
The Republican National Convention. A pretty important one, too. Introducing the nominee, Mitt Romney. It’s only after the convention that Romney can actually start spending all of this money that he’s raised, so this convention is very important. It’s a chance to introduce Romney to a lot of people who don’t know him yet. And I noticed that the hurricane center’s track is — and I’m not alleging conspiracies here. The hurricane center is the regime; the hurricane center is the Commerce Department.
It’s the government.
It’s Obama.
And I’m noticing that that track stayed zeroed in on Tampa day after day after day. And the Republicans react to it accordingly over the weekend, canceling the first day of the convention. What could be better for the Democrats than the Republicans to cancel a day of this?
… Again, I’m alleging no conspiracy. I don’t want anybody thinking I’m going somewhere with this. I’m just telling you what happened.
I’m sharing with you my thought process, ’cause I know full well that if you give these people the slightest chance and they’re gonna turn this into Katrina and they’re gonna scare the hell out of New Orleans and they’re gonna revive, “Bush doesn’t care about people” and revive all of it. They’re gonna politicize everything ’cause they do it. And now they had the model runs allowing them to do it.
Now they had these model runs allowing them to start scaring the hell out of people in New Orleans and make political connections to Bush.
It was all there.
I’m afraid Limbaugh isn’t all there …
Sports / How Usain Bolt Earns $20 Million A Year by burgerking: 6:42pm On Aug 05, 2012

Usain Bolt entered the 2008 Summer Olympics as somewhat of a curiosity. Yes, he had recently set the world record in the 100-meter dash, but few people outside the track and field world knew much about the 6-foot-5 Jamaican. He had excelled at the 200-meter distance, but was relatively new to the 100-meter event. His only sponsors before Beijing were Puma, which signed Bolt to a small deal in 2003, and Digicel, a Jamaican mobile phone company.

Three gold medals and three world records later, Bolt left Beijing as one of the most famous athletes on the planet. He set records in the 100 and 200, becoming the first man to capture Olympic gold in both events since Carl Lewis in 1984. He was part of the 4×100 meter Jamaican relay team that shattered the world record on the way to another gold. Life has never been the same for the world’s fastest man.

As Bolt’s fame soared, his paycheck took off as well. Bolt earned an estimated $20.3 million over the last 12-months from prize money, bonuses, appearance fees and sponsors. He ranks No. 63 among the world’s highest-paid athletes. Bolt has a ways to go to challenge LeBron James and Kobe Bryant in terms of earnings, but his income is more than 20 times what other elite sprinters typically make in a year and more than any other athlete in the history of track and field.

Bolt inked endorsement deals with Gatorade, Swiss watchmaker Hublot and Virgin Media after Beijing. Visa signed him to an agreement and splashed Bolt’s image on billboards across Europe, where track and field remains a popular sport. Visa is in position to use Bolt in ads during London as an official sponsor of the Olympic Games.

Soul Electronics signed a deal with Bolt this year and he will develop his own line of headphones for the company. He added a multimillion dollar pact in June with Nissan Motor, which plans to use Bolt in a global ad campaign. He released his autobiography, “9:58: Being the World’s Fastest Man,” in 2010, and another book is in the works for after London.

Bolt’s biggest paycheck comes courtesy of Puma, where he is the global face of the German sportswear company. Puma re-signed Bolt in 2010 to a deal worth $9 million annually. It is an astronomical sum for a track athlete and on par with what only a handful of the most marketable basketball, soccer and tennis stars receive from shoe and apparel contracts. In contrast, a massive Nike deal for a football or baseball player is $1 million.

Prize money in track and field is relatively paltry. Athletes compete each year in the Samsung Diamond League which is made up of 14 events around the world. Winners of individual races receive $10,000 with the year-end winner earning an additional $40,000. First place in the biennial World Championships is worth $60,000 and world records carry bonuses of $100,000 in that event. Bolt typically competes in 7 to 9 Diamond League events and earns additional sponsor bonuses based on his performances.

While prize money is small, Bolt’s ultimate running payday is often huge thanks to appearance fees. His fee starts at $200,000 and can reach $350,000 for a big meet. Bolt commands the huge sums because he guarantees a sellout when competing.

“Bolt is the highest-paid athlete in the history of track and field, but he’s also probably the most underpaid athlete in the history of track and field,” says Paul Doyle, a veteran track and field agent, in a Bolt story published last week in Sports Illustrated.

His appearance at the Penn Relays in 2010 resulted in the highest single day attendance (54,310) in the event’s 118-year history. Regarding the crowd’s reaction when Bolt started warming up, U.S. sprinter Mike Barber said, “It was so loud, I thought, ‘Is the President here?’”

Bolt can command these massive sums of money because he has transcended the world of track and field the way Tiger Woods did in golf during his peak and Michael Jordan did in basketball.

The 100-meter final Sunday night is the hottest ticket at the Olympics. London 2012 organizers received more than one million requests for tickets for the event with prices set at $1,130, which is more than any other event. Bolt will face stiff competition from countryman Yohan Blake, who is the current 100-meter world champion after Bolt was disqualified from the race last year for a false start. Blake also beat Bolt at the Jamaican Olympic trials.
Business / Nigeria Access Bank Wins $1 Billion Case Against Erastus Akingbola by burgerking: 5:41pm On Aug 01, 2012
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/08/01/uk-nigeria-accessbank-idUKBRE8700I820120801

LAGOS (Reuters) - Nigeria's Access Bank has won an order for repayment of more than $1 billion (639.75 million pounds) in a fraud case in London's High Court against a former executive of a bank it took over, according to a court document seen by Reuters on Wednesday.

Access Bank charged Erastus Akingbola, the former managing director of rescued lender Intercontinental Bank which it bought last year. The judgement was handed down by Justice Burton on Tuesday.

Access shares were trading flat on Wednesday.
Intercontinental, then one of Nigeria's largest banks, was one of nine lenders bailed out by the central bank in 2009, when Akingbola was removed from his post.

The judge ruled that Akingbola and his counterparts owed Access 145 billion naira due to illegal dealing in Intercontinental Bank shares and 16 billion naira in payments made by the bank to Tropics Group, companies in which Akingbola had an interest, Burton said.

Akingbola denied any wrongdoing.

"The claimant's case is proved," Burton's judgement said.

"As the Tropics Payments Claim is concerned, and as for his strategy for the company to buy its own shares ... quite apart from being contrary to Nigerian law, it was simply wrong-headed, and was plainly a substantial contributing factor to the collapse of the bank," Burton added.

Akingobola has already submitted $9 million to the court from property he bought with the bank's money but later sold, the judgement said.

http://mg.co.za/article/2012-07-30-iran-death-sentence-banking-scandal

A Tehran court has sentenced to death four people convicted in Iran's biggest-ever banking scandal.

The sentences came at the end of a trial of 39 suspects that started in February. The magnitude of the scandal was estimated at $2.6-billion when it came to light in September last year.

"According to the verdict, four people were sentenced to death," chief prosecutor Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei was quoted by news agency IRNA.

Mohseni-Ejei said two other of the suspects were sentenced to life in prison and the remaining received terms behind bars of up to 25 years after also being found guilty of corruption.

The identities of those convicted were not made public. They have 20 days from the date of the verdict to lodge any appeal.

The scandal revolved around a private group that amassed trillions of rials in loans from half a dozen Iranian banks through what were said to be forged or illegally procured letters of credit to buy several state companies up for privatisation.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last year denied accusations from some critical media outlets that his office had any links to the fraud.

The affair for several weeks fuelled political infighting between Ahmadinejad's government and ultra-conservative factions of the regime dominating Parliament and the courts.

Economy and Finance Minister Shamseddin Hosseini last November scraped through an attempt by the Parliament to have him fired.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani then stepped in to calm the row and order an end to public quarelling seen as undermining the country's interests. – AFP

Islam for Muslims / Re: Jizyah(tax) by burgerking: 5:58pm On Jun 26, 2012
I am just learning of this 'jizyah' tax moslems impose on their conquered victims. No wonder they forcibly converted conquered territories into Islam. Who can endure huge tax indefinitely?
Islam for Muslims / Jizyah(tax) by burgerking: 5:56pm On Jun 26, 2012
http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Jizyah_(Tax)

Jizyah is the extra tax imposed on non-Muslims (Dhimmis) who live under Muslim rule according to the Qur'an and hadith:

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold forbidden that which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Qur'an 9:29
"I call you to God and to Islam. If you respond to the call, then you are Muslims: You obtain the benefits they enjoy and take up the responsibilities they bear. If you refuse, then you must pay the jizyah. If you refuse the jizyah, I will bring against you tribes of people who are more eager for death than you are for life. We will then fight you until God decides between us and you." (Al Tabari, Volume XI)

Khalid bin Al-Waheed (Muslim General, 632AD)
Summon the people to God; those who respond to your call, accept it from them, but those who refuse must pay the poll tax out of humiliation and lowliness. If they refuse this, it is the sword without leniency. Fear God with regard to what you have been entrusted. (Al Tabari, Volume XII)

Umar ibn al-Khattab during the conquest of al-Basrah (636 CE)
Once a land is conquered by Islamic armies the ruler can impose a taxation on those non-Muslims who will not convert to Islam.

Jizyah is paid as a sign of submission and gives Dhimmis some legal protection in return. Under dhimmitude (the status that Islamic law, the Sharia, mandates for non-Muslims) Dhimmis usually are not allowed to carry arms to protect themselves, serve in the army or government, display symbols of their faith, build or repair places of worship etc. If the conquered do not wish to pay or convert, their fate may very well be slavery (under which, rape is permitted) or (as evidenced in the quotes above) death.

The amount of the Jizyah tax and the way it was collected varied from time to time and from place to place, but when imposed, the forced payment of Jizyah greatly stimulated the conversion of non-Muslims into Islam.[1] In some cases the taxation of the non-Muslims was so profitable that the Islamic rulers prohibited their subjects from converting to Islam, lest they should lose their income.

[edit] ContextTo be fair to history; Jizyah was not entirely an Islamic initiative or the innovation of its prophet Muhammad, (Emphasis on the word “entirely”). A certain form of Jizyah had existed among the tribes of Northern Arabia in pre-Islamic times. This fact is attested by the famous historian Philip. K. Hitti in his History of Arabs. Ghazw (غزو) or raiding others for feeding mouths was an accepted norm among the Bedouin tribes of that time. As Hitti noted, "Ghazw was a manly occupation of Bedouins where fighting mood was a chronic mental condition". For people among the tribes, everything that belonged to the other tribes guaranteeing material gain made a legitimate target. The context made it necessary for a weaker tribe or a sedentary settlement on the borderland to buy protection from the stronger tribe by paying what it then called Khuwwah which later became Jizyah in Muhammad’s Islam. Along with the booty acquired through raids and wars, Jizyah turned out to be a good source of income for believers when they were constantly occupied in spreading the newly founded religion by means of violence. To sum up, by imposing Jizyah on subjugated unbelievers Muhammad was reinstating an undivine tribal norm into his religion, thus broadening an abject backward practice.

[edit] A Sign of Kufr and DisgraceAllah said, (until they pay the Jizyah), if they do not choose to embrace Islam, (with willing submission), in defeat and subservience, (and feel themselves subdued.), disgraced, humiliated and belittled. Therefore, Muslims are not allowed to honor the people of Dhimmah or elevate them above Muslims, for they are miserable, disgraced and humiliated. Muslim recorded from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet said, "Do not initiate the Salam to the Jews and Christians, and if you meet any of them in a road, force them to its narrowest alley." This is why the Leader of the faithful `Umar bin Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, demanded his well-known conditions be met by the Christians, these conditions that ensured their continued humiliation, degradation and disgrace.

Paying Jizyah is a Sign of Kufr and Disgrace
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
[edit] Approval from Islamic ScholarsThe Muslims do not fight anyone until they have told them about the religion of Allaah and given them the choice between two things, either accepting Islam or, if they refuse Islam and keep their own religions, paying the Jizyah (tax) to the Muslims in return for protection. If they refuse both of these choices, then they are to be fought.

Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid
If some people persist in rejecting the religion of Allaah and stand in the way of ruling by that which Allaah has revealed on earth, or they fight against the call to Allaah, then we give them the choice of three things: Either they become Muslim; or if they refuse they pay the jizyah (whereby they pay a specified amount to the Muslims in return for being allowed to remain their land, and the Muslims undertake to protect them); or, if they refuse that, there is nothing left but the way which they themselves have chosen, which is fighting and dealing violently with those who have persecuted the Muslims and put obstacles in the path of the Islamic da’wah. In this way the Muslims will gain the upper hand and the enemies will be humiliated; then when we have killed and wounded many of them and gained the upper hand over them, we may take prisoners and bind a bond firmly on them.

Ahkaam al-Sijn wa’l-Sujana’ wa Mu’aamalat al-Sujana’ fi’l-Islam by Hasan Abi’l-Ghuddah, 256
"Saudi Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd Al-Rahman Al-'Arifi, Imam of the mosque of King Fahd Defense Academy, discussed the coming Muslim conquest of the Vatican. Citing a Hadith in an article posted on the Kalemat website in 2002, he stated:"[2]

"… We will control the land of the Vatican; we will control Rome and introduce Islam in it. Yes, the Christians, who carve crosses on the breasts of the Muslims … will yet pay us the Jiziya [poll tax paid by non-Muslims under Muslim rule], in humiliation, or they will convert to Islam…"

Saudi Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd Al-Rahman Al-'Arifi
"It may happen that the enemies of Islam may consider it expedient not to take action against Islam, if Islam leaves them alone in their geographical boundaries to continue the lordship of some men over others and does not extend its message and its declaration of universal freedom within their domain. But Islam cannot agree to this unless they submit to its authority by Jizyah..."

Milestones (Ma'alim 'ala Al-Tariq) p.73
Sayyid Qutb
This is the aim of Jihad with the Jews and the Christians and it is not to force them to become Muslims and adopt the `Islamic Way of Life.' They should be forced to pay Jizyah in order to put an end to their independence and supremacy so that they should not remain rulers and sovereigns in the land. These powers should be wrested from them by the followers of the true Faith, who should assume the sovereignty and lead others towards the Right Way, while they should become their subjects and pay jizyah...
[The Islamic State] cannot allow that they should remain supreme rulers in any place and establish wrong ways and impose them on others. As this state of things inevitably produces chaos and disorder, it is the duty of the true Muslims to exert their utmost to bring to an end their wicked rule and bring them under a righteous order.

As regards the question, "What do the non-Muslims get in return for Jizyah?" it may suffice to say that it is the price of the freedom which the Islamic State allows them in following their erroneous ways, while living in the jurisdiction of Islam and enjoying its protection. The money thus collected is spent in maintaining the righteous administration that gives them the freedom and protects their rights. This also serves as a yearly reminder to them that they have been deprived of the honor of paying Zakat in the Way of Allah, and forced to pay jizyah instead as a price of following the ways of error.

[edit] Jizyah in History"Not only Alamgir compiled Fatawa-u-Alamgiri, he re-imposed jizya (a tax on non-Muslims for protection under Muslim rule) that had been suspended by Akbar, destroyed some unauthorized temples and checked proselytizing activities of the Hindus."

The Historical Roots of Islamic Militancy in Pakistan and current scenario: Amicus
Mohammed Yousuf, May 19, 2005
Once Muhammad Bin Qasim had established himself in Sindh he sent a letter to the Muslim Caliph in Damascus, seeking instruction as to how he should deal with the Hindus and Buddhists of the conquered area. The reply came that they be treated in accordance with the Quranic commandments relating to the People of the Book (Ahl-i-Kitab), the Jews and the Christians. Accordingly, the Buddhists and the Hindus of Sindh were to be given full freedom to practise their faiths, and their lives and property, including temples, were to be protected. In return, they were to pay a tax, the jizya. The old, the sick, children and priests were to be exempted from the tax. The non-Muslims were not obliged to perform military service, unlike the Muslims. Following these dictates, Muhammad Bin Qasim thus set a precedent which several other Muslim rulers after him followed.

Idolatry and the Taliban
[edit] Jizyah in the Modern World"The general plan of Hamas also includes the imposition of a special tax, called al-jeziya, upon all of the non-Muslim residents in the Palestinian territories. This tax revives the one applied through all of Islamic history to the dhimmi, the second-class Jewish and Christian citizens."

"In the recent violence, residents of the Baghdad neighborhood of Dora said gunmen knocked on the doors of Christian families, demanding they either pay jizya — a special tax traditionally levied on non-Muslims — or leave. The jizya has not been imposed in Muslim nations in about 100 years."

The Associated Press, Fox News, May 07, 2007
The Taliban in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) have issued an ultimatum against local Hindus and Sikhs: either you pay “jizya”, an Islamic poll tax for religious minorities that is akin to protection money, or you leave. Many (more than 400)Hindu and Sikh families have already left for Peshawar and neighbouring provinces.
Threats against Sikhs and Hindus are but the latest in a series of warnings against religious minorities in the NWFP, including Christians who have had to pay jizya and submit to Sharia.

There have been several instances of members of minority communities being abducted for ransom or forced to pay 'jiziya', a tax levied on non-Muslims.

“Before 2003, there were around 2.1 million Christians in Iraq, but now there are not more than 500,000 of them,” Masho said.

He criticized the Iraqi government for being unable to protect Christians, and said that it did not even fulfill its promises to compensate them.

1960 Christians killed in Iraq since 2003 – survey

This past year there have been several disturbing incidents in the neighborhood of outer Nørrebro. In October, a refugee from Africa had his door kicked in several times and was threatened by a group of youths who accused him of being both black and Christian.

He was given a deadline of less than a week to pay them 10,000 kroner (1,800 USD) if he wanted to live in the area. Police told him that they could no longer guarantee his safety in Mjølnerparken [Muslim ghetto in Copenhagen, Denmark]. When Lejerbo (the company renting out apartments in the area) found him, he was crying and had slept on the street.

On the other side of the fence

Refugees who have fled to Jordan from Syria are telling mission leaders supported by Christian Aid Mission about deliberate, new persecution from the "Arab Spring" insurgents who are seeking to overthrow the brutal Assad regime in Damascus.
. . .

"It is over; we can't get back what we lost," said one discouraged Christian refugee here in Jordan. "It will never be the same anymore for me or my family. We've lost hope." He said he had to flee with his family at night, because anti-Christian persecution in Syria is becoming a steadily growing reality.

"I had my own business. I ran a supermarket, and we were financially stable. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. Our dreams vanished when a group of terrorists threatened to kill my family, burn our house, and set fire to the supermarket if I didn't pay them $7,000.

"I paid the amount, hoping that they would leave us alone, but they did not. Instead, they kidnapped me for a whole week. They only let me go on one condition: that each month I would pay them the same amount.

"What do you think I could do? I fled. I packed our stuff, taking only the basics. I took my family and came to Jordan. My son, Omar, has one year left to finish his bachelor's degree, but now his dreams have vanished as well. I used to be a business owner...but now I am a laborer who can hardly provide the day-to-day basics for my family."

[edit] Disguised JizyahIn Denmark, Muslims make up 5% of the population but receive 40% of social-welfare outlays. Their preachers have told them, Mr. Bawer reports, that only a fool would not take maximum advantage of the bounty that Western Europe offers and that it is perfectly legitimate to cheat and lie. The benefits they receive are a kind of jizya, the tribute that infidels in Muslim-occupied countries have to pay to preserve their lives. (The subsidized-radical situation in Britain and Germany is not much different: The four suicide bombers in London last year had raked in close to a million dollars in social benefits before going on their murderous mission.)

The Jizyah has "not been imposed" since European pressure and power has been brought to bear. But non-Muslims have been subject to a disguised Jizyah. Despite the supposed reforms that were to bring complete legal equality to non-Muslims in Turkey, in World War II the Varlik Vergesi was a large tax imposed by the government on non-Muslim citizens, who despite Kemalism, or perhaps because of it, have never been considered "Turks" equal to Muslim "Turks."
In Malaysia the non-Muslims have been subject to the disguised Jizyah of the Bumiputra system, which favors economically the Muslims, and essentially involves a transfer of wealth from the more industrious and entrepreneurial non-Muslims (Chinese and Hindus) to Muslims (Malays, but not the members of the indigenous tribes, which were christianized, or remained pagan -- and only now are being islamized through intense pressure and Da'wa campaigns).

Elsewhere, as in Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Hindus and Christians live in a state of permanet physical danger, and that danger also is one of losing their property to Muslim looters and marauders who cannot be sued or brought to justice on the say-so of a non-Muslim. The Jews of the Arab world fled -- nearly one million of them -- leaving their property, which was the last transfer of wealth. In Egypt, under Nasser, the property of most Jews and the Levantine Christains -- Greeks, Italians, and others -- were "nationalized" as Nasser put it. But this was nothing more than the seizure of Infidel property by Muslim governments. Copts in Egypt do not pay a direct Jizyah. But there are other ways to force local Christians, constantly fearful for their own well-being, to have them pay off, or take as local partners, Muslims who may protect them. There is no security for the property of non-Muslims in Muslim lands, and there are various ways in which the "protection money" that is the Jizyah is paid, often in indirect, informal, and disguised ways, when the more direct imposition would attract too much unwanted Western attention and, presumably, outrage.

Other Islamic Taxes[edit] ZakatSome will say that Muslims also had to pay a tax equivalent to the jizjah paid by Dhimmis'. It is true that Muslims, under the empire, paid a tax called zakat. However, this zakat is a 2.5% tax, while the jizyah (which can vary) is about a 10% income tax (although it has been known to be as high as 50%).[3] Muslims are obligated to pay this so-called "charity tax" even today, as its one of the five pillars of Islam. But, instead of paying it to the state, they now pay zakat to charities of their choice. It must however be noted that the majority of Islamic scholars are of the view that non-Muslims should not benefit from this alms giving,[4] which is why we find mainstream Islamic charities, like Islamic Relief, almost exclusively[5] focusing their humanitarian work in Muslim majority nations or areas in non-Muslim countries which are heavily populated by Muslim minorities. In the aftermath of the 2010 Pakistan floods, many Christian survivors were denied aid supplied by Muslim charities for this very reason.[6]

DevshirmeDevshirme (derived from , "collection, gathering"; called "collection of boys" or "blood tax" in Balkan countries in their native languages) was the systematic abduction of young boys from conquered Christian lands by the Ottoman sultans as a form of regular taxation in order to build a loyal slave army (formerly largely composed of war captives) and the class of (military) administrators called the "Janissaries", or other servants such as tellak in hamams. . Boys delivered to the Ottomans in this way were called ghilmán or acemi oglanlar ("novice boys"wink.

KharajTax imposed on recent Islamic converts in the 7th–8th century. In Islamic territories, Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians who did not convert to Islam were required to pay a tax called the jizya. Many people converted to Islam to avoid this tax or to escape the ban on non-Muslims owning land. As financial problems mounted for the Umayyad rulers, authorities imposed the kharaj as a property tax for recent converts. Popular opposition to the tax led to a revolt in 747 and precipitated the downfall of the Umayyad dynasty.
