AgricultureFarmers Beware by cgafarms(op): 10:19pm On Sep 24, 2015
Please know who you're buying from so as not to buy fake Day Old Chicks. Most of the day old broilers and pullets that find their way into the eastern and northern markets aside the direct bookings with the companies are fake. What the so called charlatans do is to buy plain carton birds and turn it into the used branded cartons of the said companies .

AgricultureRe: Interested In Poultry Farming? Ask Your Questions Here by cgafarms(m): 9:05am On Sep 24, 2015
zopakks:
If i understand your question properly, in starting up, you can work according to your budget, I would advise that you Start small, probably with fewer birds after which you can scale up based on your initial experience of raising your first few initial set of birds. In poultry , experience is very important so as to reduce losses and learn from mistakes of the past.
Yes its better to start small and finish big

oroke22:
After spending about #160,000 for bring up 200 broilers, how much can one except in return?

Raising 100-150 broilers
I will assume that you already have your pen ready for stocking the said amount of birds that you intend raising so I may not want to include pen construction cost, I will also want to assume that you have already purchased other basic equipment which include your Feeding and drinking equipment which make up your fixed cost, but from my rough estimate of 200 birds which includes variable cost of feed, purchase of D.O.C, medication, vaccination, labor cost as well as miscellaneous expenses it is expected that you should be ready to spend nothing less than #160,000 to raise 200 commercial broiler birds to a mean average weight of 1.8kg. This is probably equitable to an estimate cost of #800 per bird.

As per your second question, from experience i will Advise you go for Abor Acre breed of broilers. They have a good FCR and this will enable you easily attain the desired weight at the right time putting all proper management practices into place. Make sure that they have a good uniformity when collecting them from the Hatchery. You can as well weigh them once they arrive your farm to study their growth rate.
I know you can get Abor Acre from CHI (Ajanla) farms or basically find out from other experienced broiler farmers in your environs.
We can supply you Abor Acre @ CGA farms Ibadan for more information call Shade on 08039203565

AgricultureImportance Of Water In Poultry by cgafarms(op): 1:08am On Sep 24, 2015
IMPORTANCE OF WATER IN POULTRY
1.It helps to cool the birds by evaporation through the lungs and air sac.
2.It makes up a high percentage of the birds body.
3.It aids in softening the feed in the crop, and forms a carrier during its passage through the alimentary tract.
4.A large percentage of the egg content is water.
5. It aids certain digestive processes.
6. It's an important part of the blood and lymph.
Note that, your newly placed chicks must learn quickly to drink and eat. Though they can do without water for up to three days after hatching its advisablethat they are given water about 24 hours after they are hatched. When handled this way it's aid best performance of the chicks...
Note also that water should be provided for about three hours before feed is given to newly placed chicks as this procedure reduces dehydration .
( Water e no get enemy.....)

AgriculturePecking And Cannibalism In Poultry by cgafarms(op): 7:59pm On Sep 23, 2015
CAUSES OF PECKING AND CANNIBALISM IN POULTRY
Cannibalism is a prevalent problem in chicken and game bird flocks. It usually begins as simple pecking among the birds and escalates until it is out of control. There are many conditions that increase the likelihood that it will become a serious problem. The problem usually begins by innocent pecking during the establishment of a social order or by pulling of the feathers in certain cases. Some of the reasons for cannibalism are:
Crowding birds - Correct by increasing the amount of space available for each bird.
Provide plenty of feed and water - All birds should have access to feed and water at all times.
Keep light intensity low - Bright lighting increases bird activity and cannibalism.
Keep the house temperature comfortable - Hot house temperatures aggrivate birds and make them more irritable.
Provide all dietary nutrients at recommended levels - Deficiencies of nutrients like methionine and salt will increase a craving for feathers and blood.
Regularly treat birds for external parasites - Pests can stimulate birds to peck and injure the skin, resulting in cannibalistic frenzies.
Remove all sick, weak, small, or odd colored chicks - Birds will attack and kill these chicks as a survival instinct, resulting in widespread cannibalism throughout the flock.
If the pecking and cannibalism problem can not be controlled by the recommended management practices, the last resort is debeaking. Many producers commonly remove portions of both the upper and lower beaks of chicks soon after hatching. This prevents future pecking problems. The debeaking procedure is accomplished by using a hot debeaking blade that cauterizes while cutting the beak. In young chicks, the beak is so soft that touching the beak to a hot metal blade usually removes enough beak to prevent cannibalism. Mature birds may need to have their beaks "trimmed" periodically to prevent cannibalism in older flocks.
