When Dangote wanted to take over, PENGASSAN threatened to shut down the oil sector. Yar’Adua (RIP) caved in and reversed the sale. Fast-forward 22 years later — the refineries are still dead, PENGASSAN is still eating fat, and Nigerians still think “the government is the only problem.”

Meanwhile, petrol importers bled Nigeria dry with fake subsidy claims, siphoning trillions. PENGASSAN never complained — because everyone was feeding fat.

Then Dangote shows up. In a sector where even multinational oil giants —like Shell which turned down FG offer to buy the refinery— feared to invest, he sank a jaw-dropping $20 billion to build Africa’s biggest refinery. Now that the game has changed, the same unions are restless, fighting the man who dared to succeed where they failed.

So, Nigerians must ask: Is PENGASSAN truly fighting for the people, or just fighting to protect its own comfort at the expense of national progress?

Why won't they block the sales when their members future is at stake. If the FG want to sell the refinery, they should follow all labour rules and acts. Pay them off as stipulated and union won't resist your decision.
