Segway – four-wheel drive on two wheels

Segway – is the brainchild of American millionaire Dean Border, earned his fabulous fortune due to a number of interesting patents, such as a seat – SUV or a device for the injection of insulin. Vanguard vehicle looks like a scooter with a motor, a handle and two large wheels. The principle of operation is the same as in the blisks: gyros make all the movements and you just move your body, shirk from pedestrians and cyclists. Advanced self balancing system keeps man balanced on two parallel wheels with a vertical wheel. In short, you just move your body forward and Segway is ready to travel. Real magic. By the way, every Segway is equipped with an electronic key with an integrated alarm system. If an attacker would encroach on the two-wheeled wonder, the key will vibrate pitifully, and the wheels will be locked. At Segway, there are probably two key disadvantages: the price and the lack of adaptation to weather conditions. Most citizens perceive the Segway as expensive toy which is good only in the summer. It’s hard to imagine a man on Segway in frosty morning or in windy weather with rain. In the USA Segway is actively used by the police and couriers, postal workers and golfers.

Blisks

Technically speaking, blisks are usually called “electric unicycle.” The design is simple and ingenious: there is the motor-wheel and gyro motor. For the first time the device appeared in 2011. Now this vehicle is relatively cheap: prices start from 300 dollars. For this we should say thanks to the ubiquitous Chinese engineers, who rather quickly copied the concept and the technical component of the unicycle. Modern blisks can be accelerated to a speed of 20 km / h. However, with such a regime is unlikely to drive more than 25 kilometers. However, for the conditions of a megacity such an option seems to be quite acceptable. In the end, blisks is a gadget for young geeks who do not see nothing wrong with walking walks.

Is it Real To Replace The Car By Blisks or Segways In The City?

Increasingly, in the center of a large city can be fun to watch the picture: serious men in designer suits with smartwatches on the wrists dissect the sidewalks on outlandish transportation, which remind the large concepts from the movies about the future. And if the Segway more or less became familiar to the citizens – after all, they are brought in dozens by advanced corporate parks and even a rapid response service – the blisks for the majority of countries are still a novelty.

Just imagine in what wonderful ways develops technology: mankind first learned to break up multi-ton cars for a few seconds to “hundreds”, and then figure out how to move around on one wheel, applying the minimum of effort. We will try to answer the question whether these subcompact mopeds will be able to replace the car in the metropolis, crowded by traffic jams and exhaust fumes?

In appearance of liftback Concept 40.2, there are direct references to the model 345: characteristic kink of window sill line of the rear rack, elevated feed.

Although in general both concepts are decorated in the same style with the new production models S90 and XC90 – with sheered front

LED “pins” in the headlights, and a minimal amount of “extra” lines.

You can’t go anywhere without SUV now – this is the spirit of the times. But with the liftback the company returns to the origins of its compact family.

Do you remember Volvo 345, developed on the basis of company technologies of the DAF vehicles division? These five doors cars were manufactured from 1980 to 1991, distinguished by unusual design with rear-wheel drive and a gearbox referred back, and over their appearance worked famous Italian Giovanni Michelotti, the author of the design of many models of Ferrari, a Maserati and BMW.

The current concept of the Volvo young family seems has not justified itself. Hatchback V40 and created on its basis pseudo crossover V40 Cross Country were sold worse than its main competitors: in the past, Europeans have bought only 81,000 “40”, whereas the results of Audi A3 are 199 000 cars, and “1” BMW and Mercedes A-class found their 120-130 thousand of clients (not counting the platform with the second series of models and CLA).

Therefore the fortieth family of the next generation will have a different composition: in Gothenburg were presented a full crossover Volvo Concept 40.1 and a liftback Concept 40.2.
