BlackBerry’s CEO Thorsten Heins announced that the popular BlackBerry Messenger will be available on Android and iOS back at the BlackBerry live 2013 conference. We then had a tweet from the BlackBerry Worldwide tweeter account stating that the app will be available on June 27.



Unfortunately, the account didn’t turn out to be an official BlackkBerry affair and the BlackBerry Messenger for the Android and iOS did not make its appearance on the suggested date. However, the much-awaited BBM for the two of the most popular smartphone platforms will be available “this summer”, according to the BlackBerry India managing director.

The BlackBerry executive clarified that what he meant is North American summer, which lasts until September. This basically means we are two months away from getting the trademark messanger service on non-BlackBerry smartphones now.

headed to Rome, Italy recently to personally greet
Pope Francis and hand over the keys to the Pontiff’s
new Popemobile, a modified Mercedes-Benz M Class.
The vehicle was built specially for the Pope and will
first go into action later this month when he makes
an official visit to Brazil.
During their encounter, Zetsche and the Pope also
discussed sustainable and safer mobility as well as
the Daimler’s charitable commitment. Zetsche is an
admitted fan of the Papacy and has previously
revealed that he was first lured to work for Mercedes-
Benz when as a youngster he saw Pope Paul VI being
driven by one of the automaker’s cars.
The latest Popemobile follows a long line of
Mercedes-Benz cars used by the leaders of the
Catholic Church over the past 80 years. Those
include the first, a Nürburg 460 Pullman Saloon for
Pope Pius XI. This was followed by a 600 Pullman
Landaulet and 300 SEL for Pope Jon XXIII. His
successor, Paul VI, used a Mercedes-Benz 600
pullman landaulet and, later, a 300 SEL.
The name “Popemobile” was first used in the 1980s
in reference to the modified Mercedes-Benz G Class
that Pope John Paul II regularly used for celebrations
in Saint Peter’s Square. The G-Class was replaced by
a Mercedes-Benz M Class in 2002. This specially built
version was also used by his successor, Benedict XVI.

The start of the BlackBerry Live 2013 annual conference today in Orlando, USA, saw the announcement of the BlackBerry Q5 - a QWERTY device for emerging markets.

The Blackberry Q5 revolves around a 3.1-inch touchscreen and one of BlackBerry's classic physical QWERTY keyboards, which they are so proud of. The screen has an unusual resolution of 720 x 720px - the same as on the Q10, but this time it's an LCD unit. Inside the BlackBerry Q5 there's a dual-core 1.2Ghz CPU and 8 gigs worth of storage. There's a microSD slot to expand that, but the battery is not removable.

The new BlackBerry Q5 will be available in selected markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia (including the Asia Pacific region), and Latin America, with availability beginning in July. The smartphone will be offered in black, white, red and pink.


Another announcement that came from the today's keynote is that the BlackBerry 10.1 update is now ready to seed to the BlackBerry Z10 (later this month in the US). Not only that, but starting today, Skype will be available to all users who update their Z10s to v10.1.
