All sectors of the Nigerian economy is highly corrupt Viz: Education Health Security Government Banking It is not about to get better until the value system is changed by changing the old ways of doing things |
mrvitalis:China imports silicon from Nigeria and use it to manufacture batteries which they export back to Africa. Japan imports raw rubber from Nigeria and turn them to automobile parts including tyres and export them back to Africa. industries in Europe, imports cocoa from Africa and turn them to beverages which they export back to Africa. These countries are doing well economically as they declare trade surplus year in year out. African countries rely sole on imports for their essential needs, this leads to capital flight because they are indirectly creating job opportunities for these countries while killing the indigenous and cottage industries |
victor175:please don't waste your time and resources on it,It is not practicable, they just use it to scam people. Go into goat farming,it is sustainable and profitable |
Ikaeniyan0:What are the industries and mineral resources is in Oyo state. All this fake statistics are really not what is on ground |
immortalcrown:My point here is that you can be a Christian without attending a Church,so far you are studying the Bible and practicing is religiously. So also is a school, you can become a graduate without being in a classroom with students and a lecturer(distance learning),so far you read the text and write your exams. The former is spiritual while the latter is physical |
mrvitalis:Importation of goods kills an economy as it kills indigenous and infant industries Any goods imported into the country, creates employment opportunities for the citizens of these countries and also lead to capital flight, especially finished goods. Western countries imports mostly cheap raw materials from Africa and turn them into finished products before exporting it back to sell at a higher price. This gives them trade surplus as those finished products are in high demand in Africa where they imports the cheap raw materials from. The host countries are always on trade deficit because they are highly dependant on foreign goods. Their only export are mostly cheap raw materials. |
Ikaeniyan0:It is affecting the economy of the country. Aside Lagos states, the other south western states are overrated. |
immortalcrown:There are different methods of education both formal and informal and they all get their certificates, some are gotten through distant learning. So, with the bible, you can be guilded and know the word of God.And if you follow it religiously and wholeheartedly, you can become a Christian and child of God The church is just a gathering of brethrens where they teach the world of God. |
Galinton:You are overreacting to your situation. Over thinking doesn't give you solution to your problems. Take each steps at a time as they come Just be purposeful |

Some residents said they opted to stay indoors out of solidarity and respect for those who died during the Nigerian Civil War, while some said they are indoors for fear of attacks and harm by possible enforcers of the order.Nigerian fashion Economic and social activities across South-East Nigeria were brought to a standstill on Friday as residents observed the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to commemorate this year’s Biafra Remembrance Day. Major cities, including Enugu, the capital of Enugu State; Onitsha, the business hub of Anambra State; Awka, the capital of Anambra State; Aba and Umuahia in Abia State; Owerri, the capital of Imo State; and Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, experienced widespread shutdowns. Markets, banks, schools, offices, and public transportation services remained closed, with streets largely deserted. Some residents said they opted to stay indoors out of solidarity and respect for those who died during the Nigerian Civil War, while some said they are indoors for fear of attacks and harm by possible enforcers of the order.Nigerian fashion Biafra Remembrance Day, observed annually on May 30, is a solemn occasion for many in the South-East to honour the estimated one to three million people, mostly of Igbo descent, who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). The war followed the declaration of the Republic of Biafra by the late Lt. Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a move that was opposed by Nigeria’s federal government under the regime of former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, leading to a brutal three-year conflict marked by heavy casualties, starvation, and displacement.Nigerian fashion IPOB, a separatist group founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu, has consistently called for the secession of the South-East and parts of the South-South to form an independent state of Biafra. The group declared May 30 a "sacred" day of remembrance and has, in recent years, enforced sit-at-home directives with varying degrees of compliance and disruption. This year's compliance was near total in many areas, with residents locking up their businesses and avoiding travel, despite warnings and threats by police and other security agencies in the region against implementation of the order. In Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, the streets were empty as residents stayed indoors in total compliance with the sit-at-home order. The roads were deserted with no significant commercial and private vehicular movement except for occasional movements of tricycles and a few vehicles. Also, shops on the streets, markets, motor parks, banks, and private and public schools were shut. In Owerri, markets, schools and offices were shut as residents of the state stayed indoors in compliance with the sit-at-home order. In Anambra, SaharaReporters observed compliance with the order in Onitsha, while Awka, the state capital, experienced partial compliance, with a few businesses opening. However, major markets like the Eke Awka market were partially closed, with no reasonable activities taking place. Ever-busy areas like Temporary Site (Tem Site) where major transportation companies are located, as well as banks and other businesses, were reportedly near empty with a few movements. “I can tell you there is 100% compliance in Onitsha here,” a resident told SaharaReporters on the phone. “In fact, I have not gone out since morning. Everywhere is locked down. No business activities are going on.” Some Awka residents told SaharaReporters on the phone that they had not gone since morning, saying that despite the warning by security agencies, the majority of the residents voluntarily chose to stay indoors in honour of those killed during the Civil War. One Mr. Emmanuel said, “I have not gone out, not just because of the sit-at-home order but because it is necessary for us to honour our fallen heroes who paid the supreme price during the civil war. “People voluntarily stay at home because it is the right thing to do on a day like this. It is just a matter of one day.” Another resident who preferred to be identified as Obata said, “Even some of our people in the police force, army and the rest, they are also feeling what we are feeling. They are only obeying their commanders’ order, if not, they would also join us to observe the sit-at-home order. “Forget what the police said. If things become messy, many of them will not stand. They are human beings too, and they also love their lives. Just that for now, we have not heard of any violence or attack anywhere in the state or in other states.” In Enugu and Ebonyi states, SaharaReporters gathered that residents partially observed the sit-at-home order, with minimal movements. A few businesses opened with little or no customers. “It is partially observed in Enugu here,” a resident told SaharaReporters on the phone. “There are some movements within Enugu metropolis, but there is no movement on the highways. Unlike every other day, before we wake up, heavy-duty trucks from the North passing through Ebonyi State would fill the highways, but since morning, I have not seen any of them pass.” The resident added that schools in the Enugu metropolis and rural communities were shut, noting that most times, once schools in the city are shut, those in rural communities automatically join in the shutdown. Asked about markets, banks and offices, he said, “Well, you know those areas like Ogbete Market are major areas. The market is open, but how many people are there?” The source noted that Ogbete Market is essentially open because the state government consistently shows special interest and attention to the market. A resident of Abakaliki, Chimdi said, “In some major places like the International Market and motor parks, nothing is really happening. Those places are more or less empty. Just a few movements. “Basically, the compliance is not total, but people are observing the sit-at-home order because nobody knows what would really happen if people fully come out.” Generally, it was gathered that security agencies in most states increased patrols to prevent violence; however, no significant incidents have been reported as of press time. In a statement released earlier in the week, IPOB described the sit-at-home as a peaceful way to commemorate fallen heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price for the region's survival. The group, however, warned of consequences for anyone attempting to sabotage the order. This is despite the fact that government authorities had previously advised against complying with IPOB’s directive, warning that IPOB activities are illegal. Civil society organisations and human rights groups have repeatedly called on the government to adopt more inclusive approaches to addressing the grievances of the South-East and to engage in dialogue rather than relying on force. Friday’s total shutdown marks yet another chapter in the ongoing tension between separatist movements and the Nigerian state, as the memory of the Biafran conflict continues to shape political and cultural identities in the region.Nigerian fashion Copyright © 2006–2025 Sahara Reporters |
According to reports by PM News Nigeria on Friday, May 30, three suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during a fierce exchange of gunfire with police operatives along the Ughelli Patani Road in Delta State, the state police command confirmed on Friday. According to the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 28, when members of the Command’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, launched a surveillance operation targeting criminal elements operating in the area. Led by ASP Robinson Julius, the CP-SAT operatives were on covert patrol when they attempted to intercept a suspicious shuttle bus near Ewhereni Junction. Edafe said that instead of complying with the police signal to stop, the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the officers, prompting a swift and intense gun battle. “In the process of conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ughelli–Patani Road, the CP-SAT team flagged down a commercial shuttle bus,” Edafe stated. “However, rather than stopping, the suspects inside the vehicle fired shots at the operatives, attempting to flee the scene.” The ensuing gun duel led to three of the suspects sustaining critical gunshot wounds, while others managed to escape into the surrounding bush, taking advantage of the terrain and the cover of darkness. The injured suspects were immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment but were later pronounced dead by medical personnel. During a search of the vehicle and the immediate surroundings, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition, which had been used by the suspects in the firefight. Efforts are currently ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, with the police deploying additional patrols and surveillance units in the area to prevent further criminal activity. SP Edafe reassured residents of Delta State that the command remains fully committed to combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, particularly along known flashpoints and highways. THE crisis over the control of local government councils in Osun State between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has boiled over, with the state government dragging the Federal Government to the Supreme Court for allegedly seizing the monthly allocations accruing to the councils. Osun State local government allocations for the months of February, March and April 2025 are reportedly withheld, while that of May has not yet been determined. The suit dated 23 April 2025 marked SC/CV/379/2025 filed by Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, counsel for the Attorney General of Osun State (plaintiff), has the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) as the sole defendant. The state government approached the Supreme Court for an order directing the federal government to release the seized funds and for further orders restraining it from further withholding, suspending and for seizing fund allocations to the local government councils in the state. In an originating summons filed on 24 April, 2025, the state government is asking the Supreme Court to determine the following questions: Whether upon a proper construction of the provisions of Section 162 (3), (5), (6) and ( of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) via-a-vis the decisions of this Honourable Court in A.G. Lagos State V. A.G. Federation (2004) 18 NWLR (PART 904) 1 and A.G. Federation V. A.G. Abia State (2024) 17 NWLR (PART 1966) 1; the defendant can withhold, seize and/or suspend payment of the monthly allocations, revenues and other funds due to the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state without any justification whatsoever, notwithstanding the fact that the plaintiff state has in place, at all-time material to this suit, democratically elected local government councils?Upon a proper construction of Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which guarantees the existence and subsistence of democratically elected local government councils in all the states of the federation, including the plaintiff state, whether the act of the defendant in withholding, suspending and/or seizing the statutory allocations due to the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state without any justification whatsoever, does not pose a threat to the existence, governance and/or subsistence of the democratically elected local government councils in place in the plaintiff state and, by extension, the state generally, and thereby contravening the clear provisions of the constitution? Whether the defendant, without any lawful justification and/or any valid or subsisting judgment/order of court whatsoever, can single out the plaintiff state herein and decide to withhold, suspend, seize and/or refuse to pay the monthly allocations and revenues standing to the credit of the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state, notwithstanding the fact that the plaintiff state has in place democratically elected local government councils in the state at all-time material to this suit? The state government is praying the apex court to make the following declarations: A declaration that the defendant has no right to withhold, suspend and/or seize the monthly allocations, revenues and/or other funds standing to the credit of the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state without any justification whatsoever, particularly in view of the fact that the plaintiff state has democratically elected local government councils in place at all-time material to this suit. A declaration that the acts of the defendant withholding the monthly allocation and revenues due to the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state for the months of March 2025, without any justification whatsoever, despite the fact that the plaintiff has in place democratically elected local government councils at all-time material to this suit, as unconstitutional, unlawful and ultra vires the powers of the defendant. A declaration that the seizure, suspension, withholding and/or refusal to pay the allocations and revenues due to the plaintiff state by the defendant is a threat to the existence and subsistence of the democratically elected local government councils which is in place in the plaintiff state at all-time material to this suit. A declaration that insofar as the defendant is yet to commence implementation of the Judgment of this Honourable Court in Suit No.: SC/CV/343/2024 between A.G. Federation V. A.G. Abia State & Ors. by putting in place necessary logistics to ensure direct payment of the allocations and revenues due to each local government council of the states, the plaintiff cannot be singled out by the defendant for non-payment of its local government allocation while other states in the federation continue to receive payment of the local government allocation for and on behalf of their local government councils. An order directing the defendant to release forthwith to the plaintiff, the monthly allocations and revenues due to its constituent local government councils for the months of March 2025 which have been unlawfully and unjustifiably withheld by the defendant into its state joint local government accounts. An order directing the defendant to continue paying the allocation, revenues and other funds due to the local government councils of the plaintiff state through the plaintiff’s state joint local government accounts opened for that purpose pending the necessary logistics. In an affidavit of extreme urgency deposed to by the Commissioner for Finance, Ogungbile Adeola Olusola, the state government, through the state Attorney General, said the suit was filed against the backdrop of the unjustifiable and unlawful withholding and seizure of the funds, allowances and revenues due to the local government councils from the federation account. The plaintiff told the apex court that “the continuous seizure of this fund by the federation would paralyse the education and health sectors of the plaintiff state if not urgently restrained by this honourable court, hence the plaintiff had contemporaneously filed an application for both interim and interlocutory injunctions alongside the originating summons in this suit”. The Finance Commissioner said in the affidavit of urgency, sworn to on April 24, 2025 that the various local government councils in the plaintiff state need the allocations and revenue to function. He said: “I know that if the defendant is not urgently restrained from further withholding, suspending and seizing this fund, the local government councils would not be able to function and perform their constitutional obligations. “I equally know as fact that the continuous seizure of this fund by the defendant would cripple the governance and subsistence of the local government councils in Osun State and, by extension, cripple the governance of the state itself.” He said, “The defendant, having withheld the allocation and revenue of the local government councils of Osun State of March, 2025 has caused hardship on the people of the state, and if the defendant is not urgently restrained, the monthly allocation for April, 2025 would also be withheld, suspended and seized and this will cause more and serious hardship on the people of the state.” The deponent averred: “It will satisfy the interest of justice and fairness if the motion ex parte for Interim Injunction is urgently heard and determined by the apex court so as to mitigate the hardship already being faced by the people of Osun State, due to the withholding, seizure and suspension of their local government councils’ allocation and revenue. “I depose to this affidavit in good faith, conscientiously believing same to be true, correct and in accordance with the Oaths Act.” No date has been fixed for hearing of the case. It will be recalled that the APC had, in February called on the Federal Government to withhold allocations to local government councils in the state, alleging illegal constitution of council heads by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. According to the APC, Governor Adeleke conducted a “purported” local government election on February 22, 2025, “in disregard of a valid and subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal. The party’s spokesman, Felix Morka, said, “In keeping with the rule of law, it is our expectation that the Federal Government will make federal allocation for local governments available only to democratically elected and judicially certified local government officials in Osun state.” The state government and the PDP, however, countered the APC argument, pointing at a case the APC lost at the same Federal High Court, the appeal on which was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 13 January 2025 for lack of diligent prosecution. The Court of Appeal recently heard an application filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) praying the court to relist the appeal against the Federal High Court judgement which sacked its chairmen and councilors on 30 November, 2022. Ruling on the application and on a preliminary objection filed by the respondents, Action Peoples Party and OSSIEC, has been adjourned till a date yet to be announced by the court. Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) appealed to the Federal Government not to withhold allocations to the state’s local governments over the controversy surrounding the council elections. © 2025 African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc. The sleepy Umumba Ndiagu community in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, Tuesday, erupted in anger when the youths of the community alleged a member of the community, said to be a native doctor, known as Ichie Millions, also called Ezeani, who claimed to be a businessman, was using his vast compound for kidnapping and criminal activities. They also alleged that it was discovered that the native doctor kills and buries people alive in his compound. To search for the truth, the youths of the community invaded the compound and to their bewilderment, discovered that the native doctor, Ezeani, had soak away pits that were said to be filled with the dead bodies of human beings. He allegedly kidnapped his victims, including pregnant women and children, and buried them alive for ritual purposes. The discovery threw the community into shock and sadness prompting the youths to attack and burn his house. A trending viral video was seen when the youths ransacked the houses in the compound, including what they said was his shrine. The community was said to have discovered these dastardly acts after Ezeani was alleged to have been caught kidnapping a 13-year-old minor in his community. This led to a probe of his activities, which further led to the unveiling of a can of worms in his palatial building, parked with exotic cars. The community alleged that he was found to have buried several victims alive in a soak-away pit in his compound. 13-year-old victim’s story “My father and I went to fetch firewood, which we will use to fry our garri. His men came and asked my dad for his cutlass, which he gave them. Suddenly, they grabbed me and kept me in a pit they had dug. I then started crying and the Neighborhood Watch operatives heard my cry and came to rescue me,” the little girl rescued from the hands of Ezeani recounted in a viral video. Also, in another trending viral video, the voice of a shocked member of the community was heard equally recounting the horror. “We have caught the killers. They kill people. People’s dead bodies are inside here. They have killed a lot of people. We just rescued a 13-year-old child, who they wanted to use for rituals. “This is happening in Ojor’s house in Umumba Ndiagu, Ezeagu in Enugu State. This is one of them here,” referring to a suspect apprehended at the scene. The community youths caught a man who claimed he was a security guard and was asked by the native doctor to guard the compound. He was seen in the video, dumped on the compound, stripped naked, and tied hands and feet, while the youths went about burning and destroying all structures in the compound. He, however, denied involvement in the killings but is said to have admitted frequenting the native doctor’s residence for ritual purposes. The suspect who identified the native doctor as Ezeani explained during interrogation by the angry youths: “I am a business person and I came here. After I finished performing some sacrifices, it remained for a water sacrifice to be performed for me. “I was waiting for everything to be done for me. There are things to be done but I don’t know what he used to do the things, but what they do here is that as a newcomer, they normally send the person on an errand. “The owner of this place, Daddy Ezeani, asked me to protect this place and scare anyone coming here away.” Ezeani is said to be currently on the run but it was gathered that his wives were also caught by the community members while his house and cars were all burnt down by the irate youths. In a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police said: “Police operatives of the Enugu State Command, attached to the Umumba Division, in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at about 3:15 a.m., in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant community members, successfully rescued a 13-year-old girl (name withheld), allegedly kidnapped for ritual murder, at Umuojor village in Ishiagu community of Ezeagu Local Government Area. “The operation also led to the arrest of three male suspects connected to the crime, namely: Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36 and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38. The prime suspect, identified as Levi Onyeka Obu nicknamed “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” a native doctor and prominent member of the community, fled the scene and is currently at large. “During the rescue, two decomposing bodies, one male and one female, were discovered buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building, owned and used as a shrine and heinous criminal activities by the fleeing prime suspect. “Investigations reveal that the deceased victims were recently murdered and buried in the pit by the suspects for ritual purposes, and the rescued child was moments away from suffering the same fate before the timely intervention. “In line with its laws, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings owned by the fleeing prime suspect and used for the criminal enterprise. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who promptly visited the crime scene, has commended the efforts of the police operatives, local security groups and community members, whose collaboration ensured the success of the operation. He has also directed the Command’s Tactical Squads, as well as Investigation and Intelligence Units, to intensify efforts in tracking down the fleeing suspect and other accomplices still at large, with a firm resolve to ensure justice is served.” © 2025 Vanguard Media Limited, Nigeria |
