Politics / CHANGE Happening Already by capspeter: 3:09pm On Apr 02, 2015
After the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate General Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential poll, the naira has begun to stabilize.

It appreciated by 7% to 211 against the United States dollar on the parallel market.

Nigeria’s currency, which sold for 228 against the dollar before the poll, rose to 211 on Wednesday, Bureau de Change operators said.

Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, the acting president of the Association of Bureau de Change Operators of Nigeria, said he expected the naira to rise further.

He said: “I think the trend will continue. The naira may appreciate from 211 to something below 197
currently at the interbank market.”

Foreign exchange traders said the demand for dollars had subsided compared to what happened before the presidential poll.

Kunle Ezun, a currency analyst at Ecobank Nigeria, stated that the market had been trading around the general elections and Buhari’s person.

He said: “The market has been trading around sentiments and emotions, this is why the naira is appreciating; nothing has really changed in the fundamentals. There was high demand for the dollar before the election because some people predicted post-election violence. Now, the game is over and there is no violence. So, the demand for the greenback is abating.

“The market is also trading around the sentiment that Buhari will fight corruption, strengthen institutions and eliminate wastages. But after his inauguration, the market will trade around the fundamentals like the oil price, external reserves and others.”

The naira-dollar exchange rate has yet to witness any change on the interbank market.

On Wednesday, the local currency closed at 197 to the dollar, a level it had traded at since February after the Central Bank of Nigeria pegged the rate following a de facto devaluation.

It should be noted that in his presidential promises Gen Buhari, on Monday, March 23, said he would ensure that the naira was equal to the dollar in value, if voted into office.

The naira has mostly traded in a range of 198 to 200 per dollar since mid-February when the central bank scrapped twice-weekly foreign-exchange auctions at which the naira was sold to banks at a subsidised rate in a band that varied a maximum of 5% on either side of 168.
Politics / Re: Niger Delta Militants Threaten War Should Jonathan Lose Election by capspeter: 11:22pm On Jan 24, 2015
hedonistic:
If the nomads up north and their South Western underlings are using this artificial 'insecurity' created by them to blackmail and bully Jonathan out of office, then one definitely understands the position of the Niger Delta militant commanders.

This whole or. g.y of terrorism and violence in the North has been systematically used to discredit Jonathan's government. In many ways, the election wouldn't be a fair contest if many voters who ordinarily should be swayed by Jonathan achievements in diverse sectors are manipulated to vote for Buhari in the name of insecurity and Boko Haram. That will be difficult to accept.

If that's the case, then the militants would also need to reciprocate the 'gesture' ten-fold in the unlikely event that the North succeeds in installing their jihadist son as president. I guess that's the issue here.

That's okay... As long as they will attack their own people and community like bokoharam...
See fools talking... I just hope you will be in that region when it starts

Business / Re: Jonathan To Present N4.4trn Budget Today by capspeter: 7:47am On Dec 17, 2014
How did we get here?
How can we allow Jonathan destroy this nation?
We are in Austerity measures, but only the capital expenditures were affect. The capital expenditures is what affects the Nigerian populace.
His initial budget was N4.8t, but its now N4.4t due to austerity measures, meaning he removed expenditures worth N400b.
But capital expenditure lost about N600b, due to his austerity measures, while the recurrent expenditure was not affected.
Why has Jonathan decided that its only we ( the masses) that will suffer due to fall in oil price.
Why can't he be bold enough to reduce the salaries of this politicians.
People please let's be wise. If we don't we will suffer it.
Last years budget had capital expenditures at figures in trillions, and we didn't see any serious capital projects.
This year the figure about half a trillion, and from what was stated, 70% of the capital project budget will be used for construction of buildings for ministries.
We have only about N120b for capital projects that will affect the masses.
What this means is, Nigerians don't expect road constructions, water, electricity, housing, rail roads etc next year from Jonathan administration.
PLEASE LETS BE WISE...

Religion / Nigeria Catholic Church Amends Age Long Tradition Due To EBOLA by capspeter: 9:33am On Aug 17, 2014
while serving mass today, i noticed a few changes to the old ways our parish priest celebrates the mass.

1. during consecration, after the "our father" the priest always says "lets offer each other the sign of peace" at this point we all shake hands with our neighbours, but today was different, the priest simply asked us to turn to our neighbours without shaking hands and say "peace be with you".

2. during the time for reception of Holy Communion, the priest gives the Holy communion to the parishioners in their mouth, but today was different, the priest told the parishioners to place their left palm on their right palm while he places the communion on their left palm and they use their right hand to put it in their own mouth.

after the consecration and reception of holy communion, the priest informed us that the changes in the way the mass was said was due to some changes made by the college of bishops in Nigeria due to the current situation in the country.
he told us that this was not permanent but will only continue for the main time.
