So everybody has gone beetles now. I don't admire this beetle any more but the 2nd generation is what I fancy and a convertible one too.

This is also good, this cars have become common on lagos roads majorly used by DRIVING schools.

One was just restored in my area, very lovely painted black and red in Nigerian flag stripe form. The exhaust looks bad ass. Will take pictures and upload when free.

Actually, i have always had love for the beetle, you see my dad owned one and trust me, it was a very fun car.
After i visited some mechanic villages in search of the 500E and saw how these cars were being butchered, it made me sad.
So when Denn decided to restore one, i became motivated and also decided to save one myself.
I would love to see lots of pictures, interior and exterior of the one that was restored around your area.

Changing the exhaust from a very rusted one to a fairly good one

So while I'm still hoping to get the 500E, I became motivated by Denn and decided to get myself a bug. After hunting for a pro panel beater, I got one who is a veteran in the business, so work has started.
This is something I just decided to do cause of love for the bug and it's uniqueness.
It's a low budget restoration, and I look foward to a lot of positive contributions from you guys.......enjoy

I got to see more pics of the car as at that time. it wasn't what I wanted moreover My 230e was in a better shape than it was, so I let it go.

Another classic Volkswagen Beetle being saved, I just love these restoration threads.

Give me a shout if you need any replacement panels, the air-cooled Beetle has quite a following here in the UK, and virtually all body panels are still available brand new.

I definitely will man, but first i need to finalize on what parts need to be replaced with the help of a professional body surgeon. once the list of the parts that cant be saved/restored is compiled, i'll inform you.

Good day people, hows it going. Although I'm still in search of the Mercedes Benz 500E, i decided to acquire an old friend "THE CLASSIC VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE". I called up a few friends who called up more friends and in the search for a bug in quite a good condition, i was finally able to get one that is in a pretty old state(BODY-WISE), but in a super healthy engine condition. so my people i am in dire need of a very good automobile body surgeon with whom i can work with and also finance to help me restore this bug EXTENSIVELY. i have attached some pictures below. please if anyone can assist with a contact anywhere but preferably in the east ( portharcourt or owerri preferably) who is will be willing and able to embark on such a project, please contact me on ASAP. many thanks.

Op I saw a V-boot today even though I was in a hurry I was able to check somethings out it has an AMG badge and also E320 on it, the car looks kinda puffier than normal V-boot and the interior looks like the E500 with wood finish. It also has a lower ground clearance than V-boot I don't know whether it is the spring or shock absorber. I didn't see the engine or the owner but I have the address where u can go take a personal look and confirm also plate no contact me for the details. No FOR SALE sign on it but the car is clean and black in colour.

Good job man, I'm also a lover of the beetle as it was my father's first love, had it before he met my mum and cruised it for 27 years after, before my crazy cousin had it blown up due to one wicked electrical connection during the early 2000s while I was out of town. Loved the car especially cause of its unique nature and metal body, whenever we cruised it around back then, we were almost invincible to the police (the throttle, clutch and break were just dangerous looking rods down below. ..... no single paper for the car. ... including all of us wey no get drivers licence. ... always hot started it as there was no key hole talk more of a key, so if police stop us and we off car, we just wait around cos after all them no go fit start am talk more of to drive am go station. .... fuel tank was a 10 litre gallon behind the drivers seat. ...... cars behind always gave enough space in between as the exhaust always shot at them). Long story short, I miss it and look forward to seeing you restore yours to glory.

Someone on ebay put the 1992 edition up for sale. The offer price is $18k with this title "92 MERCEDES 500E 5.0 AMG OZ 3 piece RIMS RICARO SEATS SPRUCE GREEN- EXCELENT". Though there are two other at $26k and $33k respectively (both 1992).

If the price is not too crazy for you, I can get it for you. The overage importation is not an issue.

I must confess, that's one hell of a wolf in sheep's clothing! . Now that is one hell of a price tag. Brother that's crazy for me man. can't exceed late #1. something or else I'll be in debt.

You can check on eBay for it. But if that doesn't work, you can buy a neat regular 200E V-boot and retrofit with a badass V8/V6 or just turbocharge/supercharge its original engine. Who does the latter in Nigeria?

Already thought of that man, but my guy 'code red' advised I try getting the 500E first. I already roll a 230E.

Yup I know it's an S500, never said it was an S55 amg-was perplexed wen I read n compared post.

I had the rare opportunity of Revving da bleep outta one -S55AMG(don't know why the owner ever let me do that), but I swear on my left testies, my body went numb.

For the love of these fine craftsmanship by the Germans, let's all chip in keeping a ear and an eye for the 500e.

on point man, I'm so expectant. nowadays when I'm driving,all I'm looking out for is a well flared v boot and probably a 500E or E60 badge.

That car really is in Nigeria, ull b suprised the cars u see in the garages/workshop abandoned.

Heres one I saw recently, s500 V8 amg, they were trying to figure out how to raise the collapse suspension.

Now you guys see the problem I'm faced with. The car is as rare around these parts as you can imagine, but a friend, who's pretty good with cars, an auto technician actually told me he had a client about 4 years ago who had the E500 here in Nigeria, but lost contact with him, and that's what's still giving me some hope cos we've been trying to reach the lost client. And I'm really wishing someone somehow would be an angel to me.

Siena, i'm strongly guessing your not in Nigeria from some posts on an Audi thread, and i have seen a few ads online.... ebay and a few other car sale sites and the prices on the ride is HUGE, but aside that, i was told that importation of cars older than 15yrs into the country was not permitted by Nigerian customs services and seeing that production ended in 1995, i was left to hope to find at least one in Nigeria.

this car would be hard to find considering the similarities it has with its lesser brothers. i dont think the engine is the best way for us to help you, if you have actually seen this car before, then compare it with its siblings and less known a good basic difference when we find it but asking me to open bonnet of all V-boot to ascertain an engine configuration is the wrong way.

1. i read it has same colour throughout bumper and body
2. i have actually seen a V-boot with wiper on the head lamps before, thats the kind of pix wikipedia showed so am guessing thats another way to identify, my dad has actually owned a V-boot before, and the only interior difference the 500E or E500 or the amg version E60 has is the steering wheel and my dads got a 200 slapped on its boot. though its rear to see the number on vboots anymore considering thieves always remove those badges.
3. the E500 only came in auto trans no manual version.

your right man, similarities externally between the 500E and its brothers are quite a bunch, thats why i'm using the engine.
It will be ridiculous asking you guys to open all vboot bonnets you come across, I'm just trying to be optimistic about finding the ride.
About the badges behind, people get to slap fake badges behind cars now so looking behind each vboot for the 500E or E60 badge is going to be difficult.
Just in case you come across a vboot that looks and sounds different in a good way, maybe you should just inquire a little bit for my sake man, i'll appreciate it.

I'm looking for the car man, ive been in talks with the pre-order auto guys, and it seems that they cant really help because of the maximum of 15years placed on cars to be imported. so its down to luck.

If anyone has seen a Mercedes-Benz v boot with this engine setup anywhere around Nigeria, please i will be more than happy to be notified as soon as possible. The engine belongs to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 500E and its brother the Mercedes-Benz E60 Amg(Amg transformed engine).

I was taking a stroll with a friend at uniport dis afternoon and this sweet ride gently cruised right past me, my people only the sound! !... only the sound alone could kill. immediately I made up my mind say if this guy parks anywhere around, I must go and meet him. luckily for me , he just parked and I walked up and damn! this car was wow with the exhaust sound and amg badges and flares.
