It’s A Flexible And Rewarding Venture
Honey is famous for its nutritional and medicinal properties. Consequently, many people use it for different dietary purposes. For health reasons, some people now prefer using honey as a sweetener for their foods and drinks, rather than sugar, which is considered not so healthy. The food industries are also not left out, as those of them that are health-conscious have substituted sugar with honey.

The increased demand for honey, both for domestic and industrial uses, has resulted in an increase in bee-farming and processing. Apiculture or bee-keeping is currently being undertaken at the small and medium scale levels. Some people have ventured into this line of business to satisfy demand, as well as earn a living. Bee-keeping or bee-farming is not an all-comer’s affair, as it takes a lot to succeed in the business. Known for its sting, which is not only painful, but could also be lethal, bee farmers are obliged to create a natural habitat outside the normal base for bees to live and produce honey throughout the year.
Tolu Gbolahan, a bee farmer and honey seller, said the days when farmers had to go into the forest to harvest honey are gone. “Today, we have devised means through which we could make bees produce honey,” he explained. “Going into the forest for this product is dangerous, because one has to contend with wild animals that also depend on it for food.”

He said honey is expensive because not many people have the tenacity and stamina to withstand the various horrible experiences involved in the process of sourcing it. These include being stung by bees, sometimes not getting enough honey to meet market demand, which could be frustrating after putting in so much effort and even the bees dying sporadically. Gbolahan said he makes between N100, 000 and N150, 000 per month selling honey to middlemen, who resell the product to end users. He explained that the business is good, flexible and not seasonal, if one knows the technics. According to him, beekeeping is a high yielding venture that not only enables the keeper earn money from honey alone, but also from other derivable supplements, such as beeswax, which is used for other things.
Explaining how a beginner can succeed in the business, Gbolahan said it is necessary that a new entrant should undergo some months or years of training to be able to identify the different species of bees, know how the insects live in their organised community and other technicalities of the business.
“There are different species of bees, but the social bees, which include the bumble bees and stingless bees are good. They look after their young for a long time and by so doing, produce more honey for the farmer. Bees live in colony, which comprises the queen, drones and workers. The queen is the largest bee in the colony and the only sexually developed female in the hive; others just work for her.
“Usually, a two-day old larva is selected by the workers to be reared as the queen. She emerges from her cell 11 days later to mate in flight with approximately 18 drone (male) bees. During this mating, she receives several million sperm cells, which would last her entire life span of nearly two years. The queen starts laying eggs about 10 days after mating and could lay 3,000 eggs daily. One needs to know all this to be able to handle the business properly.”
Explaining how bees behave, Samuel Nkuma said bees abhor being agitated and could attack any intruder to their hive or around it.
“The insects hate intrusion into their quietude. They like quiet and cool environment and are capable of recognising shapes and locations, which is the reason why it is better to let them operate in a garden, where they would be free to fly around. It is in the bid to create a serene environment for the insects to produce better that prompt some beekeepers to operate their farms outside residential areas,” he explained.
What are the requirements for a prospective entrepreneur? Aside training, Nkuma said interested individuals could start with a rented land, though it is better, if one owns the land. After securing the land, hives are then created with beeswax, which automatically lure the bees, as they begin to arrive on their own. As bees possess a very keen sense of smell, they can easily perceive where living or dead bees are located.

“One can start with as little as N100, 000 to build 30 to 35 hives in a small area of about 25ft x50ft. Each hive consists three categories of bee: one queen that lays eggs, 30,000 to 80,000 workers, females that do not lay eggs and hundreds of drones to mate the queen. Getting a queen bee is not such a big deal, as the insects can select one on their own. All you need do is provide conducive environment for them to survive. Then you plant trees and flowers around the farm and shield them from insecticide and pesticides. “Drones are male bees that have no stingers. They do not collect food or pollen from flowers. Their sole role is to mate the queen and if the colony is short of food, they are thrown out of the hive. The workers are the smallest bees in the colony; they are sexually undeveloped females. A colony can have about 30, 000 to 80, 000 of them. The life expectancy of the workers is approximately 28 to 35 days.
“Workers feed the queen and larvae, guard the hive entrance and help to keep the hive cool by fanning their wings. Worker bees also collect nectar to make honey,” he explained.
According to him, bees prefer flying to different places, other than their vicinity to source their nectar. This, they do singly, rather than in a group. And though there are two types of honey produced by two categories of bees, he said the difference lies only in the taste and aroma, but not in the quality.
“The first type of honey is produced by poly-floral bees, while the second is produced by mono-floral. Poly-floral bees suck the nectar of different plants, while mono-floral bees concentrate only on one plant. Because these bees get their nectar from different sources and in different ways, their aroma and taste are never the same, and sometime even their colours,” he said.
Francis Gur, a Kogi State-based beekeeper, said an average hive could produce 20 to 25 litres of honey, depending on the season of the year. According to him, bees produce more during dry season than in the rainy season or very cold periods, when they cluster in their hives.
Saying he makes between N80, 000 and N150, 000 a month, Gur explained that he brings undiluted honey from his base to Lagos every month. According to him, the prices of honey differ, based on the quality and sizes of the containers.
“Some people dilute their products with sugar and it would still have that honey colour and taste, but I sell undiluted one from 50cl to five litres and 25 litres. The price starts from N1, 500 upwards depending on the size,” he said.
How does one distinguish between original honey and the diluted one?

“Original honey does not foam. It won’t melt or hiss, if you touch it with a lit match. If original honey is poured into a cup of water, it will not dissolve or separate into layers. If you pour original honey on a paper, it won’t leave a damp patch. Natural honey has natural impunities of pollen, beebread, micro-particles of wax and propolis. “Also, if you dip your finger into the honey, let one or two drops fall on the ground, if it is pure honey it will go down like a thread without breaking. Pour water into a cup and then pour some quantity of honey, if the honey is pure, it will go down to the bottom of the cup without mixing up with the water except you stir it. If pure honey is poured on the sand, it will not sink immediately,” he said.
What It Takes To Excel In Beekeeping Business
• Label your products, as this advertises and gives assurance.
• Acquire the right training before venturing into it.
• Observe safety measures, as bee stings are lethal, if not well handled.
• Fence your farm with natural barricades to ward off intruders.
• Keep your distribution network open to boost your business

PoliticsBuhari’s Aides Frustrating Dialogue With Niger Delta Avengers, Bayelsa Elders by caremaster(op): 12:49am On Jul 10, 2016
Some elders and traditional rulers from the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State on Friday alleged that some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides who hail from the Niger Delta were frustrating the proposed dialogue between the Federal Government and the new militant groups led by the Niger Delta Avengers.

According to the elders, though the decision of President Buhari to lead the proposed dialogue was commendable, his aides’ show of deceit, fraud and discordant tunes hadcreated a huge gulf between the militant youths and the present administration.
The Bayelsa elders, who are members of Bayelsa Elders for Progress, Peace and Good Governance (BEPGG), made the assertions in a statement released by their coordinator,Ayibatonye Goodnews, and ‎secretary, Lucky Ebifaghe. They claimed that the recent activities of key presidential aides from the region, including Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, and the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Brigadier General Paul Boroh, were frustrating peace efforts.
In an open letter, BEPGG urged President Buhari to “investigate the genuineness of purported meetings held between the Presidential Amnesty boss, Paul Boroh, and Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.” They added: “How can they claim to have met stakeholders and the militant attacks continue? They met some fake militants and stakeholders and wasted scarce resources of the Federal Government on [a] jamboree.”
The group accused General Boroh, who runs the government’s amnesty program, of falsely claiming to have relocated to the creeks of the region. According to them, the amnesty boss “was only sighted in Tompolo's community [holding] clandestine meetings without [a] solution to the continued bombing of the oil and gas facilities.”
They asked Mr. Buhari to probe how funds were “expended on the jamboree without result. We insist that the Presidential Amnesty Office should be probed following the alleged failed sharing of resources to fake Avengers.”
The elders and traditional rulers further stated, “The lack of knowledge on key issues of the region and wrong signals sent to militants ‎along the creeks are frustrating the needed peace process. Many of the purported stakeholders have made money from the self-created jamboree in the region. Genuine Niger Delta stakeholders should be consulted for sustained peace.”
They commended ‎President Buhari’s decision to lead the proposed dialogue between the Federal Government and stakeholders from the area. According to them, the dialogue should usher in “needed peace and growth in the region.”

PoliticsAnother 140,000 Bpd Shut In As Agip, AITEO Close Operations In Bayelsa by caremaster(op): 7:25am On Jun 06, 2016
Navy asks communities to produce militants or face punitive action

Nigeria’s crude oil production capacity has again dropped by 140,000 barrels per day (bpd) from the renewed activities of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a new militant group in the country’s Delta region.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported in Abuja yesterday that while the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) has shut its Bayelsa production facility which produces 65,000bpd, indigenous operator, Aiteo, which operates the Nembe Creek Trunk Line, has also stopped its 75,000bpd facility in Bayelsa.

According to the agency, earlier attacks on NAOC oilfield on May 18 and 24 resulted in the shutdown of some 5,200 barrels of its equity share of oil output.
It said a spokesperson for Agip confirmed the development in a short e-mail response to it.
“The total deferred production due to the attack is 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily,” read the e-mail sent to NAN.
It further said: “I can confirm that. There is no further impact on production, since all production from the swamp area has already been stopped days ago.”
According to crude production figures provided by the oil firm, the country is losing about $3.12 million in revenue each day its facility remains out of production.
Also, Shola Omole, spokesman for Aiteo, said the Nembe Creek Trunk Line, which conveyed crude to Bonny export terminal but came under attack by NDA on May 28, had been shut.
Omole explained that 75,000bpd of oil was deferred as the line remained out of service.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had on Thursday in Vienna said Nigeria was producing 1.6 million barrels per day which excludes further production outages due to attack on Agip, Chevron and Shell.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the NNS Delta, Warri, Commodore Raimi Mohammed, has asked the two host communities within the 48-inch Forcados crude oil trunk line blown up by the NDA to produce the militants that blew up the trunk line or face the full weight of the law, including the deployment of the military to the area.
The two communities that host the Forcados Export Terminal are Ogulagha and Odimodi in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The naval boss told the leaders of the two communities yesterday that they either produce those responsible for the destruction of the crude oil export trunk line in their domain or the military would be deployed to fish them out.
Mohammed, who visited the site of the destruction at the weekend, noted that the failure of the communities to do as demanded would require security operatives to commence a military operation in the area. A situation, which he noted, might be uncomfortable to innocent people of the areas.
Addressing representatives of the communities, the naval boss told them emphatically that the vandals who destroyed the critical oil export facility were either members of the communities or had contacts among them.
Based on his observation of the terrain, Mohammed said the vandals must have passed through the communities by land or by water.
The Navy commander, who was briefed on arrival at the scene of the destruction by representatives of the host communities and a team of engineers, however, reassured the communities that his men were determined to go after the militants and flush them out of the region.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the inspection, Mohammed insisted that the vandals must have passed through the communities to perpetrate the condemnable act.
He said: “The perpetrators must have passed through their villages or they are even from the villages. So, they know every intruder or anybody that is criminal among them.
“That’s why I’m giving them time to come up with those behind this attack. The perpetrators must have come through the waters or land. They know those who pass through their communities, if not, we have to start controlling movement which I believe they will find difficult.”
But the leaders of the two communities were not pleased with the two options given to them, saying they were tasking since they could not be made to answer for the destruction of a property they had no direct control over.
Chairman of Ogulagha community, Captain Solomon Prebor (rtd), who spoke on behalf of the communities, said they could not be held liable for the latest attack because the export line was not situated within their reach.
He also denied that the communities knew those behind the attack of the Shell-operated trunk line.

PoliticsMilitants Kill Two Soldiers, Four Others, Blow Up More Pipelines by caremaster(op): 7:54am On Jun 03, 2016
The constant attacks on oil and gas installations took a turn for the worse yesterday, when the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) blew up two more pipelines in Bayelsa State and vowed to bring Nigeria’s oil output to zero.
Yesterday’s attacks by the rampaging militants, who have claimed responsibility for the recent wave of attacks on oil installations in the Niger Delta, came on the heels of another one suspected to have been carried out by the same group on Wednesday evening on a houseboat stationed at Ijere community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, where the group engaged Nigerian troops in a gun battle, killing two soldiers and four civilians.
The houseboat was operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the exploration and production subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
This was just as a new militant group, the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force, threatened to launch missiles to shut down Nigeria’s airspace and the country’s satellite system by Tuesday next week. It also ordered the Nigerian Armed Forces to vacate the oil-rich region within 48 hours.
Sources, who opened up on the attack on the houseboat at Ijere, said other than the six persons who were killed, some soldiers were also believed to be missing.
Security sources told THISDAY that the militants struck when the soldiers least expected it.
“Some militants suspected to be the Avengers attacked a houseboat stationed at pipeline junction at the back of Ijere community. The militants came through Omadina creek in the Itsekiri axis. During the exchange of gunfire, the houseboat sank while the army recorded casualties. The militants escaped through the Omadina community axis.
Following the attack, it was gathered that two soldiers and four civilians died instantly.
Sources disclosed that the civilian casualties – two females and two males – included a 26-year-old caterer identified as Tombra Iwoboibi, who were support staff on the houseboat at the time of the incident.
The corpses of the soldiers and civilians were seen at Central Hospital, Warri by THISDAY.
The Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mrs. Success Obere, confirmed that the bodies were deposited at midnight on Wednesday.
A relation of one of the civilians, Mr. Richard Ebianyaidou, confirmed that his brother, Tombra, was a caterer on the houseboat.
He pleaded with the federal government to wade into the crisis in the riverine areas of the state, lamenting that the innocent people like his brother were losing their lives.
Confirming the Ijere incident later yesterday, the Nigerian Army said the NPDC houseboat stationed at Ijere junction was attacked by suspected armed militants.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Jonah Unuakhalu, the suspected militants approached the houseboat at 5.50 pm in five speedboats mounted with 250 horsepower engines and disguised as normal commuters.
He said that during the deliberate attack, two soldiers were killed, one wounded, one soldier went missing while four civilian staff attached to the houseboat were shot dead.
The attack, he said, occurred when other members of the troops were on pipeline patrol.
“The brigade condemns the attack on our personnel carrying out their constitutional duties and other innocent staff. The brigade will not be deterred by such dastardly acts, but will remain resolute in discharging its constitutional duties,” he added.
Captain Unuakhalu stated that those who carried out the criminal acts would surely be sought, apprehended and brought to justice, and implored all law abiding citizens to go about their normal business.
After the attack in Ijere, the NDA laid claim to bombing two oil pipelines in Bayelsa State yesterday.
The group, in two Twitters posts, said the bombing was carried out at about 2am yesterday.
It equally vowed to ensure that the country’s oil production is reduced to zero.
It identified the pipelines blown up as those between Ogboinbiri and Tebidaba and Clough Creek to Tebidaba.
It said: “At about 2.00 am today @Niger Delta Avengers blew up the Ogboinbiri to Tebidaba and Clough Creek to Tebidaba Crude Oil pipelines in Bayelsa State.
“This is inline with our promise to all international oil companies and indigenous oil companies that Nigeria’s oil production will be zero.”

New Group Threatens Mayhem
Meanwhile, a new group, the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), has vowed to launch six missiles, shut down Nigeria’s satellite system and enforce a “no flight” zone within the country’s airspace from Tuesday next week.
The group, which claimed it is working closely with the deadly NDA, also gave the Nigerian military 48 hours to quit the region or face extermination.
The JNDLF made the threat in a statement sent to journalists in Yenagoa, Bayelsa yesterday. The statement was signed by ‘General’ Akotebe Darikoro, Commander, General Duties; ‘General’ Torunnanaowei Latei, Creeks Network Coordinator; ‘General’ Agbakakuro Owei-Tauro, Pipelines Bleeding Expert; and ‘General’ Pulokiri Ebiladei of its Intelligence Bureau.
THISDAY could neither independently verify the source of the e-mail nor the authenticity of the new group, but several other militant groups in the region have emerged in the same manner in the last few years.
All the missiles it was deploying, the group said, were capable of bringing down any aircraft no matter how big or potent.
While accusing Buhari of deciding to break the country by his actions, the new group noted that its Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), which it claimed is the highest organ of all the freedom fighting bodies, had endorsed a 15-point agenda.
Many of its fighters who were trained abroad, the group claimed, had already arrived the region from training and are yearning to put their new skills to work.
“After extensive and exhaustive deliberation by all commanders of various groups in Yenagoa, the heart of the Niger Delta struggle met last night, and as part of our mission, we are going to test six of our missiles in the region.
“This is to show the federal government of our readiness for the American prediction.
“There should be no any (sic) form of helicopter to fly around in the region as we will not guarantee the safety of such object.
“The people of the Niger Delta region should not panic in the course of test running the six missiles. We may also decide within the week to shut down the Nigerian satellite orbit, so that there will be no communication in the country if the need arises,” the group threatened.
It warned that within its three days of operations, no airplane should fly out of the country because the missiles could target such objects without warning.
“Our fighter expert teams, which have already arrived the region from training through our country’s porous borders with our foreign partners who are going to showcase what they have learnt in the past one year, shall be positioned in the six Niger Delta states,” it said.
While issuing a stern warning to the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information Jonathan Obuebute to stop threatening militants in his statements, the group noted that its “struggle” was not targeted at shedding human blood.
The group added: “But we have been pushed to the wall for justice because our patience is running out on a daily basis as Nigerian uniformed men kill our innocent people continuously.
“The Nigerian military should as a matter of urgency leave peacefully the Ijaw communities they are presently in, in the next 48 hours under the guise of searching for the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) or else we should not be blamed for whatever catastrophe that may befall such officers
“We have consulted our war gods (deities) that enough is enough and that the time has come. Since the present Pharaoh of Nigeria, President Buhari, is to preside over the disintegration of the country, it is a good omen.”
It said henceforth, any attack on Ijaw communities or persons by the military or paramilitary forces in the region, would be met with a shoot-on-sight order of any personnel in uniform in the region.
“We ask all service chiefs, including the Minister of Defence to shamefully resign their positions because Nigeria has no security in whatever form,” it said.
The JNDLF also said its foreign marine crack team had shut down Nigeria’s “obsolete” surveillance equipment which the security operatives were using in monitoring activities in the waterways.
“For the record, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) are not in Delta State, we only go there to strike and return back safely to the struggle base, Bayelsa State.
“We further warn especially Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, Information Commissioner in Bayelsa State not to criticise our activities any longer or else he has a choice of leaving the planet earth anytime he makes such statement(s).
“All oil and gas operations should shut down immediately as our missile testing will affect their equipment.
“Note (that) we shall commence missile testing on Tuesday 7, June 2016 which coincides with the date of our training abroad. We promised Nigerians and the entire world that we are going to surprise them,” the group vowed, echoing a warning earlier issued by the NDA.

CDS: No Negotiation with Avengers
Despite the threats by the militant groups in the Niger Delta and unending attacks on oil and gas facilities, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, yesterday said the Nigerian Armed Forces would not negotiate with them.
Olonisakin spoke at the inauguration of 10 highly-militarised Honker Scorpion vehicles, which are to be deployed to bases across the country in line with the Nigerian Air Force’s new Base Defence Concept (BDC).
Olonisakin, who was in the company of the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar and Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Sani Ahmed, said the military’s defence architecture was still intact.
Stressing that the military would rather enforce than negotiate with the NDA, he said the military would also not relent on cracking down on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
On IPOB, he said: “There are better ways to air their grievances than the way they go about it. The right way is to get the necessary permit and protest. If they are violent, we will not take it lightly with them.”
Speaking on the newly acquired vehicles for base defence, he said: “The vehicles commissioned today were procured specifically for the purpose of enhancing the security of our air assets within the area of their deployment.
“The equipment is certainly geared towards raising and maintaining the capability of the regiment troops as they contribute to our collective efforts to address the various security challenges confronting our nation.
“I must commend the CAS for this strategic initiative of providing troops with adequate equipment and for undertaking numerous other projects which culminated into actualising his vision for the NAF.
“I will like to say that I am very impressed with the CAS’ achievements within the short period he has been in office.
“The procurement of these Honker Airfield Defence vehicles is a testimony of the importance the NAF attaches to protection of its critical assets and force protection.”
Still on the NDA, the air force chief said: “Constitutionally, the NAF was established to provide security for all Nigerians.
“We will operate within that constitution to ensure that all citizens in the Niger Delta region and Nigerians are safe.”
Speaking on the procured vehicles and the Base Defence Concept, he said it was necessitated by the 2013 attack on the air force base in Maiduguri, Borno State.

House Backs Military Action
Also wading into the Niger Delta crisis, the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind the ongoing military action targeted at stopping and apprehending the militants in the region.
The spokesman of the House, Hon Abdulrazak Namdas, briefing newsmen yesterday, commended the military for its role in safeguarding the country from threats of aggression.
He disclosed that the Defence Committee of the House had visited the Niger Delta region to ascertain the extent of vandalism on oil and gas facilities and assess the security situation.
“We are very comfortable with what the federal government is doing, and we would support the government to go ahead with what they are doing. We hope very soon these issues would be addressed,” he said.
He also advocated that multinational oil firms operating in the region should make arrangements to secure their facilities by involving the indigenes.
The House at plenary yesterday also directed its Committees on Human Rights, National Security and Intelligence to investigate the reported extra-judicial killings of unarmed civilians in the South-east and South-south states by security forces on May 30, 2016.
Security agencies had opened fire on members of IPOB and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) who held processions to mark Biafra Day in both geopolitical zones.
At least 37 lives were reportedly lost to the clashes between pro-Biafra sypathisers and security forces.
Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Onyema Chukwuma, in a motion raised as matter of urgent importance, expressed concern at the spate of extra-judicial killings by security agencies in Nigeria.
The trend has continued despite the outcries, investigations and wide condemnation, he said.
Citing the constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of association, expression and peaceful assembly, Onyema stressed that the rule of law and respect for the rights of citizens were cardinal ingredients for the survival and consolidation of democracy.
He listed the consequences of what he described as the high handed engagement to include feelings of alienation, marginalisation and subsequent escalation of confrontational tendencies and resistance to the state.
“Nigeria’s dismal human rights records are largely predicated on unprovoked widespread and forceful engagements of our security agencies on unarmed civilians,” he said.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, referred the matter to the committees without debate by the lawmakers. But a minute’s silence was held in honour of those who died.
The decision not to debate the matter may not be unconnected to the sensitive issue of the pro-Biafra rallies.
Interestingly, nowhere in the deputy minority leader’s motion, were the words IPOB, MASSOB or Biafra mentioned.
At the height of the pro-Biafra protests in 2015, a motion on the matter was quietly withdrawn on the floor of the House.
The committees are expected to submit their reports in two weeks.

Christianity EtcCAN: Buhari’s Policies Target Islamisation Of Nigeria by caremaster(op): 8:58pm On Jun 02, 2016
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Thursday expressed fears over some actions of President Muhammadu Buhari since he assumed office last year, alleging that he was bent on Islamising Nigeria through some policies that negate the secular nature of the country.

The association, which addressed a news briefing where it itemised pro-Islamic policies taken since Buhari was sworn in last year, said credible apprehension was now being experienced given the policy direction of the new administration.
Addressing journalists at a briefing attended by some South West and Ondo State branch officers, the CAN Chairman in Ondo State, Reverend John Ayo Oladapo, expressed fears that the build-up of some of the policies of the Federal Government may result in a full-blown Sharia which Buhari was alleged to have promised Muslims in Nigeria.
Listing some of the pro-Islam policies, Oladapo said inclusion of Nigeria in the Saudi Arabia Military Coalition of “Muslim/Arab” nations would appear that the foreign policy thrust of the present administration is to make Nigeria a satellite state of Saudi Arabia.
He said the president’s fiat and unilateral decision to enlist Nigeria in the 34-nation Muslim/Arab Coalition negated what was expected to be the priority of the president which should be strengthening of democracy and economy and security for all.
“Given the emotive and sensitive nature of this unilateral executive decision, it should have been handled by Mr President in line with our democratic culture through popular discussion and participation by the citizenry, or at least, through the National Assembly”, he said.

SportsMessi Absent As His Tax Fraud Trial Opens In Spain by caremaster(op): 2:33pm On May 31, 2016
The trial of Argentina star Lionel Messi in tax fraud charges opened Tuesday in Spain in his absence just days before Argentina’s first match in the Copa America tournament against Chile.

Messi, 28, and his father, Jorge Horacio Messi, are accused of using a chain of fake companies in Belize and Uruguay to avoid paying taxes on 4.16 million euros ($4.7 million) of Messi’s income earned through the sale of his image rights from 2007-09.
They have been charged with three counts of tax fraud.
Dozens of journalists, from Spain and abroad were on hand at a Barcelona court for the start of the trial which is expected to last until Thursday when Messi and his father will take the stand.
Messi had planned to be in Barcelona for the start of the trial but a lower back injury he suffered during a friendly against Honduras last week prevented him from doing so, defence lawyer Javier Sanchez-Vera said at the start of the proceedings.
Spanish prosecutors are seeking a jail sentence of 22-and-a-half months for Messi and his father if they are found guilty, plus fines equivalent to the amount that was allegedly defrauded.
But any such sentence would likely be suspended as it is common in Spain for first offences carrying a sentence of less than two years.
The first day of the trial will be dedicated to preliminary legal questions and witness testimony.
– ‘Dad handled the cash’ –
The Barcelona striker and his defence team have argued that the player’s father handled his finances without reporting to him, and that the striker was not aware of any wrongdoing.
“My dad handled the cash,” Messi said in September 2013 when he was questioned by a judge investigating the case at a court in Gavia, a town on the outskirts of Barcelona where the footballer lives.
He reportedly told the judge at that hearing that he never looks at the contracts he signs.
“I signed things, but I never look at the contracts. I don’t know what I sign,” Messi said according to the El Periodico daily, which got access to his September 2013 statement to the judge.
According to the alleged statement published by the Barcelona daily, the judge showed him several sponsorship contracts that he signed, but he did not remember them.
“This is something that my dad manages. And I trust him. I devote myself to playing football,” he reportedly said.
“I do what he tells me to do.”
After winning a league and Cup double with Barcelona, the five-time World Player of the Year is due to join his Argentina teammates for the Copa America in the United States.
Argentina take on defending champions Chile in their first game of the tournament at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium, the home of the San Francisco 49ers, in California on June 6.
