Thank you for your comment. I’ll have the technician check for possible causes you mentioned, although a new radiator has been installed with a new cap and it drove fine. I’m only concerned about preventing a reoccurrence.

Car serpentine belt cut. Drove it a short distance to the mechanic, it overheated. Belt was replaced, water was topped but it didnt get full. Car overheated that night with the gauge going slightly above half and dropping. Following morning, realized radiator tank had broken. Drove down to the mechanic to replace the plastic top. Radiator was filled and air bled out. Drove around that day. following morning, topped the radiator a little. later that afternoon, temp gauge went close to high. parked to realize the new plastic top had cracked too.
