Satellite TV Technology / Nigeria Soon To Crash Satellite Tv Cost by Cablepro(m): 10:17am On Nov 10, 2011 |
Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) has said its replacement satellite NigComSat 1R scheduled to be launched in December this year in China would crash the cost of satellite television acquisition through lower broadband cost and fast-track the migration from analogue to digital television broadcasting. The federal government agency satellite will provide large quantities of bandwidth to satellite and cable television stations, quicken the development of Direct-To-Home (DTH) local platform and the migration to High Definition (HD) digital broadcasting. NigComSat, Nigeria’s newest communications satellite, looks set for a December 25 Launch. The satellite, NigComSat 1R, will replace a previous communications satellite that was decommissioned in 2008. It is expected to significantly improve internet connectivity options in Nigeria. Preparations for the launch are reported to be well advanced and a roadshow is being staged to brief stakeholders and interested parties about the benefits of the satellite. The events are slated to run from November 21 to 23 at the Lagos Sheraton and Towers. Earlier this year, two other Nigerian satellites were sent into orbit aboard the Dnepr rocket in southern Russia. The NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites were successfully launched from Yasny in southern Russia. |
