TravelRe: Please Help! . I Have A Serious Phobia For Traveling. (Graphic Photos) by Celestialsword: 8:43am On Jun 03, 2025
Exgee:
Hi guys,

I don't know what's wrong with me. Growing up, my best moment was whenever I was traveling(By road). I used to enjoy this.

But since I clocked 25, I no longer find it pleasurable traveling, I'm always scared of traveling. I fear that I may be involved in an accident that could maim or kill me. I have not been able to share this with anyone cos I don't know how to. Some years ago, my friend and I had a terrible ghastly accident that almost costed us our dear lives. We were returning back from the village in the early(6am) hours of the morning and before we would exit the village, the brakes of our vehicle(Lexus 350) failed and the speed of the car tripled. I saw death, I came in direct contact with death, but God saved me. My friend who was driving was quickly rushed to the hospital where he spent a week but I was lucky to not be much affected. I only had a cut on my lips and head. The vehicle somersaulted countless times. Farmers who were on their way to the farm that morning and heard the sound of the car somersaulting refused coming to help us. They said they didn't want to see Dead bodies at that early time of the morning, they didn't know we survived.

Sometimes again, I had another accident. I was about running mad when I eventually managed to pull out of the car, I had use my head to hit everywhere. These two accidents involving two different cars were all sold as scraps cos the damage were irreparable. And if they were to be fixed, the money would be more than imagine.

Again, my father died from a motorbike (Vespa) accident many years ago while I was just 7years. He didn't die on the spot, he even brought himself back home that night unaided. No external injuries but he had internal bleeding which wasn't detected in time, at 4am, mum took him to the hospital as pains in his chest became intense and at 7am, he gave up the ghost. The psychological impact of all these still affect me, I guess.

How do I overcome this please?
Its so bad that whenever a loved one is traveling, I will be saying in my mind that the person might die on the road and that we may never see again. God pls help me!

God has saved me countless times and if I begin to write here, we may not go to bed tonight.
To God alone be all the Glory!
It is not only you, it's normal, with the bad roads, drunk drivers and rising insecurity in the country, but If the source of the money you used to buy the car you are afraid of traveling with is CLEAN,then there's no need to fear.people still travel day in day out, just have faith and be vigilant.

Nigeria’s Economic Crisis Under Tinubu Forces Pet Owners To Abandon Their Animals

The skyrocketing cost of living in Nigeria has plunged many citizens into deep poverty, leading a growing number of Nigerians to abandon their pets as they can no longer afford to feed or care for them.Nigerian cultural tours

The St Mark’s Animal Rescue Foundation in Ajah, Lagos, has seen firsthand the emotional toll of Nigeria’s economic crisis, not just on people but also on their pets, according to a BBC report.

Preye Maxwell, an online media strategist who was recently laid off, tearfully said goodbye to his two-year-old American Eskimo dog, Hanks, as he surrendered him to the shelter.

“I can’t afford to take care of him. I can’t afford to feed him the way he should be fed,” Maxwell said, his voice breaking as he turned away, leaving the barking dog behind.

Maxwell, now caught in a frantic job hunt, admitted he barely has time for himself, let alone for his pet.

“I’m trying to get whatever I have to do to survive. I don’t even have the time now [to look after Hanks] because I’m always out looking for jobs,” he told the BBC.

His painful decision is becoming increasingly common in Nigeria, where a rising cost of living is forcing many to give up their pets.Nigerian cultural tours

Since President Bola Tinubu assumed office two years ago and removed a longstanding fuel subsidy, inflation has soared.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), inflation jumped from 22% in May 2023 to a 28-year high of 35% by December 2024.

Although it has since eased to 24%, according to the NBS, prices of commodities continue to rise, straining household budgets and prompting companies to downsize.

Dr Mark Afua, a veterinarian and chairman of the St Mark’s Animal Rescue Foundation, confirms a noticeable surge in the number of pet owners surrendering their animals—a trend the centre has not seen in the past decade.

“About 10 years ago when we started this project, we really didn’t have people giving up their dogs because they were unable to feed the dogs,” Dr Afua explained.

“Right now, we have 10, 12 animals being dropped in a month.”

The cost of imported pet food and medication has more than doubled, driven up by a weakened naira. Many pet owners simply can’t keep up and some have been forced to abandon their animals altogether.

Jackie Idimogu, an animal cruelty campaigner and president of the Lagos-based dog lovers’ community, My Dog and I, says she has witnessed this heartbreaking trend far too often.

“Now they don’t even have that patience [to find new owners]. They just tie the dog out to a post on the road or they just unleash it on the road,” Idimogu told the BBC.

Despite the financial strain, Idimogu, 32, refuses to part with her four dogs.

“I’m spending roughly N250,000 ($158; £117) every month on pets,” she said, noting the costs include dog walking and caregiving services.

“As a single lady, I have no kids of my own yet. My dogs are my babies. I don’t see any difference between myself as a dog mum and a human mum. I don’t think I have it in me to give up any of my babies for any reason whatsoever.”

To cope, she has scaled back on personal luxuries.

“I used to be flashy, but now I had to tone down because of my dogs,” she said, citing fewer spa visits and more modest hairstyles.

The financial burden is shared by cat lovers like Amartya Odanokende, also known online as “Jason the Cat Guy.”

A passionate feline advocate, Odanokende spends about $160 (about N253,000) a month feeding his five adult cats and kittens, plus $7 (over N11,000) on litter.

Since adopting his Prussian cats in 2020, his monthly pet expenses have doubled.

“The skyrocketing maintenance cost” is a serious concern, he admits, adding that he fears going into debt.

The squeeze is also being felt by pet owners like Iyke Elueze, a sales executive in Lagos trying to care for 10 dogs.

“There’s a particular brand of food I used to use. It was just about N30,000 then,” he said, adding that the same brand of dog food is now N165,000.

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci previously came under fire for featuring dog meat on a menu.

Ibrahim has cut costs by feeding her cats leftovers from her plate instead of tinned meals.

Her advice, “It’s just like having a child. If you can’t afford to have a child, then don’t bring a child to the world.”

Dr Afua continues to shoulder the burden of rising abandonments, funding the shelter with profits from his private veterinary practice.

The centre, built to house about 30 dogs, now cares for over 60.

“We try to help the animals get homes quickly but I’m careful [about] the homes they go to so they don’t come back. And some animals will never find homes because of previous abuse,” he said.

Asked if he would ever turn an animal away, he shook his head, and said, “I don’t have the heart to. As I speak, I have dogs and cats everywhere. My office and home is full – and I still make room for the next.”

PoliticsNigeria Hit By Deadly Flooding Described As 'Worst In 60 Years' by Celestialsword(op): 5:58am On Jun 03, 2025
Significant flooding affected Nigeria last week, with more than 150 deaths reported so far. Heavy rain struck the north of the country on Wednesday night and continued into Thursday, leading to flooding along the Niger River, displacing thousands and destroying hundreds of homes. The district head said it was the region’s worst flood in 60 years.

Heavy rain is not unusual at this time of year in Nigeria. The country has a tropical climate and is influenced by the west African monsoon, with the wet season running from April until October. This type of seasonality is linked to land-sea temperature differences, alongside the shifting intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a band of low pressure roughly around the equator that shifts north and south with the angle of the sun.

From March to September, the sun favours the northern hemisphere, meaning there is greater incoming solar radiation here during this time. As land heats up faster than water, this creates surface low pressure over west Africa as air ascends over the region, which then allows moister air to move in from the Atlantic to later fall out as rain.

Additionally, the ITCZ moves northwards during the northern hemisphere summer, meaning this region of low pressure is now situated over north Africa, allowing for more precipitation there. In contrast, during the northern hemisphere winter, the ITCZ shifts southwards, leading to drier conditions in west Africa under higher pressure.

This week, Niger and Nigeria will continue to experience rainfall but also below-average temperatures. These will fall about 10C below normal early this week, with daytime maximums in the mid to high 20s compared with a climate average of mid- to high 30s Celsius.

Northern Africa also had some extreme weather, with a severe summer storm hitting Alexandria in Egypt on Saturday. The city was battered by heavy rain, strong winds and hail, which flooded the streets and caused power outages.

The conditions were attributed to a cold front linked to an area of low pressure that moved into Egypt over the weekend. The cold front introduced moisture and forced the warm air to rise, which later condensed, forming storm clouds. Although storms are common there in the winter and spring, they occur less frequently closer to summer.

PoliticsInside The Wildlife Black Market Fueling Boko Haram by Celestialsword(op): 10:05pm On Jun 02, 2025
In the forests of Borno State, a new and dangerous trade is quietly fueling Nigeria’s Boko problem: warthog ivory.
While elephant tusks have long dominated the illicit wildlife trade, insurgent groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP have adapted. With elephant populations dwindling and law enforcement growing more vigilant, these groups have turned to a new target—warthogs. Their tusks may be smaller, but they are abundant and easily hunted in the unpatrolled wilderness of northeastern Nigeria.

An investigation done by Humangle’s Alamin Umar shows Warthogs, are now at the center of a thriving black market that stretches from the Sambisa Forest to Asia’s ivory-hungry markets. In places like Molai and Konduga, poaching has become a reliable stream of income for insurgents, who trade warthog tusks and meat in exchange for food, weapons, and operational funding.

While the government has made strides in curbing illegal wildlife trade, like the 2024 destruction of 2.5 tonnes of elephant ivory worth nearly $10 billion, the black market remains resilient and evolving.

Terrorists in the bush, wildlife in peril
The Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas like Komala and Erwa Nature Reserve have become ground zero for this underground economy. These zones, some just a few kilometres from military bases, are poorly patrolled and riddled with abandoned settlements, creating perfect conditions for poaching to flourish.

The warthogs follow seasonal migration routes, often trailing rivers like Yedseram and Ngadda. But these paths also run through insurgent strongholds. According to Peter Ayuba, Borno State’s Director of Forestry and Wildlife, warthogs and other wildlife are increasingly crossing into Nigeria from Cameroon’s Waza National Park, only to be hunted down and traded in Nigerian markets.

This isn’t just a conservation crisis—it’s an economic and security emergency.

Markets of secrecy and survival

Walk into Molai Market or Maiduguri’s traditional medicine market, and you’ll find a dark underbelly of trade in animal parts. Among heaps of herbs and roots lie dried fox skins, bird talons, crocodile hides—and warthog tusks. Traders speak in hushed tones. Many of them are either working for Boko Haram or forced into complicity.

Related News
MOFI, others double down on delivering single-digit mortgages to federal workers

“Last year, the terrorists warned all hunters—anyone caught hunting warthogs would be killed,” said Lawan-Adamu, a local from Molai. “They said the meat is haram, but the truth is, they want it for themselves. Not for religion—just profit.”

Some civilians, under duress, have become middlemen for Boko Haram or ISWAP. In places like Kawuri, residents are coerced into selling poached animals or transporting goods—rice, medications, recharge cards—into forest camps. Arrests of suspected couriers in Mafa, Guzamala, and Mandaragirau in recent years paint a picture of a well-organized logistics network feeding both the insurgency and the wildlife black market.

The broader impact

This trade doesn’t just kill animals—it erodes entire communities. Families are being split apart, farms abandoned, schools emptied. A joint UNEP–INTERPOL report found that profits from wildlife crime rarely support local economies; instead, they bankroll arms, transport, and recruitment for militant groups.

In many villages, fear rules. Hunters can’t hunt. Markets are tense. And children are dropping out of school to help families navigate this dangerous new economy.

A call for smarter enforcement

Destroying seized ivory and revising conservation laws isn’t enough. Nigeria needs targeted, intelligence-driven interventions that focus on transit points like the Ngadda River corridor and cross-border routes with Cameroon. Just as importantly, addressing demand in Asian markets is crucial to curbing the trade.

Until then, the warthog.a once-ignored creature, is paying a deadly price. And so are the people living among them.

Those notes are no longer in use due to high inflationary trends in Nigeria.

I just need to share what’s been on my mind lately.

There are days when I wake up feeling exhausted, even though I’ve had a full night’s sleep. It’s not physical tiredness — it’s something deeper. Like mentally and emotionally drained, even before the day begins.

Between the hustle, family expectations, financial pressure, and everything else, life just feels like a constant race. And to be honest, I’m tired.

Sometimes I scroll through social media and it feels like everyone is ahead — people achieving so much at 23, buying cars, building houses, getting married, starting companies. Meanwhile, I’m here trying to just stay afloat and stay sane.

It really makes me wonder:

Do we have to sacrifice our peace just to make it in this life?
Is success only for those who burn themselves out?

I’m not here to preach or motivate anyone. I’m just speaking from the heart. But I’d love to know if anyone else feels this way. How do you manage the pressure? How do you balance ambition with rest? Let’s talk about it. Maybe someone else needs to hear they’re not alone.
Contentment in life is the key to happiness and fulfilment.

The biggest mistake in life is to compare yourself with others.

And this will make you go out of your way to do some, that will further take you down the cesspits of life.

All that glitters are not gold, those you admire from afar paid a huge price to get to their present destination.

Be careful and always make do with what you have while struggling legitimately to make life better

Tinubu: A Saint Among Mortals - list of people who betrayed him

In the gospel according to Jagabanology, Tinubu never offends anyone, it's the entire nation and its politicians that keep offending and betraying him. Very soon, they’ll say ordinary Nigerians betrayed him too. Tinubu, a saint among mortals, persecuted for the sin of perfection."

Muiz Banire betrayed him.
Sunday Dare betrayed him.
Ajimobi betrayed him.
Fashola betrayed him.
Osinbajo betrayed him.
Fayemi betrayed him.
Amosun betrayed him.
Aregbesola betrayed him.
El-Rufai betrayed him.

Lai Mohammed betrayed him.
Lanlehin betrayed him.
Femi Pedro betrayed him.
Asafa betrayed him.
Olorunnimbe Mamora betrayed him.
Akeredolu betrayed him
Buhari betrayed him.
The list is endless!

Everyone betrays him, yet somehow, he's always the innocent one. In his gospel, loyalty is a one-way street, and questioning him is heresy. But how many more “betrayals” before it becomes clear that the problem might not be the people leaving, but the one they’re leaving?

Many of these so-called “betrayers” were once loyal foot soldiers who simply grew tired of being pawns on a board where only one king is allowed to move.

When the list of those who have "betrayed" you starts to look like a political hall of fame, it’s not betrayal anymore, it’s rejection. Maybe the Jagaban should check himself, because when every mirror shows the same reflection, the problem might not be the mirror.

Tinubu is no longer the leader of the Yoruba people politically, he's now just the leader of the few boys still clapping for crumbs. And even they are eyeing the exit. His time on the throne is ticking, and when the smoke clears, he’ll realize he wasn't betrayed, he was simply overthrown.

You can’t keep burning bridges and expect to rule the land. The Jagaban cult is crumbling, and it won’t be history that writes his downfall, it’ll be the same “boys” he once made kings.
