Romance / When The One You Love Breaks Your Heart (Must Read) by Chidelis(m): 9:08am On Nov 03, 2019
About three weeks ago, my wife Carol and I were gisting and laughing, as we were getting prepared that morning for the day’s work. We were talking about how much our marriage and love life has grown.

As we were talking, I said something, which I should probably not have said. I told her that I know she will never divorce me and neither will I ever divorce her.

That is certainly certain. But I said in case she divorces me, I would recover within three days. I will bounce back and move on with my life. I will look for other ways of creating new memories, give my life meaning and do the work, which God created me and equipped me to do.

Carol was shocked at hearing these words. She said “Ehn? Is that how much you love me? So, you will only mourn my departure for only three days and then forget about me?” My reply to her was that she should know that I love her deeply.

I then reminded her of how I have repeatedly said I would like to die before her because if she dies before me, I will not know how to mourn her, as her loss will be too much for me to bear. I told her that that alone should make her know that I love her deeply.

I told her that if she should decide to divorce me, it means that she is not worthy of my love. It means I was pouring my God-given love in a basket. Why then should I kill myself and lose weight over a woman who has no respect for the priceless commodity known as my love? It was after this explanation that she realised what I meant.

I can see from the Bible that Prophet Samuel loved Saul so much. God used him to discover Saul, when Saul was a nonentity. God used him to anoint him to be the first King of Israel. He, therefore, had that spiritual and emotional attachment to king Saul.

When Saul kept misbehaving and refused to mature into the requirements of his new office as king, God spiritually removed him from the throne, even though he physically remained there for many more years.

Prophet Samuel was very sad over this. 1 Samuel 16:1 explains it this way “And the Lord said unto Samuel: How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel?” In that same verse, God told Samuel to move on with his life and work by saying, “Fill your horn with oil and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided a king among his sons. ”From this, we can see that there is a time to mourn and a time to stop mourning over any tragedy, heartbreak or loss.

Why am I writing this article? It is because for some time now, I have been reading about boys and girls who killed themselves because they were jilted.

In two separate cases, the jilted men killed other members of the family of the jilter. In another case, a woman whose husband turned his back on her ran mad. It is not worth it.

If your fiancé or fiancee, wife or husband should jilt you, it simply means that that person is not worthy of your love. He or she is too small for the quality and quantity of love you have.

When you reason this way, God will enable you through divine appointment come in contact with a man or woman who is worthy of the marriage and family love you have. Love you.

Family / Fathering Powerfully Or Powerlessly by Chidelis(m): 9:56am On Sep 15, 2019
Children do not have respect for weak people. In fact, children tend to gravitate towards seeking the friendship and approval of stronger children or more intelligent children. Children try to make a mess of weak children, but stand in awe of strong ones.

This is the same attitude children display towards their parents. They have no respect for a father or mother they think is weak but are full of reverence for those who are strong.

Children who watch cartoons have good and sweet memories of strong and powerful cartoon figures while they make fun of weak cartoon figures such as “Courage the Cowardly Dog.” They disdain them.

In fathering your children, you can either choose to daddy them powerfully or powerlessly. You can decide to drop your authority as a daddy or kindly but fully use your authority as a daddy. But as someone made me realise many years ago, authority has no vacuum. The extent to which you drop it is the extent to which it would be picked and used against you.

God is proud of strong but kind father figures as can be seen from what He (God) said about Abraham in Genesis 18:19, “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”

In Genesis 26:34 and 35, after Esau’s marriage to Judith became a source of sorrow instead of joy, Isaac’s wife by name Rebecca complained to her husband about the agony of seeing her other son Jacob getting married to a similar girl that could cause her sorrow.

On hearing his wife’s complaint, Isaac swung into action. He decided to exercise his power as a father over his son, Jacob’s marital life by telling him, “You will not marry from among these Canaanite with whom we live,” Genesis 28:1-3.

The twelve sons of Jacob and his only daughter Diana were a handful for Jacob. Fathering them was not easy at all. But after Diana, his daughter had been raped; he decided to put his foot down to maintain law and order for which his grand-father, Abraham and his father Isaac were known. Therefore, in Genesis 35:2-6, he ordered to throw away anything in their possession that did not bring glory to God.

He ordered them to change their clothes and stop wearing earrings. Genesis 35:4 says, “And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hands, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob buried them under the Aok tree near Shechem.” What a day in the life of that family. Jacob decided to be strong. He decided to provide leadership for his family the way God wanted him to.

But in 1 Samuel chapters 3 and 4, we find another father who choose to father in a powerless manner. His name is Eli, a priest of God. His two sons who were also pastors under him were committing adultery and also misbehaving all over the place, but he was powerless before them.

The result was that Eli, his two sons and his daughter-in-law died the same day Israel was defeated in battle by their enemies and the Ark of God was taken.

If you want your children to have good and sweet memories of you, choose to be loving, understanding but benevolently powerful.

The making of an orderly, strong and civilised nation starts from how the families that make up the nation are parented. I pray that Nigerian fathers and mothers will rise up to build their marriages and families as God would want it done in heaven. Love you.

Religion / The Cheapest Families On Earth by Chidelis(m): 9:49am On Sep 08, 2019
Last month, our ministry hosted seven Americans. Among them was a fourteen-year-old girl by name, Tobey Crowe. She pleaded to be taken along on the trip.

On the fourth day of their one-week stay with us, she came to me with her eyes soaked with tears, saying she now appreciates how privileged she is to have been born in the United States of America.

Perhaps she is another mother Theresa in the making. She felt like not going back to the United States. She saw how thousands of young boys and girls are all over the major high ways and streets running after vehicles hawking and selling what may end up providing a family of six with one dollar profit in two days.

Her heart bled and she wept. She gave sweets to little children. How I wish the hearts of the average Nigerian politician, public servants including religious leaders can be like the type Tobey Crowe has for the poor Nigerian family.

About ten years ago, our ministry hosted one of Belgium’s three female white pastors in Lagos. As we were driving through one of the streets, she saw a dead body by the roadside and she was horrified.

Some years ago, someone from the Niger Republic was interviewed on an international television station and the person said that he saw a dead body on the streets for the first time in his life in Lagos, Nigeria.

Someone out there may say, “Bishop, I thought your Love Arena newspaper column talks only about marriage and family intimacy issues. What’s happening today?”. Please, please, let me digress perhaps, this once.

Why should I not digress when Nigerian families have become one of the cheapest families on earth? Why should I not digress when Nigerians in Ghana have lost respect? Why should I not digress when the average citizen from Togo and Republic of Benin have lost respect for Nigerians? Why should I not digress when some time ago Africans crossing the Mediterranean Sea with a boat to Europe looking for greener pastures found it necessary to drown some Nigerians in the sea so as to make light the load the boat was carrying? Why should I not digress when Nigerians and their business premises are being set ablaze in South Africa? O Nigeria! O Nigeria! O Nigeria!

We used to sing, “Nigeria we hail thee, our own dear native land”. Now it is, “Nigeria we wail thee”. Instead of Nigeria’s tribal and religious leaders to, “Arise, o compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey. To serve our fatherland With love and strength and faith”, where to keep cows has further divided Nigeria.

The forces of centrifugalism and parochialism have taken over the center stage while the forces of centripetalism and lovely living have been cast out.

Between April 1994 and July 1994, about one million people were massacred in Rwanda within one hundred days. But out of the Rwandan ruin, a leader by name Paul Kagame arose.

And in twenty-five years, the Rwandan family that used to be the cheapest family on earth is now being respected. Rwanda is now a beautiful tourist attraction. Since August 2018, each time I want to relax to watch my favorite premiership football team, Arsenal, my mind never stops thinking of Rwanda because each of the eleven players wears an inscription with the words, “Visit Rwanda.”

Some time ago, my wife and I came across a lady in the Benin Republic who was proud to introduce herself as a citizen of Rwanda. I pray that the day will come when Nigerians in Nigeria and all over the world will be proud to say, “I am a Nigerian” just as Tobey Crowe is proud to be an American. That day should come. Love you.

Romance / Must You Sleep With Him So That He Can Marry You? by Chidelis(m): 9:06am On Jul 14, 2019
A thirty-something-year-old single lady had patiently waited for a husband. Just as the time seemed to tick faster, a man came her way and asked for her hand in marriage. She was so excited and everyone was genuinely happy till the man made one demand. He asked for sex.

At first, she was adamant and even angry but he told her that, “we are going to get married anyway so it does not matter.” According to the man, allowing him have sex with her was the only way he could assure himself that she loved him completely.

Even though she was a Christian and she knew pre-marital sex was inexcusable in God’s sight, she was sorely tempted. Of course, some people were there to advise her to compromise her standards and get the man. She listened and today, she maintains it is one of her biggest regrets.

God designed sex and when He did, He put in man the desire to have sex, as one of the ways of expressing and experiencing physical intimacy. He, however, made sex and its desires to be shared by only one set of people— married couples.

look like a casual and romantic part of every relationship. People ask: ‘If you do not have sex before marriage how will you know he/she is the one?’ I also ask as a counterpoint: If you have sex before marriage, how will you know she/he is the one?

Sex is a poor substitute for love. Within the context of marriage, sex goes hand-in-hand with many other things like commitment, trust, friendship and many other pillars, but when sex is isolated outside marriage, it does not bring the full satisfaction God intended for it.

When we engage in pre-marital sex, which the Bible refers to as sexual immorality, we disconnect from God. The Bible says clearly: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God and you are not your own?” I love what the word says, that your body is “not your own’. Why?

Because accepting Jesus as your Lord does not just stop at getting a recreated spirit. It continues till your mind and body becomes subject to your spirit (Rom 12:2) till your mind and body are possessed by God and is no more yours but His.

When you wilfully enter into sexual immorality, you are simply saying to Him, “I take back myself from you.” You are simply disconnecting from your source. Once you disconnect from Him, you grieve the most important thing, which is His presence. The ever- present presence of the Holy Spirit is grieved, and then quenched.

Losing God’s presence also means stepping out of His protection. It means stepping out of His blessings. It means stepping out of His plans and covering. From Psalm 91, we see that it is only those that dwell in the secret place of His presence and abide under His shadows that have access to His divine covering and protection.

You have everything to lose and nothing to gain, when you separate yourself from your Heavenly Father. Today, I encourage you to guard the relationship you have with your Source and do not trade it for the fleeting pleasures of the moment or a marriage proposal that may not even come. Sex is not a thermometre that a man who really loves you needs to measure the volume of your love for him. Love you.

Romance / If Your Teenage Daughter Gets Pregnant by Chidelis(m): 9:39am On Jul 07, 2019
Many years ago, when our first daughter gained admission into the university, my wife and I told her of how we have given her a Christian foundation with which to live her life. We told her not to forget her God and the integrity of the family she is coming from.

We seriously warned her never to mess around with boys and then come back home with a pregnancy. We told her that it would wound our hearts seriously. We told her NEVER to try it. After the stern warning, we then told her that if despite our warning she still gets pregnant, we will still love her and love the baby and care for her and the baby. We made her realise that we will never hate her and the baby.

Many years ago, I wrote an article in a purely Christian magazine, which circulates only among pastors and other Christians about the need for pastors to handle their teenage members who get pregnant with love and care. I wrote that the way some of us treat our pregnant teenage members with disdain is like an army throwing its wounded soldiers back to the enemy to finish them. I wrote that an army carries its wounded for treatment and that we should handle teenagers and others in our midst who are pregnant outside marriage in the same manner.

A few pastors were not happy with me. They said that I was encouraging immoral behaviour, among female church members. It happened that the daughter of one of them got impregnated as a teenager and he stopped paying the child’s school fees and ordered her out of his house. Today, that girl is almost a prostitute. She has children for different men without any caring for her and her children.

Some time ago, we registered the NEW LIFE FOR TEENAGE MOTHER’S CENTRE with the Cooperate Affairs Commission. From this centre, we reconcile pregnant teenagers with their families and care for those who were chased away by their parents or too poor to care for themselves and their baby.

A few years ago, a teenager ran to us in tears that she was pregnant. She further said, “my parents will kill me, my pastor will kill me.” We immediately sent for her mother and contacted her pastor. Not to make a short story long, we were able to reconcile mother and child and through the mother to the whole family. It did not take us time to convince her General Overseer about the need for him to pour love now than before on this pregnant teenage mother, who also happened to be a very popular church worker and member of the church.

Some years later, this General Overseer invited me to preach in their church. A very smart lady ushered my team and I into the hall from where the General Overseer welcomed me in. The General Overseer asked me later whether I know the lady who ushered us in. I told him that her face looks familiar. It was then he told me that that is the lady who got pregnant some years earlier over which I made a phone call to pacify him.

He said that the lady is now happily married to a very prominent member of the church. O my God! I was so excited to see our fruit of reconciliation. I then asked about the whereabouts of the baby. He told me that the baby is with the father’s family and that she is a very decent wife and committed church member. What else can I say than to tell fathers, mothers, family members and the society that there is life after a mistake.
