The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun mobilising lecturers across public universities ahead of a possible nationwide strike as its 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government nears expiration.

In a bulletin signed by ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, the union expressed disappointment over the government’s silence on issues bordering on the implementation of the 2009 FGN–ASUU agreement, unpaid allowances, and revitalisation of public universities.

ASUU warned that if the Federal Government fails to address its demands before the deadline, it will commence a two-week warning strike, which could escalate into an indefinite action.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has confirmed the arrest of 16 officers for alleged acts of indiscipline and breach of military regulations. The high command said the arrests followed an internal disciplinary exercise designed to reinforce professionalism within the ranks.
