Totally agree, especially when you mentioned making payment without properly relating them to the actual work completed and materials incorporated into the project. I believe this is where transparency and accountability should come in, and thank God for technology that has made it really easy for us to build and manage our building projects without the unnecessary drama. Onsite gives you that transparency, I think you should try it. Just go and take a look. Here -> onsite.kleeth.io BuildQuant: One mistake I believe deserves more attention is starting construction without establishing a realistic cost plan and proper scope of work.
Many clients focus on getting the lowest contractor quotation, but a low initial quotation does not necessarily mean a low final project cost.
Before construction begins, the client should have clarity on:
• The drawings and scope of work • Quantities and specifications • Material requirements • Labour and construction costs • Preliminaries and other project costs • Allowance for legitimate variations and unforeseen items
Another important mistake is making payments without properly relating them to the actual work completed and materials incorporated into the project.

Wow! That's amazing, congratulations, really. I would recommend a software for you and your team though, it's called Onsite. It can really make your construction work easier and better actually. You can log daily construction activities and also report issues, it also has a feature where you can snap progress photos, once you and your team have it, everything going on on the site whether you are present or not, once your workers log it, you can stay updated. The best part is that it accumulates a report for you at the end of the month so you no longer need to do any manual entry. Takes less than 5 mins to get onboard, you can try it at onsite.kleeth.io danemenike: Nice write up. I couldn't agree less with the OP
I remember when I started my construction firm, I'd come to Nairaland to spam most post with my adverts and I would get one or two clients at the end of the day. ThankGod the story is different today and I stand bold to say that I get multiple jobs through clients whose jobs I have diligently and honestly executed.
Building projects are not complex @ all, trust me! The kind of joy you'll experience when working with a skillful and honest BUILDING CONTRACTOR/ENGINEER has no bounds. Time, money and resources will be saved.
For many who are planning on embarking on a building project soon, whether you're in Nigeria or abroad, here's my advice for you; always engage a competent engineer to handle your project and plan/design your building according to your budget.
Finally, learn to trust some Engineers on Nairaland. I sincerely for personal gratification, but some Nairaland engineers are the best you'll find in the country who'll give you maximum value for each penny. Have a great weekend. I was waiting for this comment. Honestly, personally, I think the biggest mistake is building blindly. When there is no way to see what your workers are doing, how many units of materials, no proper recording, reporting, and supervision, then there are chances of losing money, materials, and plenty of mistakes to happen. You won't need to worry about Bola and Aminu if you can see what they are doing even when you step out of site for a few hours, all you need is your device. ipobarecriminals:
i supervised my own project myself.Trust one supervisor wey go collude with Biola,Chinedu,Aminu to rip u off/steal ur cement, iron, sand etc. |
