The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. RIP Mr. Fakhr al-Din, you have my respects for going out in style (and also for not declawing or removing your lion's teeth as some Arabs are wont to do with their exotic pets). |
Good for them. More or less a symbolic gesture though, like English being designated a national language in the US recently. Now all they need to do is deal with having one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. |
Frankly, I don't think the kinds of people participating in these Islamist insurgencies care about the plight of Muslims halfway across the world. It's not like they're coordinating large international attacks like 9/11 where there's a desire to promote a specific ideology as propaganda of the deed. It's all confined to their little space. With that being said, ISIS has apologized to Israel on multiple occasions and Zionists persecute Christians so it seems they have a friend in one another . |
I, for one, am excited to see what assertive response they conjure up. |
71 people died and people here are just begging for money instead of discussing it lol. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, I guess. |
id4sho:That's a shame. Luckily, it looks like the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency has a page where you can report unsafe road conditions here: https://ferma.gov.ng/report-a-bad-road/. Just kidding, I know they're probably too invested with embezzling funds than upholding public safety.

130km/h on Ontario Highway 404. I am quite young (younger than this site as a matter of fact ), so I have only been driving for a little under two years. Otherwise, I would probably have much higher speeds to boast of. I also have no ties whatsoever to Nigeria, but I find lurking on this site amusing. I am not sure what typical road conditions are like in Nigeria, but the vast majority of highways/freeways in the West, made with routinely maintained asphalt aggregate, can support speeds far exceeding the legal speed limits usually imposed on them. So long as drivers are courteous and practice defensive driving, there is no problem with driving fast. This is especially true with Germany's Autobahn, which is one of the few major examples of a highway system without strictly enforced speed limits. Their road fatality rate is a few people per one billion kilometers driven, if I recall correctly. |
This is Frank Zappa's King Kong, specifically the studio version on his sixth album Uncle Meat, which was released in 1969: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1ZapVqxcug Listening to it for the first time after initially hearing another live cover of it, stolen by John Lennon and retitled as "Jamrag" on his album Some Time in New York City. I liked what I heard there as well, but felt it had been ruined by Yoko Ono's characteristic shrill, discordant screeching. It was also considerably shorter, I believe roughly 5 minutes in length compared to the ~17 of this studio one. I quite like this particular King Kong, but I imagine it does not suit the tastes of the vast majority of people here. Still felt like sharing. |
Several months later, and the only primary source for the event seems to be a Burkinabe prosecutor by the name of Aly Benjamin Coulibaly. He, and him alone, seem to have been cited repeatedly by different news outlets without any further verification of the death toll from authorities. Like others have said, it seems mostly fabricated as an attempt to get Traore out of power. Sad state of affairs. |
