From: collinsuchendusblog.com Six suspected members of a Finnish-led gang who trafficked women including Nigerians for sex, have been arrested by the European police. The police seized almost $3.4m (N1.22bn) in assets in four countries as well as luxury cars, jewellery, €30,000 in cash and also froze the suspects’ bank accounts in 12 different countries. 16 websites advertising sexual services were also shut down, and this led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader based in Marbella, Spain including two others. Other suspects were arrested in Malta, Romania and Finland. “The suspected leader of the criminal group has carried out criminal activities in at least 15 countries. From: collinsuchendusblog.com Former South Africa World Cup-winning winger James Small died on Wednesday at the age of 50 after suffering a heart attack. James Small, a key member of the Springboks side who lifted the 1995 Rugby World Cup, scored 20 tries in 47 tests between 1992 and 1997. he was praised for his performance in the World Cup final, where his brave tackles on giant New Zealand winger Jonah Lomu helped the Boks to a surprise victory at Ellis Park. “He always played with the type of passion and courage that encapsulate what Springbok rugby stands for and he lived his life in the same way. At 50 years old, James Small died too young. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during this very sad time” South Africa Rugby President Mark Alexander said in a statement. Known for his aggressive style of play, Small was the first South African to be sent off in a test when it was rare in rugby, banished in a match against Australia in 1993. He had numerous run-ins with opposition players and sometimes his own team mates, earning a reputation for his feisty personality that lived on after his career. Small is the third member of the world champion team to pass away after loose-forward Ruben Kruger succumbed to brain cancer in 2010 and scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen died after a long battle with motor neurone disease two years ago. From: collinsuchendusblog.com FIFA has announced its plan to capitalize on the success of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which drew more than 1 million spectators and 1 billion television viewers, by expanding the competition and doubling the prize money. FIFA president, Gianni Infantino who disclosed this at FIFA’s closing news conference, said they are considering expanding the next Women's World Cup to 32 teams and doubling the prize money. According to him, the plan will go on even if it means reopening the bidding process now underway for the 2023 Women's World Cup. “It’s up to us to make sure we seize this opportunity and do something about it. Moving ahead for the next World Cup, we will double it. I am very confident that we can achieve the necessary figures in order to do that,” Infantino said. Infantino also promised that FIFA will invest a total of $1 billion in the women’s game over the next four years, having previously promised to invest $500 million in the women’s game. “The reserves that FIFA has are at [an] unprecedented high level. We have more than $2.7 billion reserves. We don’t need all this money in the Swiss banks. The Swiss banks have enough money. We can use some of it. And I will certainly ask that some of it will be reallocated for the development of women’s football,” he added. The prize money for the 2019 World Cup is $30 million, compared to $400 million for last year’s Men’s World Cup. On Friday, the 29-year-old defender missed the decisive penalty kick against Chile at the Arena Corinthians, which could have sent Colombia to the next stage. They wrote to me too, but I didn't publish anything.' 'In the face of the threats that are being imposed on us, we only pray. You have to think that this is just football and that you can lose or win,' lamented his father, in an interview for Radio Caracol. 'Yet this will do little to calm those behind the intimidations, one of which callously alluded to an infamous 1994 murder and read: 'I hope that what happens to him is the same [that happened] with Andres Escobar'. At present, the hotel is undergoing renovation. Upon launch, a room i Theophilus Danjuma, a former minister of defence, has acquired a 300-year-old hotel in London for N1 billion. TY Danjuma, as he is popularly referred to, is now worth $1.2 billion according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The latest acquisition of the 80-year-old retired army general is a 14-room inn in London. The Kings Arms Hotel is a 300-year-old inn next to Hampton Court Palace, which once housed Henry VIII, the king of England in 1509. At present, the hotel is undergoing renovation. Upon launch, a room is estimated to cost £250 per night. Hannatu Gentles, the second daughter of Nigerian billionaire, Theophilus Danjuma, says the family does not invest in trophy assets. “We never tend to look at trophy assets. We’re not going to head to Mayfair to buy a 15 million-pound apartment primarily because we are a yield business,” Gentles, who is the chief operating officer of her father’s London-based family business, told Bloomberg. “We invest in real estate in other jurisdictions, but in the UK, we always thought let’s stick to areas that we know.” Asides the £2.4 million (1,096,662,240) hotel, the family has invested in more than 30 properties across three continents. In 1998, Danjuma was awarded an oil block by Sani Abacha, now deceased head of state. He left the military in 1979 to start his oil and shipping firm, NAL-Comet. He partnered with Total SA and Petrelo Brasileiro SA on the block. His minority stake in the oil block is now worth $450 million. The family office also manages private equity investments, trust funds and a venture capital arm that funds film companies. His charity work is done through his foundation after he pledged to give away $100 million. *£1 = N456 Cc: lalasticlala Source: https://www.collinsuchendusblog.com/2019/06/former-defence-minister-ty-danjuma.html?m=1

From: collinsuchendusblog.com Lai Mohammed failed to appear in court as he is out of the country and is expected to be back on Wednesday, July 31. The former minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday, June 26, did not appear in court to explain his role in the alleged approval of N2.5 billion to a company called Pinnacle Communications Ltd. According to Daily Trust, the money was meant for the federal government’s Digital Switch Over (DSO) project. It should be noted that the sitting was a continuation of the trial of the director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and two other people. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)’s prosecution lawyer, Henry Emore, listed Mohammad as an additional witness to the alleged fraud. After the two other witnesses had given their account of their role in the case, the prosecution lawyer told the court that the former information minister was not in court, adding that he had travelled out of the country and is expected back on Wednesday, July 31. The court was, however, told that Mohammed had given his won statement to the ICPC. Defendants in the case, Alex Izinyon and Lucky Omoluwa also told the court that they had filed an application to object the calling up of additional witness in the case as asked by the prosecution counsel. Daily Trust also reports that a witness called by the anti-graft agency alleged that the former Minister Mohammad refused to give a statement to the ICPC, saying he needed clearance from the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF).
