A French DJ and record producer, David Guetta, says the London and Los Angeles music industry sees Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr as the new Barbadian-American icon Rihanna. Do you think he is correct


Grammy Award-winning French music producer David Guetta took time to hail Nigerian fast-rising star Ayra Starr.
The music guru stated that Ayra Starr had the ability to dominate across the globe due to her distinctive sound and charisma.


Guetta recently featured the Mavin singer in his hit single, Big Fu, alongside American rapper Lil Durk. The Grammy-winning French music producer David Guetta has revealed how the music world in the United States and the United Kingdom perceives Nigerian singer Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr.

In an interview with Cool FM, the multi-platinum-selling French singer, who recently collaborated with the Mavin diva on his new single Big Fu, discussed the current state of Ayra Starr's reputation in the Western music industry. He stated that Ayra's distinctiveness was unparalleled, and her artistic delivery between diverse cultures was easy and fluent.
He said it wasn't just a matter of talent because working with her in the studio allowed him to see her potential and determine that she was also capable of incredibly big feats.

"Since we recorded, she is having even more hits. It's crazy. I'm French. I was in Paris, and everyone was talking about her. I was shocked like, 'This is amazing. An African artiste that's killing it in Europe, killing it in the U.S, it's not every day. Last time I saw it was working with Akon," he said.

He commended her ability to transcend various cultures with her music, potentially noting her increasing success and popularity.

“When people speak about Ayra Starr in the [music] industry, like LA (Los Angeles) people and London people, a lot of us see her as the new Rihanna. Because she comes with a vibe that is very specific because of where she’s coming from. But she has the potential of crossing over into different cultures,” he said.

The DJ thinks Ayra’s distinctive musical style is a key factor in captivating a global audience.

In early 2021, Starr achieved mainstream recognition with her debut extended play and its hit track “Away.”

The 21-year-old singer, who is signed with one of Nigeria’s leading record labels, Mavin Records, rose to fame with the release of her debut self-titled extended play (EP), “Ayra Starr,” which was released in January 2021.

Police authority in Imo on Thursday confirmed that a bomb exploded in the state killing three persons.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the explosion occurred in Eziorsu community in Oguta local government area.

Ikeokwu gave the names of the victims as Elvis Ukado; Kasiemobi Uzoma and Justice Adie.

The police image maker said: “It was an unexploded ordinance in a scrap dump.

“The bomb exploded killing three of them at the scene while one of the victim was beating the scrap iron in order to compress it.”

Orlando also confirmed that the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, and his team had visited the bomb explosion scene at Oguta.

He added: “The Commissioner of Police wish to use this medium to warn all members of the public to promptly report any metal device suspected to be Unexploded Ordnance or Explosive (UXO), for possible examination, evacuation and possible destruction.”

An eyewitness from the community, who also confirmed the development said that the explosion affected people around the scene due to the violent wave and effect of the sound.

Musa was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Nasko Division following a tip-off.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested one Nasiru Musa, 30, of Salka village in the Magama Local Government Area of the state for allegedly strangling his seven months old daughter.

It was learnt that the suspect on May 20, 2019, took his deceased child to an uncompleted building, where he allegedly strangled the infant while her mother was asleep.

Northern City News gathered on Sunday that the crime was exposed when the mother of the child woke from her slumber and could not find her child and raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to report the matter to the police after an earlier search yielded no result.

Police investigation led to Musa’s arrest. It was learnt that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

It was gathered that the suspect, who impregnated the mother of his late daughter out of wedlock, was preparing for their wedding before the incident.

In an interview with our correspondent, the suspect said:-

“I gave birth to my daughter out of wedlock and we (the mother and him) are preparing for our wedding before this happened. I cannot explain why I took her life; people will not believe me; it is like somebody hypnotised me I find it very difficult to explain.

“How am I going to explain to my fiancé what transpired? I know that is the end of (preparations for) the marriage; she will never forgive me and my friends will desert me.”

Asked if he had plans to use the deceased for rituals, Musa said, “God forbid. Magama people don’t use their children for rituals and that is why I cannot explain how I killed my own daughter.”

The command’s spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime.

Abubakar added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.
