DAWN TO DUSK
From dawn
To dusk
They toiled
And sweated;
Their salty sweat
Witnessed their efforts.
It glistered
And streamed lazily
Down their skin.
Each labor
Reflected in
Their hollow eyes;
Each toil
Re-echoed in their
Empty stomachs.

Their salty sweat
Glittered the more
As the sun spawned
On their dark skin;
It sparkled like
A mirrow in the sun
Mirroring out their sorrow.
Their shadows
Cast on dusty mounds
They viewed their burden,
Never daring to lay it down
For they must not;
The task ahead beckons,
Duty calls.

Down to dusk
They must toil and sweat
To accomplish
A must do task
With little or no pay.

Why do you jeer and sniff
Like an aged boa
Watching the escapades of her young?

Grandma: memories of my youth.
Child;
Memories, over flowing;
memories surging
Like a strong wave
And I recall my strength,
child.
Long before they came,
We were there
Drumming our drums,
Telling folklores to our young ones,
Milking our cows and
Trimming our shrubs and trees.
Long before they came,
We were there in the fields
Teaching our hands to be
Kind to the earth-
Mother of fertility -
To raise her layers with ease
Our hands mastered all crafts
Long before they came,
We were there
Each drum rained its rhythms
Hips and muscled chests vibrated
Silently but vigorously
As the moon smiled at night
And
The stars glowed their
bright teeth.

Each folklore wooed the moon;
She beamed her rounded
Lips.
Revealing cheeky smiles;
Her smiles pierced
Through our shelter,
Our tall, huge udara tree.

Long before they came,
We were there -
Then they came
And muffled our dreams;
Scorned our tales
And spared not our cows;
They castrated our trees
And made our earth
To stagger
With mining and drilling;
Yet they perceived nothing,
They felt nothing!
