Basically a car battery is about 50-60 Amp-hours, that's 720 Watt hours of stored energy.

A cell phone battery is frequently 3.7V 2000 mAh so its about 7 Watt-hours of energy capacity. An iPhone 6 is actually 6.8 Watt-hours.

Therefore fully charging your cell phone will take about 1% of your car's battery energy - I don't think that will hurt it much in terms of draining it - it will still have 99% left because at the end of a driving trip the car battery should be charged to about 100%.

Now bear in mind that most convenience/cigarette lighter outlets are not active in a car when the ignition is off.

FYI, car head lamps take about 40-55 Watts per side. by the time you add the marker lamps and tail lamps figure on a total drain of 120WH per hour.
So 5 or 6 hours of headlamps on will totally drain your car battery.

Car batteries need a few hundred amps of capacity to start a car in normal conditions.

If you leave your headlights on - which can consume as much as 80 watts per bulb - your battery is providing 11 amps of current. After an hour or two, that's enough current to completely drain the typical car battery.

Your cell phone charger, on the other hand, consumes 3-4 watts, meaning your battery is providing less than half an amp of current. Most car batteries can provide this amount of energy for 80 hours before completely discharging.

SO, if your car has a healthy battery, leaving your cell phone charger plugged in can't hurt it. So I think the battery was already low when you plugged in the cell phone
