When playing chords, it is always essential to accompany them with their derived scales/modes...
Example 1: Using a 1-4 progression on the blues scale (4/4 time sig.)
Our Chord 1 would be: d-m-s-taw (dom 7), while we could run something like: d' taw s f maw f s maw d s maw d
While our Chord 4 would be: d-maw-f-l (still dom 7), while we run: maw f fe s taw s d'

HAVE FUN!!!

One of the best things that could happen to a bassist is the correct application of
-The pentatonic scale(r m s l d r...)
-Arppegios (d m s d' m' s' d" m" s"...)
-Chromatic scales (d de r maw m f fe s se l taw t d'...)
-Modes (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian..) and so on
in the midst of a groove
