Crime › Boy Discovers 5 People, Including 3 Kids, Dead Inside Delaware Home by captaindozy(op): 2:38pm On Jul 10, 2018

Police in Delaware are investigating after five people were found dead inside a home on Monday night. CBS Philadelphia reports that a neighbor says a boy, who was supposed to stay at the home, discovered the bodies, at the residence on the 2700 block of Ferris Road around 7:30 p.m.
"A neighbor said she watched him get out of a red truck, go inside the house and then rush right back out, so apparently he had to have found them 'cause no one else was around," said neighbor Alisha Garvin.

State Police Sgt. Richard Bratz tells news outlets that officers were called out Monday night to the home in Prices Corner. Police discovered the bodies of a 42-year-old man, a 41-year-old woman and three children all younger than 8 years old.

All five were found upstairs inside the residence. Their bodies have been taken to Delaware's Division of Forensic Science for autopsies. Their names are being withheld while relatives are notified.

"The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. At this time, there is no concern for safety in the surrounding area," police said in a news release.

Politics › Green Party Of Nigeria Vows To Resist Any Move To Scuttle Coalition [chairman] by captaindozy(op): 1:47pm On Jul 10, 2018

Source:http://www.captaindoz.com.ng/2018/07/green-party-of-nigeria-vows-to-resist.html

The national leadership of the Green Party of Nigeria, GPN, has reacted to the memorandum of understanding signed by about 39 political parties ahead of the 2019 general elections in the country.

Recall that GPN was among the political parties in Nigeria that signed the memorandum, of understanding, on Monday, with the main objective of defeating President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2019 polls.

Speaking with News agency on Tuesday in a phone interview, while reacting on the development, the national chairman of the party, Dr. Sam Eke, commended the political parties for deeming it fit to acknowledge the need to salvage the Nigerian people by signing the memorandum.
He explained that the parties that were signatories to memorandum were resolved to enthrone good governance in the country come 2019, saying that the Buhari-led administration has failed woefully to protect the lives and property of the Nigeria citizens.

According to the former presidential candidate of the Citizen’s Popular Party, CPP,”We want this country to start working again. We want the bloodletting in every nook and cranny of this country to stop with immediate effect.

“And for us to do that, is to get the President that would listen to the yearnings of all Nigerians. We want to get a Nigerian president that is a statesman. We want to get a nationalist. We don’t want to get a President that is tribalistic, a president that promotes one religion against others.
“Nigeria is a secular nation whereby we are free to worship as Christian and Muslim. it is enshrined in the constitution. And we have come and resolved that the major business of any government is to protect lives and property.

“So, any government that fails to protect its people is not worthy to continue governing the people”.
Eke vowed that the coalition would resist any attempt to scuttle this move to unseat the APC-led government come 2019.
He added that, “having done what we did on Monday, we know very well within some parties, some people that are not leaders, even members of the political party, will intent to see if they can scuttle this move.

“And we are saying, we will legitimately resist every means to scuttle this coalition,” the party chairman said.

Suzuki has revealed the new-gen Jimny and from the look of it, the mini-SUV has got a lot better compared to its previous model.
The new-gen Suzuki Jimny gets an updated design that maintains the SUV's characteristic traits, comes with additional features with modern connectivity options. However, the important highlights of the new-gen Suzuki Jimny are the new 1.5L petrol engine and the updated 4WD drivetrain that is claimed to be more off-road focused.

Design and cabin
Suzuki Jimny interior.
Etc.

The new-gen Jimny continues to be a 2-door design and is a serious off-roader with ladder frame construction, four-wheel drive with low-range gearing and high-profile tyres. The fourth-gen Jimny continues to have a retro design theme as seen on the previous models. The front grille has a 5-slat design. It is flanked by circular headlamps on either side. The headlamp housings host separated circular turn-signals. The front bumper looks minimalist but functional and houses the fog lamps and a prominent air intake. The Jimny's flared wheel arches get a dark plastic cladding. The theme is carried over inside as well. The dash has a blocky design throughout with separate housings for the gauges. There is an 80's style square housing for the touchscreen, round air con vents and toggle switches. The styling is quite reminiscent of the Maruti Gypsy.

Health › Why Sex Hormone Testosterone A Major Influencer Of Male Consumer Behaviour by captaindozy(op): 12:04pm On Jul 04, 2018

Source:http://www.econcept.com.ng/2018/07/why-sex-hormone-testosterone-major.html

A single dose of testosterone steers men towards luxury brands of cars, watches, pens, or clothes which, like stag anglers and peacock tails, signal "status" to the female gender, scientists said on Tuesday.

The sex hormone, it turns out, is a major influencer of male consumer behaviour, according to a study published in the journal Nature Communications.

"This is likely because testosterone plays a role in behaviours that relate to social rank (in animals), and owning status products is a strategy to signal one's rank within human social hierarchies," study co-author Gideon Nave of the University of Pennsylvania told AFP.
Studies have already established that humans use consumer goods to exhibit social status. But the role of hormones was unknown.

Nave and a team recruited 243 men aged 18 to 55 for a trial. Some were given a dose of testosterone, applied to the skin in gel form, while others received a placebo or "dummy" dose.

They were then asked to choose between two products — of similar quality but one boasting a trademark considered high status — a judgement determined in a previous survey of over 600 men.

While OnePlus is basking in the glory of its immensely successful OnePlus 6 flagship, it would seem that the Chinese smartphone maker has already begun work on the next-gen OnePlus device it plans to launch next year. As per reports this device, which is most likely be called the OnePlus 7, will come in mid-2019 and it is believed to have a feature that is only going to make the phone more desirable than before.

According to PhoneArena, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai that OnePlus is working with at least one US mobile carrier for launching a 5G smartphone sometime next year. The report states that due to OnePlus' strong connection with Qualcomm, the smartphone maker could in fact be the very first to unveil a 5G compatible smartphone in the country and possibly around the world.

Now Pete Lau hasn't mentioned in the report if the phone be branded as the OnePlus 7, but we are assuming that based on the naming cycle, that is what the device will be called. A 5G compatible OnePlus smartphone alongside the device's incredible performance would make this a breakthrough OnePlus device for sure.

Source:http://www.captaindoz.com.ng/2018/07/deadly-blast-hits-eastern-afghan-city.html

JALALABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) - An explosion hit the centre of the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad on Sunday, killing at least 20 people, including several members of the small Sikh minority, provincial government officials said.

The blast, hours after President Ashraf Ghani had opened a hospital in Jalalabad, damaged shops and buildings around Mukhaberat square in the city, said governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogyani. A politician representing the minority Sikh community was killed in the blast. Officials said Awtar Singh Khalsa, who had planned to stand in October's parliamentary elections, was dead.

Ghulam Sanayi Stanekzai, police chief of Nangarhar said the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who targeted a vehicle carrying members of the Sikh minority who were travelling to meet the president. Officials said at least 10 of the dead were Sikhs. Afghanistan is an overwhelmingly Muslim nation but a small number of Hindus and Sikhs remain in the country.

One seat in the Afghan parliament is reserved for a member of the country's small Sikh and Hindu communities. But increasing numbers of Sikhs and Hindus have moved to India, their spiritual homeland, due to persecution and repeated threats. Officials at the Indian Embassy in Kabul confirmed the death of ten Sikhs and condemned "the terrorist attack" in Jalalabad.

"The attack underlines the need for a united global fight against international terrorism without discrimination and accountability of those who support terrorists in any manner," the Indian Embassy said on Twitter. Inaamullah Miakhel, a spokesman for the provincial health department of Nangarhar, said 20 people were wounded. Officials said the casualty total might have been even higher had much of the city not been blocked off for Ghani's visit. He was not in the area when the blast occurred.

Politics › What SERAP Told Buhari About Abacha Loot Of $322m by captaindozy(op): 3:58pm On Jul 01, 2018

Sources:http://www.captaindoz.com.ng/2018/07/what-serap-told-buhari-about-abacha.html

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has said the plan by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to share the $350million (around N115 billion) loot recovered from former military ruler, late Gen. Sani Abacha among estimated 300,000 households, with each getting around $14 (around N5,000) a month is “mis-targeted and would not bring any tangible benefits to the beneficiaries.”

SERAP said, “The authorities have a legal obligation under the UN Convention against Corruption to which Nigeria is a state party to make sure that the returned Abacha loot is properly and efficiently used, both from the viewpoint of using asset recovery as a tool of ensuring justice to victims of corruption and breaking the cycle of grand corruption. But the plan to share the loot among households is mere tokenism and would neither have significant impact on poverty alleviation nor satisfy the twin objectives of justice and development.”

The government announced last week that it would starting from July distribute the returned loot by the Swiss authorities to around 300,000 households, with each getting around $14 a month.

Reacting, SERAP in a statement today by its deputy director Timothy Adewale said, “Rather than spending the loot to fund the National Social Safety Net Program (NAASP), President Buhari should, within the framework of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), create a central recovery account/trust funds, with oversight mechanisms to ensure repatriated funds are transparently and accountably spent to invest in tangible projects that would improve access of those living in poverty to essential public services such as water, education and health. Distributing N5,000 to household would neither improve the socio-economic conditions of beneficiaries nor achieve the enduring value of a more transparent and robust system to manage recovered loot.”

The organization said, “The return of the Abacha loot is a chance for President Buhari to commit to the enforcement of the 2016 judgment by Justice Mohammed Idris, which ordered his government to publish disclose the spending of recovered loot since 1999 by past and present governments till date, as well as details of projects on which the funds were spent; and to vigorously push the National Assembly to pass the Proceeds of Crime Bill. Buhari should make these happen before the next general elections if he is to truly demonstrate his oft-repeated commitment to fight grand corruption.”

The statement read in part: “The government should source funds elsewhere to continue its NAASP. The authorities should do the right thing with the returned loot and show Nigerians that they can properly and efficiently invest the funds in projects that would provide tangible benefits to the victims of corruption who are the socially and economically vulnerable sectors of the population. The authorities can use the loot to fund universal healthcare programme and a tuition assistance programme that would provide post-secondary/university education scholarships to young Nigerians from poor families and who would otherwise lack the resources to carry out their studies.

“In any case, distributing the returned loot to households in 19 states because the remaining 17 state governments have not yet put in place the appropriate platform through which to implement the NAASP is both unfair and discriminatory. The planned distribution is also vulnerable to abuse and corruption by state governors, who may push for the funds to be given to their supporters and thus used for parochial and political purposes. The proper and efficient spending of recovered funds is key for development and can support efforts to combat grand corruption.”

“Spending returned looted funds offers an opportunity to right wrongs committed by corrupt officials, rebuild public trust, and invest in the development of communities most affected by grand corruption in the country to improve the prospects for meeting many of the Sustainable Development Goals. It is important for the authorities to ameliorate the plight of communities that have borne the brunt of years of grand corruption by providing genuine opportunities for the socially and economically vulnerable sectors for personal development, and access to essential services as well as promoting the rule of law particularly by enforcing the judgment by Justice Idris.”

“President Buhari should re-negotiate the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Swiss authorities in full consultation with the communities affected by grand corruption and to ensure that the returned loot is used to promote justice and development. Using asset recovery to promote justice and development is about letting those who abuse their power for personal gain foot the bill for projects that would improve access of victims of corruption to essential services and pursuing genuine poverty alleviation programmes.”

Politics › Buhari Has Nothing To Offer Sule Lamido Lamented by captaindozy(op): 3:45pm On Jun 29, 2018

Source:http://www.captaindoz.com.ng/2018/06/buhari-has-nothing-to-offer-sule-lamido.html

The former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing to offer Nigeria.
Lamido made the declaration when he visited the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Secretariat in Abuja, yesterday.
The presidential aspirant informed members of the National Working Committee of the party of his intention to run for Presidency in 2019.
Lamido described himself as the national bridge Nigerians need.
He called on the party to do everything possible to defeat the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2019 elections.
Lamido, while questioning the democratic credentials of Buhari, the 2019 presidential hopeful urged Nigerians to know that, “Buhari has a history of violence.”
He said, “Buhari has nothing to offer Nigerians. Where was Buhari when we formed the PDP in 1998? He was a supporter of General Sani Abacha. Let me say this: Buhari represents violence and do not forget that the character of a leader has a way of affecting the behavior of the people.
“That is why there are lots of killings today in the country. Muslims are killing Muslims and in Ebonyi, some people are fighting against themselves.”
Lamido held that unlike the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would cease to exist if individuals like Buhari abandoned the party.
“People have left the PDP and we are still here. Take Buhari out of the APC, and the party is dead,” he said.
On his presidential ambition, Lamido said, “I am a national bridge and I have a large heart. I am not an aspirant but the aspirant. We are determined to reclaim Nigeria for Nigerians and if you are on the same page with me; then, we must collectively rescue this nation from the hands of these people.”

Phones › The Safer Way To Protect Your Smartphone From The Worst Falls by captaindozy(op): 3:37pm On Jun 29, 2018

Life can be difficult for the clumsy ones. Our phones slip off our hands on a daily basis, and with the multiple falls, the probability of the phone falling at that one screen-shattering angle becomes so high. To an extent that no tempered glass can save your device.

However, if we keep faith in tech, here’s a possible saviour for us.
The brainchild of Aalen University engineering student Philip Frenzel, a new phone case was demonstrated, which protects the phone from the fall with the help of a set of springs that appear right before impact. Rather than breaking, the phone bounces back.

Frenzel created this device as his thesis project, and demonstrated this for German publication SWR, which refers to the concept as “an airbag for smartphones.” It’s easy to see the comparison: the protective elements only appear when an impact is detected.

Basically, when you drop your phone, the case detects falls and the protective hinged legs pop out at the last second. When the phone hits the ground, the legs of the case hit instead of the handset, and the springs in the legs absorb the impact. So even if the phone has fallen from a distance and bounces once or twice, the protective legs will hit the ground each time. The legs are curved both upward and downward, so whichever side the phone falls, it will be protected. Thus, causing no harm to the phone.

Other than that, the website for the case, refers to it as “Ad-case”. It also mentions that the case features an extra battery, as well as support for wireless charging. The protruding section of case on the back of the phone is said to be 4.9 mm thick, making it incredibly slim given its functionality.
Also, per the page, the smartphone case will be launching on crowdfunding website Kickstarter soon.

WASHINGTON: The summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be held in Helsinki, Fox News reported on Thursday.
Fox News cited an unidentified source and did not elaborate. Trump had said on Wednesday the meeting likely would take place after a July 11-12 summit of Nato leaders and that the Finnish capital was a possible venue.
Moscow and Washington will announce the time and place of the summit on Thursday.
The two countries struck a deal on Wednesday to hold a summit soon. Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov, speaking after Putin met US National Security Adviser John Bolton in the Kremlin, said the summit would take place in a mutually convenient third country and that several more weeks were needed to prepare for it.

Health › Personalized 'deep Learning' Equips Robots For Autism Therapy by captaindozy(op): 3:40pm On Jun 28, 2018

Source:http://www.econcept.com.ng/2018/06/personalized-deep-learning-equips.html

Children with autism spectrum conditions often have trouble recognizing the emotional states of people around them -- distinguishing a happy face from a fearful face, for instance. To remedy this, some therapists use a kid-friendly robot to demonstrate those emotions and to engage the children in imitating the emotions and responding to them in appropriate ways.

This type of therapy works best, however, if the robot can smoothly interpret the child's own behavior -- whether he or she is interested and excited or paying attention -- during the therapy. Researchers at the MIT Media Lab have now developed a type of personalized machine learning that helps robots estimate the engagement and interest of each child during these interactions, using data that are unique to that child.

Armed with this personalized "deep learning" network, the robots' perception of the children's responses agreed with assessments by human experts, with a correlation score of 60 percent, the scientists report June 27 in Science Robotics.

It can be challenging for human observers to reach high levels of agreement about a child's engagement and behavior. Their correlation scores are usually between 50 and 55 percent. Rudovic and his colleagues suggest that robots that are trained on human observations, as in this study, could someday provide more consistent estimates of these behaviors.

"The long-term goal is not to create robots that will replace human therapists, but to augment them with key information that the therapists can use to personalize the therapy content and also make more engaging and naturalistic interactions between the robots and children with autism," explains Oggi Rudovic, a postdoc at the Media Lab and first author of the study.

Rosalind Picard, a co-author on the paper and professor at MIT who leads research in affective computing, says that personalization is especially important in autism therapy: A famous adage is, "If you have met one person, with autism, you have met one person with autism."

"The challenge of creating machine learning and AI [artificial intelligence] that works in autism is particularly vexing, because the usual AI methods require a lot of data that are similar for each category that is learned. In autism where heterogeneity reigns, the normal AI approaches fail," says Picard. Rudovic, Picard, and their teammates have also been using personalized deep learning in other areas, finding that it improves results for pain monitoring and for forecasting Alzheimer's disease progression.

Meeting NAO
Robot-assisted therapy for autism often works something like this: A human therapist shows a child photos or flash cards of different faces meant to represent different emotions, to teach them how to recognize expressions of fear, sadness, or joy. The therapist then programs the robot to show these same emotions to the child, and observes the child as she or he engages with the robot. The child's behavior provides valuable feedback that the robot and therapist need to go forward with the lesson.

The researchers used SoftBank Robotics NAO humanoid robots in this study. Almost 2 feet tall and resembling an armored superhero or a droid, NAO conveys different emotions by changing the color of its eyes, the motion of its limbs, and the tone of its voice.

The 35 children with autism who participated in this study, 17 from Japan and 18 from Serbia, ranged in age from 3 to 13. They reacted in various ways to the robots during their 35-minute sessions, from looking bored and sleepy in some cases to jumping around the room with excitement, clapping their hands, and laughing or touching the robot.

Most of the children in the study reacted to the robot "not just as a toy but related to NAO respectfully as it if was a real person," especially during storytelling, where the therapists asked how NAO would feel if the children took the robot for an ice cream treat, according to Rudovic.

One 4-year-old girl hid behind her mother while participating in the session but became much more open to the robot and ended up laughing by the end of the therapy. The sister of one of the Serbian children gave NAO a hug and said "Robot, I love you!" at the end of a session, saying she was happy to see how much her brother liked playing with the robot.

"Therapists say that engaging the child for even a few seconds can be a big challenge for them, and robots attract the attention of the child," says Rudovic, explaining why robots have been useful in this type of therapy. "Also, humans change their expressions in many different ways, but the robots always do it in the same way, and this is less frustrating for the child because the child learns in a very structured way how the expressions will be shown."

Personalized machine learning
The MIT research team realized that a kind of machine learning called deep learning would be useful for the therapy robots to have, to perceive the children's behavior more naturally. A deep-learning system uses hierarchical, multiple layers of data processing to improve its tasks, with each successive layer amounting to a slightly more abstract representation of the original raw data.

Although the concept of deep learning has been around since the 1980s, says Rudovic, it's only recently that there has been enough computing power to implement this kind of artificial intelligence. Deep learning has been used in automatic speech and object-recognition programs, making it well-suited for a problem such as making sense of the multiple features of the face, body, and voice that go into understanding a more abstract concept such as a child's engagement.

"In the case of facial expressions, for instance, what parts of the face are the most important for estimation of engagement?" Rudovic says. "Deep learning allows the robot to directly extract the most important information from that data without the need for humans to manually craft those features." For the therapy robots, Rudovic and his colleagues took the idea of deep learning one step further and built a personalized framework that could learn from data collected on each individual child. The researchers captured video of each child's facial expressions, head and body movements, poses and gestures, audio recordings and data on heart rate, body temperature, and skin sweat response from a monitor on the child's wrist.

The robots' personalized deep learning networks were built from layers of these video, audio, and physiological data, information about the child's autism diagnosis and abilities, their culture and their gender. The researchers then compared their estimates of the children's behavior with estimates from five human experts, who coded the children's video and audio recordings on a continuous scale to determine how pleased or upset, how interested, and how engaged the child seemed during the session.

Trained on these personalized data coded by the humans, and tested on data not used in training or tuning the models, the networks significantly improved the robot's automatic estimation of the child's behavior for most of the children in the study, beyond what would be estimated if the network combined all the children's data in a "one-size-fits-all" approach, the researchers found.

Rudovic and colleagues were also able to probe how the deep learning network made its estimations, which uncovered some interesting cultural differences between the children. "For instance, children from Japan showed more body movements during episodes of high engagement, while in Serbs large body movements were associated with disengagement episodes," Rudovic says.

The study was funded by grants from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; Chubu University; and the European Union's HORIZON 2020 grant (EngageME).

Education › Human And Technical Errors Caused Fresh Delay In Launch Of James Webb Telescope by captaindozy(op): 2:50pm On Jun 28, 2018

NASA said on Wednesday that human and technical errors had caused a fresh delay in the launch of a giant space telescope, which will now not be deployed before March 2021.

The James Webb Space Telescope — which NASA has long expected to replace the fabled Hubble — was initially meant to go into service this year but has faced multiple hitches.

The Webb telescope will be the most powerful ever built — about 100 times more sensitive than Hubble — and is to be deployed on a mission to give astronomers an unprecedented glimpse at the first galaxies that formed in the early universe.

Its most recent delay was announced in March, when NASA said blast off would likely be in May 2020. The latest snags stemmed from a variety of human errors, technical problems and even "excessive optimism," said Tom Young, chair of the Independent Review Board.

"The complexity and risk cannot be overstated or overestimated," he told reporters in a conference call.

NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a video message that the telescope "is going to do amazing things, things we've never been able to do before as we hear from other galaxies, and see light from the very dawn of time."

"In space, we always have to look at the long term. And sometimes, the complexities of our missions don't come together as soon as we wish. But we learn, we move ahead, and ultimately we succeed. We will get there with Webb," he said.

"I assure you that in the end, the Webb Telescope will be worth it," he said.

The NASA technical report said that in one case, "an improper solvent was used to clean propulsion system valves that had been stored. The error was a failure to check with the valve vendor to ensure the solvent to be used was recommended and would not damage the valves. The valves had to be removed from the spacecraft, repaired or replaced, and reinstalled."

"Another human-induced error was improper test wiring that caused excess voltage to be applied to transducers," it said.

The project, a joint endeavor with the European and Canadian space agencies, has already drawn scrutiny from lawmakers for its ballooning costs, given that its initial budget of $3.5 billion had already soared to a an estimated $8 billion the last time a delay was announced.

The James Webb telescope is named after NASA's second administrator, in office from 1961 to 1968. It will be launched aboard an Ariane-5 rocket from French Guiana.

Travel › Space Tourists May Be Prone To Sickness While On A Spaceship: NASA Astronaut by captaindozy(op): 1:51pm On Jun 28, 2018

People who sign up with space tourism companies for a trip beyond the Earth may be unprepared for the rigours of spaceflight, according to a NASA astronaut.

To date, only the Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, has taken tourists into space, between 2001 and 2009, at a cost between $20 and 40 million.

However, aerospace companies like Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic and SpaceX are hoping to launch commercial flights within the next decade.

Hundreds of people, including Hollywood actors like Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, have already bought tickets.

NASA astronaut Anna Fisher, who became the first mother in space, has warned many are unprepared for the rigours of spaceflight and the toll it will take on their bodies.

Fisher said she was sick for the first two days of her mission on the Discovery space shuttle in 1984, expressing concerns that people paying hundreds of thousands of pounds did not fully appreciate what might happen.

“It’s not like riding a commercial aircraft, not at all, and I can see all these problems with people up there and throwing up and messing up somebody’s flight that they paid $250,000 for,” Fisher was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

The Apollo 8 crew were the first astronauts to report space sickness in 1968, and by Apollo 9 the crews were feeling so bad that their spacewalk had to be rescheduled.

‘Vomit comet’
NASA’s training aircraft where astronauts can experience weightlessness is colloquially known as the ‘vomit comet’ because it makes people feel so ill.

It is widely known that microgravity seriously impacts metabolism, heat regulation, heart rhythm, muscle tone, bone density, eyesight and the respiration system.

In 2016, research from the US also found that astronauts who travelled into deep space on lunar missions were five times more likely to have died from cardiovascular disease than those who went into low orbit or never left Earth.

A self-professed Lagos-based pastor has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for alleged armed robbery.

Daniel Onwugbufor, who claimed to be the General Overseer of God’s Favour Ministry, Iba in Lagos, was arrested along with one Israel Animashaun last week by men of FSARS, the command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said yesterday.
The spokesman said the arrests followed series of car snatching reports which the command had been trying to unravel and smash the syndicate.

“The efforts paid off when one of the snatched cars, a Lexus RX 330 jeep was tracked down to Onwugbufor at his Iba residence consequence upon which he was arrested.
“This arrest led to that of Animashaun who is an active member of a three-man gang of armed robbers that specialised in snatching of exotic cars at gun point.

“On interrogation, Animashaun confessed that he and two others snatched the Lexus jeep at gun point at Ajah in Lagos and took it to Onwugbufor who used to help them in selling such items.
“He stated further that he was only paid N350,000 for the car after using it for two weeks before he sent it to his other accomplice in Onitsha who is still at large.

“He also informed the police that he once robbed somebody of a Galaxy Samsung handset which Onwugbufor bought forN35,000 from him.”
Oyeyemi said the ‘pastor’ who first denied knowing Animashaun to be an armed robber, later confessed when confronted by Animashaun and blamed his action on the devil.

AUTHORITIES of the Nigeria Police, Osun State command have recovered no fewer than 39 stolen vehicles in January and February 2018 from suspected armed robbery gang.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye made this disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists at the headquarters of the Police command, located around Ring Road area of Osogbo, the state capital.

He disclosed that his command had earlier in January recovered 19 stolen vehicles from armed robbery syndicate, whose members were arrested in Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Delta and other states.

While explaining that another 20 stolen vehicles were recovered in February from the same gang of armed robbers, Adeoye added that number plates of the recovered vehicles have been removed by the criminals, saying the total number of cars retrieved from the men of the underworld was now 39.

According to him, “I want to let you know those Police detectives are not relenting on their efforts. We have recovered another 20 vehicles stolen by gangs that we paraded for stealing 19 vehicles on January 30. We discovered that some of the vehicles were snatched at gunpoints. We have prepared the details of the vehicles for the owners to come and claim them”.

Adeoye, however, commended men and officers of the Special Anti Robbery Squad for their hard work and dedication to duties, saying their diligent efforts had gone a long way in checkmating the illicit activities of armed robbers in the state.
He added that eight persons have come with claims of ownership of some of the retrieved vehicles, most of which, he said were Toyota Camry cars, just as he urged other individuals, who had hitherto lost their vehicles to armed robbers or through any other means to come to the Police headquarters with adequate proofs.
