Agency arrests 2 suspected child traffickers in Ekiti

The Ekiti Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday said it had arrested two “notorious” child traffickers.

The Commandant, Mr Donatus Ikemefuna, who announced the arrest at a news conference at Ado Ekiti, named the suspects as Stephen Udoh and Ede Thomas.
“Operatives of the NSCDC nabbed the suspects after they trafficked 32 minors into the state for illicit businesses.
“We have trailed the suspects for quite some time; they specialise in intra-state child trafficking between Benue and Ekiti, and unto other states in the South-West.
“They bring the children here for child labour and prostitution. Most of the children are between five and 18 years,” he said.
He said that the operatives arrested the suspects on Sunday, after men from the counter-terrorism unit trailed them to the location where they had taken their victims who were mostly primary and secondary school children.

PDP critcises Gov over alleged non-payment of 12 months salaries

The Benue chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday expressed surprise that workers were owed 12 months salaries, and urged the people to “ask questions and demand answers”.

The party, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Makurdi, said that the state government had no reason to owe workers because it had received monies from “various fronts”.
“Benue has taken loans. It has collected the Paris Club Refunds and received bailout funds from the Federal Government. The regular federal allocations and Internal Generated Revenue have also been coming in.
“In the past two years, much monies have entered the state account; Benue has no reason to owe workers. We must ask questions and demand answers,” former interior minister Abba Moro, who chaired the meeting, said.
He challenged the people to insist on prudent management of resources to enable government meet its obligations.
The former minister also advised Benue residents to prevail on those in government to offer a leadership that was transparent, accountable and people-oriented.
Moro called for unity among PDP members, saying that only a united opposition could unseat the current administration and offer Benue people an alternative leadership.
Also speaking, Mr Terhemen Tarzoor, PDP governorship candidate in the 2015 elections, urged the people to demand for accountability in governance.

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Tuesday dissolved the 10-year-old marriage between one Iyabo Adedayo and her husband, Babatunde, over lack of s*xual satisfaction.
The President of the court, Mr Ademola Odunade, said that the marriage was dissolved due to irreconcilable differences.
“It is possible to take a horse to the river, but impossible to force it to drink water.
“The court tried to settle the matter between Iyabo and Babatunde, but there was no solution.
“Therefore, in the interest of peaceful coexistence, the union between Iyabo and Babatunde has been terminated.
“Iyabo shall take custody of the four children produced by the union.
“Babatunde shall pay a monthly feeding allowance of N10, 000 for the upkeep of the children in addition to being responsible for their education and other welfare needs,” he said.
Iyabo, the petitioner, had told the court that the respondent had been unable to satisfy her sexually.
“My lord, I no longer have any feeling for Babatunde again; he is lazy in bed and he can no longer satisfy me sexually.
“For so long, I had been coping with his inability to withstand my s*xual urge, but I can’t cope with this any longer.

72-year-old Clarence White who got fed up of his wife complaining about his inability to satisfy her sexually or financially ended up pulling the trigger on her.
The man is said to have grabbed a 22-caliber handgun and shot his much-younger wife in the face at their Bronx home on Thursday morning.
Sources told the New York Daily News that the shooting followed an argument between White and his 28-year-old wife over her growing dissatisfaction with his inability to satisfy her financially or sexually.
Responding officers who were called to the scene found Dominique White around 8:40 a.m. sitting on the floor in a hallway of their home on Glebe Ave. in Parkchester.
The young woman was shot in the right cheek and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where she remained in critical but stable condition on Friday, while the suspect was arrested by the Police.
According to court documents, White told Cops “I shot my wife.'
He also told the Police that he and his wife were arguing in the hours leading up to the shooting. Money was tight after he lost his job. During the argument, his wife ordered him to move out which made him shot her in the face in anger.

Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe, said on Saturday he was not stepping down nor dying.
He said there was no one with his political stature who could immediately take over from him.
The 93-year-old leader has been in charge in the former British colony since independence in 1980.
His health is closely watched by Zimbabweans, who fear the country could face chaos if he dies without anointing a successor.
Mugabe told tens of thousands of supporters at a rally in the town of Chinhoyi, in his home province, that doctors were recently surprised by his “strong bone system.”

The management of Rangers International Football Club in Enugu, has declared one of their strikers, Daniel Etor, missing.
The club’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Mr. Foster Chime, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Enugu that the player absented himself from training and providing his services without permission.
“Daniel Etor’s whereabouts now is unknown and efforts to locate or communicate with him had been futile.
“The player, according to the club’s coaches, alighted from the official club bus on their way back from Ilorin, where they played league match with ABS FC of Ilorin the previous day and eloped without trace,’’ he said.
Chime said that the management had on Thursday sent a letter to that effect to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for its information.

The member representing Magama Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Abbas Waziri, says the party will bounce back in 2019 if it offers Nigerians something new.
Waziri said on Tuesday in Minna that with the resolution of the leadership crisis that rocked the PDP, many of those who defected would return to the party.
The lawmaker, who noted that the party had learnt its lesson, called on those that left to have a rethink and come back.
Waziri, one of only three PDP members in the Assembly, maintained that the party still enjoyed the goodwill of Nigerians.
“People still appreciate the PDP because of what we have been able to achieve during our time.
“We tried our best when we had power at the centre and you cannot dispute that,” he said.
On his constituency social services, he said he built a block of 5 class rooms at Auna as well as the electrification of Shagwa.
According to him, other projects executed by him include the purchase and installation of 500KVA transformer in Nasko and construction of Solar powered borehole in Majinga.
