Talk of inspection, nowadays one cab barely trust auto mechanics.
A mechanic can spot a fault that will make you a frequent visitor to his garage and still encourage you to purchase so he milks money from you.

I'd rather take your advice from vin check first, before that of the mechanic.

Although I know physical inspection is a different ball game

We do recommend getting the report first, and then the inspection subsequently.

Most times the report would help narrow down the inspection and make it more efficient.

We also recommend using independent experts for the inspection. There are several in the auto section, cc nurey.

If you must use a mechanic, use one with no direct relationship with you, they may be less likely to cut corners

If a client requests a VIN check from you, do you also give him or her your honest verdict on the vehicle? If he or she should go ahead with the purchase?

You know a car buyer might be a novice and probably can't interpret the information on the VIN check result.

CarGuideNG provides detailed analysis, explanations and recommendations with every VIN report or as requested by the client.

We also point out specific points of interest about the vehicle, and we break the history and condition of the vehicle down to simple terms.

Coupled with expert inspection, you simply can not go wrong with a vehicle purchase.

Permit my ignorance but l will like to know how VIN keeps records of a damaged and repaired or refurbished car, is it that after repairing a vehicle from damage, the owner of the car reports it or what? Thank you.

That's partly right Sir.

Most cars are insured comprehensively, as a result even minor damage has to be reported to the insurance companies to receive the insurance claims.

The insurance companies then forward this information to both Government agencies and private companies such as CarFax and AutoCheck that collate the information.

These private companies also collect information about almost all cars from other sources:

State motor vehicle titling (registration) agencies

Junk yards

Salvage yards

Auto recyclers

Insurance carriers

Police departments.

So the companies compile all the information into a report, which they offer commercially. The reports are quite comprehensive, though they may not include all information about a vehicle, they are indispensable.

Pls anybody who knows how to check the vehicle history with VIN should teach us

You have 2 options for a vehicle history report for cars from the USA or Canada Sir.

Visit www.autocheck.com or www.carfax.com and enter the VIN, pay the USD fees and the reports would be sent to you.

Contact a Nigerian history platform to process the reports.

CarGuideNG provides that service at much less cost than AutoCheck or CarFax. We also charge minor fees in NGN for ease of transaction.

The other advantage CarGuideNG has is in our customized Premium Vehicle History Reports which contain more information than either plain AutoCheck or CarFax reports

We also offer reports for cars from other world regions such as parts of Europe and the Middle East.

Contact us for further explanation or a demonstration.

Can anyone recommend where I can run free VIN checks?

For a comprehensive VIN report you would need to pay for CarFax or AutoCheck reports, or our customized Premium Vehicle History Reports.

Free VIN reports would not contain the information you need to make important vehicle purchase decisions.

You could try www.vehiclehistory.com as well as www.nicb.org for specific checks such as flood history and total loss history.

https://www.autocheck.com/vehiclehistory/autocheck/en/flood

For free flood damage checks as well

You can also contact us directly for free NMVTIS reports, or visit
